Do-it-yourself envelope blanket for discharge in the summer. Envelope for discharge from maternity hospital: winter, summer for a newborn boy, girl. Made from fabric, knitted, overalls, blanket. How to sew it yourself

Regardless of what time of year the child was born, when picking him up from the maternity hospital, you must take with you a special soft bag in which the baby will be taken out of the hospital. For anyone who is not yet familiar with the topic of a child’s first wardrobe, it is necessary to explain what an envelope for a newborn is.

A large assortment of children's stores makes it easy to choose any item of clothing for your baby from the very moment of his birth. But often young couples are not ready to spend extra money or they do not have the time and opportunity to visit shopping centers.

Or maybe a loving grandmother wants to make a gift and sew an envelope with her own hands? It is for such cases that we offer you several simple ways to easily and inexpensively make a beautiful discharge kit.

In addition to saving money, handmade work has another significant advantage - you will receive exactly the product that fully meets your wishes, having chosen the fabric, decorations and design yourself. This means that your baby will get a truly unique “first clothes”.

Before you start working, you need to decide on the size, material for sewing and type of model.

  1. Size– corresponds to the baby’s age from birth to 9–10 months.

    The width of the envelope when unfolded should be 80–100 cm, and when folded – 40–50 cm.
    Length – from 79 to 100 cm.

  2. Material:

    For the summer option, you will need two types of fabric - cotton for the lining and a top layer of flannel, calico, jacquard or satin.
    A winter envelope should consist of three layers - lining, top layer and insulation.

  3. Types of envelopes:

    The bag is the classic and most common model, sewn from a rectangular piece of fabric.
    Overalls are an envelope with sleeves. In some models, the lower part is divided into two trouser legs using a zipper.
    Transformers - when unfolded, they form a regular diaper, blanket or blanket that can be used to cover the baby if necessary.

    The fasteners in the transformer are sewn in such a way as to adjust the size of the product depending on the height of the child.

Note! To sew children's clothing, you need to choose only natural materials. They have hypoallergenic properties, retain heat well, but at the same time allow the baby’s skin to “breathe” and protect it from diaper rash.

Envelope for the summer

Making a summer discharge envelope is not at all difficult. Even a woman who has no experience in sewing can cope with this task. Once you have decided on the material, bought ribbons and lace for decoration, you can begin the process.

Prepare tools and materials.

You will need:

  • Pattern of the model you like. You can order it at the studio, or you can make it yourself by downloading a suitable option from the Internet.
  • Graph paper.
  • Fabric scissors.
  • Threads in the color of the material.
  • Needles and tailor's pins.
  • Sewing machine.

First you need to make a full size paper envelope. Transfer the pattern to graph paper, pin it to the fabric and outline, not forgetting to allow for seam allowances. Carefully cut out all the parts. Sew both layers using a sewing machine.

Sew on ribbons and embellishments. The lace needs to be attached to the top of the fabric, where the child’s head will be located. Then this part can be folded into a triangle to protect the baby from the wind. The envelope is ready.

Note! It is important that all seams are well processed, located inside the product and do not come into contact with the delicate skin of the newborn, so we sew everything from the wrong side.

Envelope for the winter

To sew a high-quality winter envelope, you need to put in more effort, since this part of the wardrobe must reliably protect the fragile body from the vagaries of nature.

Some tips for choosing fabrics for sewing a winter bag:

  • For the top layer, you need to choose a waterproof and windproof material, for example, raincoat fabric. But, if you plan to wear your baby only in dry weather, you can use fur, plush, thick tweed or denim.
  • Natural materials such as sheepskin or synthetic ones - padding polyester or holofiber - are suitable as fillers.
  • The lining fabric is no different from the summer version. It should be natural hygroscopic fabrics - cotton, fleece or knitwear.

Let's start sewing. In order to carefully wrap up your baby during a walk, an ordinary transformable envelope is not enough. It is better to sew according to a pattern that includes making a hood.

For a schematic drawing of this detail, an A4 sheet will be enough. If you need to increase the area of the drawing, connect the paper with tape.

Transfer all the components of the pattern onto paper, and then onto all types of fabric. Cut, leaving a reserve of material for the seams (making allowances). Carefully sew all the details.

If you choose an envelope with sleeves, you need to sew a soft elastic band into the cuff to protect your baby from cold air. Sew on the hood and insert a cord with fixed ends along its contour.

This will make it easy to gather the fabric around your head if necessary. The winter envelope must be equipped with additional holding elements. These can be Velcro, buttons or zippers.

Note! Calculate the size of the outing envelope, taking into account the possibility of placing a child in it already wrapped in a blanket or dressed in a warm set of clothes.

Envelope decoration

It is traditional to sew clothes for newborns in two colors - blue for a boy and pink for a girl. If you want to prepare in advance and do not yet know the gender of your unborn child, you can make a set from fabric in neutral shades, and just before discharge, decorate the finished product with a matching ribbon.

Here are some more original ideas on how to decorate an envelope for a newborn.

There are many options for giving a children's set a festive look, and they all depend only on your abilities and imagination.

Note! Follow the rule - decorative elements of baby clothes should not contain any small details in the form of beads, small buttons, rhinestones or sequins.

A homemade envelope, like any handmade item, is an exclusive product that conveys the warmth and care of a mother’s hands. When starting to sew, be sure to remember that with all the attention to the appearance of the clothes, the main thing in the envelope is its safety.

Under no circumstances should there be a risk that the baby could slip out of the bag! To do this, carefully consider all the fastenings, treat the seams well and choose high-quality fabrics that will not fray during wear.

Position bands and laces to prevent accidental entrapment and suffocation of a child. Take your work seriously, and then the set you sew with your own hands will serve not just as clothing, but will be kept as a memory of the first days of your beloved child’s life.

Useful video

With the appearance of the coveted two lines on the test, the young mother immediately begins to think about a dowry for her baby, as well as about everything that he will need in the first days of his life. In addition to a beautiful outfit, you will also need an envelope for discharge, even in the summer.

The stores have a very large selection of envelopes, but their prices are not the lowest, and often very high. Any product for a baby can be sewn by the mother herself, spending a minimum of money on it, and she can invest all her love for the newborn. But not all mothers know how to sew an envelope for discharge with their own hands, which is what this article will be about and two master classes will be shown.

Before you start buying fabric and sewing, you need to decide what kind of envelope you need. There are several types of them, and each mother chooses for herself which one is more convenient for her.

Types of envelopes

Blanket envelope

A blanket envelope is a rectangle made of several layers of fabric and insulation depending on the season: winter, summer or autumn - spring. It looks like a classic one, but turns into an envelope using a special technique for swaddling the baby and an elastic bow or an ordinary satin ribbon for fixation. Enough easy to make, even a novice seamstress can cope with this task. The choice of material for such a blanket is mainly 100% cotton, especially on the side that will be adjacent to the child’s body. Plush and are also used.

The blanket can be both insulated and not, depends on the weather at the time of discharge. The insulation should be chosen hypoallergenic. The thickness of the insulation also depends on the time of year: for winter they choose the thickest one, for spring and autumn they choose thinner ones. In the summer, you can get by with two layers of fabric without insulation; such a baby blanket will later serve as an excellent blanket for a newborn.

Envelope with zipper

An envelope with a zipper will be a little more complicated, but it will be no less attractive and convenient. It can be just like a blanket with and without insulation, but in most cases these are still products are used in winter and autumn-spring periods. That is why the outer material is raincoat fabric or even fur. With their help, the newborn is not afraid of wind, rain or snow. A The presence of a zipper allows you to easily remove the child from it or just unfasten it and it will be freer for him.

These envelopes vaguely resemble children's winter overalls, only in a simplified version. By adding ties or elastic to the hood, you can achieve a more closed option for your child's head.

Such products are decorated in completely different ways., it all depends on the imagination of the expectant mother. Depending on the gender of the child, you can add appropriate decorations: either a bow, ruffles or lace, ribbons, rivets, rhinestones, embroidery, thermal transfers and much more. Below are master classes on how to sew an envelope for a newborn with your own hands, as well as patterns for a blanket envelope and a pattern for an envelope for a newborn with a hood.

DIY envelope-blanket master class

  • fabric on the outside 100x100 cm;
  • fabric on the inside 100x100 cm;
  • insulation (optional) 100x100 cm;
  • threads, needles, scissors, sewing machine and any decorations you wish (lace, elastic, rhinestones, sequins, etc.)

Before starting work, all fabric needs to be wet-heat treated (except for insulation), since the fabric shrinks. Iron the edges of the insulation 2 cm with an iron through wet gauze, this will make it easier to connect it to the fabric.

There is no special pattern for this blanket, as the details are simple. We cut out squares of 100x100 cm from the fabric, rounding the edges using improvised means, for example, a mug or plate. We pin the insulation to the top fabric with pins or sew it off with thread. Place the outer and inner fabrics face to face and secure the edges with pins. If lace is added, it must be pinned between the fabrics with the raised edge inward.

We sew it on a machine, retreating 1.5–1.7 cm from the edge, not forgetting to leave 10–15 cm open in order to turn the envelope inside out. We cut the rounding points with scissors at a frequency of 0.5 cm, this will give a beautiful rounding of the corners without creases. Turn the blanket inside out and sew up the remaining hole by hand using blind stitches. From the front side, stitch the blanket along the edge at a distance of 2 cm.

At the end, you will receive a ready-made baby blanket for discharge with your own hands with dimensions of 95x95 cm. You can also sew an elastic band to the blanket for fixation or use a regular satin ribbon. Decorate one edge with a patch or rhinestones of your choice. Sewing such an envelope blanket is a pleasure due to the ease of production.

DIY zip envelope master class

To make this product you will need the following materials:

  • raincoat fabric 50 cm (width 150 cm);
  • fabric on the inside (plush, cotton, velsoft) 50 cm (width 150 cm);
  • insulation 50 cm (with a width of 150 cm);
  • zipper 2 pcs. 50 cm long;
  • adhesive tape or buttons 2 pcs.;
  • pattern;
  • threads, needles, scissors, sewing machine and any decorations you wish (buttons, lace, elastic, rhinestones, sequins, etc.)

From all layers we cut out the same parts according to the pattern: a rectangle measuring 50x120 cm, after 60 cm we remove 5 cm from the sides, so that the second half of the rectangle is 40 cm wide. Iron the edges of the insulation 2 cm with an iron through wet gauze, this will make it easier connect it to the fabric. The thickness of the insulation depends on the time of year; for the winter period it is worth choosing the thickest one.

Attach the raincoat fabric and insulation and sew it on a machine; this will make it easier to sew on the zippers. Place zippers between the outer and inner layers of the envelope, folding the edges of the fabric inward. Place the zippers so that their end is at the narrowing point of the fabric. Sew the remaining fabric along the sides, folding the edges of the fabric inward without going too far from the edge. Sew the top edge of the rectangle, fold it into an envelope and, if desired, you can sew buttons or a small zipper, or simply sew the edges of the fabric, first the top, then the bottom.

The winter zippered envelope is almost ready and only the decorative part remains. By bending the bottom edge of the envelope, you can secure it with Velcro or snaps, and also place any decorative element on it, for example, a butterfly bow for a boy or a flower for a girl. You can also embroider the child’s name on the lapel or any other part of the envelope, sew on any patch or rhinestones.

Transfer the thermal transfer, in this case it is better to do this before starting work, calculating the exact location on the fabric. Another useful detail is the drawstring on the hood; it will allow you to tightly cover the newborn’s head and face from the wind. Sewing such a product is much more difficult than the previous one, but no less exciting, especially when changing the pattern of the product.

By carefully following these simple steps of the master class when sewing envelopes, and applying a little imagination, in the end you will receive a comfortable, beautiful envelope for your statement with your own hands and spend a minimum of money. Patterns can be changed at your discretion, depending on the size of the baby or the manufacture of decorative parts.

Do you want to sew a beautiful and comfortable envelope for a newborn? You can use the ideas from the article.

The envelope is essentially the first clothing of a newborn baby. In it, the baby is taken from the maternity hospital and taken for its first walks. By wrapping the body like a cocoon, the envelope creates coziness similar to that of the baby when he was still in his mother’s tummy.

Despite the fact that there are ready-made envelopes for newborns on sale, more and more mothers are deciding to sew this product with their own hands, and they have reasons for this. Thanks to patterns and step-by-step master classes, even a woman who has never sewed before will be able to create a discharge, summer and winter envelope.

How to sew an envelope for discharge with your own hands? What should be the dimensions of the discharge envelope?

In order to properly sew an envelope for a baby who has just been born, you need to know what requirements are put forward for things for newborns. They are:

  1. Only natural hypoallergenic materials are suitable for sewing envelopes, and they should not emit toxic substances
  2. Materials must be appropriate for the season. If the discharge takes place in the summer, silk and lace will, of course, be suitable. But for the cold season, it is worth choosing fabrics that can protect the baby from unfavorable environmental conditions, such as cold, wind, precipitation, etc.
  3. The envelope must be the appropriate size. The baby should feel comfortable in it, but not cramped.
  4. The seams of the envelope must be carefully processed
  5. Ribbons, ribbons, fringe, and other decorative elements should not create discomfort or risk of suffocation for the child.
  6. If the envelope is intended for writing out, it needs to be elegant

Among the finished products it is difficult to find one that would meet all these requirements. In addition, ready-made envelopes are quite expensive, but they will be needed for at least one day (only for checkout), for a maximum of six months (that’s how long a summer or winter envelope is used).

Therefore, many expectant mothers consider sewing an envelope with their own hands as the best option.
While working, expectant mothers, especially if they are inexperienced in sewing, may have some questions. For example:

  1. What should the envelope size be? Everything is simple here - the product is intended for a baby from birth to 9-12 months. The size of the finished product is usually from 75 to 100 cm in length, 85–100 cm in width when unfolded, 45–50 cm when folded.
  2. What type of envelope should I choose? There are really a lot of them: envelopes for summer, winter or universal; envelopes - bags with and without sleeves, envelopes with a hard back, transformers that turn into a blanket or overalls, others. Experienced mothers believe that transformable models are the most convenient, since in a clinic, for example, they can easily be turned into a blanket or mattress, and then back again
  3. Where can I get a good pattern? If a woman has the makings of a seamstress, she can make it herself. Another option is to order a pattern from a tailor, but you will have to pay for it. Most people go the simplest route - download the sewing pattern on the Internet.

IMPORTANT: You can find more than original patterns for envelopes on the Internet. But if the expectant mother has never sewed before, she is unlikely to be able to cope with them. Beginners should choose something simpler

This is exactly what will be discussed in our article. We'll tell you in detail about patterns for winter envelopes and how to do it correctly.

Before sewing a baby envelope, you need to find out the requirements for your baby’s clothing:

It is not always possible to find envelopes in stores that meet all these requirements. In addition, envelopes are expensive, considering that they will be needed for one day for discharge, or for six months, that’s the maximum.

Therefore, many mothers prefer to sew an envelope with their own hands. But, if a woman has never done such things before, then it will be difficult for her. That is why some questions may arise during the work process:

  • The second question is what type of envelope to choose. There are many types of products: summer, winter, universal, bag envelopes, transformers and a blanket. Some mothers believe that a transforming envelope is the ideal option, as they can easily turn into a blanket or mattress.
  • The third question is where to get the pattern. If you have experience, you can make the pattern yourself. You can also order a pattern from the studio. Of course, you will have to pay for it. The finished pattern can be downloaded for free on the Internet.

It’s worth noting: you can find different patterns for envelopes on the Internet, but if you haven’t done sewing before, it’s better to choose a simpler option.

Summer discharge kits for boys and girls

During the winter months, a warm blanket will protect your little body from the cold wind and keep you warm. In summer it should not be tight so that the baby does not sweat. At high temperatures, its role is to protect against winds, insects and dust. And the decor of the blanket will look beautiful in photographs, especially if it consists of lace.

Therefore, the choice of envelope for discharge must be approached with special care. And it’s best to sew it yourself.

Beautiful double-sided homemade blanket for the warm season

Sewing a baby blanket for discharge with your own hands is not as difficult as it might seem.

The main advantages of sewing yourself are:

  • finding fabrics that are suitable in composition;
  • independent choice of colors and patterns;
  • the ability to adjust the size depending on the height and weight of the baby;
  • sewing on details that create a unique appearance of the finished product. For example, lace.

Types of materials and fillers

Sewing yourself does not require unusual fabrics or tools. The main thing is that the product contains as many natural materials as possible, especially in those places where the fabric comes into contact with the newborn’s skin.

It is worth paying attention to decorative elements. There should not be too many of them, they should not be sharp and dangerous for the child. In the worst case scenario, the baby gets hurt.

The general list of materials for sewing an envelope for a newborn consists of the following items.

  1. Two types of fabric that will be located on the inside and outside.

As mentioned earlier, in places where the fabric comes into contact with children's skin, the fabric should be natural to prevent allergies. The most suitable type is cotton fabric. Despite the ability to wrinkle, it is recognized as the most hypoallergenic material. The outer surface can be made of satin or silk, depending on the desired appearance. It is not forbidden to create two sides of an envelope from the same fabric. In this case, satin, cotton and poplin are perfect.

  1. Sewing elastic, as well as satin ribbons for decoration, sewn on the outside of the envelope.
  2. Lace and frills.

If lace was chosen as decoration, then it is better to use organza lace of several types: narrow (less than 80 cm) and wide (more than 1 m).

  1. Pins and needles for fixing tissues.
  2. Scissors.
  3. Measuring tape.
  4. Sewing machine.
  5. Sintepon as a filler.

Cutting and step-by-step instructions for sewing with your own hands

Cutting the pattern and sewing does not take much time. The main thing is to have good tools and prepare materials in advance so as not to waste time looking for missing parts.

Step-by-step production of a blanket envelope for the discharge of a newborn

Sewing a bow to decorate the discharge envelope

Calculation of the quantity of materials

Each newborn has its own individual height and weight. Most often, the height does not exceed 55 cm, and the weight is 3,500 kg. Based on these parameters, you can create an approximate representation of the child in the discharge envelope.

Most likely, the process of sewing a blanket will take place before the birth, so it will not be possible to accurately guess the size of the child. You will have to resort to generally accepted sizes. Most often, a do-it-yourself blanket for discharge has the following parameters:

  • sides 140×110;
  • sides 120×80;
  • sides 1з5×110;
  • sides 140x110.

Of course, before sewing, it is important to determine up to what age the blanket will be used.

It is worth noting that the child will not always have to be wrapped in it. At an older age, about 1.5-2 years, such a blanket can be used to cover a child, or to cover his legs when sledding. In this case, you should not sew on lace decorations - they will tear. This is why it is so important to consider the identity and use of the discharge blanket.

The season in which the blanket will be used is also important. In cold seasons, a larger size blanket is used - 140x110. In the summer months, you can use smaller specimens - 100x80.

If you decide to sew a blanket “in reserve,” then you should not sew it too large. The baby should not drown in the fabric. This is both inconvenient and uncomfortable not only for the child, but also for the parents, who will have to hold the little bag.

With ties or zipper

The third main question that parents have is: which blanket to choose? With a zipper or ties? The time of year also plays a role here.

The zipper completely covers the baby's body, preventing wind from passing through the edges. However, if handled carelessly, the parts can damage the baby's delicate skin.

Ties are more suitable for the summer season, when the warm breeze is not dangerous for colds. The ties will not harm the baby, but it is important to ensure that children's fingers do not get caught between the parts of the knots.

Summer and winter options

Summer and winter versions of the models differ, first of all, in the type of fabric. In summer, it is preferable to use cotton, silk, and satin. There is no need to insert a padding pad between the layers of fabric, so as not to cause excessive sweating in the baby. The edges of the product are sewn on 4 sides at once.

In winter, the envelope needs to be properly insulated. Not only is a layer of padding polyester or cotton wool good, but also the option of sewing with fleece fabric (additional insulation) on the inside of the envelope. In this case, you should consider the warmth of the envelope when dressing your baby. Otherwise, the child may overheat and then catch a cold or start whining because he is too hot. Winter versions are stitched with a finer seam.

Zippers and ties

Models with zippers do not let air through, but tightly connect the fabric, thereby retaining heat.

In summer it is more effective to use ties. They will allow the envelope to be blown and ventilated, preventing the baby’s skin from becoming hot. It is worth noting that in this case the parts should be sewn tightly to the fabric so that they do not tear at the most necessary moment.

Nowadays, a transformable blanket is gaining popularity, which can serve as a discharge envelope and protect the child’s body from the winds. Despite the complex name, sewing these models does not require large financial or time expenditures. The main thing is to strictly follow the technology and sew the product in stages.

To sew a transformable blanket you will need the following parts:

Let's prepare materials for sewing a transformable blanket

  • Fabrics for outside and inside. Size - 1.1 m.
  • Synthetic fabric. If the blanket model is sewn for the winter, then it is allowed to make several layers of padding polyester.
  • Sewing elastic band.
  • Zipper or ribbon ties on both sides.
  • Bias tape. Size - 60 cm.

Step by step sewing

  1. From fabrics for the inner and outer sides, as well as from padding polyester, you need to cut a fabric measuring 90 by 85 cm in the form of a trapezoid.

    Cut out the prepared fabric, not forgetting to leave seam allowances

  2. Sew the cut out square pieces on three sides, leaving one side free. A padding polyester will be inserted into it.
  3. Cut a rectangle of fabric measuring 45 by 65 cm, sew the pieces on three sides, and then sew an elastic band along the edge.
