The prototype was the 70s movie star Douglas Fairbanks, and the live model was professional dancer Lewis Hightower. The latter amazed the entire creative team of creators with his beautiful muscular legs. In addition, Snow White was based on his dance partner, Marjorie Belcher.

Handsome Man from Cinderella (1950)

The beautiful but bland hero from Cinderella was called Charming. He does not have a name as such, but his role is more memorable than that of his predecessor. According to the story, the father-king, in honor of his return, arranges a magnificent reception, a ball, where the hero falls in love (also at first sight) with the beautiful Cinderella.

By the way, many Disney princes do not live in the same area with their future betrothed, but come or leave, or travel in search of happiness. The ending is known to everyone: the hero will find his runaway lover by looking at an elegant shoe, despite the machinations of his cruel stepmother and evil sisters. This character was voiced by Michael Douglas and based on choreographer Ward Ellis. It turns out that the early Disney princes in real life all had one thing or another to do with choreography.

"Sleeping Beauty". Prince Philip (1959)

All the Disney princes before the appearance of Philip were extremely peace-loving; the hero from “Sleeping Beauty” was the first to take up the sword. Before snatching his beloved from the embrace of lethargy, he endured a fight with the sorceress Maleficent. In this animated film, the prince was portrayed by the leading actor of "Space Patrol" - Ed Kemmer, it was this actor who had to wield a sword on wooden stands in the climactic battle.

"Mermaid". Eric (1989)

The appearance of this cartoon marked the revival of the studio, and in it the prince's character was no longer an extra. Fortunately, the creators did not thoroughly follow the literary original by Hans Christian Andersen, removing a fair amount of tragedy from the story. Eric owes his dazzling appearance and brilliant smile to film actor Joshua Finkel.

"The beauty and the Beast". Prince Adam Enchanted (1991)

Many Disney princes, the list of which exceeds a dozen, were originally enchanted. Among them is Adam, the key character of the cartoon. The entire plot is based on the development of his relationship with the sweet, beautiful Belle. The prototype of the hero was the actor Peter Hastings, who has nothing in common with the drawn character (outwardly). He was responsible for Adam's pantomime and facial expressions in those moments when the prince was in animal form. Both forms of Adam were voiced by Robbie Benson; the creators superimposed the growl of a wild animal onto his voice (in the guise of an animal) for greater persuasiveness.

Fake Prince Ali Ababua from Aladdin

Ali Ababua is the only fake prince on the list of beloved Disney princesses. He only took on the appearance of a prince in order to win the heart of the beautiful but wayward Jasmine. Despite the intrigues and tricks of the evil vizier Jafar, the lovers overcome all difficulties and disagreements. Initially, the creators tried to draw Ali from Michael Jay Fox, but then they added features of rapper MC Hammer and Tom Cruise to his image.

"The Princess and the Frog." Naveen (2009)

Naveen is further proof of the fact that many Disney princes have been transformed into not-so-nice animals. The first two-dimensional cartoon did not live up to the expectations placed on it. The prince of the kingdom of Maldonia, Naveen, a carefree jazz fan, by the will of fate ends up in New Orleans. A spoiled young man, arousing the admiration of others, is unable to win the heart of a simple black waitress (by the way, the first African-American princess in Disney cartoons). The relationship between the characters develops according to the classic rom-com pattern. The character was voiced by Bruno Campos, familiar to viewers from his role as Quentin Costa in the TV series Nip/Tuck.

New rules of the game

Proof of the ingenuity of the creators of the cartoon "Frozen" is the character of Prince Hans Vestergaard. This beautiful fairy tale primarily tells about the sisterly love of two princesses - Elsa and Anna (at the center of the story are girls and their girlish fears and dreams), but there are also feelings for the opposite sex in the film. And first the false ones, then the real ones. In the finale, all that remains of Andersen’s familiar fairy tale is only an idea, but the authors of the cartoon expanded it significantly and presented it in a very original and bright way. Prince Hans plays the role of a negative hero, the main villain. The antagonist was voiced by television actor Santino Fontana.

(1937) the prince plays a purely practical role as the future betrothed of the main character and does not show any special activity. He first appears on screen when Snow White is languishing in the castle of her stepmother, the evil queen. The heroine charms him with her sonorous singing, so much so that the prince (his name is Ferdinand, but this name is never pronounced) falls in love with the girl at first sight: in the early works of the Disney studio, this model of relationship was a common practice. The prince will appear again when Snow White lies in the crystal coffin. After a saving kiss, the hero takes his resurrected beloved to his kingdom to the delight of the dwarves. To be fair, it should be noted that initially the role of the prince was spelled out much more broadly, but problems arose with his animation (in the drawings he appeared stooped). The animators took the movie star of those years, Douglas Fairbanks, as the prototype for Ferdinand, and the dancer Lewis Hightower, who was chosen for his “beautiful muscular legs,” acted as a live model. He was the first dance partner of Marjorie Champion (née Belcher), the girl with whom Snow White was drawn. They later did a show together on Broadway, and then Lewis was drafted into the army, where he unfortunately died.

Charming from Cinderella

Disney animators created another rather bland prince in Cinderella (1950). True, Charming (in his honor, apparently, the creators of “Shrek” named one of their unpleasant characters) had a more memorable role. According to the plot, in honor of the return of the prince, the father-king arranges a big ball, at which the young man falls in love with Cinderella. We know how it all ends: the miniature shoe will find its owner.

Here, however, it must be said that in the threequel to “Cinderella” called “Evil Spell” (2007), which tells in the manner of the last “Terminator” about the creation of an alternative reality and a new time loop, the prince shows himself much more actively. And in the recent live-action “Cinderella” (Richard Madden, Robb Stark from ) he’s no slouch either.

In the original version, this character was voiced by Michael Douglas (another), and played (on Cinderella, live-action technology began to be used: sitters were filmed, and then the footage was translated into drawings) by choreographer Ward Ellis, who began his career as dancer in 1950s films and later became an assistant choreographer on films like The King and I before leaving to perform on various television shows.

Conceived back in the 1930s as a Silly Symphonies short, The Little Mermaid (1989) marked a renaissance for Disney in the late eighties. The prince (whose name is Eric) was no longer an extra. In general, all the characters in this story, which, fortunately, moved away from the tragedy of Hans Christian Andersen, were incredibly alive (which is worth Jamaican crab Sebastian!).

Eric owed his dazzling smile to actor Joshua Finkel, who starred in all the scenes with the character. Now Joshua is 51 years old, he teaches acting, but he still remembers the role of the prince.

Adam from Beauty and the Beast

A little more time passed - and in Beauty and the Beast (1991), the enchanted prince (his name, it turns out, is Adam) became one of the key characters. Actually, this cartoon is dedicated to the story about the careful building of the relationship between him and the beautiful Belle: what was impossible to imagine in the 30s and 50s became possible in the late 80s - early 90s (it is not surprising that “Beauty and the Beast” "became the first animated film to be nominated for an Oscar in the Best Picture of the Year category).

The role of the prince was played by actor Peter Hastings, who outwardly had nothing in common with the character, either in his human or even more so in his animal form. However, it was he who was responsible for the facial expressions and movements of the monster, whose very appearance the animators sculpted from various wild animals. For example, the monster had the mane of a lion, the beard and head of a buffalo, the eyebrows of a gorilla, the tusks of a wild boar, the body of a bear, and the legs and tail of a wolf. And only the animators left human eyes for this character. By the way, both incarnations of the main character were voiced by Robbie Benson. However, in the scenes when he spoke for the monster, his voice was superimposed with the roar of predatory animals.

Ali Ababua from Aladdin

Prince Ali Ababua is the only fake prince on this list. This is the alter ego of the main character of the story, Aladdin, who, with the help of Genie, takes on the appearance of a royal person in order to woo Princess Jasmine. The girl, however, quickly sees through him, and the evil vizier Jafar begins to weave intrigues against him. Initially, Aladdin in the cartoon was supposed to look like Michael Jay Fox, but during the work the character's design underwent changes and acquired the features of Tom Cruise, rapper MC Hammer and male models from the Calvin Klein company.

If Adam was unlucky enough to turn into a monster, then Prince Navin - into a frog. “The Princess and the Frog” (2009) became the studio’s first two-dimensional cartoon in a long time, but, alas, did not greatly live up to the expectations placed on it. It's a pity, because the action took place in the most cinematic place on the planet - New Orleans, Louisiana.

Naveen is the prince of the distant kingdom of Maldonia, who is so passionate about jazz that his path lies in New Orleans. Navin is an extremely spoiled and irresponsible young man, who, however, has a natural charm that can captivate the people around him. However, his tricks have no effect on Tiana, a black waitress (and the first black princess in the Disney pantheon). The relationship between her and Naveen develops according to the principle of classic rom-coms, when the characters at first cannot stand each other, but then slowly get used to each other. Naveen was voiced by Bruno Campos, an American actor of Brazilian origin who became famous for his role as Dr. Quentin Costa in the television series Nip/Tuck.

Fortunately, the blond beauty (even her dirty robe could not hide her charm) had a godmother who was a sorceress. Of course, the heroine was also lucky to have miniature feet.

Aurora

Aurora can be seen in the 1959 film Sleeping Beauty. It is by this last name that many people know her. The sixteen-year-old girl is a full-fledged princess - the daughter of a king and queen. The slender blonde has captivated all lovers of Charles Perrault's fairy tale. And this despite the fact that she loves to sleep!

She is perhaps one of the few whose story includes an adversary with a strong personality. The witch Maleficent even deserved her own Disney film, where the character was played by Angelina Jolie. Aurora also appeared in a couple of related projects, where she can't be ignored.

Ariel

Ariel wowed audiences with her cuteness in 1989. She is a sea maiden (i.e. a mermaid). The heroine was destined to become the youngest (seventh) daughter of the sea king. However, then she also marries the prince, so there is no need to worry about the status of a princess.

The storyteller Andresen once wrote a sad story about the Little Mermaid. Disney, after the problems with Bambi, could not afford to be judged by the audience. Thus, Ariel's story ended happily.

She appeared in the sequels as well as the animated series. By the way, this is the only princess who is not originally a real person.

Belle

You can't talk about princesses without mentioning France. Here is the seductive Mademoiselle Belle at your service! This is a well-read and simple village girl who believes in happiness.

She believed for a long time (she turned 21), but, nevertheless, she always relied on what her heart told her.

She was able to help the prince get rid of the spell, so she deservedly received the honorary title. Interestingly, among the other princesses there are no longer brown-haired women. French women have always had a talent for standing out. The Belle storyline is very popular and she appears in many projects.

Jasmine

Pocahontas

Disney decided to turn to its roots and show how princesses lived on the American continent. In 1995, a film about the adventures of Pocahontas was released. The black-haired, athletic and flexible Indian woman has not earned her nickname, which translates as “naughty,” for nothing. She is a prankster.

Pocahontas's father is the leader of a large tribe, so she is a princess. This means that she is allowed to run wherever she wants. The girl loves to be alone and feel how great nature is. Her best friends are a raccoon and a hummingbird. When the first white settlers arrived, the heroine was the first to know about it.

Mulan

Mulan is on the list of Disney princesses, apparently for the sake of quantity. At least that's what Mooney was thinking about, intending to make the most of the sale. Although it cannot be said that Mulan is not worthy of such a title.

The story, which viewers met in 1998, tells the story of the national heroine of the Chinese epic, who saved the country from the invasion of the Huns. And then the girl married a military leader who had reached great heights. And this despite the fact that he could take this post herself! Moreover, Mulan could marry the prince in the second part of her adventures. But love conquered everything.

Tiana

Tiana never even thought about becoming a princess. Black waitresses living in New Orleans rarely dream of this. The heroine worked very hard, intending to continue her father's work and open her own restaurant. Slowly but surely she walked towards achieving her goal until a frog came across her hand.

The prince of an exotic country was turned into an amphibian for personal gain. He believed that the princess's kiss would save him. At the carnival, Tiana was dressed like royalty.

Alas, then they began to jump together towards their happiness. The girl proved that she is worthy of her title.

Rapunzel

The original story of Rapunzel is told by the Brothers Grimm. Disney smoothed out some corners and the result was a children's cartoon. Childish? Yes, but not really. The main character is Princess Merida. She is the daughter of a king, so all traditions are followed. The girl is sixteen years old and full of energy. Unruly red curls, a bow on her back and a faithful horse - she needs nothing more. She messed up a little with magic, but then, of course, she corrected herself. Interestingly, Merida does not have a boyfriend. Which is nonsense for Disney princesses.

Unofficial princesses

That's it for the list of Disney princesses. It only seems so to you. In fact, the studio could not stop at eleven beautiful heroines. This is how a list of unofficial princesses arose, which consists of almost all female characters from the films that were released on screens.

There was even a video game released in which all the girls were called Princesses of Heart.

Alice

The cartoon "Alice in Wonderland" was released in 1951. The plot is based on Lewis Carroll's duology, with some changes. The girl Alice falls asleep in the garden. She is woken up by the White Rabbit running past, who is terribly late. The heroine, rushing after him, ends up in Wonderland.

There is also a game adaptation. There were even two parts. True, the films only use familiar characters. The plot moved on. And Alice, can one imagine such a thing, is playing tricks with the Mad Hatter. True, he is played by Johnny Depp. Be that as it may, the presence of this character in the list of princesses can be justified.

Ding Ding

Peter Pan was released in 1953. James Barrie's play was a great success, so the story had to be brought to the screen. Among other characters (Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Crocodile), Tinker Bell stands out. She is a small and very cute fairy who constantly tries to get the boy Pan out of problems.
