Choice of luggage

Before you start packing, you need to decide whether you will try to cram everything into a backpack or take a large suitcase with you. I always carry a backpack, but many of my friends prefer bags on wheels. Both options have pros and cons.

Let's figure it out.

Suitcase / bag

  • It will become torture if you walk far from the bus stop / metro to the hotel and the internal toad will not allow you to call a taxi. In Europe, sidewalks are not ideal everywhere, by the way.
  • When stuffing your bag, remember that you will have to carry it up and down stairs and crowded streets.
  • It is best to take a suitcase with two powerful wheels. All-wheel drive is great for airports and smooth surfaces, but unbearable on rougher terrain.
  • The suitcase is the perfect travel companion for the winter sales.

Backpack

  • Travel backpacks are great because they make it easy to walk up stairs, in crowds, and still have your hands free.
  • On the other hand, a bunch of all sorts of garbage behind your back can literally piss you off in 3-4 hours.
  • You should not take a backpack the size of a school - it will not be allowed in hand luggage anyway. We recommend a volume of 45 liters.

A little about layers

Experienced guys will always choose several different sweaters instead of one huge sweater. This is the main secret (if anyone did not know).

This method helps you stay warm without having to carry sweaters that take up all the space in your bag.

  1. The base layer is the bottom layer. Designed to absorb your sweat.
  2. The middle layer is regular clothing. For example, shirt, sweatshirt, longsleeve, sweatshirt.
  3. The outer layer is a "protective shell" from wind, rain and snow. The ideal option is a membrane jacket.

Shoes

You can leave all these trendy Adidas and Nikes at home (or put them on a plane), but you should not walk in such shoes. Buy yourself waterproof boots. European winters are cold and rainy/sleet, rainfall is guaranteed.

In no case do not take brand new shoes on a trip, be sure to break them in. For extra comfort, buy a pair of insoles. Superfeet are good.

  • Timberland
  • native
  • Fracap
  • Caterpillar
  • The North Face

Now about clothes

Slim down jacket

It folds into a tiny handbag (approximately 30x15 cm) and perfectly warms under a jacket. Those who once bought one for themselves consider it their most rational purchase in life.

thermal underwear

The best is merino wool. It absorbs moisture very well, eliminates odor/bacteria and dries quickly. Unfortunately, such things are quite expensive, but they serve for a long time.

You can choose something synthetic. The main thing is to avoid cotton clothes (this includes socks) because cotton does not absorb sweat. In the case of socks, this leads to blisters and icy feet. By the way, thermal underwear can also become your pajamas (do not forget about the situation with heating in Europe).

Sports trousers

Who rustle. They will not get wet in the rain, and they are really hard to get dirty. Many brands have very good options that do not look too sporty.

Wool trousers

Useful if you want to look more elegant, but do not sacrifice warmth. The main thing is that it doesn't rain.

There is no one size fits all travel outfit. It all depends on the climate, the place, the purpose of the trip, your mood and many other things... For example, for a romantic weekend in Paris, you will obviously choose a different set than for a trip to the Alps or a beach holiday in Thailand. But still, some ideas can be applied to travel in different formats.

Comfortable clothes for travel

Leave your heels at home

If you still cannot imagine yourself without shoes with heels, take one of the most compact pair with you. At the very least, it can be useful for you for a beautiful photo shoot. The rest of the time, you are unlikely to pull smart sandals out of your suitcase every day: it is inconvenient to walk in them either on European paving stones or on southern sand. And there is nothing to say about different natural parks. Fashion trends today allow you to choose great flat shoes, use it!

folding things

For example, a foldable weightless down jacket will come in handy even on a summer trip - it is cool in the evenings, and in the mountains, for example, the wind always blows and even snow lies. You will find such a down jacket in the collections of many brands. It weighs a couple of hundred grams and practically does not take up space in a suitcase thanks to a compact case.

Universal combinations

Do you want to look different every day on vacation? To do this, it is not necessary to bring 15 sets of clothes with you - it is only important that all things can be combined in different ways. Take care of the selection of combinations at home before the trip. Then the suitcase will turn out light, and your vacation looks will be interesting. Win-win options are safari-style leisure and travel clothing, nautical style and sportswear. All this can be easily combined with each other. But if you fill your suitcase with chic dresses, most likely you will never wear most of them.

Wrinkle-resistant things

You don't want to spend precious vacation time ironing wrinkled things, do you? So do not take with you clothes for leisure and travel made of linen, chiffon or thick cotton. She will be very wrinkled in a suitcase. By the way, a simple life hack: if something is wrinkled, turn on hot water in the bathroom and hang the crumpled thing on a hanger there for a couple of minutes.

Clothing for travel in Europe

In Europe, it is very easy to recognize Russian girls - by inappropriately bright make-up in the morning, high-heeled shoes, diamonds and defiant, bright outfits. If you want to put on all the best at once and stand out from the crowd, you can certainly do it.

But if the eye-catching Russo Tourist look isn't for you, save your holiday makeup and stilettos for a New Year's corporate party. And for walking along the European streets, give preference to nude makeup, comfortable loafers or sneakers and minimalistic cut things.

After booking tickets and a hotel for recreation, tourists have a question about what to take on a trip from clothes. Unfortunately, it is impossible to stock up on absolutely everything, it is impossible to predict different options for the development of events on vacation.

Therefore, experienced travelers / tourists have made a number of recommendations for those who are just starting to spend their holidays in far and near countries.

Basic wardrobe of a tourist in summer

First of all, you need to decide on the style - you should not throw everything into suitcases, since it is unlikely that you can combine an openwork blouse with sneakers with thick soles.

Therefore, you need to understand exactly how you want to look when traveling:

  • sports style - we take only trousers, skirts and shorts that fit sports shoes, you can stock up on T-shirts and T-shirts, baseball caps;
  • romantic nature - tunics, loose capes and shirts, sundresses, open sandals will be an excellent choice;
  • business style - yes, some even on vacation want to be an eternally busy and business person, so light but strict dresses with a closed neckline, capri pants with blouses, trousers and blouses are suitable for them.

When choosing a wardrobe for traveling in the summer, you need to consider whether your vacation plans are enjoying the sun on the beach or sightseeing and excursions in the mountains. Additionally, it is worth knowing the peculiarities of the climate (for example, differences in day / night air temperatures) and the local mentality (in some countries, a woman in shorts can be looked at condemningly).

Experienced travelers have identified a few points that will clarify when packing a suitcase.

Material and color

Summer is hot, so it is worth giving preference to light and white shades of clothing. Yes, it gets dirty quickly, but it can be washed and dried at any time in a few minutes. If you choose clothes made of white natural material with a slight addition of synthetic fibers, then there will be no problems. But:

  • heat will be easier to bear;
  • you can often change your image;
  • the combination of tanned skin with white clothes is just amazing.

For hot countries, it is perfectly normal to change clothes several times a day, so there may be several light and white tunics, sundresses, T-shirts.

Do you need warm clothes?

There is no need to think that our grandmothers and mothers, who take a sweater on any trip, simply do not understand anything. In fact, they are acting wisely, because the difference between night and day air temperatures can be large. For example, in Thailand late in the evening without a sweater it is better not to go out - to freeze from the fresh wind and even get sick easily and simply.

From warm clothes, you need to take a thin, but voluminous jacket or cardigan - this will be enough. And it is better to give preference to a product made of natural wool - it will not allow overheating in the heat, and will warm it in the cold. Even the densest cotton, linen material will not have such an effect.

Do not reject the umbrella. Even the most accurate weather forecasts tend not to come true, it will be a shame to be on vacation in a hopeless situation (literally), because even a little rain can disrupt all plans.

Shoes

Any heels, tight/dress shoes should stay at home. Rest should be comfortable, practical for the soul and the whole body, so you need to take with you on a trip:

  • sneakers;
  • sandals;
  • light moccasins;
  • ballet shoes.

They should be light, graceful and flat. It is advisable to purchase inexpensive models - at any time you can find the loss of your shoes, so it's better to play it safe. By the way, in many countries you will need to take off your shoes before entering the temples. Naturally, there are a lot of remaining shoes on the threshold and it is not surprising that most of the models simply disappear in an unknown direction. A piece of advice from seasoned hikers is to always take backup pairs with you.

Headdress

A must have in a traveler's wardrobe! Wide-brimmed hats, caps, scarves will protect your head from the scorching sun and will not lead to fading of hair color. You can use a thin scarf - it is wrapped like a turban and worn complete with any clothing.

And the last thing to consider when packing for a trip in the summer is the peculiarities of the national mentality of the host country.

In many Muslim countries, the open body of a woman / girl is perceived very badly, it irritates the locals and makes their attitude towards the guests of the country not very positive.

Thin shirts with long sleeves, skirts, sundresses, trousers - these models will show respect for local traditions.

An additional bonus will be salvation from the scorching sun and the prevention of burns. And given that now most models are made from natural fabrics, you can not be afraid of heat stroke.

Winter travel clothes

Holidays are provided not only in the summer season, but it is better to travel to some countries in the winter - there is some charm in the northern beauties. Naturally, you need to think over your wardrobe in advance. And the first thing you need to pay attention to is outerwear. It may be a sweater coat, but such a model is only suitable for a trip to Europe, not to Scandinavia.

The best option would be a down jacket - lightweight, does not hinder movement, looks great with both dresses and trousers. Now on sale there are quite modern models that can be easily confused with a classic parka or tweed coat.

And here is what you should take for a winter trip from the basic wardrobe:

  • Trousers. A universal option that will allow you not to stand out from the crowd and be like everyone else. In this case, jeans and a sports jacket will be the best choice, but boring. Tweed pants, jockey pants with interesting/bright colors or an unusual print will help you to express yourself brightly and stylishly. Such models are combined with down jackets and coats.
  • Dresses. They can be made from fine cashmere, angora or tweed, but must be below the knee. It is convenient to move, sit and even run in them, they do not constrain movements and are in harmony with down jackets. If you prefer a warm dress, then you need to take several pairs of warm tights with you - let them also be made of natural material with a small amount of viscose or other synthetic fibers.
  • Shawls, scarves and hats. Here you can give free rein to your imagination and take everything you like with you on a winter trip. But you need to know that a knitted hat that covers your ears, a scarf with a national ornament to cover your head during city tours, and a scarf will come in handy.
  • Shoes. According to statistics, high-heeled boots and ankle boots, taken with you “just in case”, remain unclaimed for the entire vacation. You can definitely do without them, but you will need comfortable, not narrow boots with flat soles or a low platform. If the style is strictly sporty, then insulated sneakers with thick soles will come in handy.

For a winter trip, you will also need a handbag - it should not be a clutch or a miniature phone/wallet/mirror bag, as these models look ridiculous. You need to take a voluminous and baggy-looking bag with you - stylish and practical.

What to consider when traveling in Europe

Many of our compatriots look simply ridiculous in European countries, they can be distinguished from the local population right away - just look at their clothes. In order not to get into a mess, not to cause bewilderment and a smile on the part of local residents of European countries, it is worth remembering the following:

  • Lurex, rhinestones, frills and ruffles, open shoulders and necklines in the past - only modest and almost faceless outfits will look natural in Europe. Attributes of "luxury" are best left at home or go out into the street in the dark. You can "play" with the textures of fabrics, for example, try to combine a thin cashmere coat and a silk skirt. But without experience, it is unlikely that you will be able to look elegant in such an outfit, so it’s better not to risk it.
  • Jeans are obligatory - they are always appropriate, they go well with various sweaters and T-shirts, you can go to the museum, cafes, and travel on a river boat in them. Only jeans should be modest - without a scattering of rhinestones, lace inserts and "holes" (yes, torn models are also in the past).
  • Warm jackets and sweaters. Even if, according to the forecast, there will be sun and heat, this still does not mean anything - weather forecasters do not have a direct connection with the "heavenly office", and all other data are conditional. Let a suitcase contain a couple of jackets or sweaters, different in thickness.
  • T-shirts. They are universal - in case of a sudden cold snap, they can be put under a sweater and warmed up, in the heat they will become a real salvation. Large inscriptions, rhinestones, sequins and embroideries should be avoided - everything is neutral or with a minimum of decoration.

As far as shoes go, sneakers are the way to go. True, if there are shoes with rounded toes and a minimum heel, then this will be the best option - you can go to the museum, go on an excursion, and go to a restaurant. Just do not need to buy such a model just before the holidays! There is always the possibility that the shoes will squeeze and rub - what a pleasure to travel here, sheer pain and disappointment.

Fees for traveling by train, bus, car

If everything becomes clear with a suitcase for rest, then what to wear directly on the road remains a mystery. It would seem that eternal jeans and a T-shirt or sweater, coupled with sneakers, should solve the problem, no matter what transport you have to travel on. In fact, everything is not so simple.

Train

Its cleanliness can be doubted endlessly, therefore, it is necessary to prevent contact of body parts with seats in cars. On the train, you can lie down, sit down and even walk around the carriage. This type of transport involves stops during which people go out into the fresh air and stretch their muscles. Having compared everything, you can take with you:

  • tight leggings for a woman or sweatpants for a man - they allow you to sit and lie safely in comfortable positions, you can also sleep in them, because they do not crumple, do not twist, do not expose the body;
  • a classic-cut T-shirt and a thin synthetic sweater - no open necklines, short tops, T-shirts, everything is decent, comfortable, practical and not ashamed to go out on the platform during a stop;
  • light slippers or moccasins - you will definitely need more socks: hygiene, decency will be fully respected.

The material of clothing should be as natural as possible - in trains sometimes the temperature is so high even in winter that it will be uncomfortable in synthetics, sweating will increase, and heat stroke is possible.

Bus

Extreme travel - no normal sleeping place, no frequent stops, and the sudden braking of the bus often leads to food stains on clothes. Therefore, on the road you need to not only wear loose clothes - a T-shirt, leggings / sports trousers / shorts, but also take spare sets with you. The shoes are light and flat, all materials are natural, but with the addition of a small amount of synthetics, the clothes will not wrinkle.

Even on a summer bus trip, it is worth taking a thin woolen jacket with you - the nights can be cold, and the air conditioner can be turned on at the request of the other passengers.

Car

An ideal option, because it gives freedom of choice. You can even go in an evening dress and louboutins, but the usual traveler's wardrobe will be much more practical. Trousers / shorts and a T-shirt / sweater - a classic tourist in which it is comfortable and free. Be sure to take a spare set of “outfit” so that you can change it at any time - drinking and eating “on the go” is extremely inconvenient and often ends up with stains on clothes.

Travel is an exciting process. It can be made more comfortable and practical with the right wardrobe. The recommendations of experienced tourists will definitely come in handy, the main thing is to perceive them correctly and take them into service.

How does any journey begin, when the preparation stage has already been completed - the direction has been determined, tickets have been bought, visas have been received? That's right, we start to collect things. When you make dozens of trips to different countries and cities in a year, you develop a lot to automatism. You already know that if you are going to Perm for a couple of days, a photo backpack and a small backpack with the right set of things are enough. If you are flying to Europe for 4-7 days, a small suitcase or bag is enough. If longer and further, then you can’t do without a suitcase or a large backpack. But the most important thing is what to put there? What is the best clothes to take? How to predict what is needed and what is not, so as not to drag too much? How not to forget anything and take everything into account?
To date, I have come to an algorithm when I have a certain set of clothes and things that I take on trips for different seasons, which has clearly formed over time. This approach allows you not to carry too much with you, but also not to be without something that you will definitely need.
In today's review, I will not talk about absolutely everything, I will only talk about my set of clothes for traveling around Russia and Europe in the spring and autumn.

2. My short trip outfit fits in a small backpack or carry-on suitcase. For long or double trips (especially with different climates), I take a 65-liter suitcase (which also holds a tripod and a photo booth).
Photo equipment separately in a photo backpack.

3. From the clothes in my suitcase 1-2 pairs of trousers, 1 sweatshirt, 1 jacket, T-shirts (short and 1-2 long sleeves) according to the number of days of travel, 1 shorts, underwear, socks, 1 restaurant shirt, 1 pair of comfortable shoes.
Due to the fact that when I travel I like to actively shoot, walk and watch a lot, I take this whole set in addition to the clothes in which I fly. You can, of course, almost never change clothes, but several times I came across a situation where trousers and shoes turned out to be heavily soiled with grass due to a bad hike. I don’t like to look untidy during flights, so I immediately take off the clothes in which I fly and put on something from my standard travel kit.

4. What is the most important thing in travel clothes?
For myself, I have defined the following criteria:
- it should be comfortable;
- it should not be embarrassing, otherwise it is inconvenient to take pictures, moving with a backpack or photo unloading becomes uncomfortable and hot;
- it should be light in order to reduce the weight of the suitcase and sit more comfortably on the body:

5. Clothes should be reliable, not shed in the rain, not spread at the seams and not be rubbed as a result of light friction. It should also not be hot or cold. It is very important. Objects seem to complement each other if it's cold;

6. Shoes should be light, comfortable, reliable, have non-slip soles and an instep that is comfortable for you personally so that the foot does not get tired during long walks.
Until last year, I preferred running shoes, but recently I've been using the lightweight Skechers Expected textile sneakers with a very comfortable Memory Foam insole system. The feature of this insole is that it takes the form of the lower part of the foot, forming a comfortable instep.

7. It just so happens that wherever I go, I walk a lot and take pictures, so the degree of leg fatigue for me personally is extremely important.

8. He who travels actively never knows what situations he will get into).
Either you want to lie flat on the ground for a good shot, or ride a children's bike, or crawl on the grass, or something else ...
With the "wrong" pants eternal trouble. They can tear in the most unexpected place, and go apart at the seams, and shed from the water, and forever leave even the most harmless stain on themselves.

9. Try to find comfortable and lightweight pants made from highly durable fabric.
Ideally, they should dry quickly, be resistant to fading and frequent washing, and not be hot.

10. I have been wearing Merrell trousers of various models for several years now. My favorites are gray, and in summer khaki and protective colors.

11. The fabric composition of 2/3 cotton and 1/3 nylon makes them breathable, but also not afraid of such situations when holes can be wiped in 1-2 trips (if they are pure cotton)

12. The number of pockets on trousers does not matter to me, because. for all the little things - documents, phone, keys, money, etc. I use photo upload

13. Sometimes you have to jump over fences, running away from "an angry dog in the yard."

14. In spring and autumn, there are often strong changes in weather and temperature.
For this occasion, I take a sweatshirt and a compact Outventure wind- and moisture-resistant jacket with a hood.
I was really happy with this model. Lightweight, very compact and at the same time waterproof and windproof. Since last year, she has been with me on all my autumn and spring trips.

15. Between a T-shirt and a jacket, I use a Mountain Hardwear Strecker fleece sweatshirt. She came to replace my invariable orange hoodie, which you could see on many of my photos from past travels and now also invariably finds its way into my suitcase, and almost all year round - in winter, and summer, and autumn, and spring.
Fleece jackets are generally an ideal solution for people who love outdoor activities, because they are warm, light, comfortable and always very comfortable in them. If it suddenly becomes very cold, paired even with a simple thin windbreaker, the fleece will definitely not let you freeze.

16. Combining this small set of clothes, you can not freeze when it's really cool.
And at the same time, it takes up very little space in a suitcase or backpack.

17. Travel, get out more often in nature, in the mountains, to the sea and the places of your dreams.
And remember all the moments of your life, because it is so fleeting ...

Travel is becoming more accessible, distances between cities are being overcome faster and faster. A rare modern girl did not wonder how to dress for a trip: ladies go on vacation and on business trips, improve their cultural level and improve their health.

The choice of a fashionable image on the road will depend on the purpose of the trip, the duration of the journey, and, of course, the chosen mode of transport. We understand in this article how to take into account all the nuances of road life in your outfit without changing the style.

Basic rules for travel clothing

Regardless of how far you are going to cover and on what, initially be guided by a few important tips. So you weed out unsuitable wardrobe items.

  • Preference for plant materials

Cotton, linen, viscose, lyocell - these natural fabrics and their analogues will help you maintain optimal air exchange and temperature conditions. This is an important factor to consider when going on a tourist trip.

Let such clothes wrinkle more, yet in a polyester dress or trousers on the road it will be stuffy and uncomfortable. In some cases, even skin irritation is possible.

If it is critical for you that the clothes do not wrinkle too much, the content of synthetic threads is acceptable: nylon or elastane. Read the label carefully, the amount of synthetics should not exceed the threshold of three percent.

  • Shoes with low heels

It is easy to choose suitable low shoes for any set: at your disposal are all kinds of moccasins, loafers, sandals, ballet flats, espadrilles, sneakers.

Sneakers are best excluded from the list because of the laces. Shoes should be such that taking off and putting it on does not take much effort and time. Probably, on the way to a busy sightseeing trip, you will repeatedly want to quickly throw off your shoes from your tired feet, and put them on again as soon as you need to.

  • Backpack instead of handbag

As a maximum, a shoulder bag. Hands-free travel is essential.

It is not necessary to choose a voluminous travel backpack if you do not plan to fit all the luggage in it. Manufacturers provide fashionistas with a wide selection of compact and feminine urban backpacks.

To travel by rail

If you have to get to your destination by train , wear light cotton knee-length shorts in khaki. Combine with a bright opaque shirt.

A convenient option would be a shirt, the sleeves of which can be dissolved in full length, and, if necessary, shortened with a special fastener.

By air

If you plan to travel by plane, do not wear warm and tight-fitting clothes. Undressing and dressing in the limited space of the cabin is problematic. It is better to wear a light dress or a sundress that does not drag anywhere and without decorative elements. Even if you get a little chilly during the flight, the flight attendant will be happy to offer you a blanket.

Intercity buses

If you have planned a long bus ride, opt for a cotton or linen maxi skirt. You won’t be able to change clothes on the way, and if the cabin is cool from the air conditioner, the skirt will cover your legs and warm you. If it is stuffy, linen and cotton will provide air exchange. In addition, the skirt can always be lifted, gently exposing the knees.

You can complement the skirt with a top with straps. Be sure to take a thin cardigan with you.

On a journey to holy places

If you plan to go on a pilgrimage trip, give preference to soft clothes that cover the body. Please note that, as in church, trousers and especially shorts are not worn to holy places.

Stop for a thin dress with long sleeves, knee length. Don't use makeup.

In the cold season

The tips listed above are perfect when choosing how to dress for a summer trip. The winter months require special solutions.

Woolen fabrics are the best. But indoors in wool clothes can be stuffy. You can take off your wool sweater and put it next to it, but you get voluminous extra luggage.

Our advice is to use tech fabrics. Put on special thermal underwear under the main clothes. If necessary, you can undress in transport and stay only in it: modern thermal underwear is made in beautiful colors and interesting cuts.
