DIY patches for men's jeans ideas. Fashionable jeans with patches. If the bottom of your jeans is frayed

Many people wear jeans, and sometimes it happens that they tear earlier than they should (especially in the areas between the legs and at the bottom of the legs). In this case, you don’t have to throw away your favorite item, because you can make a patch on your jeans.

These universal trousers are sewn from a special fabric that has a special weaving of threads - diagonal and with a fairly large gap between them. It is this feature that allows you to make darning on jeans almost invisible, since the threads can be laid in the same direction as on the fabric. With a high-quality, and most importantly inconspicuous, patch, your favorite jeans will last for some time, and you won’t have to look for a replacement.

Of course, there are options for jeans where the patches serve a decorative role, but usually holes in the fabric occur due to friction and mechanical damage.

We offer several options for patches on jeans. Each of them uses a sewing machine, but if the hole in the jeans is small, you can sew the stitches by hand. Also, to repair jeans you will need threads to match the fabric, sharp scissors, and fabric for lining.

First way

This method is different in that it uses exactly the same fabric as the rest of the jeans. And you can take it under your back pockets. In this place, you can sew another fabric, and use the main material for a patch, and in this case it will be very difficult to notice the alteration, because both the color and texture of the material will be the same as on the rest of the trousers.

  • To cut out the fabric, pin the upper edge of the back pockets with pins and begin cutting out the flaps with sharp scissors. Using the cut-out pieces, we make a pattern from burlap, taking into account allowances for sewing (1-2 cm) - these parts will replace the cut-out denim. They are sewn to the wrong side of the jeans with invisible threads along the contour of the pockets or with yellow threads in the form of decorative stitching.
  • Next, the flaps for patches are attached to the outside of the fabric with the right side and sewn. You can sew stitches on a sewing machine in the direction of the jeans threads. It is fashionable to use darning techniques by making short stitches forward and backward (also in the direction of the fabric). If the edges of the patch stand out on the fabric, they can be tinted with clothing dyes.
  • After jeans with patches have been worn for a while and washed several times, the alteration will not be visible at all.

Second way

This patch on jeans can be done in 20 minutes, and it can even cover through holes. Often such holes are held on by frayed and whitened horizontal threads.

For the patch you will need a piece of denim fabric of the same shade. It can be cut from worn-out jeans, or often trousers are shortened and scraps remain - these can be used to eliminate holes. If a similar shade of fabric is not found, then you can take a lighter piece of denim material.

Method three

In addition to holes in the fabric, jeans have another drawback - they become shaggy at the bottom from frequent wear, when the trouser legs rub against the shoes. In this case, you can also restore them.

This method of strengthening a frayed edge can be used not only for jeans.

I love and hate stretch jeans. I like them because they fit my figure well, don’t hang like regular jeans, and fit nicely, but they have a significant drawback. Stretch jeans are not as durable and tend to wear out quickly.

Last month, two of my favorite pairs of jeans frayed right between my legs. And this is just after I altered the buttons for a perfect fit. I was very upset, not only because these are my favorite jeans, but also because now I will have to visit a bunch of stores before finding a replacement.

Stitching stretch jeans is a little more difficult than regular jeans. At first I tried to make a regular inner seam, but it only lasted for a couple of days.

And then a “brilliant” thought came to me :) why not use old stretch jeans for repairs?

No sooner said than done.

Step 1: What you will need

  • A pair of damaged jeans
  • Another pair of unwanted old jeans or a scrap of material from them
  • Needle
  • Polyester thread of the required color
  • Pins
  • Scissors

If you're frugal enough, you probably have an unwanted pair of jeans in the right color in your closet. I'm not so perspicacious and always threw them away, I won't do that again!

You can definitely do a better job than me if you can find a pair of repair jeans in the same color. As you can see in the photo, my color is slightly different.

It is highly advisable to use a thread made of polyester; it stretches very well, while a thread made of 100% cotton will most likely not withstand the load. You can easily find them on sale here at reasonable prices; in extreme cases, you can order them from China.

Stage 2: Patch

Approximately determine what size patch you will need to hide the hole in your jeans. I recommend cutting the patch taking into account the direction of the grain. (For example: if the fabric on jeans has a more horizontal direction than vertical, then cut the patch taking this into account.)

I didn't experiment much with the shape of the patch; as you can see, it has smooth edges. You can get creative and make it any shape you want.

Securely secure the patch with pins. A secure mount will make your task easier. You could probably use special glue, but I didn’t because it would make sewing by hand more difficult.

Fold the thread in half, the length of the thread is approximately equal to the length of the arm from the elbow to the tips of the fingers. If you have beeswax, you can rub it on the thread. This will help it not get tangled and it will be easier to pull through the fabric.

Pass the needle only through the patch from the inside. Initially, do not thread the needle through the jeans and the patch at the same time - the knot inside the jeans will be very inconvenient. It would seem that a small nodule is not a big deal, but when it rubs on your skin throughout the whole day, it will begin to seem simply huge.

Stage 4: Sew up the edges

Usually, before sewing the edges around the entire perimeter, I grab the patch on several sides to secure it.

Try to make miniature stitches - up to 3 mm from the hem, with an interval between stitches also up to 3 mm. In the photo above you can see what it looks like.

After you reach the end, make a tight knot, again between the patch and the jeans.

Stage 5: Strengthen the hole

This step is optional, but I decided to sew it up just in case because it will prevent the hole from coming apart and will hold the middle of the patch firmly against the surface of the jeans. Ordinary stitching around the perimeter of the hole.

Don't forget to make a knot between the patch and the jeans.

Here. The results were beautifully repaired jeans! 😆

Jeans are a fairly durable piece of clothing, but sometimes they rip or fray in the most unexpected places. How to make a patch on jeans, because pants don’t always tear from old age. Many people, due to their body shape, can even wear brand new jeans between their legs. So, should we throw them away two weeks after purchase? What if a child gets caught on a nail while out for a walk, and the budget is not designed for new pants? There is an exit. Uncover your sewing machine and set aside half an hour of free time. We will install patches. Not the ones from my grandmother’s youth, when it was better to fall through the ground in patched pants than to go for a walk. Our patches will be either fashionable or invisible. And we will teach you how to do it.

Invisible patch on jeans

The process of repairing an item using a secret patch sewn in a special way is called gizmo. This is not difficult to do, and even those who do not have much experience in sewing on a sewing machine can do it. You just need to know how to use the machine and be able to stitch in a straight line.

Very often jeans fray between the legs and this can be corrected using the gizmo method, since you can’t put a decorative patch there, unless you have a leather patch like a cowboy’s, and you can’t cover it with embroidery. What is needed for this and how to sew a patch manually?

Required equipment:

  1. Select a piece of base fabric - the one that will be on the inside. This can be a special fabric for adhesive-based patches, which is sold in sewing stores.

Important! You can take lining fabric (non-woven fabric, dublerin) or just any scrap available in the house, but the main thing is that it is soft, not thick and not friable.

  1. Choose sewing threads to match the color of your jeans. It is better to go to the store directly with them to choose the perfect ones.

Important! Thread thickness should be No. 35-45. Knowledgeable craftsmen advise: “The thinner and more elastic the thread, the better.”

  1. Prepare pins or thread with a needle for basting.

Procedure:

  1. Turn the jeans inside out and straighten them well.
  2. Apply paper to the worn areas, circle the hole and make a template for the required patch.
  3. Place the template on the base fabric, cut out the patch of the required size and shape.

Important! The main thing is that the patch is larger than the hole by 2 cm around the entire perimeter.

  1. If the fabric is adhesive, then carefully and evenly apply it to the desired place with the sticky side to the jeans, press with a hot iron.

Important! The best iron operating mode for this will be “cotton” + steam.

  1. If it is ordinary fabric, then baste it with thread or secure the patch in the desired place with pins

Important! If you choose pins, use ones that have eyes rather than beads at the end so that they do not interfere with the machine's foot moving across the fabric.

  1. Once you have secured the patch from the inside, turn the jeans right side out.
  2. For convenience, outline with chalk the area where the patch is applied.
  3. Wind the bobbin with the same thread you will be sewing with.
  4. Adjust the thread tension on the sewing machine, you can even loosen it a little on the top one.
  5. Now start stitching from one edge of the hole to the other, going 1.5-2 cm beyond its edges.

Important! Sew with a zigzag, but you can also use a simple stitch of medium length, in the same direction as the threads on the jeans.

  1. When you reach the end, move 1 thread to the side, switch to reverse (reverse), make the same stitch.

Important! If your sewing machine does not have a reverse function (reverse function), then when you reach the end of the stitch, lift the presser foot and turn the jeans over in the opposite direction. And this will have to be done every time you reach the border of the patch.

  1. Place the stitches thickly, close to each other, until you have mended the entire hole.
  2. Having finished with the longitudinal lines, move on to the transverse ones. Sewing is the same: forward - backward.

Important! The transverse stitches should also coincide with the direction of the jeans threads.

  1. Watch carefully so that “unnecessary” areas of the pants do not fall under the foot. Then it will take a very long time to rip everything apart.
  2. When you've finished sewing and are able to patch the jeans, turn the pants inside out and trim off any excess basting or pins.

All is ready. Now there is no trace left of the rubbed areas; they are sewn up firmly and inconspicuously.

Important! With the help of the thing you can patch other places on your jeans, for example on the knees.

Decorative patches

A patch, according to the dictionary, is a piece of fabric sewn over a hole for the purpose of repair. If previously a patch turned a possibly new item into an ancient cast-off, now it is an element of decor and a fashionable accent. Now they are not only not embarrassed, but they are also sewn onto completely intact clothes. But before you decide to take such a step and make a patch on your jeans, you need to decide on its type so that the decor matches the overall style of the pants and your image as a whole.

Double-sided

Two patches of the desired shape are cut out, but the second one is slightly larger. The smaller one is secured around the hole with any seam from the inside, and the larger one is applied from the outside and secured with a hidden seam.

Set-in

The hole is given the correct shape, its edges are folded and hemmed inward. The patch itself is placed on top and secured to the fabric with a hidden seam. That is, they replace the defective area with a new one.

Important! Depending on where the tear is in your pants, it may not make sense to try to repair them. Use our ideas to improve your usual clothes and make them more fashionable. Read the following articles:

Invoice

To cover a stain or hole, a patch with the edges folded inward is applied to the front side. Sewn with a blind or machine stitch.

Lining

A patch made of the same fabric as your item, or vice versa - contrasting, decorative, is placed on the inside and basted to the fabric with frequent running stitches.

Artistic

This is a type of patches in the form of pockets, logos, flowers, animals and other interesting shapes that are used to repair an item and at the same time decorate it. You can make such a patch on jeans not only to decorate areas with defects, but to strengthen those parts of clothing that are susceptible to high friction. For example, elbows on a jumper or knees on the pants of a little fidget.

What options might there be:

  • Now in sewing stores there are a lot of types of ready-made decorative patches, most of which have hot-melt adhesive applied to the reverse side. You can choose a funny dog face for a child, a beautiful rose for a girl, or a football team logo for a man. All that remains is to carefully apply the stickers to the jeans and press them with a hot iron.
  • You can make an artistic patch yourself. To do this, you need to select a suitable piece of fabric. It should not differ much in type from the material of the clothing and be a couple of centimeters wider than the hole. Next, cut out the desired element from it (a circle, a pocket, a star, a flower, an arrow, a pyramid, whatever your imagination tells you) and process the edges.

How to sew a patch by hand?

Not everyone has a sewing machine in their house, and even if such a machine was left over from their grandmother, girls do not always know how to use it correctly. In this case, in order not to aggravate the situation, it is better to sew the patch manually. How to do it? - One of the following methods:

  • You can sew by hand using a hidden seam. Or you can, on the contrary, sew it on with bright embroidery threads, decorate it with sequins or beads.
  • If you prefer the Grunge style in clothes or just a little carelessness, then you can sew a patch cut from old jeans onto your favorite jeans. Rip the threads along the edges of the flap and sew it on with a rough seam by hand.

If your jeans have a tear in the fabric at the knees, and you don’t want this “fashionable touch” at all, you can enlarge the hole a little, artificially create one symmetrical to it on the other knee, and sew on a lining patch made of bright fabric or fabric with sequins.

In order for clothes to continue to be neat for a long time, you need to buy a quality item and take proper care of it. Then you will save money on purchasing new things. They should be washed no more often than necessary, and repairs should be made if necessary.

Often things with scuffs are sent to the country or thrown away. But when this happens all the time in certain places, it can be too expensive to buy new clothes. Once you learn the art of patching holes, you will not only be able to wear things longer. They will become original and unique, which will give your wardrobe a unique style. It is no longer the time when the presence of a patch on something indicates the poverty of its owner. On the most expensive things you can find such decor, which advantageously decorates and emphasizes the element of the thing. Let's talk about how to apply a patch manually correctly so that it is not visible or becomes an effective touch that completes the look on the clothing.

There are different patches, but the following types are most often used:

  1. Overlays are trimmed with folded edges. They are suitable for sweaters and T-shirts. Such patches are sewn on by hand or with a simple stitch. Sometimes they are used as decoration, for example, on the elbows.
  2. Artistic forms are often performed on children's things. Iron-on patches will stick to clothing forever if you iron them.
  3. Double-sided patches will be the most durable. They are sewn on coats, jackets, and sportswear. It is done in two stages: a small one on the wrong side, and then a larger one on the face.
  4. Set-in ones are done carefully, cutting out a hole and giving it the correct shape. Then the edges are folded and sewn from the inside out. This is ideal for jeans and trousers.

The patch is made using a sewing machine or by hand, depending on the type chosen. Let's take a closer look at the most current options for trousers and jeans.

Often such products become loved and are never parted with. Even if holes appear, they continue to be worn. This becomes possible if you carefully place patches on your jeans.

Clothing repairs are also carried out in the studio. But it often happens that it costs more than the cost of the item. Therefore, it makes sense to do this work yourself.

If, when purchasing jeans, you need to shorten them, it is worth storing scraps of fabric in case of patches.

However, you don’t have to try to make them invisible. Often areas can be advantageously decorated by treating the area, for example, with a large zigzag or in the form of a long mustache. You can come up with as many original solutions as you like, limited only by your imagination. Often the same fabric is almost impossible to find. But there are many other methods.

Options for patches made of leather, corduroy or other fabric may be interesting. If you add the same fabric to the belt, you get a truly unique outfit.

Sometimes they use stuff or darning. If you take a problem area on the knee, where the item wears out and is difficult to restore, then for the “male” version this method is the most suitable (interesting appliques are also invented for children’s and women’s jeans). Threads are selected that exactly match the fabric in the torn area. It is better to purchase several shades, since when you start working, you may find out that they are slightly different from the fabric. In place of the hole, glue fabric is glued from the inside to fix and connect the gaps. And before that, apply a patch of the same fabric as the jeans. The size is selected larger than the location of the hole. To keep the patch from moving, iron it. If you pre-baste the edges, it is difficult to remove them later.

Plastering can be done on any sewing machine, but with an electric drive. Some instrument models have a special stitching. But if it is not there, install a standard line with a middle stitch. The required area is circled and “hammered” with threads. When the border is reached, on one side they turn on the reverse gear, move the fabric and put the stitch back. There is no need to unwrap the item.

Plastering is carried out in two steps. Cross stitches are made, attached to the main fabric and the holes are “clogged.” Then longitudinal stitches are implemented. They are made in the same direction as the denim threads. If the threads are chosen accurately, the patch location will not be visible. The stitches should be tight to completely close the holes so that the patch does not show through. Sometimes they are done several times. But it is better that the threads are thinner and more elastic. A thickness of 35 is better. But you can take 45. Thicker threads look unnatural on jeans.

The case when abrasions are restored is the most difficult. To do this, use a sewing machine capable of darning rough intersections. The assembly is also disassembled and patches are installed. You can get by with something like on your knee, but here this method can be ineffective. If there is a large hole in the fabric, then there is practically nothing to darn. Therefore, the remaining scraps from long jeans will be very useful.

Having disassembled the seams, iron all the elements separately and remove the remaining threads. Mark the place for cutting and cut off the parts symmetrically. The elements are cut out in a mirror image. Attach the patches and process them with a zigzag. You can also do a finishing stitch for reliability.

Repair can be carried out in two ways:

  • in the form of an invisible patch;
  • in the form of an insert.

In the first case, you will need a piece of similar fabric and thread. The patch is sewn from the inside out, and then the problem area is stitched.

For insertion on jeans, threads of two colors are used: one to match the color of the stitching, and the other to match the trousers. Patches are prepared larger than the problem area. Rip out the seams on the sides and in the center, where the abrasions are located. Then the parts are applied to the prepared patches, cut out, leaving space for allowances, and all the parts are assembled, finishing with a special stitch for jeans.

If jeans can no longer be repaired, then they can be used to make eye-catching shorts or stylish accessories. Of course, they will turn out better for a walk in the park than for work or an evening.

If you find a hole in your favorite thing, don’t be too upset. With the help of this place you can make a unique and even more beautiful thing.

A material is selected that is similar in quality and color. You don't have to use the same fabric for jeans. The patch is sprayed with glue spray and applied from the wrong side. If the fabric does not stretch, move on to the next stage. Otherwise, it is better to additionally baste the patch. From the front side, the area is checked to ensure that there is no hole visible anywhere. On the main side, pins are inserted in a circle, turned inside out and sewn on a sewing machine according to the pattern. On the front side, the fabric is cut off next to the stitching, leaving a couple of millimeters so that the fabric does not come out of the seam. That's all. The patch is ready.

In these simple ways, you can revive your favorite things, prolonging their life, and giving yourself pleasure and a familiar feeling of comfort with them.

Knees– one of the “weak” points on jeans. In adults, they stretch out, for example, during sedentary work. And children can tear their pants even when they wear them for the first time. An adult is not offended by parting with a damaged item, since it is most likely old. But children's jeans last a maximum of several seasons.
You can try to save a torn item using patches.
They have their own place in modern fashion. Patches now serve as decoration for clothes, a way to diversify familiar things, and for the owner to express himself.
Children's patches can be bright, shiny, with uneven edges. It can be fabric with funny patterns, patterns or catchy colors. You can cut out flowers, stars or faces of cartoon characters from plain material. It will be even more interesting for a child to go for walks in these jeans.
The easiest way to patch jeans is to take scraps of the same jeans in a suitable blue shade.

Instructions for performing the work
1.Cut out squares from a piece of denim. It can be the same size, it can be different. The main thing is that together the patches should close the hole.

2. We make a fringe on all sides, pulling out one thread at a time from the corner. Here it is about one centimeter.

3. Place the squares on the leaky places. We pin it with tailor's pins. They can be arranged symmetrically, tilted or randomly.

4.Sew on. If these are children's jeans, then their legs are very narrow. You can only make a seam using a sewing machine by opening the side seams. To avoid this, we sew it by hand.
