Christians consider Easter the brightest holiday of the year. Easter cards and eggs, handmade crafts will help create a festive mood and special comfort in the house. In this collection you will also find interesting gift ideas for friends and family.

Easter egg decoration

For decoration, both colored and unpainted eggs can be used. Considering that glue is used in almost all ways of decorating Easter eggs, it will no longer be possible to eat such eggs. Therefore, it is better to use blown eggs that can be stored for years. In the event that you want to use Easter eggs for food, use raw egg white instead of glue.

How to blow out an egg? To do this, pierce it on both sides with a needle, then pierce the yolk with a long needle or wire so that it flows out more easily. Gently blow the egg with a straw into a plate (you can also use a syringe).

When working with eggshells, there is always a risk that it will crack. The original solution to this problem is offered by the Land of Masters website. In order for the shell not to crack during decoration, it is necessary to fill the blown egg with polyurethane foam. For detailed instructions, see the link.

The easiest way to decorate Easter eggs is to use store-bought or homemade stickers. Cut out Easter-themed pictures from a magazine or print from the Internet and small in size so that they can lie flat on the surface of the egg without wrinkles. For example, how.

Apply PVA glue or special decoupage glue to the egg, glue the picture, you can cover the picture with another layer of glue on top. Let dry.

In the decoupage technique, you can use napkins with beautiful spring drawings or patterns. Cut out pictures from tissue paper. It is not necessary to do this very evenly, you can leave small white edges, because they will still be invisible on the egg. Peel off the top layer of the patterned napkin, you won't need the other two layers. Lubricate the surface of the egg with glue or egg white. Carefully smoothing out the folds, glue the cut out pattern or pattern. Apply another layer of glue on top. Let dry.

For Easter decoupage, it is better to take white eggs, because the pattern looks brighter on them.

For decoration, you can use the shell of colored eggs. Use PVA glue to stick it on your Easter egg.

You can also glue Easter eggs with bright floss threads in contrasting colors.

Lace, ribbons, braid

Easter tree

Decorating a house for Easter with an Easter tree is, first of all, a Western European tradition. This custom is especially widespread in Austria and Germany. The Easter tree is intended to symbolize the Paradise Tree of Life and, perhaps, completely different shapes and sizes.

It is best to use willow branches for its manufacture. Place stones, pebbles, floral foam, moss, earth in a wide-mouthed vase or small bucket. You can simply put willow branches in a vase of water. The main decoration for the tree should, of course, be Easter eggs.

To make such a decoration is quite simple. First you need to blow out the egg. Take a beautiful ribbon, fold it in half, make a small loop on top, tying a knot. Use this loop to hang an Easter egg on a tree. Now thread both ends of the ribbon through the egg. Put on a bead from below and tie another knot. Trim the ends of the ribbon with scissors.

Text prepared by: Veronica

Making crafts for Easter with your own hands is a long tradition. This is not just needlework, the life-affirming essence of the Bright Holiday is expressed in home-made Easter souvenirs. That is why it is customary to give Easter crafts, and you cannot refuse if they are given away like this. If possible, you just need to give at least something corresponding to Easter symbols to those you meet on the street: this holiday is older than any of the religions recognizing it and means that all good beliefs have something in common. What exactly? Take your time, everything has its time, we will discuss, we will not bypass.

The basis of the holiday

How to make Easter crafts with your own hands, no canons have been established, neither secular nor church, the little thing would be funny, kind and cheerful. But by the very essence of Easter, its main element is always an egg, to which, perhaps, a meaningful entourage is also added. A harmonious combination of parts of the Easter composition according to the general idea will convey the spirit of the holiday and create a favorable mood.

Easter eggs don't have to be natural; Easter eggs - masterpieces of applied art of world significance - are well known. But the natural base - a boiled egg or shell - is certainly decorated. The photo shows only some examples of amateur decoration of Easter eggs: painting, appliqué, inlay, decoupage, beading, tying, covering with ribbons, etc. Lovers manage to decorate Easter eggs, and not bad, even with pasta. Now such seemingly non-Easter techniques as quilling and kanzashi are widely used, but they apparently do not contradict the spirit of the holiday: their origins are in the same place as our Easter, only on the basis of local conditions. It is possible to combine several techniques in one craft.

Note: Kansas decor has nothing to do with the state of Arkansas, its capital Kansas City, or the Indians who inhabited this area before the arrival of Europeans. Kanzashi is a Japanese technique.

The basis of the Easter egg decor is color and pattern; possibly vegetable. Images of people and animals are the latest stratification. Easter encompasses much more than a single being or person, or all that is, persons and beings. Therefore, it is customary to paint Easter eggs with your own hands in compliance with some specific rules, see fig.

It would be absolutely legal to just paint real eggs, pos. 1; perhaps with a simple irregular pattern in the spirit of the holiday. This is available to everyone, even those who do not have artistic taste and skill, see below. Those who can draw can be advised to depict traditional (folk) spring patterns, pos. 2 and 3; a golden background, symbolizing the source of life - the Sun - is more than appropriate. Those who understand the intricacies of esotericism, witchcraft, etc. can display sacred geometric patterns, also traditional or of a general meaning, pos. 4 and 5. But - only good ones! Wishing evil on Easter, albeit secretly, will turn against yourself. Finally, those and other semantic layers can be freely combined, pos. 6, if only everything together was for good.

history of the holiday

So what kind of holiday is Easter? Our Resurrection of Christ and the Jewish day of deliverance from the Egyptian yoke - Pesach - did not arise from scratch. Easter was celebrated long before Christ, and he himself with his disciples too; On Passover, Jehovah killed the firstborn of Egypt, letting Pharaoh know: do not keep the Jews, let them leave.

Easter was originally an agricultural holiday of paramount importance for spring sowing. and was celebrated in the same age as ancient Egypt - Sumer. By the end of the Stone Age, agriculture had already been developed in the foothill oases, which soon became overpopulated. Part of the population was driven out to the fertile but arid plains; those who survived and gave rise to civilization were those who had the opportunity to provide irrigation of sown areas, but in all respects it was more difficult than digging a canal from a mountain stream in the field. It was the need to coordinate joint efforts to survive that gave rise to state mechanisms.

In Egypt, crops were guaranteed by the floods of the Nile, whose sources are in the equatorial zone with a stable climate. The sources of the Tigris and Euphrates, which irrigate the homeland of the Sumerian culture, Mesopotamia (or Mesopotamia) are near the northern border of the subtropics, and it was much more difficult to guess the time of sowing here. The Sumerians had to strain all their powers of observation, ingenuity and lay the foundations of astronomy in order to eventually derive an algorithm for calculating the start date of sowing: the first Sunday immediately after the first spring full moon, i.e. the first full moon after the spring equinox. They established this pattern no later than 3500 BC. e; some scientists believe that the Sumerians already knew the date of the spring sowing holiday, and their predecessors learned to determine it approx. for 6000 years b.c. e.

In the future, the development of agricultural technology, climate change and astronomical factors (for example, the precession of the earth's axis) shifted the timing of agricultural work, made it possible to expand the area of agriculture and reduce the dependence of yields on climatic factors. Nevertheless, among the Semitic peoples, the day of the beginning of sowing remained the main holiday of the year. Its original meaning was forgotten, but Easter retained the meaning of the holiday of rebirth and the triumph of life. The historical account then went not by years, but by events, and it is not surprising that the most important of them, in the absence of a common date for the beginning of the chronology and a written organized historiography, turned out to be tied to Easter.

The Jews borrowed from the secret Egyptian cult, accessible only to the priests of the highest initiation, monotheism, and made it public property. The new vision of the unity of all things provided more opportunities for the development of the individual and society than the previous pantheons of deities with their mutual squabbles and love affairs. Having grown out of monotheism, Christianity adopted Easter; more precisely, it could not get rid of the holiday of the rebirth of life, but its date began to be calculated in accordance with the same astronomical principle, but according to changed rules: Christ, according to the Gospels, was crucified on the Jewish Passover (Pesach), and resurrected three days later. The clergymen, who were pagan in origin, did not touch the symbols and attributes of Easter at all, and even tried to sum up the foundations of their teaching under them: if it is necessary to give on this day, then where, first of all, if not to the temple?

Note: The popularity and vitality of Easter was also facilitated by the fact that any more or less sane atheist recognizes the role of religion in the development of human society rather positive, and certainly will not object to the common holiday of life for all.

About the date of Easter

In well-known sources (eg Wikipedia), the principle of calculating the date of Easter is formulated as follows: the first Sunday after the spring new moon. Here is an inaccuracy that allowed Christians to "get rid" of Pesach and each of the Christian churches to compose their Paschalia. If, for example, the spring new moon fell on Wednesday, then what, next Sunday is already Easter? No, you need to wait until the new moon after March 21 falls on the night from Saturday to Sunday, which then will be Easter. The date of Easter will change from year to year. within March 23 - May 2. The closest thing to the Sumerian feast of the sowing is Orthodox Easter. The Anglican Church tried in 1948 to make Easter a non-transferable holiday by setting it on the second Sunday in April. This date is accepted by some Protestant and Evangelical sects.

Easter symbols

Well, what's the deal, making Easter souvenirs? A little more, you need to understand their symbolic meaning, so that the composition comes out pleasing to the eye and harmonious in spirit. Superstitions are superstitions, but everything must be put together so that it is simply joyful to look at.

Easter compositions, as mentioned above, are formed around the egg. The beliefs of the peoples who created the first centers of civilization included world egg as a symbol of the rebirth of life. And Aristotle, who already lived in a fairly developed time, cited as an example of dialectics: here, they say, a living bird is born from a dead egg. The fact that a stone-like egg is also a living object, people began to guess much later.

Note: Aristotle is the only one of the "pagan" thinkers whose teaching was recognized as completely true by the Christian church.

The next most important Easter symbols are the chicken that lays eggs and thereby ensures the continuation of life, and the chicken that hatches from the egg and continues it. They are followed by the tree of life in the form of an Easter tree hung with eggs or crowned with an egg (see below), which symbolizes future fruits. The Easter tree does not follow from the Christmas tree, on the contrary, the Christmas tree with decorations came from the Easter tree in a temperate climate: snow in the fields - harvest in the bins. The family of Easter symbols is completed by a round Easter basket, symbolizing the Sun, which gives life, and also a round egg stand, meaning the full Moon, the combination of which with the Sun gives impetus to its rebirth. Easter candles - a symbol is also desirable, and in some churches it is obligatory; here the symbolism is completely transparent: light, the light of life.

The Anglo-Saxon and Romanesque peoples, who inherited a lot from the Celts with their druidic cult, unexpectedly found themselves among the Easter symbols ... a rabbit. This is pure relic of paganism. Druids, for their own reasons, independently learned to calculate the date of Easter Sunday, and simple Celts firmly believed that on the night before him, wild rabbits (namely, rabbits, not rabbits) ... lay eggs. Finding a rabbit egg was considered the greatest fortune.

Druidism was any kind of religion, but not a good one, but in our country this prejudice has not become more widespread for a curious reason: in English rabbit's eggs and rabbit's balls it is immediately clear that we are talking about completely different things, but both in Russian - "rabbit eggs" - it is impossible to get rid of ambiguity. Nevertheless, a cute and by no means evil Easter bunny (there are no wild rabbits in the boreal zone) will not spoil the Easter surroundings, and children will understand the complex symbolism of the egg more clearly.

Finally, the Easter wreath. He is already a descendant of Christmas, which is also of druidic origin, but is not prohibited by the church. Hanging it on the wall for Easter for a believer will not mean anathema and even penance, only a wreath for Easter should not contain needles, mistletoe, holly, holly, etc. elements of no Easter value. The Easter wreath should be round, preferably from willow branches, with flowers, greenery; highly desirable - with eggs (better - in a basket nest) and a chicken, emphasizing its sinlessness, see fig. a little higher.

We start needlework

Now you can get to work. It will go through the elements according to their value. We will try to focus more on crafts from improvised materials, not for the sake of saving, but in order to show vitality in the efficiency and fruitfulness of labor. The Sumerians believed that the world hatched from an egg, and we will start with it.

Easter eggs

The best basis for an Easter craft that is not eaten is the shell of a bird's egg. On sale you can find, in addition to chicken and quail, duck and goose eggs, which gives a fairly wide range of blank sizes. Guinea fowl eggs are remarkably strong: they do not always break when dropped from the table to the floor. Blanks for Easter souvenirs made from whole eggshells have a wonderful property: they easily accept any coloring method (see below), because the shell absorbs the dye.

It is not difficult to get an empty, seemingly whole, shell. This is done step by step as follows:

  • A fresh raw egg needs to be rubbed between the palms of petroleum jelly, and when it is absorbed, rub the same again, this will give the shell strength;
  • With the tip of a sharp knife, a thin nail or a hand gimlet, drill holes with a diameter of 2-3 mm on the poles of the egg;
  • Put a thin sharp splinter (for example, a toothpick) into any of the holes, pierce the yolk and lightly chat the egg;
  • Substitute a glass and blow out the contents into it, which will go into the dough, scrambled eggs or scrambled eggs;
  • Pour hot water into the shell from a medical syringe, chat the shell, blow out the contents, do the same 2-3 more times.

Note: chicken eggs are best taken from poultry. In poultry farms, chickens are given a minimum of calcium to increase egg production, so factory eggs are not very durable.

It will be possible to paint an empty eggshell without painting only in a cold way (see below), but mini-banners are obtained from shells dyed in one tone, see fig. on right. The shell on a stick is fixed with drops of glue. Before putting the workpiece on the holder, you can put paper rolled up with tubes with good wishes into the shells.

How to paint eggs?

Homemade eggs for Easter (see below) are painted with any paint suitable for this material. Acrylic paints are universal: they lie on almost any surface, they are bright, durable, resistant, and allow the use of miniature technique. Only foam plastic has features, it is able to crumble or settle from any liquid that is not water. Therefore, the foam blank of the egg souvenir must be strung on a stick (there is already a hole for it in the float blanks), dip in PVA, let it dry completely and do the same procedure 1-2 more times. In addition to better adhesion to the paint, the PVA film will increase the strength of the workpiece.

You can paint natural eggs for Easter, or their shells-blanks, you can already boiled in a cold way or raw with boiling. According to tradition, eggs dyed cold with patterns are called Easter eggs, and eggs dyed with boiling are called Easter eggs. If an edible egg is dyed, natural, harmless dyes should be used. You can buy both food and special ones for Easter eggs, but it is possible to get by with natural food products.

How to paint eggs for Easter in a cold way is shown in fig. higher. “In a cold way” is relative here, because. eggs can be bathed in a solution of hot dye, the depth of tone depends on it. But to obtain a clear pattern, the solution should not be excessively hot. With boiling (see the next figure), the eggs are painted faster, but the patterns will not work when painting, they will need to be removed later. In any case, completely dried eggs after staining are rubbed between the palms with vegetable oil.

Note: it is undesirable to use isabella grape juice, boxwood berries, elderberry and bird cherry for dyeing eggs, they are not unconditionally useful products.

Patterns on Easter eggs do not have to be drawn, masterfully mastering the technique of miniature painting. It is possible to get by with a paper napkin, on which a pattern is applied in advance in a mirror image, see fig. on right. Use the above dyes in the maximum concentration. The pattern is applied to a slightly damp napkin so that it stretches and evenly sticks around the egg. At pos. 3 the egg is not boiled, the water should be just hot!

Note: along the way, we give another way to decorate natural and foam Easter eggs using a patterned paper napkin, writing paper and glue, see next. rice.

homemade eggs

Crafts for Easter in the form of eggs are made from a variety of materials. In high speed blanks for fishing floats made of foam; how to prepare them for painting, see above. Durable, not for one year, artificial Easter eggs are obtained from (plastic, cold porcelain). Colored plastic can be brewed at home in the kitchen; a serving is enough for 3-5 eggs, but the possibilities of this material are much wider: the properties of polymer clay make it possible to sculpt miniature relief compositions from it, see fig. Plastic perfectly accepts painting, varnishing, glue, it is easy to process, quite large products can be molded from it. All this together allows you to implement almost any idea of Easter, and not only Easter decor.

The next kind of imitations of Easter eggs is made of paper. Graceful and quite durable paper Easter eggs are obtained using the modular origami technique. It's not as complicated as some people think; see some samples in the videos:

Video: do-it-yourself paper Easter eggs

Or here's another option, an egg made of colored corrugated paper, made in the same technique as some varieties. In addition to the ease of manufacture, a clear example of the adaptability of life will fit both Easter and New Year.

Video: original paper egg for Easter

Sometimes you want to get an artificial Easter egg large in order to place a complex composition in it. In this case, without mastering the secrets of high skill, you can use a balloon as a template. It is inflated and smeared with Vaseline. Further, at home, 2 options are possible: plastic and thread. After hardening of the workpiece in both cases, the ball is blown off and pulled out.

In the case of plastic, the eggs are prepared in the same way as a lampshade: a fresh batch (300-400 g) is rolled into a thin layer and the desired pattern is cut out in it. A ball is wrapped in a layer, waiting for the mass to solidify. They encrust, if so conceived, already in a frozen mass, so as not to knock down the shape and not pierce the ball. There are also options for sticking the mandrel with sausages or strips of plastic: with not frozen, they work with it, like with plasticine.

If a large egg for an Easter composition is made of openwork threads, then a difference appears in comparison with a lampshade, because. the opening will be from the face. To make the window in the egg look neat, the ball-mandrel needs to be taken stronger, gel. On the inflated template, the contour of the opening is drawn in advance and hooks from paper clips framed with plastic are glued on it with adhesive tape; “Vaseline” the workpiece only after that. Hooks will help to get a neat opening, as on the left in the figure, and circle the entire egg in a more or less regular pattern. Well, and then everything, as with a lampshade: the winding on the mandrel is impregnated with PVA with a soft brush or watered, and when it dries, the ball is removed. Cheap paper clips framed with polyethylene, PVA do not stick to textiles either.

Chicken and Hen

An Easter chick can be made with your own hands from pompoms and quite small, like a real one, so that it fits in the shell of a real egg, as on the right in Fig. higher; cm.

We also give patterns for chicken and chicken, see next. rice. The hen is cut out of paper, and a cut foam egg blank is put on it, so the pattern needs to be scaled to fit the available material. The chicken can be both glued and sewn, stuffed with cotton wool or padding polyester, then it will be a long-term toy.

Tree

What a traditional Easter tree looks like is shown on the left in fig. The most desired basis is willow branches, which also goes back to the Sumerians: the abundant flowering of a moisture-loving tree in the arid Mesopotamia promised a good harvest. Theologians, linguists and literary critics have not yet figured out all the semantic layers of the biblical "... and hung their harps on the willows of Babylon."

But the deep meaning of Easter is much better expressed by the Easter garden of monotrees, in the center: fruits-eggs, as it were, grow out of the ancestral earth. A prerequisite for such a decision is the number of trees equal to the number of letters in the name of the holiday (“Easter” in English Easter) and thick juicy live grass.

The shoots for the foot of the trees of the Easter garden begin to grow 10-12 days before the holiday, mixing the seeds of wheat, oats, barley, watercress with dry, greasy soil. Take more seeds. Then the mixture is laid out in a bowl, watered abundantly and put the pots (bowls) on a sunny window in a warm room. Then it is watered every day, up to 3-4 times, so that the earth does not dry out at all. Also, several times a day, turn the dishes so that the grass grows evenly, and does not reach for the light in one direction.

If you give dill or parsley seeds to the sowing mixture and grow seedlings in eggshells, you can serve fresh greens in their original form for the Easter table, on the right in fig. And if the seeds of cereals are germinated in this way in a deep plate or bowl and watered not so plentifully so that the seedlings are stocky, you get an original desktop basket for Easter eggs with the same meaning as the Easter garden; Krashenki from it are offered to guests.

Basket

On a visit to Easter, you need, on the contrary, to go with a basket of edible eggs or Easter eggs. She, as mentioned above, needs a round one. The traditional type of Easter basket is a basket, pos. 1 in fig. Not necessarily braided; maybe glued from cardboard and decorated, for example, with quilling, pos. 2. Another option is a basket with sides made of bags, symbolizing abundance. Bags are now increasingly made in the form of rabbits / bunnies; how to sew a ribbon of bunny bags for the side of an Easter basket is shown in fig. right above. And for the smallest ones, a handbag from a disposable plate for one testicle will come in handy for the Easter trip. Nothing, adults will still understand that it is still round.

Let's think again about desktop baskets for Easter eggs. The most exquisite of these is considered to be a basket stylized as a bird's nest: there is a bird, although not a domestic chicken, and eggs, and a chicken (chick) is quite appropriate here. An example of an Easter composition with eggs in a nest and a bird, see the video below.

And a desktop Easter basket that looks like a nest can be woven from newspaper tubes, see next. rice.

coasters

On a beautiful round stand, it is not a shame to lay a lonely testicle: the meaning of life is not in gluttony. An elegant stand for an Easter egg is made from cutting a cardboard tube and corrugated paper in just 6 steps, not counting the flower, see fig. You can get by with colored paper, cotton pads and felt, see the bottom row in fig.

The stand at the bottom right is not round, but is made in the form of a chicken, which is quite consistent with the spirit of the holiday and its symbolism.

Rabbit, he is a hare

Children's crafts for Easter are generally better to do with a rabbit-bunny, especially since aesthetically it goes well with an egg; maybe that's where the Celtic belief comes from? A cutie like the one in the figure is clearer to the child's mind than the secret meaning of sacred patterns or eggs in ancient mythology, which is rooted in the depths of centuries. And the answer to the question to dad or mom: “Why is the bunny an egg?” it will be clearer, the basis before your eyes. Quite quickly, and, therefore, interestingly, an Easter bunny can be made right at the table from a napkin, see next. rice.

Looking at how easy the Easter Bunny turns out, I want to make the same, and better, myself. If yours is already older and has full control of his hands, look at the trail. rice. already a detailed master class on making an origami-style Easter paper bunny. It was invented by a wonderful master of this art, and Paolo the rabbit is now widely dispersed around the world.

Candles

So, we have already crept up to the light on the Easter table. Homemade (not for church services) egg-shaped Easter candles are on sale, but they are often made by hand by pouring melted paraffin or stearin into an empty shell and inserting a wick from a cotton yarn 1-2 mm thick, pos. 1 in fig. Here it is already possible to advise: carefully take away the top (nose) of a raw egg, having first filed it with a nail file or a needle file. The contents can be poured out without spilling the yolk.

The second method will give a candle "eternal", not sagging. More precisely, an oil lamp: we empty a raw egg through 2 holes, as described above. The lower one, in the arch of the egg (its more rounded top), is temporarily sealed on the outside with adhesive tape, and inside we drip superglue. When it hardens and the hole is tightened, remove the adhesive tape.

Now you need to insert the wick. This is done by gently pushing it into the upper hole with a needle. It remains to pour vegetable oil into the shell from a syringe (better - refined palm oil, absolutely does not smoke), put the lamp-egg in a glass and light it, pos. 2. But - be careful and be careful again! At the Easter table, so that everything is decorous, without frills and violence - an overturned oil lamp can lead to a fire!

Postcards

The Sumerians did not exchange postcards on their sowing holiday. They wrote on wet clay, which was the forerunner of the Babylonian-Assyrian cuneiform. Easter cards are also not used in church services, but what kind of holiday would it be without them?

The simplest Easter card can also be made with a child from an ordinary postcard-book by gluing an egg holder or a fake candle into it with an angle, see fig. on right. And how to make “real” cards for Easter with your own hands, see the video:
