Decoupage: creative ideas for your home. Simple decoupage from a napkin for beginners. Step by step with photo

Of course, with an irresistible desire to make a beautiful thing with your own hands and a flight of fancy. The most important thing is the idea!
But at the same time there is an algorithm of actions, that is, a sequence of what follows what. In addition, whatever one may say, materials are needed, and in some cases tools.
But do you have a desire, and are you ready to try at least simple manipulations using the decoupage technique? Well then, let's start.

Decoupage involves the imitation of painting and is suitable for those who do not know how to draw.

Why imitation? Because with the help of this decor technique, a picture from a napkin, decoupage card, rice paper or a printout is pasted onto the surface. And it creates the impression of a drawn plot or collage on the surface of a vase or flower pot.

At the same time, the picture that is glued to the object can be either torn out by hand or cut with scissors. It depends on what subsequent steps will be applied in general in the work.

What materials are needed for decoupage

Let's start with surfaces. It can be a wooden board, a glass plate, a jar or a vase. As well as fabric, leather, clay, porcelain and plastic surfaces. We can say that there is no such surface on which it would be impossible to perform decoupage.

Napkins. As a rule, these are ordinary multi-layered paper napkins for table setting from a supermarket. Such "beauty", especially with flowers, can be bought in packs. Doilies with an unusual pattern or themed are sold in needlework stores, and you can buy them individually. Especially if a certain product is conceived, for example, a key holder.

Scissors. If there is a need for them, small ones will do. Or you can take nail scissors to cut out small details.

Degreasers. It can be both alcohol and acetone (although they are not very safe to breathe). Nail polish remover is less toxic, especially since women will always find it.

Glue. Very convenient special glue for decoupage. You can buy it at a specialized craft store. But it's okay if you first use PVA building glue. PVA glue is diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 1. This is the case if you are working with a wooden surface. If the surface is glass, ceramic or metal, it is desirable that the glue is not very liquid.

brushes. There are many types of brushes. It is important that there are several, different numbers (thickness). Since in the process of work, in addition to sticking a napkin, brushes are also necessary for priming the surface, for painting, and also for varnishing the finished work. These should be flat brushes with synthetic bristles.

Paints. In decoupage, very often there is a need, if not to draw, then at least paint on the background or some small details. To do this, all decoupage artists use artistic acrylic paints from various companies, since the choice is now large. It can be both sets and individual paints.

Lucky. Acrylic lacquer is also used for decoupage. Eat different types varnishes. Regardless of the manufacturer, in decoupage, glossy (if the intended work should be glossy) and matte varnishes are used to protect the surface.
You can also use building varnishes, but the main thing is that they be water-based.

Decoupage sequence

All work can be conditionally divided into several stages.

Surface preparation.

1. Metal, ceramic and glass surfaces degrease alcohol (building white spirit is also suitable) or acetone (photo 1).

2. But there is another way to prepare the surface. Sanding surfaces with sandpaper. Sometimes a metal surface is sanded (photo 2), but more often it is applicable to wooden surfaces (photo 3). Thus, we get rid of roughness on wood or plywood.

3. The same for all surfaces - primer. It is carried out with a special primer or white acrylic paint to obtain a flat, smooth surface before decoupage (photo 4).

decoupage process.

1. Drawing preparation. The necessary fragment breaks out or cut out of the napkin. Then the napkin is stratified, separating the top layer from the bottom layers. For decoupage, only a layer with a pattern is taken (photo 5).

2. Bonding. The fragment is superimposed on the surface of the decoupage object and PVA or special glue is applied, smearing the napkin on top (photo 6). At this stage, it is important to dry the work done, since not all surfaces absorb moisture well. And if this is not done, then you can spoil the work in the following steps.

The final stage.

1. After decoupage, if required, paint on details or background (photo 7, 8).

2. Is fixed Job varnish. Lacquer is applied several times. The more layers, the smoother and stronger the surface. It is also important to dry the varnish well.

Here we very briefly told you about decoupage and listed the main sequence when performing direct decoupage. In addition, there are many ways and techniques used in decoupage. And each has its own characteristics.

Works made with (photo 10) are popular with craftswomen.

Decoupage works great on metal surfaces, for example (photo 11).

Decoupage is an endless creative process. With each work, more and more new ideas appear. And remember, whatever you do will be right. There is no concept of "wrong" in creativity.

Christmas vase
Master class: "Christmas vase" using decoupage technique.

Our today's master class is exclusively for beginners. I will tell you where to start so that your efforts are not wasted. After all, as it often happens, there seems to be a desire, and there are enough useful materials with textbooks, and the “first pancake” is able to beat off all the best undertakings at once.

And if you are still in thought and do not know which type of needlework to choose, then my arguments, I am sure, will help you decide.

To begin with, decoupage (or napkin technique) is the simplest, inexpensive, decorating technique available to everyone, suitable for absolutely any surface. You can decorate everything with decoupage - from a hot stand to a grandmother's chiffonier. After such a transformation, the thing looks not only very beautiful (as if hand-painted), but unique in every sense. Soon you will see for yourself!

The first thing you should know when starting the decoupage technique is the properties of materials. What they are, why they are suitable or not suitable for you for certain purposes. This simple knowledge, although simple at first glance, has many nuances that a beginner should be aware of.

Acrylic paint is the most important. This is where the main work begins. You can use acrylic purchased from specialty stores or regular water-based interior building paint. By the way, in the future you will see that construction paint is ideal for one-step crackle in decoupage. But be careful - building paint should not be dispersion, otherwise it will not go well.

Glue in decoupage is used special (for decoupage) and ordinary PVA (diluted with water by 1/3). Both of them have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Specialized glue is ideal for work because of its consistency, but it costs several times more than PVA (the disadvantage of PVA is that it fits worse).

Varnish. Decoupage uses a special decoupage varnish and water-based construction acrylic varnish.

Due to its consistency, decoupage varnish is ideal for coating decoupage surfaces.

Building varnish is also well suited for these purposes. In addition, it is sold at any hardware store. But you need to keep in mind that when using building varnish, decoupage involves more thorough varnishing than when using a specialized varnish.

Decoupage glue varnish (2-in-1) is suitable if you just want to understand what decoupage is. This glue is easy to handle, because (you guessed it) performs two functions at the same time.

Additional materials:

Putty. You can buy it at any hardware store. Perfect for correcting defects on wooden products and creating voluminous decoupage. Which is very convenient, since this inexpensive method eliminates the need for craftsmen to purchase expensive 3-D gels to create volumes.

Structural paste also perfectly copes with various defects in products and creates volume.

Color. In this capacity, you can use ordinary artistic gouache by adding it to acrylic paint. Gouache produced by “Nevskaya Palitra” has proven itself well in work, retaining its properties for a long time.

In “Nevskaya Palitra” you can also buy Perlamex and Metalex acrylic mother-of-pearl paints with glitter, wonderful metallic colors to give the product gilding, silvering and other effects.

Of course, it makes no sense for a beginner to purchase a large number of paints, colors, etc. at once. This is expensive and impractical. But a couple of shades of light gold, dark gold, you should always have on hand. I strongly advise against buying Decola paints because of their short shelf life.

An alternative to a specialized decoupage color scheme is its analogue, which is sold in ordinary hardware stores. It is indispensable when painting large areas - such as, for example, a closet, chest of drawers. The colors of burnt umber and autumn foliage are well suited for such work. The cost of building colors is low (two times cheaper than acrylic paints), and the efficiency is not lower.

Brushes and sponges. Medium sized flat synthetic brush. Indispensable for the final application of varnish.

Sponges can be used instead of brushes when applying acrylic paints to the surface of the product.

Rollers are very convenient when smoothing a decoupage card or napkin.

Spatula for working with putty.

Sandpaper perfectly copes with roughness when working with wooden products and in the case when it is necessary to remove the ends of the napkin protruding beyond the edge of the product. I advise you to purchase the most common types of sandpaper - No. 240 and No. 280.

Separately, I will dwell on the decor for decoupage. It includes:

Special napkins for decoupage
Napkins for table setting (three-layer)
Rice paper
Printouts made on a laser printer

Each of the options has its advantages, but I advise beginner decoupagers to start with napkins (regular or for decoupage). They are simpler and easier to handle.

Today we will take the first steps into the endless world of decoupage possibilities. And let's start with the simplest product.

Hot stand:

We will need:

Hot stand
Napkins for decoupage
White acrylic paint
glue varnish

1. We pre-sand the workpiece with sandpaper.
2. We cover with the first layer of acrylic paint.

3. Dry well with a hair dryer at a distance of 20-30 cm or leave until completely dry.
4. Sand again.

5. Apply the second layer of acrylic paint (don't forget to paint over the side of our stand!)
6. Cut out the napkin in the form of a stand.
7. Remove two protective layers.
8. For gluing, we use a stationery file. To do this, put a napkin in the middle of the file, fill it completely with water and smooth the bubbles with a brush - from the center to the edges.

9. Wipe excess moisture with a napkin.

10. We apply the file with a damp cloth to the base and carefully remove it.

11. Apply glue or glue varnish to a damp cloth.

12. Dry with a hair dryer or leave to dry completely.
13. Remove the rest of the napkin that extends beyond the edges of the stand with sandpaper (“zero” or “two”).

14. We apply another layer of glue varnish, which will allow us to fix the napkin for use under hot.
15. We do the same on the other side.
16. At the end of the work, if desired, the edges of our stand can be aged using the aging effect.

Useful tips when working: decoupage without folds

Not having much experience in decoupage yet, you may encounter the fact that the napkin puffs up and gathers in folds when glued. Now I will show you several ways to avoid this.

Method A: (only suitable for small areas of the napkin)

1. If our napkin consists of three layers (which is most often), remove the two lower layers, leaving only the top, colorful one.

2. With our hands (not scissors!) we tear off the desired fragment of the napkin - in this case, it organically merges with the main background of the product, which creates the illusion of a pattern.

3. We cover a fragment of a napkin with glue, moving from the center in a circle. The resulting small wrinkles can be smoothed out by slightly lifting the napkin and then smoothing it out. You need to act very carefully, because a wet wipe is very fragile.

4. Excess tissue that extends beyond the edge of the product can be removed with sandpaper. But only after the napkin dries well!

Method B:

1. Separate the colored layer of the napkin.

2. Apply it to the product.

3. Put a dot in the center of the napkin with a brush dipped in water.

4. Gently lifting the napkin, we continue to soak the motif with water in a circle, starting from the center. Here you need to be very careful not to accidentally damage the napkin at some point.

5. If, when wet, the edges of our napkin went beyond the edge of the product, then they can be removed by hand while it is still wet. We will grind small details later with sandpaper when the napkin dries.

6. We fix the still damp napkin with glue, while barely touching its surface with a brush.

7. Leave until completely dry.

Decoupage is a fascinating and uncomplicated activity that has many techniques and is accessible even to the youngest craftswomen. With it, you can make exclusive interior items that will decorate not only your home, but also the exhibition halls of art galleries. In this review, we will look at how to perform do it yourselfdecoupage for beginners step by step with photo. Do not worry that something will not work out, in fact, everything is very simple. With the help of this technique, old furniture, dishes, shoes and many other things will find new life in your home.

Decoupage products - works of art

First of all, let's deal with the definitions. Decoupage is gluing a pattern onto a surface. The picture can be placed on wood, leather, fabric, glass and almost any other product.

Reverse decoupage is the same process, which has only one feature - the picture is glued under the material. This can only be done on transparent surfaces: glass and plastic. Of course, the picture in this case is pasted face up.

For your information! If a plate is used for direct decoupage, then in the future it will only perform a decorative function. And when using the reverse technique, the dishes can be used in normal mode.

Tools and materials for work

Materials and tools Note

Using this technique, you can decorate a book, dishes, flower pots, bottles, furniture,. In general, literally everything that is in your house.

Pictures can be used from special decoupage cards, napkins. In addition, for this purpose, craftswomen use drawings on fabric, old newspapers, and magazine clippings.

You can use ordinary nail scissors or a special tool that is sold in needlework stores. The main thing is that the edges of the blades are very sharp. This is the only way to carefully cut out the desired image on a thin napkin.

You will need flat soft brushes. The pile in them should be tightly fixed. A “lost” lint can be a serious problem. It is better to have several brushes of different widths for smoothing and applying glue and varnish.

It is best to use ordinary household PVA. You can buy a specialized composition, but it will cost more. From varnishes it is better to give preference to acrylic. It does not emit toxic substances and is easy to use.

To decorate the work, acrylic-based paints, sponges, primer, sandpaper, craquelure can be useful.

Basic tricks

You can fix the drawing on the surface in different ways, let's look at them:

Method one

A simple technique for decoupage from napkins is to lay it on an object and fix it with glue. After drying, the surface is varnished.

Method two

For reverse decoupage, a transparent base is used. The image is glued face down to the glass. After drying, fix with varnish.

Method three

Artistic composition. For its manufacture, many images are used, which, when glued, are combined into one. To make the picture look like one whole, painting, shadows and accents are added.

Method four

This technique is called "decopatch". For her, they use pictures from magazines, drawings on fabric. To get rid of clear boundaries, the edges of paper drawings are cut off. The surface is completely filled with images.

Method five

Creating a three-dimensional image. This is a technique that requires the talent of an artist. First, an image from a paper napkin is pasted. And then a painting is done on it with a careful drawing of all the smallest details.

Decoupage bottles for beginners: step by step with photos and recommendations

- the simplest and most affordable material from which you can make an original gift. You can buy a bottle of wine or fill the container with your own drink. Luxurious decoration in any case will impress.

We have already listed the materials and tools necessary for the work, so we will not dwell on this in detail. The only thing that needs to be added to the list is a windshield wiper. They pre-treat the bottle cleared of labels.

Important! It is better to work with a glass vessel with gloves. Your fingerprints are unlikely to have artistic value, so it's best not to leave them.

The sequence of bottle decoupage for beginners, step by step with a photo:

We apply soil For priming, you can use acrylic varnish or PVA. The soil should dry well.
Making the background As a background, you need to take white or light acrylic paint. It may be necessary to apply the composition in two or even three layers in order for the surface to become completely opaque.
Applying images The pattern on the napkin is carefully cut out with scissors. If the background of the picture and the bottle match, do without scissors, carefully tear off the napkin. To make the drawing on the printout easier to apply, it should be soaked in a plate of water.
Fixing the drawing
Lacquer must be applied to the surface of the drawing. This can be done with a soft flat brush or spray gun. Care should be taken that the picture is not covered with folds. It must be gently smoothed with a brush if necessary.
Finishing After complete drying, you can gently sand minor flaws in the work. To emphasize the details, use a brush and dark paint. After finishing, apply a final coat of varnish.

Some decoupage tricks on glass for beginners: step-by-step recommendations with a photo of drawing a pattern from napkins

The first experience of gluing a napkin can be unsuccessful: wrinkles and folds inevitably appear, which spoil the whole result. A few tips on how to avoid this:

  • To apply a pattern on a convex surface, you can make “tucks” on it. Cut the edges of the pattern with scissors or even cut out triangular pieces. With the last option, it is better to be careful, there is a risk of spoiling the image if the cut angle is incorrectly calculated.

  • You can apply glue to the surface, and then attach the drawing and straighten it with a brush. Another method would be no worse - apply glue on top of the picture, while straightening it.
  • If the image is applied to an almost flat surface, you can pour glue into the center, attach a napkin and gently disperse the composition, spreading the material over the surface.
  • On a perfectly flat sheet, you can stick an image with an adhesive pencil.
  • You can apply a picture with a piece of polyethylene (bag or stationery file). The drawing is placed face down on polyethylene and moistened with water. Then the package with a wet napkin is applied to the pasted surface. The package is removed, the napkin remains.

A simple master class for decoupage shoe boxes

The flat surfaces of a cardboard shoe box are an excellent base for decorating. Such an interior box will become a favorite place for household trifles.

Surface preparation

The corners of the box must be reinforced with pieces of masking tape, then primed with an acrylic primer or paint. After drying, the primer should be lightly treated with fine sandpaper. It may be necessary to repeat the procedure if the layer does not lie flat enough. After you need to paint the box with the color chosen for the background.

The place for the drawing is covered with decoupage glue. After the layer has completely dried, a pattern is applied on top and smoothed out with a hot iron through a sheet of paper. After the napkin is covered with a thin layer of varnish. Too thick a layer will cause the pattern to blister. This procedure is repeated over the entire surface of the box.
Decoration and refinement

With a foam sponge, background paint and other shades are applied to match the image. Small details are drawn with a brush. To add some casualness, you can splatter white paint on top with the bristles of a toothbrush. Then the final varnish is applied.

Helpful advice! If you need to apply a pattern on a polished surface, polishing is pre-treated with sandpaper until the shine disappears.

When decoupling furniture with a cloth, the process practically does not differ from that described.

The article allows the reader to get acquainted with such a concept as decoupage for beginners. Step by step with a photo, we will analyze all the most popular decoupage techniques. After reading the article, you will learn how to put some tips and instructions into practice by creating unique DIY crafts.

For ease of reading, the material is divided into several large parts:

  • what is decoupage, what you should know before starting work, a list of materials and tools;
  • master classes on a variety of techniques - from the usual work with napkins to the creation of glass wine glasses with drawings;
  • reviews of masters, top 5 most common mistakes of beginners during the decoupage process.

The concept of decoupage technique

Decoupage is a technique for decorating objects by inserting a picture or drawing, followed by coating the glued composition with varnish or paint, ensuring the preservation of the created appearance of the object.

The beginning of decoupage is attributed to the fifteenth century. This art originated in Germany - there are the first mentions of the technique. Cut out pictures were used to decorate furniture and create unique interior items. In Venice, artfully carved images were used, covered with many layers of varnish.

The second heyday of decoupage technique began in the Victorian era in England, from where decoupage as a hobby entered in the first half of the twentieth century. In Russia, there was a similar technique of icon painting, and decoupage itself was developed in the seventeenth-eighteenth century.

Advantages and disadvantages

Decoupage is an excellent method of decorating interior items. Like any decor, it has its own pros and cons, which determine the possibilities of using it for decoration.

Advantages:

  • the possibility of using any material;
  • ease of execution;
  • availability of materials for work;
  • high durability of most types of decor.

Decoupage is undemanding to the source material. Napkins, magazine clippings, and individual printouts are used as drawings. If desired, you can cut out flowers from the wallpaper and place them on cabinets - decoupage does not limit the author's imagination.

Decoupage does not require special skills or tools - it is enough to have scissors, an old magazine, varnish and a brush. In some cases, you do not need to carefully cut out the pattern, since some negligence can add extra charm to the interior.

Varnish and paint are sold in any store. Decorating a wooden door will take no more than one can of varnish in 200 milliliters.

Almost all types of decoupage are durable due to varnish protection. Fragile works include those protected in other ways or without protection at all. For varnished drawings, the only threat is cracking over time.

Flaws:

  • inability to apply to all interior items;
  • requirement for accuracy at work;
  • difficulty in working indoors.

Not every piece of furniture is decorated using the decoupage technique for beginners. Step by step with a photo, we will analyze how bottles, fabric, plastic, a cutting board and other items are decorated. It is not so easy to decorate upholstered furniture or glass. The varnish will not take on the fabric, and the glass will be damaged. In some cases, this is not critical, but do not apply decoupage to glass in windows, since removing varnish is extremely problematic.

The surface for decoupage must be prepared - the old peeling layers of the coating are removed from it. This applies to enamel on old furniture, which must be completely sanded.

To work, you need to be patient - thin drawings require the master to be very careful when creating, since careless movement will easily tear the paper. This is critical when using thin paper.

Paint and varnish products have a specific smell that takes a long time to disappear from the room. Considering that for decoupage it is necessary to apply several layers of varnish, we recommend that you carry out this operation on the street.

The situation is aggravated when it is necessary to sand the surface to start work. With large sizes of the latter, a lot of dust and debris is often formed. This will put an end to the possibility of working indoors.

What you need to know before you start decoupage

Before you start working with drawings, study the features of the fabrics and materials with which you will work.

A thick pattern for decoration looks less natural. This imposes restrictions on the use of thick cardboard and introduces its own requirements for the accuracy of work during the creation of a drawing.

Not every drawing is under varnish. The image must have solvent-resistant inks that will not begin to dissolve under the influence of the latter. Glossy drawings are great, less so for inkjet prints.

Consider the combination of colors during decoupage for beginners (step by step instructions with a photo below). Carefully select images for decoration, since an already fixed illustration is almost impossible to remove from the surface.

What you need for decoupage for beginners: a list to get started

For almost any type of decoupage, a standard list of materials and tools is enough. So, what do you need for decoupage for beginners - list of things:

  • drawing;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • glue brush;
  • varnish;
  • brush for varnish;
  • sandpaper.

To make a standard decoupage, you need a drawing. It is selected in advance. Scissors are needed to cut it. For greater accuracy, use a clerical knife with a sharp blade, or special decoupage knives.

Treat the choice of glue with extreme caution. It is also allowed to use ordinary PVA glue, but over time it will give the image yellowness. To get rid of the effect, choose a special glue that is sold in arts and crafts stores.

Varnish should be chosen special - it lays down in thinner layers and does not use aggressive solvents that can damage the pattern. If this is not available, use the usual varnish for wood or other material - it is selected depending on the material used.

Any brushes are used, but for glue it is preferable to have several brushes of different sizes, allowing you to accurately apply it exactly under the pattern.

Sandpaper is useful to clean the surface of roughness before coating and process the varnish. Sandpaper is recommended to take the least available fractions - 1600, 3200 and others. Too large will unnecessarily damage the varnish and the surface.

Decoupage for beginners: video master class

This video shows a master class on the technique. For successful work, it is enough to follow the tips and steps presented in the video.

Decoupage for beginners: step by step with a photo of 7 master classes

Below are step by step instructions with photos. Decoupage for beginners will not seem so difficult if you follow the clear rules that we have described below.

Decoupage with napkins: step by step instructions

Napkins are very affordable, but not the easiest material to work with. They have a beautiful pattern and look good as jewelry, but leave ugly creases.

For work you will need:

  • napkin;
  • water;
  • flat surface for drawing;
  • acrylic lacquer;
  • brushes.

First, cut out the pattern from the napkin. We recommend doing this with a clerical knife or a set of decoupage knives. The more accurately the drawing is cut, the better the finished element will turn out.

During cutting, the napkin will most likely begin to delaminate. Remove the layers without the picture, leaving only the layer with the image. This will make the result more realistic.

1. We place the pattern on the surface - the napkin is perfectly attached to it. The approach allows you to completely get rid of all possible folds.

2. Wet the brush and start smoothing the drawing.

3. If any wrinkle appears during operation, gently lift the edge and smooth it out with a brush. The napkin will neatly settle down without wrinkles.

Wait for the water to dry. During soaking, the napkin will increase slightly in size, so keep this in mind when composing the composition.

At the end, cover the entire composition with varnish. The varnish depends on the type of surface. Acrylic lacquer is universal. Apply it with a brush, in one direction. The number of layers depends on the wishes of the master, 2-5 layers of varnish are enough.

Detailed decoupage process with napkins in the video below.

woodwork

In the master class below, let's talk about decoupage for beginners on wood. Step by step with a photo in it, we will decorate a wooden pano. For work, special skills are not required, and all materials are sold in applied needlework stores.

List for work:

  • plank;
  • rice paper for decoupage;
  • acrylic paints in green and white;
  • acrylic glue and varnish;
  • brushes.

1. Work begins with painting over the board with acrylic paints. Paint the front and sides.

2. To highlight the main composition, paint the side in a different shade. White and green acrylic paint is mixed for a softer shade.

3. While the board is drying, prepare the drawing. Tear rice paper without fear with your hands - this approach eliminates noticeable transitions.

4. After the entire composition is torn out, place it on a plank and glue it with acrylic glue. It can be applied directly to the drawing itself.

5. After the glue dries, add decorative twigs. This is done with green acrylic paint.

6. Once the glue and paint are dry, start applying the varnish. The varnish is applied in one direction - for example, from top to bottom.

7. The last step is the addition of decorative beads applied to the acrylic varnish that has not yet hardened.

8. After the varnish has dried, the finished work is obtained.

The video shows the complete process of creating a decorative panel using decoupage technique.

Decoupage on fabric

Working with fabric is almost no different from ordinary decoupage, the main thing is to be as accurate as possible during work. The master class tells how to add a picture to an ordinary bag using the decoupage technique, making it a work of art.

You will need:

  • bag;
  • special decoupage glue for fabric;
  • acrylic varnish for fabric;
  • brushes.

1. Work begins with trying on a napkin. It is important to make sure that it fits the size of the subject. It's okay if she goes beyond his borders.

2. After trying on, cut out the pattern, which is subsequently placed on the bag.

3. Strain the napkin - take only the front part of the napkin, where the pattern is located.

4. Next, place the napkin on the bag. To apply glue evenly, mark the borders. It is convenient to do this with pins indicating the edges of the future pattern.

5. Apply acrylic decoupage glue to the fabric. It is sold in arts and crafts stores. Before applying the glue, place cellophane under the fabric - multifors are suitable for this.

6. After applying the glue, place the picture. Smooth it out with a brush. Place the napkin perfectly evenly.

7. Ironing is done through a multifora - so the napkin will stick well. After that, apply a special varnish glue.

8. Wait for the fabric to dry. To strengthen the effect, iron the design through a piece of paper.

9. Then make other decorations - for example, embroidery along the edges of the picture.

Other features of the work are presented in the video, according to which it is possible to create exactly the same bag.

On plastic

The master class tells how decoupage is carried out on plastic. An old computer mouse is used as a basis, which will become a pleasant design element of the room.

Tools and materials:

  • mouse;
  • synthetic brush for water;
  • acrylic lacquer;
  • napkin with a pattern;
  • PVA glue;
  • stationery knife.

The work begins with plastic processing. Often it becomes contaminated with fat, so wash it well and treat with alcohol. This will get rid of excess fat, which will damage the fragile pattern on the napkin.

1. Cut out the drawing. Strain the napkin, removing the extra layers under the pattern. After cutting the napkin, this is easily done.

2. The next step is placement. Attach the pattern in the desired location and smooth it with water. The water will soften the cloth and make it more pliable for the next operation.

3. Glue the pattern with PVA glue or decoupage glue. The latter is better because it does not leave yellowness, but in its absence, other adhesives can be used.

4. We apply acrylic varnish in several layers - the next layer is laid after the previous one has dried. This provides durability to the coating. After the varnish has dried, cut the pattern at the joints of the keys with an ordinary clerical knife.

Decoupage cutting board

Creating a board with decoupage technique is almost the same as creating a panel. The technique is similar and the only difference is in the material used.

You will need:

  • uncoated wooden board;
  • napkin with a suitable pattern;
  • acrylic paints;
  • PVA glue;
  • brushes and sponge.

1. Prepare the board. To do this, paint over one side of it with acrylic paints using a piece of sponge.

2. Wait until the board is completely dry. At this point, prepare your drawing. As with any decoupage napkin, peel and cut or tear to size.

3. Glue the napkin with PVA glue. Apply it from the center of the pattern, evenly smoothing and getting rid of wrinkles.

4. Since the drawing does not occupy the entire surface of the board, additionally paint over the free space. To do this, pick up acrylic paint in the background color of the napkin and paint over all the remaining space with it. It is permissible to work with an acrylic sponge.

5. When the paint is dry, cover the decoupage side of the board with acrylic varnish. Cover in 2-3 layers - so the board will be more resistant to use. Use the other side of the board as usual.

Decoupage bottles for beginners: step by step with a photo

Working with glass is different from other materials. It is specially prepared for work, since ordinary paint or acrylic varnish does not adhere to glass.

To complete the work you will need:

  • bottle;
  • napkin;
  • acrylic primer;
  • sponge;
  • degreasing agent - solvent or alcohol;
  • acrylic paint;
  • acrylic lacquer.

Let's take a closer look at how bottle decoupage is done for beginners, step by step with photos and useful tips.

1. Degrease the surface with alcohol or acetone. It is important to wipe the entire surface - otherwise, the soil will not settle on the glass.

2. Prime and paint the bottle. To do this, take an acrylic primer and mix it in half with the paint of the desired color. Priming is carried out with wetting movements - at the same time, leave the same layer of soil on the entire bottle. Cover the surface with paint of any color.

3. Prepare your drawing. This is done by stratifying the napkin and cutting into the necessary areas. After preparing them, start gluing - this is done with PVA glue. Glue it with gentle movements from the center to the edges, smoothing the napkin.

4. After the glue has dried, coat the entire bottle with acrylic varnish using a soft brush, creating several protective layers.

Decoupage on glass

Decoupage on glass is one of the most difficult, as it requires great accuracy in work. Otherwise, the glass will become cloudy and lose its appearance.

Prepare for work:

  • glass surface;
  • napkins with the necessary pattern;
  • decoupage glue and varnish;
  • brushes.

1. Work begins with surface preparation - degrease it with any solvent (alcohol or acetone).

Since the method does not involve coloring, immediately prepare the drawing - for this, stratify the napkin and tear out the drawing of the desired size and shape.

2. After the drawing is located in the required place and glued. Work from the center to the edges, aligning the napkin. Additionally, dry the drawing with a hairdryer - this will speed up the work process.

3. The last step is to cover the drawings with acrylic varnish. Any outflow from the edges of the picture is noticeable, so apply varnish with due care exclusively on the picture. Acrylic varnish is difficult to remove from the surface, so there is no room for error during coating.

Wait for the varnish to dry and put a candle in the glass. The decorated item plays the role of a great candlestick at night, creating gorgeous patterns in the room.

TOP 5 mistakes

The list below is compiled by experts and allows you to learn about the most common decoupage mistakes.

  1. Smoothing the pattern from the edges to the center. In this case, folds form on it. This is noticeable with wipes as they are soft and thin. When gluing the pattern, work exclusively from the center to the edges;
  2. When decoupage glass or other smooth surfaces, be sure to use a primer. Neglecting it will negate all efforts - the varnish will quickly peel off the surface, ruining all the work;
  3. When choosing a pattern for decoupage, you can not use thick patterns with smooth edges. Such clippings are very noticeable - especially when viewed from the side. This will spoil the appearance of the product and make it unpleasant.
  4. Buy a special set of brushes for glue and varnish. The use of natural brushes for varnish leads to damage to the appearance due to the destruction of the fiber, and the use of synthetics for glue damages the pattern. Mixing glue and varnish on the same brush leads to unpredictable results.
  5. When working with napkins, cut them after delamination. Otherwise, the drawing will shift relative to the lines and deteriorate, becoming unsuitable for further work. Using glossy images, first cover them with water, loosening the tension of the surface layer.
