Short mittens knitting patterns with a description. Ways of knitting mittens with knitting needles: diagrams and description. What why

Mitts are gaining more and more popularity every year. This is primarily due to the fact that thanks to them, the hands are warm, while the fingers can do anything. This is especially true when using a smartphone. Buying mitts today is not at all difficult, their variety is simply huge. But knitted mitts on their own will surpass the purchased ones many times over both in quality and in appearance.

How to knit mitts with your own hands? This is not at all difficult to do and even a beginner needlewoman can easily cope with this task. But first things first.

What are mitts?

Everyone knows that mitts are the same gloves without fingers. Before, everything was exactly the same. But modern craftswomen show such imagination when creating this accessory that the variety of mittens is simply amazing.

Especially popular are the so-called "pipes" - these are mitts with only one separate cut for the thumb. Quite interesting look mitts with a "wedge" for the thumb.

Where to begin?

If you look at the master class on knitting mittens, then the basic principles and sequence of their creation will become clear. Let's analyze the sequence of actions using the simplest mitt model as an example.

Mitts are knitted in the same way as gloves, on five stocking needles. Before starting work, measurements must be taken. They are much smaller than when calculating the size of gloves. It is enough to measure:

  • palm circumference;
  • thumb circumference.

And that's it. These two indicators will be quite enough. Depending on the type of yarn chosen and the thickness of the knitting needles, it is necessary to calculate, based on the measurements obtained, the required number of loops. This is a very important point, since the correct determination of the number of loops directly determines how the mitts will sit on the hand.

Almost any diagram of how to knit mittens for beginners contains a detailed description of both yarn and the required number of loops. But in this case, you should focus solely on your measurements and vary the data in one direction or another.

What why?

Do-it-yourself step-by-step knitting of mitts with your own hands, which is described below, will allow beginner needlewomen to master this activity without much difficulty. Well, let's get started.

Cast on 44 loops (or any other required number) and tie the cuffs of the desired length. Usually the cuffs are knitted with an elastic band, but this is not necessary, more complex patterns can be used. It all depends solely on individual preferences and the skill of the needlewoman.

When knitting reaches the palm of your hand, the number of loops must be reduced to 40. So knit until the desired length is reached.
The last few rows are also knitted with an “elastic band” pattern, and then close the loops in a circle in the usual way.
That's all, pipe mitts are ready.

This is the simplest version of knitting mittens, but it is he who is the basis for knitting more complex patterns. To tie the mitts with a hole for the thumb, the corresponding instructions and a description of how to tie the mitts will help. There is nothing particularly difficult in this process.

A little more about mitts…

You can choose absolutely any yarn for knitting mittens, it all depends on individual wishes. The main thing is that the thickness of the needles clearly corresponds to the thickness of the thread. But it should be noted that the thinner the thread, the more delicate and refined the finished product will look. Mitts knitted from thick yarn will have a rough and even awkward appearance.

You can decorate mitts not only with the help of a variety of patterns, although there are a huge number of them. Gloves look great, knitted from multi-colored threads. Striped mitts look bright and interesting.

The main thing is not to overdo it with the number of colors used in one product, otherwise all the work will be in vain and the appearance will be spoiled from the very beginning.

In addition, it is fashionable to decorate mitts with accessories such as:

  • bows;
  • lace;
  • buttons;
  • laces;
  • decorative buttons;
  • artificial and natural fur;
  • straps and so on.

What is more convenient to knit mittens - circular knitting needles or hosiery? There is no definite answer here. It all depends on the skill level of the needlewoman and how it is more convenient for her to work. You can also crochet mitts, but there the process will be significantly different from knitting.

Mitts go well with almost any outfit, they keep your hands warm enough. At the same time, the fingers remain 100% capable. This piece of clothing will allow you to give the image of individuality.

Knitting mittens is so simple that even a beginner knitter can easily cope with this task. With just a little practice, the mittens will turn from an ordinary thing into a real work of art. After all, everything is limited only by the wishes and imagination of the craftswoman.

Photo instruction on how to knit mittens with knitting needles

But on the other hand, it is quite realistic to do it, you just need to be more patient and look at the basic principles.

How to knit gloves with stocking knitting needles: general rules and recommendations

Taking measurements from hands

  • in order for the product to be neat and the gloves fit well on the hand, fitting its shape with precision, gloves are best knitted from fine woolen fabric or with wool additives. So you can choose angora yarn and do not forget about thin knitting needles.
  • it is recommended to make a knitted product a few centimeters narrower than the circumference of the hand of the future wearer. If the knitting has an elastic pattern or elastic yarn, then this rule also applies. If done in stocking stitch, then 1 cm must be subtracted from the value of the circumference of the arm.
  • before you start knitting gloves, like any other product, you need to measure the required circumference, length and width. Count the loops so that the gloves are exactly the right size.
  • as shown in the figure, it is necessary to measure the circumference of the hand just above the thumb. Next, you need the height from the beginning of the brush to the beginning of the thumb, then measure from the beginning of the little finger to the base of the index finger.
  • the number of first loops can be calculated by the formula: the knitting density, which is calculated horizontally or the number of loops in one centimeter of the product, is multiplied by the arm circumference.
  • knitting is allowed either from the bottom up, or in the fingers. Now you know a couple of tips on how to knit gloves with knitting needles. Let's take a look at these two ways in a little more detail on how to knit gloves with knitting needles.

We knit children's gloves with 5 knitting needles from fingers

How to knit beautiful gloves with knitting needles

If you are just starting to knit, then you need to start with small items. Therefore, in this case, it is best to try knitting children's gloves with knitting needles. Therefore, it is worth looking at how to knit children's gloves with knitting needles, at the stages and secrets. The circumference of the handle will be 13 cm:

  • we collect six loops for each of their four fingers, not counting the thumb. Next, knit like this:
  • loops need to be thrown over three knitting needles, two pieces each and knit the fabric in a circle using the front surface. The second row is knitted from each loop, two facial ones, so that the number of loops is doubled. Next, we knit a finger to the required size according to the pattern that you have chosen. For the little finger, you need to knit 36 mm in height, and for the ring and middle fingers, 0.5 cm each, 45 mm for the index finger. After you knit each finger, except for the little finger, the loops need to be thrown onto pins or auxiliary knitting needles. All this is done so that they do not bloom. Next, the thread can be torn off and sewn up with fingers.
  • when you have knitted all the details, then the finger loops need to be thrown over 4 knitting needles, so that there is a certain order. As a result, a pair of fingers should come out on two knitting needles, which are located on both sides of the product.
  • The next step starts by knitting the little finger where you stopped the working thread. You need to knit with the front stitch, while knitting the last couple of little finger loops together. Next, the first 2 loops of the half of the ring finger must be knitted together. Next, a simple fabric is knitted. In the same way, you need to knit all the loops of the fingers in a circle. In this case, you need to decrease first at the end, and then at the beginning of the halves of the finger.
  • then you should continue knitting in a circle until the glove reaches the beginning of the thumb.
  • the thumb must be knitted separately on three knitting needles and also start with six loops, and then add 12 loops each. The product of the finger itself must be knitted to a height of 30 mm, and after that, two times in a row, it is necessary to add one loop on both sides of the finger.
  • after you have tied your finger, you need to attach it to the glove itself, while tying the canvas in a circle, grabbing the finger loops. And do not forget to make a decrease at the beginning and end of each half of the finger. The next row has a decrease of 4 loops, two on each side.
  • then the first loop of the thumb is knitted together with the last loop of the palm product and, on the other hand, the last loop of the thumb is knitted together with the upper side of the glove product. In this way, it is necessary to make decreases until the number of loops becomes equal to the number that was before the thumb was attached.
  • The last step is to knit the beginning of the glove with a 1x1 or 2x2 rib pattern until you reach the desired height. After that, we can assume that the first glove is ready.
  • the second glove must be knitted according to the same principle, but only adhere to the mirror image of the location of the fingers.

This can be used for men's and women's gloves. To do this, you only need to choose the right size and choose the appropriate pattern.

We knit women's gloves from the bottom up, from the cuff to the fingers

For the left hand at the end of the row with the fourth knitting needle, and for the right hand at the beginning. Let's start with the right hand. You need to make at the beginning of the row on the first knitting needle. Then knit one loop and yarn over again, but knit the remaining loops in stocking stitch. Next, we begin to perform additions in every fourth row, and you also need to double crochet at the beginning of the row, but after that we knit 3, and then in the next additional row 5 loops. And so on, while adding two loops each time. And then we make a new crochet and continue to knit in a circle. The additions must be made before the beginning of the thumb, or when the height of the glove is 6 cm. Further, those loops that you added to the wedge must be thrown over two pins. 7 is thrown at the first, and 6 at the second. Next, you need to get 6 loops on the fifth knitting needle, which are added to the product when the process of tying a new row of gloves in a circle takes place. Further, in each row, new loops need to be reduced two by two, by tying at the beginning and end of the row, 2 loops together. This must be done until there is only one loop left of them. The next step is to tie the glove to the beginning of the little finger. That is three more rows. Next, you need to divide the fabric of the product into the appropriate parts for all the remaining fingers. It turns out that you need 8 shares for the back and outside of the fingers. In this example, there are 13 loops for each finger. But since the circumference for each finger is slightly different, it is necessary to transfer the loops for each finger to the pins and distribute their number as follows: you need to select 13 loops on the little finger and middle finger, 11 on the ring finger, and 15 on the index finger. Next, you need to knit each finger separately. You can start with the index. To do this, you need to arrange the loops that you left on the knitting of the finger on the stocking needles in this way. Knit 4 stitches first and slip them over to the first needle. Then you need to knit the second loop and knit 3 loops on it. Then add another one to them. On the third knitting needle you need to throw two new loops, then knit three more on it. And those 5 that remain must be tied up on the next knitting needle. The fabric for the finger must be knitted in a circle until the very moment when the nail begins. Then it should be rounded off with the help of decreases at the beginning of the row on 1 and 3 knitting needles, and at the end on 2 and 4. It is necessary to continue knitting until there are six loops left on the knitting needles, which are then knitted together.
  3. the rest of the fingers must be knitted in the same way. Only for the middle finger on the knitting needles there should be three times five loops and one time four. For the nameless one, it turns out three times 4 and 1 time 5, for the little finger there should be 4 loops on the knitting needles.
  4. for the thumb, you need to distribute the loops as follows. All loops from the pin must be transferred to the auxiliary knitting needle. Next, on 1 and 2 stocking needles, you need to knit 5 loops each. The last three loops must be knitted with the following stocking needle and 2 new loops must be added to them, which are knitted from the edge of the hole for the thumb. For the last knitting needle, you need to knit five loops from the main fabric as well. Further, the process becomes similar.
  5. the second glove is knitted in the same way, but at the beginning you need to correct some points. After all, two gloves are a mirror image of each other.

In this video you will see how to knit gloves for girls.

How to knit fingerless gloves

How to knit gloves with fingerless needles

Nowadays, you can often see, especially on young people, fingerless gloves. After all, they perfectly complement the wardrobe. Linking this unusual model can be much easier than its progenitor. Since in this model you do not need to be able to knit fingers. So, how can you knit fingerless gloves yourself?

You can knit such gloves in the way described in the second article. You need to start with the cuff, and in those places where the fingers begin, you just need to close the loops. When the product is ready, then along the edges of the beginning of the fingers you can crochet the connecting posts.

Gloves without fingers can also be called - mitts. The video below can more clearly tell you about the knitting of these gloves.

Mitts are comfortable fingerless gloves or mittens that go well with almost any style of clothing: from classic to streetwear. There are many models of mitts, among them a special type can be distinguished - knitted mitts. We will talk about them in more detail in this article.

Knitted mitts are beautiful and comfortable products with an interesting texture, which, depending on the season, delight their owners with interesting patterns or openwork, complete freedom of movement and warming warmth. They are long and short, openwork or dense, with many beautiful motifs or made with simple patterns. Knitting these beautiful and comfortable products is quite quick and easy. Well, the most difficult task in this matter is to choose from dozens of beautiful schemes exactly the one that you like the most.

Schemes and description of knitting mittens with knitting needles

To understand in more detail the specifics of knitting mitts with knitting needles, we will consider different ways of working on them, and we will apply several schemes and descriptions for making mittens for adults and children. But first let's find out how to knit your first mittens with knitting needles- diagrams with a description for beginners will help with this.

Master class for beginners

In order to learn how to knit mittens with knitting needles for beginners, a master class in knitting mitts with knitting needles will come in handy. Consider a step-by-step version of knitting mittens with a wedge under the thumb, which are knitted on five knitting needles. It is better for beginner knitters to knit mitts for themselves first of all, so that at any time they can try on the product and, if necessary, correct the number of loops.

At the very beginning, we measure the girth of the thumb and the girth of the palm above the thumb. We consider the density of knitting and the required number of loops for the initial set according to the girth of the forearm (round the number to a multiple of four).

materials

  • yarn "Natasha" (95% wool and 5% acrylic, 250m in 100 grams);
  • knitting needles No. 2.5.

For example, the cuff is knitted on 44 loops, with the transition to 40 loops to the palm. The number of loops is adjusted according to the parameters.

Progress

On two knitting needles folded together, we collect the required number of loops in the usual way. After the 44th loop, a fixing "tail" is tied with the main thread with a knot.

Next, we knit with an elastic band 1 × 1 according to a simple pattern: 1 front, 1 purl. In order for the circular pattern to look good, and the pattern not to be distorted diagonally, we knit the front and back loops in the classic way - behind the front wall.

Having knitted 11 loops, we leave this knitting needle and take another. We knit 11 more loops. Thus, when we reach the end of the row, we will have 4 occupied knitting needles, each of which has 11 loops. And the fifth spoke is free, working.

The numbering of the knitting needles is made starting from the one on which we knitted the loops first. It’s easy to recognize it - there was a “tail” of the thread from a set of loops.

The arrangement of spokes No. 1,2,3,4.

We knit with an elastic band 1x1 to a height of about 5 cm. At the junction of the first and last (No. 4) knitting needles, an ugly place is obtained (photo 1). It is masked with a hook and thread from the "tail" from a set of loops, which is stored at the very beginning after tying. This is how this area looks after masking (photo 2).

When we knit in a circle, we see the front side of the thing in front of us and we can quite easily follow the pattern. After 5 cm of gum, we need to go to the main drawing and reduce the number of loops to forty.

On the needles No. 1 and No. 2, we will have the upper part of the mitt, and on the needles No. 3 and No. 4 - the bottom. The lower one, the one that falls on the back of the hand, we knit only with the front ones. And for the top, you can take a simple “double rice” pattern.

The first row after the elastic on the knitting needles is knitted only with the front ones, moreover, the last 2 loops on each knitting needle are knitted together. Thus, the number of loops is reduced to forty, and there are now 10 loops on the needles.

Further on the knitting needle No. 1, 2 front ones are knitted in a row - this is a reserve for the future “wedge”. The drawing itself is also an alternation of “1 front - 1 purl”, but with an offset along the rows. Two rows - loops above each other, then a row: above the front - purl, above the purl - front. A row - again according to the drawing above each other, and again an offset.

Knitted 3-4 rows, and proceed to the "wedge". Its base is the second loop on the needle number 1. In the row where we start the increase, we knit the first loop, we make a crochet, we knit the second, and one more crochet.

Designations on the photo: 1 - "base of the wedge"; 2 - nakida to the right and left of it.

- the type of crochets used below. They should be such that when knitting in the next row, a hole does not form in their place. Since we knit with facial classic, the yarn will look like the one shown in the picture.

Then we knit according to the pattern. On the next row, we knit the yarns with facial ones, on the first knitting needle now there are two more loops. One more row according to the picture, and then again an addition - on the first knitting needle we knit the first loop, then yarn over, we knit three loops (those that were formed during the first increase + the one that underlies the “wedge”) and another yarn over.

This is a general scheme for knitting a "wedge". All the loops of the "wedge" here are facial. We always add through an equal number of rows. After another two rows, there will be 5 loops between the crochets, then - 7 loops. We will stop there, because 16 loops are enough for the thumb. 7 stitches + 2 yarn over = 9 stitches. We will then pick up the remaining 7 from the knitting edges (photo 1).

We knit the first loop of knitting needle No. 1, which is not included in our increases. By the way, we started the “wedge” from the second loop so that there would not be a hole from the stretched loops between the knitting needles No. 1 and No. 4. Then we remove 9 loops included in the “wedge” on the pin, and on the working knitting needle, on which one knitted loop hangs, we add 4 loops with crochets (photo 2).

It is 4 loops, because you need to add half of the ones taken off, round down.
Nakida in this case is best done with the help of air loops, as in the figure. Then we knit according to the pattern, we knit the yarns with facial ones (photo 1).

And in the next row we knit these loops two together. It was 4, it became 2. And in total, after removing the “wedge” on the pin, we had 10 - 1 (the base of the “wedge”) + 4 = 13. After knitting the loops over the pin together: 13 - 2 = 11. So, in the next row, approximately in the same place, you need to knit 2 more loops as one to return to the 10 original loops.
We knit further and try on. Again we pass to an elastic band (photo 2).

On the mitts, the loops can be closed with a pigtail. We returned after the next row to the needle number 1. We knit the first loop (we have it on the front). We also knit the second, wrong side, and then stretch it under the first. The first lies on top, and the second remains on the working needle. And so on in the drawing. The edge is beautiful.

We cut the thread with a margin and fasten it with a hook. We return to our thumb. We already have one part - this is 9 loops on a pin. Along the edges of the hole for the finger, we evenly collect 7 more loops - a total of 16. The "tail" from this set should remain inside the mitt. You can immediately fasten it between already connected loops, or you can first knit a row of fingers to understand where the gaps are. It is very convenient to close them with this “tail”. We distribute the loops by 4 on the same 4 knitting needles and knit with facial ones. 5-6 rows are enough (photo 1). Then we switch to a 1x1 elastic band, knit several rows, and close it in the same way as the main part (photo 2). The mitt is ready.

The right mitt will differ from the left one in that the upper part will fall on the knitting needles No. 3 and No. 4 and the penultimate loop on the knitting needle No. 4 will be the basis of the “wedge”.

openwork pattern

Knit in a circle with knitting needles No. 3.5 according to the scheme. The diagram shows only even (respectively, persons) rows. In odd rows, knit stitches and yarn overs. In the purl rows, purl the loops and crochets.

Row sequence

Run 2 times from the 1st to the 8th p., 1 time from the 9th to the 46th p. and 3 times from the 47th to the 54th p.

In rows 1 to 8 and from 47 to 54, start with loops before rapport 1, repeat rapport 1, end with loops after rapport 1.

In rows 9 to 46, repeat rapport 2.

Knitting density

24 p. x 38 p. \u003d 10 x 10 cm, knitted with an openwork pattern on knitting needles No. 3.5.

Important make sure that the density of your knitting corresponds to the given one (if necessary, change the number of knitting needles).

Progress

On knitting needles No. 3.5, freely dial in 2 threads (take one end of the thread from the outside, the other from the inside of the ball) 48 sts. Distribute the loops into 4 knitting needles (12 sts each) and close into a ring. 2 p. knit with a double thread.

Continue the work with a single thread with an openwork pattern, performing the rows in the indicated sequence.

In the 36th p. divide the main loop pattern for the thumb hole between the 1st and 4th knitting needles. Here on both sides add 1 chrome. and knit, continuing the pattern, in rows in the forward and reverse directions.

Run from the 37th to the 54th p. and added chrome. close loops.

How to knit baby mitts

Lesson step by step "how to knit men's mittens"

Men's mitts are also very popular, and will always come in handy - because they greatly facilitate access to any little things at hand. Consider a simple and affordable way to knit men's mitts with knitting needles. In this case, they are knitted with an elastic band, therefore they are universal in size, as well as in taste preferences, since they look rather strict and conservative.

materials

  • yarn Alize CASHMIRA - 60-70 g (100% wool, 100 g / 300 m);
  • stocking knitting needles No. 2.75 (or No. 2.5);
  • stocking knitting needles number 3.

The number of loops corresponds to the male hand in the circumference of the base of the fingers 19-21 cm.

Progress

On knitting needles No. 2.75, cast on 60 loops, distribute on 4 knitting needles and knit with an elastic band 2 × 2 for 12 rows.

Change to needles number 3 and continue to knit another 35 rows.

On 1 knitting needle, transfer 10 loops to the pin for the future finger.

Cast on 6 sts on next row over slipped sts. (by removing 4 loops, we make the hole for the fingers narrower than the base of the palm, where the thumb begins).

Continue knitting with an elastic band for another 15 rows.

Switch to needles No. 2.75 and knit another 12 rows. Close loops.

Cast on the remaining 10 finger sts on needles No. 2.75, plus 14 more sts.

Knit in 2x2 rib for 14 rows.
