Sunscreen reviews. Sunscreen: which is better to choose

Winter is almost over and we are always happy with the spring sun. Spring and summer give us some special mood, we get a charge of vivacity and energy for the whole year. But at the same time, we must not forget about the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays.

Therefore, it is important to know how to protect our skin and, first of all, the face, because it receives greetings from the sun more than other parts of the body. Fortunately, cosmetic companies have taken care of us and produce all kinds of protection products, including sunscreen for the face, which we will talk about today. We just have to figure out which face sunscreen is the best and how to choose the right one.

For face care, we use different creams - moisturizing, nourishing, for problem skin, anti-aging, but it is important not to forget about sunscreen for the face every day. After all, the sun is not only pleasant emotions, and a beautiful tan, ultraviolet rays are quite insidious and can harm our health, namely, provoke skin problems.

The benefits of sunscreen for the face

Many people remember sunscreen when they are going to sunbathe, and this is a mistake, because we feel the effects of the sun on ourselves every day, especially during a hot period of time.

Reasons for sun protection:

  1. if you have problem skin and you use acids in your care, then you must protect your face from the sun, as acids make your skin more photosensitive;
  2. the sun is one of the sources of photoaging, resulting in fine wrinkles, pigmentation, reduced skin immunity;
  3. we live, at least most of us, in places where the environmental situation is not the best - air pollution, dust, smog and plus sun exposure - these are not the best ingredients for our skin.

Of course, no one says that we need to hide from the sun, our body really needs the sun, but it is important to be able to dose it correctly and use protective equipment correctly.

What is UV radiation and how it works

There are three types of ultraviolet rays:

  • UVC rays are rays that practically do not reach the Earth and, accordingly, our skin.
  • UVC rays are filtered out in the atmosphere, so they do not cause much harm to the body, so we have nothing to worry about.
  • UVA rays - they reach the surface of the earth by 95%, including the surface of our skin.

They act on us not only in the summer season, but constantly, and in any weather from sunrise to sunset. They penetrate clouds and even through glass.
It is UVA rays that trigger the production of melanin, from these rays we get a gradual tan, that is, the action of these rays is cumulative.

But in addition to a beautiful tan, we get a negative effect from them in the form of pigmentation, new moles, dried skin, which provokes the appearance of fine wrinkles, in other words, photoaging of the skin occurs, they reduce the immune system, can cause an allergic reaction, solar intoxication. It is also important to know that these rays are not a source of vitamin D for us.

  • UVB rays are rays that also reach our skin, but in smaller quantities, as they are partially absorbed by the ozone layer.

They act on us from spring to autumn, do not pass through clouds and glass. These rays contribute to the production of vitamin D, but only at certain times from 10 am to 2 pm. There is such a guideline, if the length of your shadow is longer than your height, then vitamin D is no longer produced.
The effect of these rays is not as harmful as the effect of UVA rays and we notice their effects immediately after exposure to the sun in the form of a quick tan (reddening of the skin), in the form of burns if they have been in the sun for a long time.
UVB rays act on our skin quite powerfully, breaking the skin barrier, they can also cause a decrease in the immune system of our skin, photoaging, but this develops against the background of the effects of sunburn.

I think this information was useful, because knowing how the sun's rays affect our skin and health, we will already consciously approach the question of whether we should use sunscreen for our face or not, use it every day or just on vacation. Here everyone decides for himself, but if you still decide to use protective equipment, then read on.

How to choose sunscreen for your face

In order to fully protect against solar radiation, you need to use sunscreens that protect against both UVA and UVB rays.

The main components of sunscreens

Sun protection components are divided into 2 types:

Physical - the most popular ingredients are titanium dioxide (titanium dioxide) and zinc oxide (zinc oxide).
Sunscreens with physical ingredients form a kind of screen on our skin that blocks or reflects the sun's rays, preventing them from penetrating the skin.
The main advantage of physical sunscreens is that they do not need to be constantly updated - until you rinse and dry with a towel, a product with physical components will protect you from the sun. Another important plus is that these components are considered hypoallergenic. One of the signs that sunscreen has physical ingredients is that such creams leave a whitish streak on the skin.

Chemical - commonly found ingredients - avobenzone (avobenzone), butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane), benzophenone (benzophenone), octinoxate (octinoxate).
Sunscreen with chemical components does not lie on the skin with a film, it is well absorbed into the skin, absorbing solar radiation. Such creams need to be updated periodically, it is recommended every 2 hours. After this time, these funds not only cease to protect, but also the incoming chemical components, breaking down, harm our skin. Therefore, they must be washed off, wipe the face (body) with a towel, and then apply a new portion of the cream. Also, such creams can cause allergies, inflammation, and clog pores.

What is the best face sunscreen

The best sunscreen for the face is one that protects the skin from UVB and UVA radiation.

Creams with physical ingredients- this is the main protection against UVA rays, although some physical components also protect against UVB rays, such as zinc oxide. The abbreviation for such creams is IPD, PPD, PA, or a listing of the main components - Titanium dioxide (titanium dioxide), Zinc oxide (zinc oxide), Mexoryl (mexoril), Tinosorb (tinosorb).
What does the abbreviation IPD, PPD, PA mean?
IPD - this is the degree of protection of the cream, there is a maximum of IPD 90, i.e. the skin will be protected by 90%.
PPD - indicates how many times the dose of UVA radiation is reduced, the maximum figure is 42, i.e. you will receive 42% less exposure to UVA rays than without a cream.
PA - this indicator indicates the degree of intensity of protection of the cream and these creams are distinguished by the signs "+", "++", "+++", respectively, the more pluses, the higher the degree protection.

Creams with chemicals- this is the main protection against UVB rays and their abbreviation is more familiar to us, it is SPF with the addition of numbers that indicate the degree of protection from ultraviolet rays, and not the time spent in the sun.

When choosing a sunscreen for your face, pay attention to whether it contains both abbreviations, or an indication of a broad spectrum of protection (Broad-Spectrum).

A good face cream, in addition to protection, should also have moisturizing, soothing, nourishing components.

How to properly apply sunscreen on your face

  1. Apply sunscreen at least 15-20 minutes before sun exposure.
  2. If you plan to use some other care cream, then first you need to apply it on your face, and then sunscreen, and finally a foundation, if necessary.
  3. Do not forget to also apply the cream on the neck and décolleté, if they are open.
  4. In order for the protection to really work, it is necessary to apply a sufficient amount of cream, and if we are talking about the face, neck, then this is about 1/3 of a teaspoon. This is quite a large volume, but if you choose a cream with a texture suitable for your skin, then this is quite real. For this reason, you should not use only foundation with a sunscreen, because a lot of foundation is not beautiful, and there will be no proper protection from a thin layer.
  5. It is believed that for daily care, if you do not plan to stay in the sun for a long time, then an average degree of protection, for example SPF 15, is enough, but since few people apply a large amount of cream, it is better to increase this degree of protection, but no more 50.

I will not do a review of sunscreens for the face, since there are a lot of them and it is quite difficult to say that there is some kind of universal one that will suit everyone. We have different skin types, skin conditions and which cream is right for you, only you can determine by trial and error.

The main thing is to know how to choose a sunscreen for your face and use it correctly. It is advisable to choose a sunscreen in a pharmacy, but in this case, be sure to look at the composition. And if you have problem skin, then it will not be superfluous to consult a beautician.

Beauty to you, youth and spring mood.

When choosing a product for an even and safe tan, decide what level of SPF protection you need. The lighter the skin, the higher the SPF value should be. It is equally important to learn how to properly apply such creams, sprays and emulsions - if you do not distribute the product evenly on the skin, there is a risk of getting a patchy tan.

And one more important point - you can not apply the same milk to the face that is intended for the body. Everything is simple here - the skin in these areas is different, which means that you will have to purchase two products.

For face

Beauticians advise using sunscreen at all times - even if you don't intend to spend much time in the sun. It is important to remember that UV rays also penetrate glass - that is, when you are driving in a car or sitting at work by the window, the skin is exposed to them. Therefore, when sunny days come, apply sunscreen to your face every morning.

Soleil Plaisir by Darphin

Popular

This cream solves two problems at once - it protects against harmful UV rays and eliminates fine wrinkles. We really liked the composition of the product - it contains vitamin E to nourish the skin, as well as hyaluronic acid, a well-known assistant in the fight against signs of aging. In addition, the cream contains citrus extract and has a pleasant fragrance.

Crème Solaire Dry Touch by Biotherm

This Biotherm cream is perfect for a hot summer in the city, because it has a mattifying effect. If you try to use less powder in the heat, and at the same time want to protect your face from the sun's rays, then the product is definitely for you. Among other pluses, we identified a pleasant velvety texture and ease of application.

Clinique Targeted Protection Stick

The product in stick format is convenient to use - it is evenly distributed on the skin, easy to apply and takes up very little space in the bag - you can always carry it with you. The product is based on jojoba oil to nourish and soften the skin, as well as vitamin E. Highly recommended!

Capital Soleil by Vichy

Vichy face cream is suitable for prolonged exposure to the sun - it prevents the occurrence of age spots and fading. It can also be an excellent base for make-up, because it contains radiant and mattifying particles that can replace powder.

Creme Solaire by Clarins

This cream is specially designed to protect from the sun and smooth wrinkles. Clarins is based on natural extracts - senna, sycamore, olive, baobab and Abyssinian pea, so girls who love "green" cosmetics will really like it."

For body

When choosing a protective product for the body, decide on the format that suits you best. It can be a gentle milk or spray. The second option is more convenient to apply, but it is important to remember that the spray must also be rubbed evenly. Milk also has its advantages - a delicate texture and active hydration.

Terracotta Sun by Guerlain

The new Guerlain product is suitable for both the body and the face, protecting from the sun and atmospheric pollution. The main feature of this cream is that it enhances the shade of tan and gives the skin a bronze glow. If you want to become swarthy as soon as possible, then use this particular product.

SunActive by Ultraceuticals

This is another one of the few universal products that can be used on both the face and the body. SunActive can be considered one of the main novelties of this summer, because in its composition the lotion contains antioxidants that prevent aging, and also protects not only from solar radiation, but also from other negative environmental influences. The product also contains caffeine, which improves tone and tightens the skin.

Ambre Solair by Garnier

The legendary Ambre Solair line turned 80 this year, and Garnier sunscreens still do not lose ground and are among the best-selling. In honor of the anniversary, the brand has released an updated collection, from which we especially liked the dry spray - it is easy to apply and perfect for delicate and sensitive skin, as it does not contain alcohol, fragrances and parabens.

Guinot Diam Sun Glowing Tanning Oil

Another convenient tool that combines several functions at once is Guinot protective oil. It can be applied both on the body and on the hair, which, by the way, also needs to be taken care of during a beach holiday. The oil is lightweight and absorbs easily, so don't be afraid to stain your clothes.

Spray Ideal Soleil from Vichy

This protective spray is alcohol-free and has a very light, non-greasy texture. This, however, does not prevent the product from moisturizing the skin qualitatively. Like all Vichy products, the spray is suitable for sensitive skin prone to irritation and redness, does not cause allergies. So if you have light, thin skin that burns quickly in the sun, the product is just right for you.

We hope that our review of sunscreens for the skin will help you make your choice!

With the first rays of the warm spring sun, our skin will need special protection. And we were puzzled by the search for a product for daily protection with UV filters.

Research over the past 20 years has shown that areas of the skin that are most exposed to solar radiation show more signs of premature aging or "photoaging". It is manifested by excessive dryness of the skin, reduced collagen content, reduced elasticity, and the formation of wrinkles in areas that are exposed to the longest exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The weakest link, of course, is the face, which needs sun protection even in winter. But alas, we don't. It seems to us that sun protection is needed only in summer, with clear skies and on the beach. Actually it is not. The rays of the sun in winter and spring may be less aggressive than in summer, but just as dangerous.

Today we have the opportunity to reduce the harmful effects of sunlight by using daily sun protection creams. In their composition there are substances that work as a filter. They filter the sun's rays, separating the rays that are beneficial from those that are harmful to our skin.

Best of all, a cream and compact powder with UV filters will cope with the task. Choose products with an SPF of at least 15. But, don't think that when using different products containing SPF, their values add up (cream SPF 8 and powder SPF 10 in total will not give SPF 18).

Mysterious letters SPF, UVA, UVA, UVB and UVC

Before we start choosing a cream, it is worth recalling that UV radiation is divided into three ranges: UV A, UV IN and UV WITH.

Almost all UVC radiation is trapped by the atmosphere, and therefore almost never reaches the earth's surface.

UVB radiation penetrates the epidermis (top layer of the skin), but does not enter the dermis. These rays responsible for sunburn, as they have a strong damaging effect.

UVA radiation has the highest penetrating power. In human skin, UVA rays reach the middle layers of the dermis. UVA radiation is the cause of hyperpigmentation, photoaging and skin cancer.

As a rule, UV filters are divided into 2 categories: chemical and physical. Creams with physical protection create a protective screen that is opaque to the rays on the surface of the skin. They contain titanium and zinc oxide. The second group - with the mechanism of chemical protection. They contain vegetable oils, derivatives of quinoline and benzene, which do not transmit rays of harmful length into the deeper layers of the skin.

Sunscreen often says "SPF 15, 20, 50" on the packaging. This inscription says only about the degree of protection from "B" rays and such creams will not allow the skin to burn during prolonged exposure to the sun. The higher the value, the higher the protection.

On the packaging of creams that protect against "A" rays is marked P ++. The more pluses, the higher the protection.

In UVA-labeled creams, the substances they contain protect the skin from the "A" and "B" rays. These are quality creams.

The older you are, the more protection the cream should have.

Let's start counting

Many of us don't know that the SPF (sun protector factor) designation on a cosmetic product indicates how long you can stay in the sun without the risk of sunburn using this product.

The calculation is pretty simple. Without sunscreen, you can be out in the sun for 25 minutes before your skin turns red. Using a product with SPF15, you can stay in the sun without the risk of redness for 15 times longer (15 times 25).

Often, when buying sunscreen, sellers offer to focus on the phototype. But, phototypes are rather a conditional division. It is difficult to determine by eye which phototype you are, therefore, if it is not known to you for certain, be guided by your previous experience and how your skin reacts to the sun, how quickly it burns, being unprotected, rather than descriptive characteristics of skin color, hair and eyes. Indeed, contrary to stereotypes, blondes often have a beautiful bronze tan, and brunettes quickly burn and turn into boiled cancer.

Daily sunscreen can be SPF, no more than 15. Unless of course you spend most of the day indoors.

A cream with SPF, to maintain its protective functions, should be the last product (before applying makeup) that you apply to your face. This means that toners, serums, moisturizers/lotions, and acne treatments should be applied BEFORE using an SPF product. But to choose a cream with SPF, which would be suitable in terms of texture, in terms of its care qualities and be "friends" with decorative cosmetics that should be applied over it, is not an easy task.

Summer is not only the sea, holidays and good weather, but also an increased risk of getting burns from exposure to ultraviolet radiation. If during this period you do not apply sun cream for the face, instead of a beautiful tan, you can get inflammation, redness and uneven skin pigmentation. It is important to understand that protection should be complete, correct and daily, because the skin of the face is constantly exposed to the sun, and not just during outdoor recreation. Preparations are recommended to select effective, but as delicate as possible.

Girls with red hair tend to have fair skin and require special care and persistent sun protection.

Determination of skin phototype, its influence on the choice of protection

Not everyone knows that there are not only basic types, but also phototypes of the epidermis. They have a great influence on the predisposition to sunburn and burns.

  • Redheads. Paradoxical skin type. With increased sensitivity to ultraviolet light, it is practically not covered with a tan. Under the influence of the sun, freckles constantly appear on it, the risk of getting burns is very high. For such a face, you need a cream with a high level of protection (SPF30 and above).
  • Blondes and blonds. The skin is light, with a small amount of freckles, prone to burns, but less than that of the previous group. A tan on such a face is poorly noticeable, it disappears quite quickly. Protection for such skin is necessary, the SPF level is at least 20-30.
  • Brown-haired women. The skin of the face is most often light, there are few or no freckles at all. There is no increased sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation, but protection is still necessary. Burns rarely occur on such a face, the tan lies evenly and keeps well.
  • Brunettes. If the skin is swarthy, then these women do not even know that in addition to tanning, burns can appear on the face. The tan turns out to be persistent and intense, almost any kind of protection is suitable for such skin.

There are a number of rules that must be followed by everyone, regardless of the phototype of the skin.

  1. You can not stay in the sun for too long without the use of protective equipment.
  2. Increased activity of the sun's rays falls on the period from 11 to 15 hours. At this time, it is difficult to come up with reliable remedies for burns and inflammation, it is better to wait a few hours in the shade.
  3. If you need to spend the whole day outside, then the protective cream should be changed regularly, especially if the skin is in contact with water.

In summer, do not abuse decorative cosmetics. Most products can enhance the effect of ultraviolet radiation, which often leads to allergic dermatitis as a reaction to the sun's rays.

Sun milk or body cream is not suitable for the face

Facial Sunscreen Features

All-purpose tanning products intended for the whole body are not recommended for use on the face. For delicate skin, our own preparations have been developed that take into account all the features of the epidermis.

  1. The product base is not so fat. This prevents the appearance of gloss on the forehead, cheeks and nose.
  2. Facial products usually have a greater protection factor than similar body formulations. This minimizes the risk of burns and inflammation.
  3. The structure of the products allows them to be used as a make-up base. This is especially useful when you need to protect the skin in urban environments.

The degree of sun protection, referred to as SPF, is selected taking into account the type of skin, its sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation and the presence of inflammatory manifestations.

Rules for reading labels on UV protection products

In order to choose the best remedy against the action of ultraviolet radiation, it is not enough to know your phototype, you also need to understand the information that is on product labels. As statistics show, many women have not quite the right idea about the meaning of some symbols and as a result choose the wrong sun cream.

Meaning of ciphers and symbols on labels:

  • The main indicator of product power is the SPF level. This is not an indicator of the time spent under the rays of the sun without the risk of getting burned! This is a sun protection factor that indicates how much radiation you can get if you use this cream, without the danger of inflammation of the skin. The critical portion of a tan depends on many factors, so cosmetologists have developed pivot tables to correctly determine the remedy. Only if you take into account all the necessary data, you can choose the best sunscreen for your face.
  • UVB protection (causes burns) and UVA rays (causes tanning, may cause photoaging). A good ratio of these filters is 3:1. This will provide full protection and an even tan. Many women refuse such drugs, because they are sure that their action is directed against sunburn. This is wrong! They protect against the negative effects of sun exposure.
  • If you need a beautiful and long-lasting tan, you can opt for products with only UVB protection. If health care comes to the fore, UVA filters should also be included in the preparation.
  • Products labeled SPF50+ are used only for special indications. This may be increased sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation, skin diseases, the recovery period after peeling or surgery.
  • You should not trust products with protection indicators from 60 to 100 - this is a common publicity stunt. Any cream 50+ gives the highest degree of protection, which guarantees almost one hundred percent protection from the sun.

If a huge selection of products is confusing, it is better to consult a cosmetologist. The specialist will determine the optimal indicators for full protection from ultraviolet radiation and getting a beautiful tan.

Sunscreens for the face at first glance are similar to each other, but the composition can be significant differences

Types of sunscreens

According to the type of protection, sunscreens are divided into two groups:

  1. Products with filters. Substances of organic origin that penetrate the thickness of the skin and convert solar energy into heat.
  2. Products with screens. Compounds based on inorganic solid particles (most often minerals) that work on the surface of the skin.

The screens are very easy to remove from the surface of the face, so the filters are more reliable. On the other hand, allergies to organic components are more common, in which case screens are the only solution.

When choosing preparations with filters, it is necessary to ensure that they do not include oxybenzone and retinol palmitate. These substances are recognized as dangerous, capable of causing the development of cancer.

According to experts, no sun cream is 100% safe. It is necessary to apply them, but you should not abuse them either, it is sometimes better to give up tanning.

In addition to protective components, the composition of protective cosmetics should include vitamins, softening oils, and plant extracts. High-quality cream is resistant to water, sweat, wind. Under the influence of these factors, the uniformity of tanning should not be disturbed.

Cosmetologists do not recommend the use of sprays and powders to protect the skin of the face. Products sprayed into the air can enter the respiratory tract and cause an allergic attack and even poisoning. To care for the delicate skin around the eyes and lips, it is recommended to use special sticks.

Some manufacturers claim that their cosmetic products contain substances that fight against wrinkles and signs of aging of the epidermis. In fact, the concentration of useful components in such preparations is insignificant and does not give a pronounced rejuvenating effect.

Choosing a face cream that will protect the skin from the sun, you must follow a number of simple rules.

  1. The higher the SPF, the higher the degree of protection. The softer the skin, the better the protection should be, and hence this indicator. For owners of Slavic and Scandinavian appearance, a remedy with a protection index of at least 30-50 is suitable. In some cases, even 50+ is used. These products are also suitable for women with hypersensitivity of the skin and a tendency of the epidermis to peel. For brown-haired women and brunettes with fair skin, products with a factor of 15-20 are enough to get an even and healthy tan. Dark-haired girls with dark skin should use sun cream to prevent premature aging of tissues. In this case, SPF8 preparations are sufficient.
  2. To prevent inflammation, components such as titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, avobenzone are added to the formulations.
  3. Particular attention should be paid to the consistency of the drug. If the product is too liquid, it will spread, which will affect the even distribution of the tan. A thick mass will be poorly distributed, leaving a greasy sheen on the surface of the face.

You also need to apply the cream correctly.

  • Full sun protection is possible only after the composition is absorbed into the skin. Therefore, you can only go outside 15-20 minutes after applying the product.
  • You need to update protection every two hours. At least half a teaspoon of the product should go to the face.
  • Experts recommend applying filter-based products before your daily cream and screen-based products after.
  • It is important to remember that a tube of tanning product does not last longer than one season.

If you take into account all the recommendations of experts and regularly use protective equipment, you can not worry about the condition of the skin in the hot season. There are people who are opposed to any protective cosmetics, confident that the shade and hats are sufficient precautions. Considering the fact that ultraviolet rays can act diffusely, such a protection system is insufficient. Modern cosmetic products are the most effective, safe and reliable method of skin protection.

Sunscreen is a protective cosmetic product that protects the skin from harmful UVA and UVB radiation. It is necessary to choose such drugs, based on the characteristics of the skin, according to the SPF factor. Sunscreen helps to avoid burns, early aging of the epidermis, as well as the development of cancer.

What is sunscreen with SPF

Direct sunlight has an extremely negative effect on human skin. It is especially dangerous to stay under ultraviolet for a long time in the summer, when solar radiation is too strong.

Ultraviolet has three spectra - A, B, C. Type A rays are considered to be the most harmless. They are responsible for an even chocolate tan. However, at the same time, A-rays have a destructive effect on the connective tissue and provoke an accelerated process of skin aging.

Slightly more dangerous for humans is B-radiation. Rays of this type penetrate deep into the layers of the epidermis and activate the production of melanin. The latter is a pigment responsible for the tone of the skin and hair. Its main function is to protect the dermis from ultraviolet burns. Its quantity is determined by the region where a person lives and the climatic conditions surrounding him.

The most dangerous for human skin C-rays. However, they rarely reach the surface of the Earth, thanks to the protective layer of ozone.

Special cosmetic creams with SPF factors are designed to protect the skin from the harmful effects of sun rays of type A and B. The latter stands for Sun Protection Factor. This indicator determines the effectiveness of the product in terms of protecting the epidermis from spectrum rays A and B.

SPF can range from 2 to 50 units, where 2 is the weakest level of skin protection. Approximately 50% of ultraviolet rays delay such a cream.

The most popular sunscreens with an index in the range of 20-30. They are considered optimal for the normal type of European skin. At the same time, the number 20, for example, indicates that your epidermis will be able to take 20 times more solar radiation without damage than without this cream.

In addition, the SPF level helps determine the safe number of minutes that can be spent in direct sunlight. For example, if without the protection of a cream a person can get an ultraviolet burn in fifteen minutes, then thanks to a product with 10 SPF protection, he will spend 150 minutes under the sun, since cosmetics with a factor of 10 increase the safe time by ten times. After this time has elapsed, the product must be renewed on the skin.

The maximum degree of skin protection is guaranteed by products with an SPF 50 and 50+ index. They retain about 98% of ultraviolet light. Be careful, these numbers are the limit for sunscreen cosmetics. If the product packaging has a higher SPF value, then this is either a fake or a marketing ploy by the manufacturer.

Most sunscreen cosmetics protect the skin mainly from type B radiation. As a rule, it does little to protect the epidermis from A-rays. This is justified by the fact that by applying such a remedy, a person will not be left without a tan, but will only protect himself from burns and the appearance of pigmentation.

However, in recent years, dermatologists have insisted that sunscreen cosmetics should also protect against the A-rays of the sun, so that exposure to direct ultraviolet rays does not provoke the development of the so-called "sun allergy". Therefore, creams have also appeared on the market that protect against this type of radiation. However, this does not mean that it is impossible to tan with such means. In this cosmetics, the ratio of protective components from A and B radiation is approximately 1:3. Thus, you can both tan and protect your skin from harsh ultraviolet radiation.

The composition and components of sunscreen

To date, there are two main types of sunscreen cosmetics - with chemical and physical filters. The main difference between these products is that chemicals absorb ultraviolet light, while physical substances reflect it. Creams based on physical filters are called "sunscreens", chemical filters are called "sunblocks".

As a rule, chemical sunscreen compounds absorb type B rays, but recently products have appeared that are able to eliminate the danger of A-radiation. Physical sunscreens have a wider protective spectrum.

The main physical (mineral) filters are zinc oxide, iron oxide and titanium dioxide. These substances do not penetrate the subcutaneous layer and begin to act immediately after applying cosmetics. Particles of minerals refract and reflect the sun's rays, like a mirror, preventing them from penetrating into the deeper layers of the skin and damaging it.

Zinc oxide is an inorganic compound that has a beneficial effect on the epidermis, prevents the formation of free radicals under the influence of the sun's rays. Titanium dioxide is a chalky mineral product that is highly reflective.

Physical filters are absolutely safe for humans. They do not affect the composition of the blood, hormonal background, do not provoke the development of allergies and dermatitis. In recent years, manufacturers have begun to produce creams with physical filters, the size of the protective particles of which is measured in nano-units.

It is worth noting the main drawback of mineral sunscreen cosmetics - after its use, a whitish coating remains on the skin.

Sunscreen cosmetics based on chemical filters form a thin film on the skin, which allows the sun's rays to penetrate the skin, but be converted there into photoisomers. A special reaction takes place, and the energy of the photoisomers is released in long waves, which are safe for the human epidermis.

Chemical sunscreen cosmetics do not begin to act immediately after application. She needs a certain time (usually about half an hour) in order to begin to transform the sun's rays.

The role of chemical filters is performed by substances such as cinnamate, octoprilene, mexoril, avobenzone, oxybenzone, benzophenone, parsol, camphor products and others.

Chemical sunscreens are the subject of controversy among dermatologists and scientists. It has been repeatedly proven that these substances can adversely affect human health. First of all, they can act as allergens. In addition, these elements can provoke free-radical processes in the epidermis or break down under the influence of sunlight.

There is evidence that chemical filters are absorbed by the skin and enter the bloodstream, affecting the endocrine system and hormonal levels. For example, it has been proven that benzophenone can provoke female and male infertility. The most toxic effect has a filter such as oxybenzone. The average level of danger in octinoxate and homosalat. Avobenzone has low toxicity.

Also, the composition of sunscreen cosmetics includes antioxidants, for example, vitamins A, C, E, resveratol. They are not filters, but help to "capture" free radicals. In addition, minerals can be additionally included - calcium, zinc, various vegetable oils - coconut, almond, avocado, olives, wheat germ. All these components help to care for the skin, nourish it and promote regeneration. Thus, a beautiful and even tan is formed.

How to choose sunscreen

To choose the right sunscreen cosmetics, you need to consider several factors at once. It is fundamentally wrong to assume that the higher the SPF index, the more reliably your skin is protected. First, creams with a high protection factor may be more likely to cause allergic reactions. Secondly, they are not suitable for frequent use, since under their influence the dermis will not receive the necessary ultraviolet radiation and suffer from a lack of vitamin D.

Consider the main criteria for choosing the right sunscreen:

  • Finding the Right SPF. It should be chosen based on your own phototype and the latitude in which you plan to sunbathe. The most optimal for Europeans is index 30. It protects the dermis and allows you to get an even tan. It is advisable to use factors 50+ to protect the skin after peeling, burns, and allergic reactions. Also, this cream can be used by people who quickly develop pigmentation.
  • We study the composition of the cream for the presence of caring substances. Direct sunlight is a test for the skin. Therefore, it is important to select sunscreens that not only protect the dermis, but also nourish it. It is optimal if the sunburn cream contains panthenol, vegetable oil, extracts and soothing ingredients.
  • We choose sunscreens only from trusted manufacturers. Many dubious companies that produce sunburn creams sin by overstating the UV protection factor on the packaging. You need to buy goods from well-known brands that strictly control the compliance with the declared real level of SPF.
  • Checking for allergens. If you are allergic, then you should definitely examine the composition for the presence of substances that can cause you a negative reaction. For some, allergies are provoked by mineral compounds that are part of sunscreens, and someone has skin that is sensitive to the composition of sunblocks.
  • A good sunscreen should be waterproof.. This is the most convenient option for a beach holiday. Of course, this does not mean that after bathing it will not have to be renewed, but in the water it will also protect the skin from solar radiation for some time.
  • The older the age, the higher the SPF index should be.. Mature and aging skin needs stronger protection from ultraviolet radiation, as over the years the own protective functions of the epidermis are reduced.

sunscreen rating

Sunscreen cosmetics come in different forms. This must be taken into account when choosing a product for different skin types and appearance. In addition to the traditional form of cream, there are also lotions, milks, emulsions, oils, dry powders.

Which sunscreen to choose for dry epidermis

Dry and sensitive skin suffers more than other types of epidermis under the scorching rays of the sun. The composition of sunscreen cosmetics for such a dermis should include moisturizing ingredients, for example, glycerin, aloe extract, and so on.

Drugs containing alcohol should be avoided. These are, as a rule, various gels and sprays. It is optimal if the composition contains plant extracts and extracts, oils. True, consider their allergenicity.

For dry skin, tanning oil and milk are best. As for vegetable oils, coconut, almonds, avocados, shea butter, peach pits, sesame, wheat germ do a good job of sun protection. At the same time, orange and turmeric oils will enhance the tan, preventing the formation of burns. You can also mix oils for dry skin - avocado, sesame, wheat germ, lavender.

The sun's rays provoke the sebaceous glands of the skin to work more actively. Therefore, exposure to the sun for owners of oily and problem skin can adversely affect the condition of their epidermis. The task of sunscreen cosmetics for oily dermis is also to regulate the production of sebum.

Do not choose products with mineral oils in the composition. Preparations with light chemical filters are optimal for such an epidermis. Sprays and emulsions work well. They are easy to apply, absorb quickly and leave no shine. Also, cosmetics of this type do not clog pores and often include matting agents.

Sunscreens for children are classified as a separate group of cosmetics. The baby must have its own preparation for protection from the sun's rays. It is strongly recommended to choose a sunscreen for a child with physical filters - minerals.

All baby creams are designed for use from six months. Until this age, it is necessary to protect the child from the direct rays of the sun with clothing or a specially created shadow.

For children, sunscreen cosmetics with an SPF of 30 units are optimal. However, you should not opt for a product with a factor of 50+.
