What to wear with women's jackets: current looks. Jacket and trouser combination

Combinations of clothing, shoes and accessories are a complex but very interesting topic. Today we will tell you about the basic rules that will help you create stylish classic looks - that is, those that we ourselves love and highly recommend to you. No officialdom, no risk - only harmony and elegance.

Trousers and jacket. It's important to create contrast here. This could be a contrast of colors (for example, a blue jacket and gray trousers), a contrast of patterns (for example, plain trousers and a plaid jacket), or a contrast of textures (for example, a tweed jacket and flannel trousers). The jacket can be either lighter or darker than the trousers - this is not critical; the main thing is harmony and a combination that is pleasing to the eye.

Pants and shoes. In Russia and England they like black shoes, but Italians prefer brown ones. And for good reason: often brown shoes really look more stylish, and they go with a great variety of trousers - including blue ones, not to mention gray ones. True, black shoes are also very versatile, as are dark blue ones.

Shirt and jacket. The main rule is that the shirt should be lighter than the jacket; however, there are exceptions that are relevant in the summer. As for patterns, a checkered or striped shirt will go well with a plain jacket. A plain shirt is an ideal companion for a checkered jacket, but a true dandy will not go for such a combination and will match a checkered jacket with a checkered or at least striped shirt. It is necessary that the check or stripe on the shirt be noticeably different in scale from the check or stripe on the jacket.

Shirt and tie. Try to choose a tie that complements and contrasts nicely with your shirt; A dark or richly colored tie in combination with a light shirt is a much less risky combination than a light tie and a dark shirt.

Pocket square. There is no need to be afraid of it: in most cases, this accessory will only make your image better and more advantageous. The basic rule is that the scarf should not completely match the color of the tie. The drawing can be bright and interesting; it’s great if it contrasts with both the jacket and the shirt.

Now let's look at the images that we have compiled from the assortment of our store.

An elegant classic look that is suitable for the office, going to the theater or restaurant. The lack of a tie makes it slightly relaxed and informal, but black shoes, as well as a plain jacket and trousers, clearly hint at the seriousness of its owner. A colored pocket square adds a pop of color to your look.

Brown boots and blue trousers are one of the favorite combinations of Italians; in most cases it looks very good. The gray jacket contrasts softly with the dark trousers, and the blue scarf adds color to the look and enlivens it. The result is a discreet, informal and at the same time elegant ensemble.

First of all, the jacket with a large blue check attracts attention. Pants for such a jacket should be light and plain - or with a discreet pattern. A pink tie with a pattern is a great option for spring and summer; here it harmonizes perfectly with both a jacket and a shirt. The image turns out interesting and extraordinary thanks to the combination of three different patterns. Please note that the check on the shirt is much smaller than the check on the jacket: that is why we see harmony, and not a violent dispute between the patterns of the jacket and shirt.

Another discreetly elegant look that is appropriate at any time of the year: even in winter, even in spring, even in summer. Dark trousers perfectly complement a light jacket with a medium-sized pattern, a checkered shirt with a button-down collar hints at the informality of the setting, and a scarf with a bright ornament enlivens the ensemble. Black shoes look elegant and very appropriate, but do not attract undue attention.

Jeans firmly hold a leading position in almost any men's wardrobe. The main secret of their success is versatility. And it’s difficult to name a more masculine item of clothing than a jacket. And in tandem, these two items look elegant and impressive; a men's jacket under jeans, with the right approach, can be appropriate in almost any situation.

Types of men's jackets

There are two main types of jackets - classic and sporty. The first option is worn only in combination with trousers of the same style and together they make up a business suit.

A sports jacket belongs to the casual style and is an item of everyday wear.

One of the main signs by which you can determine whether a jacket belongs to a particular style is the type of fabric from which it is made. Classic jackets are characterized by the use of smooth fabrics, often fine wool. Most jackets are made from wool. It’s not worth saving and buying polyester, firstly, it is less durable, and secondly, wearing it is much less comfortable. Classic jackets are usually plain or striped. The most commonly used pockets are slit pockets.

The material for sports jackets is predominantly denser fabrics: tweed, corduroy, cotton or linen. The range of colors for them is also much wider - checkered, herringbone, bird's eye.

Patch pockets, metal buttons, sleeves with patches are sure signs that this is a sports jacket.

How to choose jeans?

To create a successful image, it is important not only the style combination, but also the style and color. First, you need to decide for what purpose you are buying jeans. You should opt for a classic style without decoration if you need to create a business, work or evening look. The coloring in this case should also be as laconic as possible: black, white, gray, dark brown, indigo.

For an everyday look, you can choose more original models - with prints, bright colors, unusual cuts, torn trousers. Thus, you can place accents in completely different ways and make the image memorable.

How to choose a jacket?

A cropped jacket will go well with jeans. The best option is when its hem touches your trouser pockets. Jackets with an unusual cut, with decor, bright inserts and complex colors will look good.

The combination of jeans and a jacket is a casual style of clothing, so you should avoid a classic cut. All other elements of clothing must be combined with each other in color and texture. “Jacket plus vest” also belongs to the classic look, so this tandem should also be abandoned.

The material from which this item of clothing is made depends on the situations in which it will be appropriate. For example, jackets made of velor and jacquard are perfect for creating an evening look. You can choose models with original decoration on the sleeves or collar.

In everyday life, you should give preference to more concise solutions. These can be fitted or straight models, youth jackets, with various fittings and inserts, as well as with patches on the elbows. You can choose more classic styles, the main thing is that they are organically combined with the selected jeans model.

For example, a youth jacket and classic jeans will look great with a T-shirt.

In the warm season, preference should be given to models made of linen, knitwear and cotton. And in the fall and spring, you should pay attention to wool, tweed and corduroy, as well as jackets with leather inserts.

Where to wear it?

When choosing an image, you should always take into account the place where you are going.

To work

To create a more formal appearance, you should opt for classic options, as well as laconic colors for fitted models. A tie is not necessary, but it will look quite appropriate with classic jeans and a shirt. For example, as in the photo:

If your field of activity does not require a strict dress code, then you can choose a shirt in a brighter color - checkered or with a variety of, not too catchy, prints. Otherwise, you should stick to a plain or pinstripe shirt.

At leisure

You can simply replace the shirt with a bright T-shirt or long sleeve and your everyday look is ready. An excellent option is a checkered shirt and a laconic jacket with patches. In cooler weather, instead of a shirt, you can wear a plain jumper made of thin knitwear or wool.

To a party, to a club

To create a club look, a textured jacket or a model with bright prints is perfect. For an informal party - a T-shirt. If the event is quite formal, then you should give preference to a shirt.

A jacket combined with jeans looks unusual, original and impressive! The main thing is not to forget to pay attention to other components of the image, such as shoes and accessories.

(excerpt from the seminar “Basic wardrobe items”)

Today we will look at such a basic wardrobe item as a jacket, with examples and variations of how to wear it correctly and what to combine it with correctly.

Three or four years ago there was an exhibition “English Costumes of the 17th-20th Centuries” in the Kremlin. After visiting this exhibition, I came to the conclusion that men's clothing has changed very little. And women's clothing has changed dramatically, in addition, women have taken for themselves almost everything that is in the men's wardrobe. The jacket is one of the things that smoothly migrated into the women's wardrobe from the men's.

Let's look at why it is important to use a jacket in your daily wardrobe? Often, when sorting out the wardrobes of my clients, meeting people for the first time before, and at image trainings, I notice that very few people have jackets. By the way, in the men's version the jacket remains a jacket; in the women's version it can be called a “jacket”. In principle, in various magazines and books, you will come across both options: a jacket and a blazer. So it's the same thing.

I often have to observe what jackets usually go with in people's wardrobes. They wear them entirely in a suit - a jacket with a top, with trousers or a blouse. In this case, the image turns out to be quite boring. Most of my clients work, and many have a so-called dress code at work. But the dress code can be within reason. That is, it is not at all necessary to wear entire suits; you can and should “break” the jacket and trousers together.

The first option that we will consider is how you can combine jackets with trousers. The main rule when choosing a jacket or cardigan: first, try to separate the top and bottom by color and texture of the material. This means that the jacket should differ from the trousers in color and texture of the material. Secondly, try to take jackets that are more interesting in cut. This should not just be a classic jacket, but a jacket with a more interesting cut or with decorative trim.

In the picture above you see a jacket that can hardly be called classic. Firstly, there was a breakdown by color between the top and bottom by color and texture of the material. Secondly, this jacket has a non-classical sleeve length, it is shortened, and there is also trim. Both the collar and lapels are missing. These are the main features of a non-classical jacket.

In a classic jacket, the sleeves are full length, the pockets are either slashed or slashed with flaps. There is no trimming, no lack of lapels, no collar, and no patch pockets. In a classic jacket, there are so-called construction seams; if a seam is torn off, the sleeve falls off and the jacket ceases to exist.

As soon as some non-classical elements appear in the jacket, there are more decorative seams. I tore off a seam and some patch pocket or some trim fell off, but the jacket did not cease to exist because of this. Decorative seams do not change the design of the jacket in any way. Therefore, try to choose a jacket that is more interesting than just a classic one.

And you can combine it with trousers, for example. Here we see trousers paired with a blouse. Moreover, the blouse is not a classic one, but with a paisley pattern that is trendy this season. And complemented by a jacket. The belt matches the color of the jacket, plus a bright, interesting bag. Not just classic, but with a brighter, interesting combination of colors - gray with purple and brown.

A rather complex color scheme here is made for contrast. The colors used are white, black, gray, so the overall tone of the jacket ends up being gray due to the combination of black and white. Of the colors, in fact, yellow was taken, as the color of the blouse, and in contrast to it - purple. According to the rule of opposite harmony. Moreover, there are a lot of blouses in area, yellow color is the background. The purple trim on the bag is a bright accent. It is due to the interesting color combination that sets often look less classic, more interesting, sophisticated, feminine and stylish.

Moreover, the layout remains the same - trousers, blouse and jacket. But the fact is that you can take trousers, a blouse, a jacket and still look like an airport worker. Or you can take trousers, a blouse and a more interesting jacket than the classic one, with some trim and an unusual color combination. In this case, you really get the effect like in the picture above. Agree, it’s elegant, you can wear it to work, it doesn’t look boring, and it has personality.

The following topics were also discussed at the meeting:
-What to pay attention to when dividing the top and bottom of a suit ensemble by color
-How to apply color detailing correctly
-How to effectively use classic jackets in your everyday wardrobe
-How to properly combine a jacket with skirts and dresses
-Why is it important to know the principles of layout and color combinations?
-How to style a jacket to create a feminine style
-How to use jackets to create a sporty style
-Why you shouldn’t rush to buy a three-piece suit
-How a jacket can help make jeans an elegant and stylish outfit
-How many jackets should you have in your wardrobe?
-Why the jacket almost never goes out of fashion
-Why you should actively wear jackets

For many centuries, the jacket was an exclusively male part of the wardrobe; women wore riding jackets or coats. And as a female detail of appearance, they appeared already in the 20th century, when loose and open outfits and men's clothing elements began to replace corsets and fluffy skirts. Women began to cut their hair short, wear jeans and trousers, trying to look like men. A jacket adapted for female shapes came here - a fitted silhouette, large buttons, decoration with lace and rhinestones. They began to use a variety of fabrics - in the summer they took light sateen, knitwear, cotton, in the winter - velvet, tweed, wool, cashmere.

The history of the jacket

The jacket was modified many times before it came to us in its modern form. This is a universal item in the wardrobe that can favorably highlight the advantages of the figure, intelligently hide flaws and fits any look. You can wear it to work, to the office, or to a party at a club; you just need to choose the right style, color, combinations and accessories.

Coco Chanel offered an addition to her famous dress - a black jacket for women. Despite the fact that it was the 20s. In the 20th century, this idea appealed to many fashionistas in London and Paris, and a little later, a shortened tweed model became her next masterpiece and a legend that has survived to this day.

Half of Europe dreamed of buying it, thanks to this the Fashion House regained its former popularity. A type of jacket - a tuxedo - was offered to women in the 20s. Saint Laurent, his collections over the years produced more than 200 models.

How to choose a color?

In addition to classic black, you can choose almost any shade for yourself: blue, green, brown, gray, red, pink and others. Although it is accepted that plain fabrics are work options, gray and white look great on a walk, and blue and brown can be chosen for an important meeting or a festive event. Let's look at each of the popular fabric colors and select a set for each.

  • Traditional black. A universal color that can be combined with absolutely any other. It looks good with white, beige and light blue, especially when it is plain trousers or a blouse. The classic combination of black + red - the main thing here is not to overdo it with details and elements, the combination itself is very bright and catchy. If you choose a black jacket and a red blouse or dress, then there should be a minimum amount of jewelry, and the shoes and bag should be black and smooth.

This color also looks harmonious with jeans and trousers; in the latter case, the fabric and the pattern on it should match in both items of clothing. Then it looks like a suit and looks beautiful.

  • Dark blue color. It is better to highlight them separately from blue ones; they carry different moods and are packaged differently. A long model or sleeveless vest goes well with jeans and shorts, a short classic one goes well with a skirt, a dress, and any type of trousers. Blue looks best with beige, white and blue; it is better not to wear it with brown or bright colors - the emphasis should be on the jacket. But large beads or wide bracelets are perfect here.
  • Blue jacket. It looks frivolous, if it is in heavenly or bright colors, it is unlikely to be suitable for a business meeting, even in the summer. In such a case, it is better to choose muted shades, pastel colors, then you can choose white trousers or a skirt, a dark blue top or blouse.

Blue goes well with jeans of any length. The sleeveless jacket complements Bermuda shorts and breeches in light tones or navy.

  • Red jacket. Must be worn with care, it goes with white, pink, beige, brown and black. Even such a bright color looks great with jeans, you just need to choose the style.
  • Advice.
    A fitted red blazer can be worn over a black, gray or white dress or blouse in cool weather.
  • White color. You can choose for any event: a business or important meeting, a movie or a cafe, a date or a walk with friends. The combination of white + black or dark blue looks beautiful, and the trousers can be either light or dark.

For a white jacket you can choose large beads, bright jewelry, colored shoes or a handbag. This is the most democratic and universal color that can be combined with any other.

  • Beige color. Like white, it goes well with any other color and looks great with bright and colorful dresses, skirts, light and dark trousers, as well as jeans. You can choose a style for any event; sleeveless models are worn like sweaters.
  • Yellow, green, pink jackets, as well as colored models. Can be combined with white, beige trousers, skirts, shorts and dresses. Or choose clothes in the same color scheme, maybe a little darker or lighter.
  • Models with large floral patterns, checks or stripes. Use with caution as they do not mix well with other shades. Pants or skirt should be plain, and jewelry should be minimal.

Which style should you choose?

In addition to the color combination, the style of the jacket, its style and cut are also important; each figure needs its own type to emphasize the advantages and hide the disadvantages. Fitted hip-length options highlight the waistline, add volume to the chest and hide excessive thinness in the shoulders. And double-breasted suits almost any figure, visually stretching it.

  • Advice.
    Long knee-length models should be avoided if you are tall, but short girls can safely wear them - in warm weather with heeled sandals, and in winter - with boots or high boots.

A jacket with 1 or two buttons is worn over a fitted blouse or turtleneck, buttoned or undone. They are often made of velvet and worn with tight trousers or a skirt. The downside of this style is that it is somewhat stiff in movement and should be chosen with caution for overweight girls. A belt in a contrasting color will mark the waist area.

There is another win-win option for any type of figure - an elongated jacket with a stand-up collar; it stretches and lengthens the silhouette and goes well with any type of clothing, except full skirts and wide trousers.

A tuxedo jacket is suitable only for thin women; it fits at the waist and flares slightly at the bottom, creating additional volume. It comes only in black, with satin pockets and lapels, and the buttons are black, silver or gold.

The silhouette can be straight or fitted; any of these options is best chosen by thin girls of average height. Those who are too tall will look even taller, and those who are plump will get extra volume; those who are short will look comical.

Wide and baggy jackets will suit thin and average girls if they wear them with skinny trousers or jeans. Volume at the bottom and top will look awkward, while tight-fitting models can be worn together.

Girls with thin shoulders should pay attention to jackets with raised shoulders, then the figure becomes wider, acquiring a slightly masculine outline.

What can you wear a jacket with?

The versatility of jackets lies in their ability to be worn with any type of clothing, you just need to choose the right style and color. It can be worn to work in the office, to a business meeting or conference, for a walk or on a date; you can even find a suitable model for going out into nature. What are the most popular options:

Jeans, denim breeches and shorts

The most popular and win-win jacket set. Short models, fitted or with a belt, are combined with tapered and straight pants. They are also suitable for long jackets, sleeveless vests and straight models, even knee-length. The shorts should be below the sides, otherwise the silhouette will be short and the shorts will not be visible.

Almost any fabric is suitable for jeans, in summer it is chintz or suit fabric, in winter it is thicker, the same goes for color. This is the only option suitable for any jacket, the main thing is that it is correctly selected for the figure.

Combination "Pants + jacket"

It's more difficult here. The ideal option is that the same fabric creates the effect of a suit; all you have to do is add a blouse, top or T-shirt and the look is ready. The principles for choosing a jacket model are the same as for jeans. Narrow trouser models go well with any top style, but wide and flared trousers - only with narrow jackets. Colors can be combined in different ways: a dark top with light trousers looks as harmonious as the opposite option. The main thing is that the color scheme is chosen correctly and there are no more than 3 primary colors in the entire image.

Jacket combined with dress

Only certain styles are appropriate. Length to the knees and below, fitted or straight with a fitted silhouette. Moreover, it itself should have a length to the hips or below; models that are too short or long are not suitable. Ruffles and flounces are not appropriate under a jacket, just like pleated skirts; most evening models are also not suitable.

It is better to choose a bolero or cardigan here. The jackets have a too strict and straight silhouette; it will not suit a long evening dress. But you can combine any colors if they look beautiful together, there are no special rules or restrictions.

By combining all the rules for combining and selecting a set for a jacket, you can determine a list of tips for choosing a model and color. It will help you find out what you need to pay attention to when buying a jacket and which model is right for you.

  • Any model and any silhouette will suit thin girls of average height, a long straight one – straightens and lengthens it, a short and fitted one – outlines the waistline;
  • Plump girls should avoid narrow and very open jacket models, they will add extra volume;
  • The best combination can be considered a jacket + jeans of any length; in this look you will be equally appropriate for a walk or at a party;
  • An office jacket for a work environment is very different from an everyday one, it has clear lines, a minimum of details and is made of plain suiting fabric, tweed or wool;
  • A narrow jacket with narrow or wide trousers, loose - only with tight-fitting ones;
  • The most popular and universal colors are black, dark blue, white and cream, the rest should be chosen with care;
  • A jacket is a universal outerwear that can be suitable for any occasion;
  • For winter you need to choose cashmere, wool, suiting fabric, summer models - from linen, chintz, silk, cotton;

  • You can hide extra pounds and centimeters at the waist with a straight, masculine jacket, and a fitted style will help add volume to the hips and chest;
  • The wide shoulders of the jacket are only relevant in the office or at a business meeting - this is a masculine silhouette chosen by women as workwear;
  • 3/4 sleeves and sleeveless jackets can be worn with gloves made of lace, leather or velvet;
  • Ideal combinations – white+black, white+blue, white+red, red+black;
  • Brown, green and yellow jackets need to be combined very carefully, these colors are capricious.

Accessories and decorations for jackets

In combination with a jacket, shoes can be absolutely anything; for a disco, choose sandals or high-heeled shoes, out of town - sneakers, for the office - pumps, for a walk - ballet flats or sandals. All options are possible if you choose the right style - fitted jackets with 1-2 buttons will not go well with sneakers and ballet shoes, you should choose heels here, and a straight cut looks great with rolled up sleeves and sneakers.

Bags are matched to shoes - shoes and ballet flats mean classic models with handles or a clutch, but sneakers are equipped with shoulder bags or backpacks. Accessories for the neck and earrings should be chosen only with plain jackets; pendants, large beads, and pearls are suitable here.

But bracelets won’t work here, only with ¾ sleeves or shorter. For fitted models, it is possible to wear a belt, depending on the style and cut - a chain with stones or a leather strap.

As a conclusion

Whatever model of jacket you choose, you should understand that this is men’s clothing, which adds severity to the image and is most relevant in a work environment. Many girls buy them and don't find a reason to wear them. A huge advantage of such outerwear is its versatility and the ability to quickly and easily create a fashionable look with minimal investment. If the jacket suits your body type and you have nice jeans, then you should try dressing in a new style.

My Suit

The ability to elegantly combine unpaired pants and trousers commands, at a minimum, respect. We are used to seeing stylish men in ensembles during leisure time, that is, at all kinds of informal events. However, it is curious that before the First World War, jacket suits were considered sportswear, and the combination of an unpaired jacket with trousers was a strict uniform. Yes, today it's the other way around. Resorts, informal business or friendly meetings and any non-business events are a good reason to choose a mismatched ensemble.

The informal business style is rapidly conquering men's wardrobes, and there are fewer and fewer reasons to wear tailored clothes... As a result, if a person comes to the atelier, he orders a jacket, believing that this is a more universal option for those rare occasions when it is necessary to look smart needles. As a last resort, order blue - another unpretentious element of the men's wardrobe, which can easily be combined with almost any casual items. The trend is sad, because the possibilities of individual tailoring are inexhaustible, but the general level of culture (or well-being?) does not allow us to appreciate this.

7 principles to consider when choosing a mismatched jacket

  1. Mismatched jackets are worn in cases where a suit is not required.
  2. It is advisable to have several jackets made of different fabrics: tweed for the autumn-winter period, linen for the summer.
  3. Unpaired is a good choice for extravagant men, because any whimsical combination is acceptable here. Spectacular, non-trivial colors and patterns, unlike jacket suits, are an endless field for fashionable experiments.
  4. The main thing is to create a contrast between the trousers and the mismatched jacket. Otherwise, it may seem that you have mixed up the costumes in your sleep. Contrast is the combination of different fabrics and patterns. For example, “wool + linen”, or “corduroy + tweed”. Plain trousers combined with a patterned jacket or vice versa. Do not try to combine motley patterns of unpaired elements into one ensemble: even if the patterns are different, their combination may dazzle your eyes. Want to stand out from the crowd? Try to put together an image based on a plain mismatched jacket combined with large check trousers. This rare combination will attract attention without causing irritation.
  5. We also choose color combinations based on the principle of contrast and remember that gray trousers go with all jackets except gray ones. Gray jackets love brown, white and blue trousers. If you want to choose a combination in a single palette, find different shades of the same color. For example, “mustard + brown-beige.”
  6. Buttons on unmatched jackets usually have two holes, while buttons on suit jackets have four. But there are no strict rules here. By the way, you can see that jackets with five working loops are now very popular.
  7. The choice of shoes for a mismatched jacket is limited to only one recommendation - forget about black shoes. Black shoes are not worn with mismatched jackets, unless you are a Parisian who strives to combine the formality of a suit with the style of a mismatched jacket. In this case, the ensemble consists of black shoes + blazer + gray trousers + formal shirt + tie.
