Felting wool beads. Felting wool beads. An economical way of felting

Now it is fashionable to make wool jewelry yourself at home. Stylish necklaces or beads made of soft beads are original and convenient, especially in the winter season. In addition, wool is a natural material, so these beads can rightfully be called eco-friendly. I must say that felting blanks for beads using the wet felting method is easier than using the dry felting technique. Today we will learn how to create beads using wet felting. And for this we will definitely need:

  • Wool (beige, chocolate, cream)
  • Soapy water solution
  • Beads (beige, light beige)
  • Mouline thread (thread color dark brown, dark yellow, turquoise)
  • Brown satin ribbon
  • Decorative clips
  • Waxed tourniquet
  • Turquoise beads

Felted wool beads

First of all, we knit wool beads. Prepare a soap solution (liquid soap + water). Tear pieces of wool.

I made nine beads. Therefore, you will need nine pieces of wool. Plan in advance what color the beads will be. Be sure to make a few beads of mixed color, they will decorate the accessory. In order to make such a three-color bead, take three parts of different colors of wool and form a ball from this mass, dip it in soapy water. Start rolling the ball between your palms. Do this very carefully at a slow pace.

After a series of several movements, the mass will begin to take the form of a ball and gradually condense. Achieve the desired density, volume and finish felting. The bead should turn out to be quite hard, preferably without defects and holes. If everything suits you, rinse the bead under cold water, wring it out and put it to dry. Run nine beads in a similar way and leave to dry on a radiator.

We decorate beads with embroidery

Of course, you can leave the beads as they are after drying, but we will try to decorate them with additional beads and embroidery. It's easy to do, even fun.

Take a beige bead and embroider two rims horizontally with a blue thread.

Now let's sew these rims with a satin stitch.

In a circle we embroider a grid with a dark yellow thread. And on top we add embroidery with a brown thread.

Here is what has been done.

Next, embroider crosses in the grid with a blue thread. Let's place dark beige beads in the voids between the crosses.

Be sure to make the same pattern on the back of the bead, because it will spin randomly on the cord.

The next bead we will decorate will be a chocolate-colored bead. We also embroider two rims with a blue thread, but horizontally along the entire bead. We fill the void with crosses.

We embroider French knots on the top and bottom of the pattern. It's easy. Wind the thread around the needle four times and stick it next to where the thread exits.

In the center of the crosses, draw small crosses with a yellow thread. Complete the pattern with beads.

Now we will decorate the cream-colored bead with embroidery. Embroider the “gusli” with a brown thread with a chain stitch.

Inside, repeat the pattern with a blue thread. Sew on the beads. Repeat the pattern inside with a dark yellow thread.

Decorate another bead with flower embroidery. Embroider a French knot in the center of the flower, and decorate the edges with petals. Make flowers evenly throughout the bead.

Here are the beads we got.

We collect beads on a tourniquet

The turn has come to string the beads on the tourniquet. Do not forget that there should be a distance between the elements on the tourniquet so that the beads are not squeezed tightly, resembling a bunch of sausages. Tie strong knots at both ends of the tourniquet and thread a satin ribbon into them, the size of which you must measure in advance.

Slide the decorative clips onto the knots and use pliers to secure the clips.

Glue the ends of the ribbon or tie in a knot. That's it, our unusual accessory is completely finished. It remains only to try on the beads.

Let's get started. I divide the bead felting process into: dry and wet. Let's start dry. To do this, lay out the pieces of wool on the film in such a way that it forms like a mesh.

Those. first lay the wool horizontally, and then vertically.

So we do several rows.

After that, the resulting wool is carefully shaped into a ball.

Then we put the resulting airy and light ball on the substrate.

I have a piece of material that resembles foam as a substrate. After that, using a felting needle, we seal the ball.

We do this evenly from all sides so that there are fewer creases on the bead. After the ball has slightly decreased in size, pour some hot water into the bowl, add a little liquid soap, or detergent, as in my case.

Put the ball on the film and lightly moisten with soapy water.

We do this so that the wool fibers soften and better interlock with each other. The felting time depends on how the wool lends itself to this process. Personally, I like to use Australian merino wool for this. Semenov wool would be more suitable for felting bags and other dense products. We begin to roll the ball over the film with light movements. We try not to press hard so as not to deform the bead too much.

Periodically add hot water to the bead so that the wool is hot and pliable. After the ball has condensed a little more, we take it in our hands and begin to give it the shape of a bead with both hands, already slightly pressing and compacting it. We get just such a bead.

As you can see, creases have formed on the bead, which we can easily hide with you. To do this, take a little merino wool and wrap it around a bead.

We moisten with hot soapy water and begin to roll it to the bead. To do this, we take the bead in our hands and begin to roll it over the film with intense movements until the top layer of wool is securely attached to the bead.

In a step-by-step master class, you will see how to make beautiful wool beads using the wet felting technique with your own hands.

This needlework is simple and exciting, having learned to felt on simple things, you can create beautiful designer items and souvenirs. Felted woolen beads perfectly complement knitted clothes - they are soft and cozy, light and do not leave puffs. This decoration can be worn with an open collar, and with collars under the throat. If you like bulky jewelry, increase the diameter of the beads.

Preparation of materials for felting

To make beads from wool, buy materials and tools at the needlework store:

  • wool of two colors (in the master class, black and white are taken as the basis, but you can stop at your favorites);
  • floss threads to match the wool;
  • black satin narrow ribbon;
  • black braid;
  • gypsy needle;
  • beads (white mother-of-pearl, black);
  • glass beads (white, black).

How to make wool beads

Making beads with your own hands, start with felting wool beads. To do this, pour warm water into a bowl, make a few clicks on the liquid soap dispenser to obtain a soapy solution.

Lay out a towel and start preparing the wool. Divide the wool into nine parts, because there will be nine balls. Make four white pieces, two black pieces, and three mixed colors.

To make a bead, roll a piece of wool into a ball and dip it completely in soapy water. Next, start rolling on your hand, gently making circular movements, without pressure. As soon as you feel that the ball is taking shape and rising, you can roll it out more intensively until you get the desired density.

Then rinse the workpiece under clean cold water, squeeze lightly in your hand and put it on the battery to dry. Make all the details for the beads in a similar way. Mixed color blanks are also easy to make. Roll a white ball, and add a black transparent strand on top. Roll out in your hands and dry.

Bead decoration and assembly

After all the details for the beads are completely dry, start decorating with embroidery, beads and braid. In total, you need to decorate four beads.

Bead #1

Take the white ball. Apply a pattern on both sides of it as in the photo - a cross.

Place a large bead or bead in the center, you can insert a loop under the bottom for beauty.

Fix with a thread and lay out black and white stripes of beads on the four sides of the cross.

Then embroider the outline of the cross with a black floss thread with a chain stitch.

Stepping back a little space, make the cross border with the usual stitches for embroidery. Sew white beads in empty places between the legs of the cross.

Bead #2

Embroider flowers with white thread on a dark wool bead made with your own hands. Tie a French knot in the center of the flower. To do this, wrap the thread four times around the needle itself and stick it near the exit point of the thread from the ball.

Gently pull the thread, the design will be fixed and a French knot will form.

Arrange the petals around the knot. Form a curl from the thread and pick it up with another stitch from above.

Thus embroider six petals. In this master class on felting beads, three flowers turned out.

Bead #3

You will need a white bead. Draw exactly two horizontal lines on the ball with a simple pencil. Embroider these lines with black thread.

Fill in the inside between the lines with crosses.

In the center of the crosses, embroider another small cross with white thread. Sew beads (white mother-of-pearl) between the crosses. Tie French knots at the top and bottom of the embroidery.

Bead #4

Decorate this white ball with decorative braid. Find it on top.

From above, create, as it were, arcs of black thread, fasten them in the center so that they do not fall apart.

Decorate the braid with white beads.

Jewelry assembly

Collect felted beads on a thin satin ribbon. Measure the required length of the ribbon, try it on so that the decoration can easily pass through the head, since there will be no fastener.

Thread a satin ribbon into a gypsy needle and string wool beads, alternating in color. Insert glass elements between them and be sure to make knots on the tape for fixation.

When finished stringing, tie or glue the ends of the ribbon. Original felted wool beads are ready to decorate a trendy outfit!

The basics of the basics: how to equip yourself for wet felting jewelry

First you need to decide on your favorite color and style of clothing - beads should be in harmony with your image.

You need the main material - not combed wool. You can use any intended for felting.

Combed wool is more elastic, so it will be more difficult to roll the ball into a tight ball.

The color and quantity of wool fibers depends on how the desired decoration appears. : plain or colored, under the neck or loosely hanging.

If the intended beads are short, you will need a special lock. It is purchased in a specialized store along with other fittings.

Beads can be not only round. With a little practice, you can learn how to give them an oval or oblong shape.

It is possible to alternate wool balls with beads made of wood, metal, plastic; decorating them with embroidery, beads or something else. Design decisions will be prompted by fantasy.

Workshop on wet felting wool beads at home

Felted beads, similar to a precious stone, look spectacular.

Master class presents making "malachite" beads of the Mistress of the copper mountain.

Materials and tools

  • Combed ribbon of noble green color.
  • A little bit of black to create veins "on the stone".
  • Pimply film - speeds up the dumping process.
  • Hot water container.
  • Liquid soap without cream additives.
  • Towel.
  • Gypsy needle.
  • Thin needle.
  • A narrow satin ribbon, in color in harmony with the intended decoration. Beads are collected on it, which looks very beautiful. In this case, the clasp is not needed - a beautiful bow will replace it.
  • Glue "Moment Crystal" for processing the edge of the tape.

Sequencing

1. Blanks for beads. Tear off thin long strands from the green combed ribbon, two for each bead. Do not forget that the wool shrinks during the felting process - take it with a margin. If you need beads of the same size, then the strands must be prepared in advance, according to the desired number.

Pieces of wool should be of the same density. Later, it is difficult to determine the amount of fibers used to make the first bead.

Taking the strand by the edge, roll it into a bun. Wind the second strand on top. You should get a tight ball. Prepare the material for all beads in the same way. Wrap thin strands of black fiber on each green blank, imitating veins on the stone.

2. Wet felting. Immerse the balloon in the soap solution. Be sure to hold it with your fingers, thereby preventing the fibers from unwinding. The bead should be well saturated with water. Lightly squeezing the ball, start rolling it between your palms. The movements should be very soft - without pressure.

Excess foam from the ball can be removed by dipping it in a container with soapy water. To speed up the process of dumping the bead, start rolling it on a bubble wrap. Increase the pressure as the ball compacts.

If it has become hard, and the woolen fibers are firmly attached to the surface, you can finish felting. In the same way, make the required number of beads.

3. Wash, dry. Rinse the beads well in running warm water, and then in cold. Finally, roll each ball between your palms, aligning the shape.

Make holes for the tape in advance, before drying. When the beads dry, it will be much more difficult to pierce them through. You can pierce the beads with a gypsy needle or a thin knitting needle. Make more holes for the tape.

You can dry the balls on a knitting needle, or use toothpicks for this purpose. It will take the night to dry. The next day, start assembling the beads into the original jewelry.

4. Assembly. Spread the dried beads on a cloth or towel. This is necessary so that they do not roll away. Cut the edge of the tape obliquely and treat it with Moment Crystal glue. When the glue dries, using a gypsy needle, string the beads onto the ribbon.

The beads are ready. Wear them with pleasure, feeling like a fabulous Mistress of the copper mountain.

Interesting ideas for felting wool beads

Mommy can make a special decoration for children who mastered the basics of wool felting. These are the so-called mother-beads (sling-buses)a feminine adornment that is also a toy for a child. The baby, being in the arms of the mother or in a sling, occupies himself, and does not pull on his mother. Mama beads act as a sedative.

There is a peculiarity in the manufacture of these beads: the wool should not shed, the beads should be attached to a ribbon or a knitted pigtail. The main rule is the safety of the baby. Beads are very easy to care for - they are washed like baby clothes.

Make beads for your loved one. Initially, beads were a men's accessory. Our very distant great-grandfathers, successful hunters or tribal leaders, demonstrated their supremacy with decorations made from animal teeth or bones.

Wet felting from wool. Master Class

Master class "Felting jewelry from wool"

Author: Vasyukova Svetlana Alekseevna, teacher of additional education, MBOU DOD "House of Children's Creativity"
The master class is designed for students aged 10-12
The wonderful holiday of March 8 is approaching, and what else can please mom more than a gift made by the hands of a child. Jewelry, which we ourselves knit from wool, will be a wonderful gift for mom.

The purpose of the master class:
development of independence and increase in the creative abilities of children through arts and crafts - felting from wool.
Tasks:
get acquainted with the technology of wet felting from wool and the history of felt production;
promote the development of imaginative thinking, creative independence, memory, imagination, attention, fine motor skills, cause a desire to fantasize, develop a sense of composition in children;
cultivate aesthetic taste, accuracy, perseverance, patience, attentiveness, diligence.

Nomads were the first people to appreciate the unique properties of felt. They made houses, clothes (insoles, cloaks and men's hats), interior items (carpets, runners, pillows), livestock equipment (saddle parts, saddlecloths and horse blankets, large felt bags for transporting goods, etc.) utensils (bags for storing tea, small dishes and other small items), bedding for newborn calves.
In Rus', felt appeared in the era of the Mongol-Tatar yoke. Much later, about two hundred years ago, in Russia they learned how to make felt boots from wool. But in addition to felt boots in Rus', cloth was also made, which was quite popular, felt for household needs and felted hats.
So let's start making a set of jewelry from wool. In the course of work, we will make beads and a brooch that you can give to your beloved mother.

The first step is to make beads.

On the Day of the eighth of March
Mommy beloved
I will give you the sun
Golden ray!
Let the ray touch
mother's head,
Kiss on the cheek
Sweet and awkward!
Straight through the clouds
My playful ray
Will warm mom
golden mane,
Eyes tickle,
Having fun playing
And mother wakes up
Smiling at the sun!

We will need:

Organza ribbon about 1m long;
combed wool for felting - about 10 g

20 plastic beads - 5 mm in diameter
bowl of soapy water
soap
towel
gypsy needle with a wide eye
scissors

Step 1. Layout of wool for beads.
We take a skein of combed wool in our hand, with the fingers of the other hand we grab the very tip of the woolen fibers. We tear off a thin strand of wool.
From such strands we form a woolen bead. We put the first strand on the table, the second at a right angle to the first, and so we fold several strands, perpendicular to the previous strand.
So lay out a soft, loose stack of wool from the wool.

Step 2 After you have laid out the wool for the bead, fold it into a ball.
We wrap the left edge of the strand, then wrap the right edge at a right angle, etc.

So we wrap the wool until a ball is formed.

It is still quite loose and easily disintegrates, and in order to proceed to the next process - felting, you will need soapy water.

Step 3 We prepare a soap solution for felting: for half a liter of water, 1 tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent, preferably not a bright color, otherwise the wool will be stained.
Soak a woolen ball in soapy water, wring out excess water and start rolling the ball.

The first movements should be light, soft. As if you are just rolling the ball in your palms. You can use a dishwashing sponge. On the abrasive side of the sponge, the top layer of the bead very quickly begins to fall off and harden. After the top layer of the ball gets stronger, you can make an effort and roll to the state of "pebble". The finished bead should be solid to the touch, of the correct shape, without creases.
Creases are formed if you start to roll a ball that has not yet become stronger, applying force. The ball gives a fold and in the future this fold develops into such a “scar”, i.e. hall.
In this way, knit a few beads.

Step 4 Let's start assembling the beads.
At the beginning of work, lay out the beads in size. We put the largest bead in the center, mirror it on the sides in descending order.
Distribute plastic beads between wool beads.

With a gypsy needle we make a through hole in the center of the woolen ball and string it on the needle.

On a note. To facilitate piercing, it is better to turn the bead with the needle to the right and left. In this way, you will avoid deformation of the ball.
We take the next woolen ball and, as in the previous step, we pierce it exactly in the center with a gypsy needle. We thread the tape into the needle, push the needle through the ball.

On a note. Bead beads should be quite dense, and therefore it will not be so easy to pass a needle with a ribbon with your fingers. Use pliers to make the process easier. Grab the sharp end of the needle with pliers with one hand, and hold the ball between the fingers of your other hand.
We move the bead away, cut off the tip of the tape at a very sharp angle, so that it freely passes through a small hole in the plastic bead.
And in the reverse order we thread plastic beads, alternating them with woolen ones.
Align the beads on the ribbon. Cut off the excess piece of tape. The ends of the ribbon on the sections can be burned with matches.

Beads are ready! Well done!
Let's start making a peony flower using the wet felting technique.

Felting a flower from wool is a fairly simple process, even a person who first encounters this type of needlework as a master can create an amazing and bright product. The choice of a flower for this master class was not accidental, the peony is one of the most spectacular flowers, and a brooch in the form of a bright flower will be a perfect decoration for almost any outfit.
So, in order to felt a flower from wool in a wet way, you will need:
natural wool (colors: white and red);
soap solution;
bubble wrap;
kapron mesh;
scissors.

Step 1. We roll the petals
As with beads, pull out thin strands of wool from the combed ribbon and give each of them a triangular shape with loose fibers on one side and a thin tip on the other. Lay out the pieces in a circle. The first layer is laid out from the center of the circle (hand in the center).

Proceed to laying out the second layer. This time lay out the wool along the outer contour of the circle.
To get an even felt when felting wool, try to lay out the wool evenly without gaps and excessive compaction. Remember that wool will shrink by a third during felting.

Step 2 Wet wool evenly with soapy water. It is good to use a bottle with a pinned cap, so the wool will be evenly moistened, but do not overdo it, a puddle of excess moisture will only interfere with our work. Cover with mesh. After that, gently rub the wool with your palms over the net. The movements should be careful, it is necessary to smooth the flower to the center, so the edges of the flower will roll more evenly. When the wool begins to acquire a denser texture, increase the pressure. You also need to periodically turn the flower over for uniform dumping.

Step 3

Step 4 When the wool is felt a little, fold the edges of the wool over for a more even edge. We continue to roll the flower already with a folded edge
Step 5 In the same way, we proceed to the layout of the second tier of the petal. To get lively shades of peony, lay out white streaks from white wool in the middle of the red circle. Felting in the same way as the first tier.
