When is celebrated

Day of Agricultural Workers is celebrated annually on the third Sunday of November. In 2019, the celebrations take place on November 17. In Ukraine, the date was established by the Decree of the President L.M. Kravchuk No. 428/93 of October 7, 1993. In Belarus, the event was fixed by Decree of the head of state A. Lukashenko No. 454 "On the establishment of a holiday - the Day of workers in agriculture and the processing industry of the agro-industrial complex" of November 10, 1995 (again by Decree No. 157 "On public holidays, holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus dated 26.03.1998).

Who is celebrating

The holiday is celebrated by grain growers, machine operators, livestock breeders and all those who are related to agriculture, agricultural complex enterprises, food industry, processing and storage of agricultural raw materials, and so on.

history of the holiday

This event began to be celebrated during the existence of the Soviet Union. On November 1, 1988, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR No. 9724-XI “On Amending the Legislation of the USSR on Holidays and Memorable Days,” two professional holidays dedicated to meliorators and agricultural workers were combined into one and a single day of celebration was established.

In 1993, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, many countries abolished or postponed this date, but in some states, including Ukraine and Belarus, the tradition remained unchanged.

About the profession

Agriculture combines representatives of many specialties. All of them love to work on the land, invest their soul and strength to get the harvest, are not afraid of physically hard work, follow centuries-old traditions.

Agriculture in Ukraine is dominated by agriculture, and in Belarus - by animal husbandry.

Belarus covers 100% of its needs in meat, milk, eggs, almost 100% in potatoes and vegetables and, therefore, is in 1st place in these indicators. Despite the huge amount of cultivated land and the growth of animal husbandry, only 9.7% of the population is employed in this field of activity in the country. But this allows her to enter the top 5 largest exporters of dairy products.

In Belarus, for the collection of vegetable crops (beets, carrots), as in Soviet times, once a year they resort to the help of schoolchildren.

In colloquial speech, Belarusians are called bulbash (bulba - potatoes), in view of the fact that potatoes are a symbol of this state.

In 2012, an independent tasting competition "Product of the Year" was held. According to the results of the work of the tasting commission of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, the company of the Republic of Belarus JV JSC "Spartak" became the owner of the Grand Prix among confectionery products.

In the agriculture of Belarus there is no private ownership of land, everything belongs to the state.

Ukraine is one of the leaders in the export of chicken meat, and also begins to increase the growth rate in the export of pork.

You give us daily.
Let everything be easy for you
May you live well.

There is nothing better in the world
How to master this specialty.
He who works humbly in the villages,
Saves the world from hunger every day!

Gardeners, farmers, milkmaids,
Let your professions not be bright -
Being a programmer is now more profitable,
But your work is more necessary and more noble.

Let your troops not thin out,
And they grow, on the contrary, and get fat.
Let everyone honor and respect your work,
And the government provides finance.

For your work, for the results
Thank you country
You are a lot to feed the people,
We are always full with you.

I wish you good health,
Blessings of fate
To breathe freely in the field,
For labor to bear fruit!

Every year on the third Sunday of November, Belarus celebrates a professional holiday - the Day of Agricultural and Processing Industry Workers of the Agro-Industrial Complex (AIC), established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus on November 10, 1995.

On this Day, congratulations are received by all workers in these industries, whose hard work and professionalism ensure the food security of the country and the standard of living of the people. The achievements of the agro-industrial complex are the merit of both ordinary workers who cultivate the land and grow bread, vegetables and fruits, produce milk and meat, food products, “deliver” the entire harvest to the table of consumers, and specialists in this industry - managers, agricultural scientists , workers in the socio-cultural sphere in the countryside. Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the national economy in most states, including the Republic of Belarus, which has centuries-old agricultural traditions. For centuries, agriculture has been one of the main occupations of Belarusians and currently plays a significant role in the country's economy.

Today, agriculture in Belarus provides 7.5% of the country's GDP, 17.1% of investment in fixed assets, 9.7% of the population is employed in the industry, and 23% of the country's population lives in rural areas. Therefore, it is no coincidence that significant funds are allocated for the development of the agricultural sector in Belarus. The main types of agricultural products are grain, potatoes, vegetables, sugar beet and flax, milk, meat, livestock and poultry. Agricultural organizations, peasant (farm) enterprises that produce about 78% of agricultural sector products, as well as the population work in the industry. Large farms (former state farms and collective farms) dominate, receiving multibillion-dollar state support and subsidies. At the same time, most of the potatoes and vegetables are produced by private farms. Large-scale production has been and remains a priority direction for the development of the agro-industrial complex. Currently, Belarus is one of the leaders among the countries of the post-Soviet space in terms of production volumes of the main types of agricultural products. To increase the efficiency of animal husbandry, livestock breeding complexes are being re-equipped and reconstructed, and new farms are being built. I work in poultry farms and enterprises of bakery products and the meat and dairy industry. Over the past five years, labor productivity in the industry has tripled. It is fully provided with raw materials and the processing industry is intensively developing. The range of food products is expanding and their quality is improving. More than 80% of the population's needs for food products are met by domestic production. And significant amounts of food produced in the country are exported to different countries of the world.

Always the main concern of mankind has been to provide themselves, their loved ones and relatives with their daily bread, which is food products. The leading role in solving these issues is assigned to enterprises of the food and processing industry.

And the quantity and quality of products, the stability of providing vital goods to all regions and the development of the country's economy depend on the caring hands of workers in this service sector.

Story

This holiday was established during the existence of the great USSR and was widely celebrated by numerous representatives of this profession in all Union republics. After the collapse of the country of the Soviets, traditionally it continues to be celebrated in Russia and Ukraine.

Since the significance of these enterprises is great all over the world, World Food Day and related gastronomic holidays are celebrated abroad. These include:

  1. National Spaghetti Day in USA.
  2. Sunshine Coffee Day in Iceland.
  3. International Eskimo Day.
  4. World Egg Day.

These unusual celebrations are held on other calendar days and months. But they welcome (like our holiday) people who selflessly work for the benefit of others.

Traditions

Throughout the time, employees not only expand the range of products, but also improve its quality. The tireless work allows employees of the food industry to introduce innovative methods, achieve technical progress, and constantly update technological production.

On the eve of the holiday, the best workers who achieve good performance in their work are awarded with certificates and awards. At the state level, industry leaders are awarded medals and orders for special merits and professionalism.

Meetings are held in teams with reports on the work done and development prospects. Concerts dedicated to this holiday and corporate events are held. On the air of radio broadcasting and on television, time is allocated where congratulations from the management and programs dedicated to the leaders of production are posted.

The issue of the formation of food security throughout the world is acute. Conferences and meetings are held at various global venues, where methods and ways to achieve the invulnerability of countries in this field of activity are discussed. And the responsibility for solving all emerging problems in this direction lies with the workers of the food industry.
