Holidays are days off. The opportunity to relax an extra day does not please only employers and workaholics. But it is better for them to prepare in advance for the fact that the entrance to work will be closed.

Since May 2014, there has been a public discussion of the draft Government Decree on the postponement of holidays in 2015. In accordance with this document, next year the holidays will be postponed:

Saturday 3 January - Friday 9 January.
Sunday 9 January - Monday 4 May.

As a result, with a five-day working week, holidays and days off are distributed as follows:

New Year - 11 days off.
February 23 - 3 days off.
International Women's Day March 8 - 3 days off.
May Day holidays - 4 days.
Victory Day May 9 - 3 days off.
Day of Russia June 12 - 3 free days.
National Unity Day November 4 - 1 day.

This year, the January holidays will last 11 days - from January 1 to January 11. Unfortunately, I will have to work on December 31, a day off on this day would be very helpful. Saturday and Sunday (January 3rd and 4th) fall during the holiday period, which will be rescheduled to January 9th (Friday) and May 4th (Monday).

February 23 - Defender of the Fatherland Day

In 2002, the State Duma decided to make this day a non-working day, and in 2015 we were lucky - February 23 fell on a Monday. This means that together with Saturday and Sunday we will be free for three days - the weekend will be longer than usual. Do not forget to congratulate everyone who is related to the army, participated in the hostilities. According to the established tradition, on this day all representatives of the stronger sex are congratulated on the "International Men's Day".

March 8 - International Women's Day

March 8 is World Women's Day. This day has long lost its original meaning - women no longer need to assert their equality with men. The holiday of spring and beauty is another reason to show respect and appreciation to women. In 2015, March 8 fell on a Sunday, which means that the day off was moved to Monday. So, we will meet spring for three days: March 7, 8, and 9.

Holidays in May

Since the holiday was moved from January 4 (Sunday) to May 4, International Workers' Day will become a full-fledged May holiday and will last 4 days: from May 1 to May 4 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday). Victory Day this year fell on Sunday, that is, the day off was moved to Monday. Three days will be free on May 9, 10 and 11.

June 12 - Day of Russia

On this day in 1990, the Congress of People's Deputies of the RSFSR adopted the Declaration on State Sovereignty, and since 1992 June 12 has been considered a public holiday. June 12, 2015 fell on a Friday and, together with the following Saturday and Sunday, made three free days from work.

November 4 - National Unity Day

In 2004, the Federal Law established that November 4 would be National Unity Day, and since 2005 this day has become a day off. The date was chosen to commemorate the day when the people's militia liberated Moscow from the Polish invaders in 1612. In 2015, this public holiday falls on a Wednesday, which means that we get an extra day off in the middle of the week.

The norms of working hours are calculated according to the schedule of a 5-day working week with days off on Saturday and Sunday. With 40 working hours per week, the working day is 8 hours, if a 36-hour week is set - 7.2 hours, with a 24-hour working week - the work lasts 4.8 hours.

Work on public holidays is prohibited by part one of Article 113 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation. At the same time, on pre-holiday days, the duration of work is reduced by 1 hour, but only on condition that the day off follows immediately after the working day. If a holiday falls on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday), it is moved to the next business day. In 2015, the pre-holiday days will be April 30, May 8, June 11, November 3, December 31.

In the period from January 1 to January 8, weekends that coincided with holidays are not transferred as a general rule. The issue of postponing these additional days off was taken over by the Government. In 2015, with a 5-day working week, there will be 247 working days, 5 of which are shortened, and 118 are weekends and non-working days.

On the eve of Holy Week, Orthodox believers celebrate (this is how the church holiday is called Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem).

The holiday is dedicated to the solemn entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. On a young donkey, Jesus Christ rode into the capital of Judea to the admiring exclamations of the crowd, covering the way for him with branches of date palms, like a king or a conqueror.

In our "northern" country, palm trees do not grow (with the exception of the city of Sochi and its environs), so in Rus' palm branches were replaced with willow branches. On Palm Sunday, believers make bouquets of willow branches with fluffy buds, consecrate them in churches and put them at home as a symbol of the holiday.

For a whole year, until the next Palm Sunday, several branches are kept behind the icon, bringing peace and prosperity to the house.

Traditions and customs of Palm Sunday:

The tradition of celebrating this day has long been established.

In the morning with a small bouquet of willow attend a church service where is happening consecration of twigs. The number of willow branches should correspond to the number of members of your family.

After consecration, the willow acquires miraculous power: it saves from diseases, evil spirits, damage and other troubles.

At the end of the service, the whole family gathers for a festive dinner. It is on the day of Palm Sunday that it is allowed to cook various dishes with fish for lunch during Great Lent.

A custom from ancient times not allowed to work on that day. However, this rule only applies first half of the day usually before the end of the church service. After all, household chores, especially in rural areas, cannot be avoided. Try, if possible, not to wash on this day, but you can deal with the earth.

There are also customs associated with willow, collected and consecrated on Palm Sunday:

* Willow twigs have truly miraculous properties. Collected on this day, they are able to drive away illness and misfortune. Therefore, on the way home from the temple, many people lightly whip each other with willow.

* Willow buds, if you carry them with you, give strength to men. And young women use willow buds as amulet and assistant in the conception of a child. There is a belief that if you eat 9 willow buds (can be baked in bread), it will save you from toothache, infertility, sore throat, and other diseases.

* If pat a girl on the back a twig of a flowering willow, then the groom will certainly appear soon and the wedding is just around the corner.

* On farms bake special bread in which willow buds are mixed. If such bread is fed to livestock or pets, then the animals will begin (continue) to grow well and will not get sick.
