Coat toys. Patterns of fabric toys for beginners and experienced craftswomen. A bouquet of soft toys: manufacturing technology with a photo

DIY toys: simple master classes, the best patterns, interesting ideas.

As the great Coco Chanel said, “Handmade things are a luxury. It is not necessary for everyone to have them. Anyone who wants to have them makes them himself or pays the master for his work.

Soft toy is the first association of plush baby bear. But there is much more to the concept of a soft toy. This is an interior toy Tilda, and funny toys in a car, and much more. This article contains a variety of types of soft toys, as well as techniques for their implementation and step-by-step master classes.

DIY soft toys

Such toys can be divided into several subspecies: for children and adults, interior toys, with practical use (for example, needle beds).

Also, toys can be divided according to the type of material used: fur, from cotton or linen fabrics, from felt, from fantasy fabrics.

Folk toys, as well as soft toys made in national needlework techniques, have regained particular popularity.

DIY soft fur toy

A fur toy created by one's own hands is especially warm and beautiful. For its tailoring, you can use both natural and artificial fur. Of course, it is much easier to work with artificial fur, but if you decide to sew a toy from natural fur, you will get a unique author's toy! First you need to decide on the pattern of the toy, the larger the finished product, the easier it will be to work. Small details are especially difficult for beginners.

Circle the details and cut out with a margin of 0.5 cm per seam. Unlike fabric, it is best not to use scissors when working with fur. If you don't have a special tailor's knife, use a sharp utility knife. Cut with sharp short strokes, do not drive the knife deep so as not to cut off the fur.

To sew the fur, it is necessary to apply two front sides to each other and straighten the fur outward. After sewing the toy, it is necessary to leave a small hole through which the toy is turned inside out and stuffed with filler. Previously, toys were stuffed with cotton wool, pieces of leftover fabric.

But such stuffing dries for a very long time when washing, and often after cleaning the toy was thrown away only because the stuffing did not dry out and mold appeared inside. Modern fillers are made of synthetic materials (synthetic winterizer and others), which dry quickly and well, do not stray and retain their shape. Having stuffed, it remains to sew with a hidden seam.

The final touch is the eyes, nose and mouth. You can embroider yourself, or you can buy ready-made accessories in the store.

DIY soft toy made of felt

Today, felt toys are the most popular at children's master classes and needlework circles. But they appeared not so long ago, and there is even an exact date of their appearance.

Margaret Steiff and her first dolls

Enterprising German woman Margarethe Steiff came up with the idea in a housewife magazine to sew a soft toy with her own hands from felt. In the magazine, absolutely free of charge, Margaret published a pattern and a detailed master class. But in the note she said where exactly you can buy felt for such toys.

Such a move in 1879 made it possible to establish a toy empire in just a few years. The nuance was that the toys were both sewn at the factory, and they sold blanks for toys that could be sewn on their own. She left the empire to her children and grandchildren, and gave the world fashion for a soft toy.

For work you will need: brown, white and black felt, scissors, a needle and thread, beads or eyes for toys and a hot glue gun.

We print out the pattern, cut and sew each piece step by step.

Depending on the type of seam, you can create completely different textures of the toy.

If the parts are glued together, the toy can only be cleaned in a dry way. When wet, the parts will separate.

DIY soft toys made of fabric

Fabric toys appeared much earlier than felt ones. But with the advent of fur and plush toys, they were unfairly forgotten for some time. With the advent of plastic, even children's toys made of fabric fell out of use. But today, with a new wave of popularity for handmade, the popularity of a fabric toy has been revived again. The most popular interior toy today is Tilda.

When looking at the Tilda doll, one gets the feeling that the roots of this toy go far back to the Middle Ages. Not at all. The appearance of Tilda was in the 90s of the last century by a young designer Tony Finnanger. The girl was full of ideas and one of the many ideas was Tilda. Today, without it, it is impossible to imagine a gentle, homely interior. And craftswomen from all over the world are simply in love with Tony's idea and create prototypes to their taste.

DIY soft toy "Owl"

The image of an owl is very popular today: from various accessories to prints on clothes. Also, this interesting bird has won success in the world of toys, differing from others in its symbolic meaning and mystery.

An owl as a gift is a symbol of respect for a person, intelligence and success. All these symbols of the toy can also be diluted with a cheerful appearance that will delight the owner.

Stiff materials (such as felt) are best suited for a toy owl, as they are characterized by good shape retention, cheerful colors and give the appearance of a voluminous toy.

Required materials:

  1. Cardboard or thick paper
  2. Textile
  3. Stuffing material
  4. Multi-colored threads, needle
  5. Material for the eyes (your choice - buttons, multi-colored felt or beads)
  6. Scissors

Manufacturing process:

  • First you need to prepare a pattern on paper according to a given pattern.

  • We apply the fabric to the pattern and cut out the necessary details. All parts, except for the bottom, are sewn together. As a result, we should get a figure resembling a cone in shape.
  • We separate the top of the resulting figure with a pin (about a quarter of the total size).

  • Everything that is not separated by a pin is filled with the material chosen for stuffing and sewn along the edges.
  • We sew the end of the not yet connected corner to the finished part (body) of the toy. This will serve as the head and beak.

  • You can embellish an owl for every taste. One of the options - focusing on the finished pattern, cut off a circle slightly smaller than the bottom of the toy. We process it with some kind of hard material and sew toys to the bottom. This will serve as a stand.
  • Eyes can be bought both ready-made and cut out of felt. For the eyes, we cut out white circles from felt corresponding to the size of the head (the color of the eyes can also be done as desired). As pupils, you can use the same black felt, beads or buttons. You can add an owl with various accessories for the desired image: bows, buttons, butterflies and more.

We offer you patterns of another version of the owl:

How to sew a toy with your own hands, without experience and sewing skills

It is better to start with simple toys, this practically guarantees the success of the undertaking.

In this video tutorial, you will learn how to make a funny owl out of just a child's sock.

Knowledge needed to create soft toys with your own hands

To create a toy with your own hands, you need to correctly choose the fabric, filler and accessories.

This section will be especially useful for those who want to figure out how to sew toys with their own hands, but do not have a suitable education and the required knowledge.

Textile -we sew toys with our own hands with knowledge of the matter!

For beginners, it is best to use shreds from things that have long since become obsolete for sewing soft toys. For example, long-used clothes that usually take up space in the closet. It makes very interesting soft toys!

At the same time, you can not only save money, but also give old things a second life. Especially if these are the things of your grown-up crumbs!

However, if we are talking about creating soft toys for sale, then we still recommend going to the store for the material.

Before buying any fabric, be sure to familiarize yourself with its properties in order to clearly understand what you need. And do not violate the rules of operation, such as washing conditions.

Next, consider the most common types of fabrics, their advantages and disadvantages, for which toys they are suitable. Since it is very important not only to know how to sew a toy with your own hands, but also what it can be sewn from and what not! After all, incorrectly selected material will soon make itself felt, and the toy will quickly lose its original qualities.

For example, if the ears of a Cheburashka or a bunny do not keep their shape at all, then even a child will notice this over time.

Types of fabrics and their features - what is better to choose for toys

Finishing material and decor are very important little things!

A full-fledged soft toy should have decorative elements. For example, claws, eyes and nose of an animal, buttons in a doll's clothes. For such a finish, lace, scraps of leather, fur, buttons, beads, beads and bright ribbons are perfect. They will help in creating the eyes, smile, nose and ears.

Filler - the safety of the child first of all!

Usually, when choosing a fabric, they are guided by the budget, the type of future toy and the personal preferences of its owner. The choice of filler requires a different approach! Here, first of all, you need to focus on the age of the future user. For example, toys filled with calcined buckwheat are strictly prohibited for babies (usually it is used as a weighting agent for various parts in soft toys), since a child can accidentally tear a toy, inhale or taste a small filler and choke.

Types of fillers for soft toys and conditions for their use

An example of the meaning of the filler in a toy for babies:

Tools for sewing soft toys

The speed of work and the amount of waste depend on the quality of the tools!

To work, you will need the following tools:

  • needles of different sizes;
  • awl (for piercing durable elements such as leather);
  • small scissors (preferably with rounded ends for cutting circles);
  • ordinary scissors;
  • needle punch (for people with poor eyesight);
  • threads of various thicknesses and colors;
  • centimeter.

To transfer the pattern of toys to the fabric, chalk or soap is most often used. But there are separate tools for this, they will definitely come in handy if you need to sew toys in large quantities.

Where can I find patterns for soft toys?

If a novice craftswoman has a rich imagination and has drawing skills, then a pattern for a toy created by her own hands can be made independently, without resorting to third-party sources.

We warn you that this is a very time-consuming process that does not always work out the first time.

Consider where you can find the right pattern and recommendations on how to sew a toy?

The Internet is the most indispensable and popular source

Obviously, the World Wide Web is the most popular source of patterns and master classes and photos of finished toys made by oneself.

In special magazines or publications

In them you can find rare patterns that they did not consider it necessary to publish on the Internet.

In various issues you can find the most interesting and rare patterns of toys.

Pattern magazines are more difficult to find than books, but rare patterns are more common in them! If you want to save money, then you should look at flea markets. Patterns of toys are not influenced by fashion trends, so the year of publication of a magazine or book is of no fundamental importance.

Old toy - the second life of a childhood friend

A slightly strange method of obtaining a pattern is to cut open your favorite toy of your childhood, which has long lost its original beauty, and transfer the pattern of the same soft toy to a new fabric.

Old stuffed toys can give the rarest patterns that might not even be published anywhere!

Ready-made sewing kits - a one-stop solution for beginners that saves time and money

Ready-made kits are sold in special stores for needlewomen. They usually include:

  • fabric with a printed pattern of a soft toy;
  • needles;
  • decorative elements;
  • filler;
  • yarn to create hair, if required for this soft toy.

Such a set usually contains everything you need to create a product. If other components are required, this will be specified in the instructions and indicated on the box with the kit. The whole process of creating a toy takes place according to the attached instructions.

Soft Valentine's toy Teddy Bear - master class

Being creative is very pleasant, and sewing toys is doubly pleasant! After all, they reflect the soul of the master, they return us to childhood, and they are created, as a rule, for the most relatives and loved ones.

Moreover, handmade toys are unique and safe for children. Therefore, you should definitely try to sew a soft friend for yourself or your children. And we wish you success and inspiration!

Every mother knows that her child should have their own soft friends - toys. Child psychologists also insist on this: a child who is three years old should have at his disposal toys made of various materials that he can “explore” and “feel” during the game. Today, the assortment of toys for children, presented in stores and on the market, makes it possible to choose toys to your taste and budget - from traditional teddy bears to heroes of modern animated films. However, a toy sewn by mother's hands will be especially warm and unique. And older kids can be completely lured to participate in this exciting undertaking. The initial data, namely do-it-yourself patterns of soft toys, can be found in any needlework magazine, an abundance of such information is located today on the Internet. As a last resort, you can “open” an old shabby bear and see firsthand what was done and how to get a finished toy.

If you decide to act independently from beginning to end, then your own design beginnings and fantasy will be embodied in your toy. Having bought a ready-made kit for making toys in a store, you will have to clearly and relentlessly follow the attached instructions. We still advise you to stick to independence and be creative to the fullest. Be sure to involve children in the lesson, but do not forget about their safety: do not let them near needles, scissors and sewing machines without supervision.

Joint needlework is very useful for children, because it disciplines well, promotes the development of motor skills, trains attention and cultivates perseverance. Try to encourage dad to do this as well, because working together perfectly unites the family. And besides, who, if not dad, is better than others to be able to wield wire and pliers?

The process of creating a soft toy includes several stages, such as the selection of materials and their preparation for processing (washing, steaming), cutting the parts together, basting, final firmware, stuffing and designing the final appearance of the toy.
Do-it-yourself patterns of soft toys are best made from hard materials, such as cardboard, since they are more convenient to work with (tighter and easier to circle) and durable than, for example, tracing paper patterns. The resulting pattern should be attached to the wrong side of the material and outlined with a pen if the fabric is dark, or with a white pencil if it is light. Avoid using chalk, as it can distort the dimensions of the details.

Neat toys made with your own hands conceal a special thrill and warmth of a person who put his soul into them. Therefore, if you want to give your child joy and a piece of your warmth even in your absence, make hand-made gifts for your kids.
