Quilling tool: list, purpose and photo. Quilling for beginners adults and children: diagrams with descriptions, master classes with photos Paintings from quilling

Quilling - a bird's feather, translated from English. This technique originated in Europe at the end of the 15th century. At that time, by twisting paper with gilded edges with bird feathers, the monks made unusual medallions in this way.

Today we will learn how to do quilling, you will find diagrams and a description of the work below.

Below are just some patterns for quilling - flowers, an owl, a firebird, butterflies and fish:

Quilling for Beginners: Snowflake

The easiest way to start creating using the quilling technique is with a simple snowflake, so let's look at how to make it.

See the quilling master class for beginners below.

What is necessary

  • Office white paper;
  • office colored paper or plain colored paper;
  • Scissors;
  • Pencil;
  • Ruler;
  • Glue;
  • Toothpick.

Description of work

Cut or buy strips for quilling. Now we need to form the details. To do this, wind a strip of paper on a toothpick, turn it in the opposite direction a little and pull out the toothpick.

Let the roller unwind a little, then give it the shape of an eye, lightly squeeze it with your fingers.

In order for the part not to unwind, glue the edge of the strip.

It turns out such a detail as in the photo.

You need to make 12 such parts in blue and 6 white.

The next piece will be in the shape of a heart. It is necessary to fold the strip in half and twist it inward from both ends to the fold, let it unwind a little and glue it in the center.

You need to make 6 such white parts.

The next detail is the lamb. Also fold the strip in half, but wind the ends already outward.

Such details need 6 pieces of white color.

In total there should be:

6 details in the form of an eye in white and 12 in blue;

6 details in the form of a white heart;

6 details "lamb" of white color.

Snowflake assembly:

With a toothpick, very carefully, apply glue to the edge of the parts and attach them to each other.

Make this flower.

Lay out the second row of hearts like this:

In order to assemble the 3rd row, you need to glue the blue parts in the shape of an eye 2 together. Then attach them between the hearts.

The last row consists of lamb parts. Glue these details in the middle of each of the pairs in the shape of a blue eye. Glue the curls of neighboring lambs and that's it, the snowflake is ready.

To make it clearer, we attach video tutorials.

Quilling for Beginners: Flowers

It is also easy to make flowers in this technique. Below are the color schemes.

Flowers made according to these schemes can be used to create postcards, pictures and paintings.

For example:

These wonderful pictures can be made using flowers made using the quilling technique.

Valentine card in quilling technique

To make such an unusual valentine, you need strips of the size, color and quantity you need and glue.

First you need to wind a lot of spirals.

Then make elements of different shapes from spirals. Fold them into a heart shape.

With the help of the remaining elements, you need to fill in the heart, selecting elements that fit the shape.

Finally form the heart and glue all the elements together.

Volumetric heart for Valentine's Day is ready! It turns out that the quilling technique can be used not only to create paintings, even crafts can be made using this technique.

We make a butterfly using the quilling technique

First you need to glue the strips together to get 4 long multi-colored stripes. Choose the length and width according to the required size of the butterfly itself.

Now you need to make 4 rolls, 2 of which are slightly larger. Then, to make the butterfly look unusual, shift the center of each roll to one side and secure with glue.

Now you need to glue these 2 parts together. Glue a strip to the joint.

Here's what happened.

The butterfly is almost ready, it remains to make the antennae.

Bend the strip in half and glue 2 small rolls on the ends.

Using simple quilling patterns, even those who have never done this kind of crafts can master this technique.

Many different products can be made using the Quilling technique, from postcards to paintings and three-dimensional compositions. Sometimes the complexity and richness of the compositions create the impression that it is impossible to do this yourself. However, when you get acquainted with the basics of the Quilling Technique, all your fears about this will dissipate. This article "Quilling for Beginners" will show you in detail how to form certain forms. But these are the basics in creating unique works!

Quilling for beginners, step-by-step instructions and basic shapes and forms are offered below.

- Take a strip of paper with two fingers.

- The edge of the strip must be pulled off with two fingers of the second hand, while running a fingernail along it so that the tip is slightly bent.

- We bend the tip, so it will be easier to wind the paper around the awl. Make some tight curls.

- As soon as the diameter of the circle reaches 3-4 mm, you can already remove it from the awl and continue to twist it further than the size you need.

– Roll the roller with both hands and make sure that the paper strip does not unwind.

- This is how the whole folded strip looks like.

– Then we relax our fingers, and thereby allowing the strip to unravel slightly.

- Glue the edge of the paper strip with PVA glue

- If you compress the workpiece, in this way, you get a "drop".

- By compressing the workpiece in different ways, it is possible to give it various shapes.

- This is how the blanks “drop”, “petal” look like.

In addition to these figures, shown in the extensive article "quilling for beginners" how to make another row, there are also many important forms of twisting paper strips. And here is their list:

- Tight spiral. After twisting the tape, immediately glue the tip of the paper without removing it from the awl and thereby preventing it from unwinding.

- Free spiral. After twisting the tape, remove it from the awl, let it unwind, and then glue the edge.

- Curved drop. After you form a drop, slightly bend its corner in a direction that is convenient for you.

- Eye. Form a free spiral and squeeze the opposite edges, so that the shape of the eye is obtained.

- Semicircle. Form a free spiral, squeeze the opposite edges so that the upper side of the workpiece becomes even, and the other takes the form of a semicircle.

- Bird's paw. Form a loose spiral, compress the triangle, and then bend two corners towards the third, press harder.

- List. Form an "eye" shape and fold in the corners.

- Triangle. Form a loose spiral and then compress it so that it has three corners.

- Arrow. Form a triangle, and squeeze its two corners towards each other.

- Cone. Twist the paper strip so that a cone forms, glue the end with PVA and only after the glue dries, remove it from the awl.

- Crescent. Form a free spiral, squeeze the corners and then bend the workpiece

- Rhombus. Form an eye and squeeze its corners in such a way that a rhombus comes out.

So you got acquainted with all the basic forms and techniques used by the technique

Especially in the modern world, what has become valuable is what is done with soul, with fiction, the production of which was approached not formally, but selectively and creatively. An individual, piece work, in which the author's intention and his mood are read - only this stands out from the stream, pleases the eye and gives positive emotions.

Today, together with master Oksana Maslova, we will try to convey our mood through the art of paper rolling, paper-plasticity - quilling. Our master class "name letter" dedicated to mastering the basic quilling techniques and designed for those who are just beginning to explore the elegant world of "paper filigree".

What is quilling?

quilling This is the art of paper rolling. The word quilling is derived from the English word "quill" - a bird's feather. In ancient times (XIV-XV centuries), nuns twisted strips of gilded paper into spirals, putting them on the sharp tip of a bird's feather. Thus, lace compositions were created, a kind of mosaic for decorating icons. Over time, the art of quilling went beyond the walls of monasteries and acquired a secular character. Ladies from high society decorated caskets, family coats of arms with airy paper curls, framed mirrors and many other items, imitating filigree, forging, metal plate products. Now quilling has become a widely popular hobby and accessible to everyone, thanks to the simplicity of the technique, low cost and its beauty. This bright world of plastic and paper will interest not only adults, but also children, it will give them a wonderful opportunity for creativity and self-expression.

Master class "Nominal letter"

So, today our work in the quilling technique is called "Name letter". We will lay out the letter using the contour quilling technique, combining it with the basic elements - rolls. Thus, our goal is to get acquainted with the basics of quilling, to master the skills thanks to which we will be able to embody our creative ideas brightly and gracefully.

The main tools that we will use during our lesson:

  • Quilling fork (a tool for twisting paper strips). This tool is the main tool in the quilling technique. With its help, strips of paper are easily twisted into various elements, which are subsequently used to decorate our works.
  • Plastic ruler-template for quilling on a cork base. Indispensable for creating identical even elements, for collecting rolls with a shifted center, as well as for hasking (loop quilling). This is a separate branch in quilling. Pins are placed on the base and strips of paper are wrapped around them, forming loops. The element is more filigree, weightless and delicate. Looped quilling is usually used to make airy forms, for example, butterfly wings, birds, angels.
  • Cork mat. Convenient for collecting individual parts into a final element.
  • Tweezers with straight or angled nose. It will be convenient for collecting small details in the overall composition.
  • Scissors.
  • Headed pins (English) for securing elements and creating looped shapes. They also help to create a design with a displaced center (eccentric).
From the materials we will prepare:
  • Quilling paper - multi-colored strips, often packaged in kits, sold in crafting, handicraft, scrapbooking, or quilling specialty stores. As an alternative to purchased strips - double-sided colored paper, cut into strips 3, 5 or 7 mm wide.
  • Glue for paper (preferably PVA or a glue pen). The most important thing in glue is that it must be thick. In the process, it must be mixed so that it remains homogeneous and applied evenly. In our work on the name letter, it is very convenient to use a glue pen, thanks to the sharp tip of which the glue lays down in a neat thin line.
  • Colored or plain cardboard for the base, which is very important in contour quilling. You can always beat its color and texture, which will add its flavor to our work. You can choose an already tinted base or tint the desired areas according to the design of the composition. It is better to take cardboard with a slightly rough surface, not too smooth, which will ensure fast and strong adhesion, adhesion between surfaces.
  • Carbon paper (for transferring letters to the base).
Having prepared everything necessary for creativity, we select the letter that we would like to make. It can be the capital letter of your first or last name, or any other. For the contour of the letter, we select thick paper (120-160 g / m 2) with a width of 0.5 mm. The patterns inscribed in the canvas of the letter can be made from narrower (0.3 mm) and less dense stripes.

After we have decided on the letter (size, font), the color of the base and outline, we get to work.

Contour quilling - step by step instructions

  1. As accurately as possible, we draw the outline of the letter through the carbon paper onto the cardboard base. This must be done without blots, so that the work is neat and beautiful.
  2. Using a toothpick or a needle, apply glue to the end (edge) of the strip and connect the smeared edge with the outline of the letter drawn on the base. Here you need to briefly fix the strip to give the glue the opportunity to grab and dry a little. Thus, we gradually lay out the outline of our letter. This painstaking process can be facilitated by using a glue pen. Glue pen allows you to apply glue in a thin line straight to the base, and only then fix a strip of paper on it.
  3. When laying out the letter, we pay attention to the fact that all connections, joints between the stripes pass along its underside.
  4. In order to carefully lay out and glue all the corners and bends of the letter, we will use a cork quilling mat and pins with a hat. We put the mat under the base, prick the letters of the pins in the corners, stretch the strip along them and glue it.
  5. After the contour of our letter is glued and dried, we remove all the pins, remove the base from the cork backing and fill the contour of the letter with beautiful elements, harmoniously matched in colors.
In the quilling technique, there are several basic elements, each of which has its own name. Based on the "roll" element, the following are formed: a drop, an eye, a rhombus, a square, a triangle, a tulip (lily of the valley or a bell), an arrow, a crescent, a semicircle ... Other important elements in quilling are "scrolls". These include: "S-scroll", "V-scroll", "heart", "curl" and "twig".

In order for our composition to turn out neat and beautiful, we will take into account a few nuances:

  • We cut off a strip of paper, but do not cut it off. This makes its edge thinner and the middle of the roll is invisible.
  • We pay attention to the fact that there is no factory glue left on the end of the strip, with which all the strips in the set are connected to each other.
  • Remember that the tools differ in the size and texture of the handle, the width and length of the slot. We select a quilling fork under our hand so that it fits comfortably in our hand. This will help at work.
  • The cut in the tool must match the width of the strip and the weight of the paper. As a rule, these data are indicated on a set of quilling paper. So, if paper with a density of 160 g / m 2, then we take a plug with a wider connector. For paper with a density of 80 g / m 2, you need a fork with a narrow slot. The height of the fork connector must also match the width of the paper strip. For a strip 3-5 mm wide, we take a fork 5 mm high, for a strip 5-10 mm wide, a tool with a slot height of 1 cm is suitable.

To better understand the basic elements of quilling, consider the manufacture of some of them in more detail.

Making the basic elements of quilling

How to make a "tight roll"

We insert the edge of the strip into the slot of the tool and twist a tight roll, holding and controlling its evenness. We also carefully remove the roll so that it does not stretch out with a cone. Two or more colors of paper can be used. When one strip ends, we glue the other one so that the joint is no more than 2-4 mm and continue to twist. A tight roll, unlike a loose one, is not relaxed, but immediately glued using a brush, toothpick or needle to apply glue. To perform tight rolls, you can also use a special tool. It's called "tight roll tool".

On the basis of tight we make a "loose roll"

To create a roll of a certain diameter, it is convenient to use a template ruler. We insert the twisted tight roll into the template, where it unwinds to the required size, after which we fix the tip with glue. You can also glue the roll before giving it a certain shape. This master chooses himself.

Element "eye"

We twist a tight roll, dissolve it to the required size and crush it, squeeze it with the index and thumbs of both hands along the edges, on both sides and glue it.

"Rhombus"

We squeeze the loosened roll, as during the production of the "eye", tightly close the index and thumb of one hand with the index and thumb of the other to form a rhombus.

Very beautiful element of quilling - "drop"

We unroll the twisted roll either in the hand, holding it with our fingers, or, if we need a certain size, in a pattern with circles. After we squeeze the roll with our fingers on one side and get the shape of a droplet. We glue the "tail" of the strip and let it dry.

The following elements of quilling are made according to the same principle:

"Arrow"

We relax the roll, make a drop, glue it and press the lower part of the drop inward with our fingers, slightly sharpening the edges. Also, this element can be done with a pencil or pen.

"Triangle"

Press the slightly relaxed roll with two fingers of the right hand and press the third side with the finger of the left. Thus we get a triangle.

"Square"

Slightly squeeze the sides of the loose roll, as in the manufacture of a rhombus, but not too much, giving the shape of a square.

"Tulip"

Several of these elements can already make up a finished composition. We press one side of the twisted and slightly loosened roll inward with the back side (handle) of the quilling tool. Slightly sharpen the edges with your fingers and get a tulip. We glue the edge, and the element is ready.

"Semicircle"

It is made like a tulip. Only we form a twisted roll not with the handle of the tool, but with our fingers, and, at the same time, we do not press one side deep into, but leave it flat. It turns out a semicircle.

"Crescent"

It is made like a semicircle, but more curved.

These are the main rolls. Following the logic of their manufacture, you can fantasize, and there is no limit. You can form a cone, a spiral, a paw, an asterisk, a curved drop and many other elements, thanks to which you can decorate handmade postcards, caskets, gift wrappings. Easter eggs made using the quilling technique look very beautiful.

"S-scroll"

A strip of paper is twisted into a tight roll up to half and on the other side, also up to half, only in the opposite direction. So we get an element that looks like the letter "S". This scroll is not glued. It unfolds a little and retains the desired shape.

"V-scroll"

We bend the strip exactly in half and twist it tightly outward on each side to the fold. It turns out a scroll similar to the letter "V" or the antennae of a butterfly.

Scroll "heart"

It is done similarly to the V scroll, only we twist the strips of paper tightly not outward, but inward, to the inside of the corner. It turns out a heart. It can be laid out in a template mold and allowed to bloom to the desired size.

Scroll "curl"

The strip is twisted almost to the end into a tight roll and unfolds naturally. It turns out a curl on an even or slightly curved stem, similar to a comma.

Scroll "twig"

We bend the strip in a ratio of 1: 2. We twist the ends in one direction.

In addition to the basic elements, you can twist a lot of arbitrary ones. For example, a wave with even or growing "lambs". It twists from any fragment of the strip in any direction. You can leave it tightly twisted, or you can dissolve it a little. There are no hard and fast rules in quilling. There are basic elements thanks to which you can build something new and no less interesting. On the basis of rolls and scrolls, you can lay out various mosaics. And for more variety, so that the work looks voluminous and colorful, you can use different colors of paper in the manufacture of one element, carefully gluing the strips one by one and twisting them. Thus, the effect of a transition in halftones or a bright juicy contrast is created. Everything is like in nature. Natural and voluminous.

Also, simple basic elements can be used to make complex ones: flowers, leaves, patterns... If we fold a flower and want its petals to be the same size, we use a template. We lay out a tight roll in the desired size, let it unwind, form droplets-petals and glue it in the same template. If you need to make a lot of different elements, then it will be more convenient to first twist the required number of rolls, glue them and set the shape. After pinning with pins to the cork mat, laying out the composition, glue it together and let it dry. The pins will prevent the assembled elements (parts) from moving. It's comfortable.

How to make a voluminous leaflet without loop quilling

It is possible to make an airy voluminous leaflet without using loop quilling. A strip of paper is cut into fragments, about 10-15 cm each. The more there are, the more voluminous our leaf will turn out. We put these fragments on top of each other, glue everything from one edge to one point. Be sure to align the strips with each other so that they lie in a neat, even pile, and then shift them along the length, fixing with glue from the other edge. It turns out an airy voluminous leaflet with veins.

Roses in quilling technique

We insert the edge of the strip into the slot of the tool. We make several turns, forming a tight roll (hold the roll with your index finger so that it does not unwind). We turn the strip outward by one bend, twist it around the fork again. We continue to make a "fold-turn" until our bud or open rose is formed. We remove the finished flower from the fork and drip a drop of glue into the middle from the bottom side so that the glue is not noticeable. You can slightly glue the lower petals with glue to secure them. Our rose is ready.

The whole process of making roses using the quilling technique, see the following video story:

Quilling paper is very flexible. It springs well, keeps its shape and is easy to manipulate. Over time, with a certain skill, all the elements you have will be formed quickly and easily. It remains only to observe the basic principle of quilling: twisting-drawing-gluing and fantasize with pleasure! In fact, quilling is so easy and fun that once you start laying out certain or abstract patterns, you won't stop. This is a mood that you want to share with others. A sea of light and colors!

Products from twisted paper strips are called quilling or paper filigree. Even an older preschooler can master this art. Now on the Internet you can find a lot of schemes for creating flowers, landscapes, postcards, jewelry, paintings, topiaries, crafts, panels and other products using this technique. How to do quilling for beginners - we will consider in the article.

What do you need for paper rolling?

In a special store you can buy paper, scissors, paper filigree tools, tweezers, roll forms, PVA glue, an awl. Quilling paper in comparison with colored paper has 3 positive points:

  • the required density, keeping the shape of the parts;
  • ready-made strips from 1 mm to 3 cm;
  • high-quality painting even on the side cuts.

Special paper saves time, but craft strips can be made from two-tone office paper using a metal ruler and cutter.

The tool is a kind of awl with a tip in the form of a fork. It can be made from improvised material:

  • cut off the sharp end from the toothpick and cut in the middle, making a kind of fork;
  • by the analogy described above, make an incision in the stem of an ordinary pen;
  • stick the needle with the tip into a tree or cork, and file the eye.

Scissors take sharp with straight ends. A ruler with circles of different diameters can be used as a form for rolls. If you choose volumetric quilling, then you will need improvised material (beads, beads, wire, skewers, cardboard, frames, scallop, pin, etc.). We figured out the tools, now we will study the basics of paper rolling.

Quilling: master class of basic elements

Insert a strip into the slot of the tool and begin to twist it into a spiral, which is called a roll. It is from this element that we form certain forms under a certain pressure:

Quilling: diagrams of the main elements

Quilling elements:

  • The rectangle is an eye that shrinks in opposite directions and then the right angles are aligned. The square is made in the same way.
  • A rhombus is an eye whose corners are compressed in opposite directions.
  • A star is a rhombus whose sides bend inwards.
  • A semicircle is a free roll, in which the opposite ends are pinched, and then the space is straightened into a semicircle.
  • A crescent is a semicircle whose base curves inwards.
  • The sheet is an eye that is pressed against the corners, but volume is created in the middle.
  • A wave is a sheet whose sides are curved in different directions.
  • The turret is a triangle with a short base and long sides.
  • A cone is a tight roll with a glued end, which is then pressed through like a bag.
  • A spiral curl is a twisted strip.
  • The horns are a strip folded in half and twisted individually into a spiral.
  • A curl is an even strip, the ends of which are twisted into a spiral in different directions.

Unusual elements for flowers

In this case, too, there are secrets:

Create a Filigree Card

Now it becomes clear how to do quilling, that is, from the main elements you create different compositions for postcards and even paintings. As a basis, you can take a pattern of the finished work or a diagram from a magazine. But you can make your own. Just draw a butterfly schematically on the front side of the postcard and glue the elements on them.

For example, in the lower left corner of the card, draw a bouquet of daisies with curls and leaves. We make petals from a drop of white color, we make the core either shaggy yellow, or from a tight roll. Chamomile can be made whole (quilling is unique in a variety of ways). A master class for making a flower with petals and a middle is presented as follows:

  • take a white strip 1.5 cm wide and 30 cm long;
  • make cuts 1-2 mm wide along the entire length, leaving 3-5 mm on top;
  • stick a yellow strip 3-5 mm wide and 15 cm long on the reverse side;
  • insert the yellow strip into the tool and twist a tight roll;
  • glue the edge to the flower;
  • gently spread the petals with your fingers in different directions.

Postcard design

We continue to talk about how to make quilling and postcards in this style. Glue different daisies on the base. To change the size, just take strips of different widths. Now glue the stem to the flowers - a strip in a vertical position. And to it you attach leaves made using the technique of leaves, waves and arrows. Along the edge, you can decorate with curls, twigs and horns.

To make the postcard proportional, stick a butterfly in the opposite corner, in which the wings are made of an arrow and a drop, the body is made of an eye, and the antennae are made of horns. Volumetric postcards especially attract attention. This is also quilling. How to make voluminous flowers:

Another way to make bulk flowers:

  • cut out a circle from paper that will determine the size of the flower;
  • bend the circle into 4 parts (you get a funnel);
  • stick the petals on the concave side, leaving the middle;
  • also process the inside of the funnel;
  • now make a tight roll, to the edge of which you glue a strip with cuts;
  • straighten the core and glue it to the middle of the funnel from the concave side.

Paper Roll Style Tree

In this technique, it is interesting to make a tree. Quilling allows you to make it in a flat and voluminous form. In the first version, we glue a tree or trees on a piece of paper:

All that remains is to frame the tree. Quilling offers another craft option:

  • Make fluffy daisies.
  • You also make leaves, only take the tape longer to form fluffy balls.
  • Take a small pot or cup of yogurt and decorate it.
  • Insert the trunk into it, which is decorated with green paper. For these purposes, a wooden skewer or thick wire is suitable.
  • Glue paper blanks to the ball.
  • Pour gypsum mortar into the glass, install the barrel and let it harden.
  • Decorate the top of the pot with grass made of paper or satin ribbons.

If necessary, you can decorate the tree. Quilling allows you to make butterflies, spiders, birds that can be placed on the crown.

How to make voluminous flowers

In this technique, you can make ordinary flowers that can be put in a vase. Consider how to make gerberas:

Putting together a bouquet

We continue the conversation about how to make quilling and voluminous flowers using this technique.

  • Bend the funnel on the back a little.
  • From the green strip, make a tight roll with a diameter of 3 cm and form a cone out of it.
  • Make a stem out of a skewer by wrapping it with green paper.
  • Insert the stem into the cone and glue it to the wrong side of the funnel.
  • Now, from free rolls with a diameter of 2 cm, make a crescent.
  • From 7 crescents make a sheet in the form of a Christmas tree and glue them together.
  • Attach the petiole to the lower leaves in two additions and glue to the stem.
  • Make a spiral curl and decorate the junction.

Also, by analogy, make a whole bouquet. This is what makes quilling unique. With your own hands, according to this scheme, you can make different cornflowers, asters, in which the petals can be bent with scissors.

Paper rolling is an amazing art. Try to make simple elements and then move on to complex masterpieces - landscapes, paintings, portraits, voluminous crafts. This is an extraordinary style! Quilling can be taken as a basis in the manufacture of panels for photo frames, where curls, horns, branches are made of cardboard, which is then decorated to look like wood or metal. Try to make work in this technique, and you will not remain indifferent.

Do you want to find something for yourself that will not only allow you to relax and be distracted, but also enrich you with new emotions and give you aesthetic pleasure? Then pay attention to quilling. Even for beginners, description schemes will not become a stumbling block in creating elegant and incredibly beautiful paper crafts.

The art of creating miniature paper masterpieces

Quilling (from the English "bird feather" - quill) originated in Europe in the XIV-XV centuries in monasteries. Then the nuns came up with an original way to decorate pens for writing. They twisted thin strips of paper with gilded edges, thus creating the effect of an elegant precious jewelry. However, due to the fact that paper at that time was an expensive material, only noble persons could engage in paper rolling (namely, as quilling was called in Russia). Over time, this type of needlework reached the countries of the East, which enriched it with new techniques and created the Association of Paper Plastic Lovers.

Crafts using the quilling technique are made using elements twisted from thin paper strips, which are given a certain shape. There are several main types of twisting - the manufacture of so-called rolls:

  • “tight spiral” (we roll the strip into a roll, glue the end);
  • “drop” (we make a loose spiral, squeeze one end with two fingers);
  • “free spiral” (we do the same as a tight one, only before gluing the roll is slightly relaxed);
  • “a drop with a bend” (after a drop has been formed, one corner is slightly lowered);
  • “Arrow” (we form a free spiral, squeeze it with a triangle and bring the two edges together);
  • "semicircle" (we align one side of the free spiral);
  • "eye" (compress the two ends of the free spiral);
  • "rhombus" (we make a relaxed spiral and compress both corners);
  • “leaf” (we direct the corners of the “eye” in opposite directions);
  • “triangle” (we compress the relaxed spiral into three corners);
  • “crescent moon” (we stretch the relaxed spiral into a crescent shape);
  • “Pyramid-cone” (make a tight roll and pull out the inner edge);
  • "Bird's foot" (we make a triangle from a relaxed roll and squeeze two corners to the third);
  • "Star" (we make a clamp of 5 corners on a relaxed roll).

Twisting strips of paper is a very simple task, even for children. Quilling is based on a combination of such elements, allowing you to create whole pictures, as well as:

  • applications;
  • postcards;
  • decor elements;
  • accessories;
  • toys, etc.

In order for the crafts to be aesthetic, and the process itself to cause joy, you need to take care of the materials and tools. As for the first, everything is quite simple here: printer paper is cut into strips from 3 to 10 mm wide. But with accessories, things are more complicated. For twisting you will need:

  • a special machine (you can buy it at a needlework store or make it yourself by driving a thick tapestry needle with a bitten off piece of abalone into a wooden handle);
  • tweezers (it is convenient for them to pull or tuck tails);
  • sharp thin scissors with straight ends;
  • stationery scissors;
  • centimeter tape and ruler;
  • PVA glue;
  • toothpicks;
  • cardboard (as a basis for voluminous crafts);
  • stencil for blanks (panel with holes for finished elements);
  • fringe machine (sold in specialized stores).

Flowers made in paper rolling technique

For beginners, it is easiest to disassemble patterns describing quilling flowers from roses - this is how needlework masters recommend.

Instruction:

  1. We cut out a strip of paper 20 cm long and 10 mm wide.
  2. We insert the end of the strip into the eyelet and wrap it around the axis 3 times.
