Can embossed patterns be applied to leather at home? Leather embossing

In this article, we will talk about the history and basics of embossing technology, describe various methods for obtaining relief images on the surface of natural leather, describe the tools necessary to perform this operation, and also try to give some valuable recommendations that may be useful at various stages of manufacturing and decoration of your author's products.

What is leather stamping

Despite the fact that the processing of animal skins and dressing of natural leather are the oldest of the currently known crafts, the term "embossing", like the technology itself, appeared several millennia after people confidently mastered various methods of harvesting skins and began to widely use them in everyday life. Perhaps the oldest surviving evidence of the use of this technology can be considered fossil pottery, on which the first representatives of the pottery put their mark with the help of simple stamps. Most of these dishes date back to the period of 4,500 - 4,400 BC, however, in some regions of our planet, fragments of primitive pottery were found, which ancient people used as far back as 10,000 BC.

In the future, the embossing technology received a natural development and began to be used more widely, in particular, for printing various ornaments on fabric: the master first cut out a certain pattern on a wooden cliché, covered it with dyes, and then transferred the image to the fabric under pressure. Subsequently, already in the late Middle Ages, the method of transferring an image from a dye-covered cliché to paper, together with the development of the art of fine metalworking, laid the foundations for the production of engravings, and, as a result, became the founders of mass book printing.

Turning directly to embossing on leather, first we will try to give the most capacious and meaningful definition of this technology: embossing or stamping is a partial or complete processing of the surface of natural leather using pressure exerted by various specialized tools using the carving technique, or without it. Embossing can be carried out in industrial production to give the correct texture to semi-finished and corrected leather, to create an imitation of the texture of the skin of exotic animals, or applied to the skin manually using various stamps, prints and clichés. It is in this way that various relief patterns, drawings, logos and inscriptions are applied to the surface of genuine leather products in home studios and small-scale workshops.

In artistic terms, hand embossing on leather gives the master almost unlimited creative freedom and provides an endless variety of options for exclusive design of products due to the fact that the necessary stamps and clichés can be purchased in specialized stores, ordered from experienced craftsmen, or made independently. Since manual embossing on leather is a rather painstaking, time-consuming and responsible process, in order to develop a skill and obtain a stable result, you will have to be patient, have a high-quality tool, as well as leather of a certain dressing, designed specifically for embossing or well suited for this technological operation.

Leather stamping tools

Here is a list of tools that are necessary and in most cases sufficient for embossing leather:

Sets of various stamps, prints and cliches - purchased in specialized stores, made independently or to order;

Rotary knife with interchangeable nozzles of various sizes and shapes - a tool for cutting out images on the surface of the skin. Used in more advanced embossing techniques using leather carving techniques;

A handy hammer that does not damage the dies and has minimal impact when hitting - special nylon hammers that are widely used in the leather business have these qualities;

Plastic or wooden styluses for squeezing out the contours of images on the surface of the skin;

Wheel markers for marking the skin and drawing relief lines on the treated surface;

Sets of needle files with different profiles for making, finishing and adjusting stamps;

A flat wooden base that will serve as a substrate for the treated leather when embossing;

Soft sponge for wetting the leather in order to soften it immediately before embossing;

Useful little things, which include all kinds of stencils with images of plants, animals, ethnic ornaments and popular symbols.

Genuine leather for embossing

You will also need to stock up on some vegetable tanned leather, a special type of natural leather designed specifically for embossing, stamping and carving. Thanks to a specific dressing technology, the artistic relief given to such leather will not straighten out over time, will not smooth out and will not lose its liveliness.

By and large, embossing can be applied to almost any natural leather, however, not every type of leather and stamping method can ensure the stability of the relief for a sufficiently long time. For example, a shallow or loose embossing applied to chrome-tanned leather can "float" over time.

If you do not have enough experience, then in the process of learning this technique, you yourself will be able to experimentally understand which leather is best for your production needs. However, to save time and effort, we still recommend that you listen to the advice of experienced craftsmen in choosing genuine leather that can ensure high quality and durability of embossing.

Leather Embossing Methods

All types, methods and methods of embossing genuine leather can be divided into two main categories - cold and hot. This division is dictated not only by the difference in the working temperature of the dies, but also by the differences in the results obtained.

Cold stamping is usually used in cases where a simple pattern, inscription or a simple stamp needs to be applied to smooth leather. For cold stamping, leathers with a thickness of 0.8 to 1.2 mm are suitable. However, the thickness of the material with this method is not of decisive importance, since the determining factor is the individual ability of the skin to keep the resulting relief without additional heat treatment.

Hot embossing is based on the ability of the leather to receive and retain a stable impression after pressing on it with a metal stamp heated to a temperature of 60-140°C. When performing hot stamping at home, the optimal degree of heating of the stamp is usually determined experimentally for each individual type of leather. At the same time, it is most convenient to make the most accurate measurements of the temperature of the working surface of the stamp using a special non-contact thermometer - a pyrometer. For hot stamping, leather with a thickness of 1.2-1.4mm is suitable.

In terms of technology, the application of relief images on the surface of natural leather can be divided into four types:

Blind (blind) embossing is used in cases where it is necessary to obtain an impression with a smooth structure on the skin. It is carried out as follows: a stamp is placed on a flat area of \u200b\u200bthe skin perpendicular to the surface, and then it is hit with a hammer. If a type-setting cliché is used as a stamp, then all the component parts of the image must be in the same plane. With blind embossing, the depth and clarity of the resulting print directly depend on the force of pressure on the stamp, i.e. from the force of impact on the stamp. This type of embossing can be cold or hot, but not too high temperature, as there is a risk of overheating and damage to the skin;

Foil stamping - the essence of the method is to place a thin metal foil lubricated with a wax-based adhesive between the stamp and the surface of the skin. Under the pressure of the stamp, the foil is printed into the formed relief and then seized with the skin. The depth of the relief with foil stamping is usually less than with blind stamping, however, this method allows you to get complex multi-color images and is carried out exclusively in a hot way;

Relief embossing is the application of embossed images to the surface of the skin by pressing with or without metal foil. With this technology, the skin is located between the punch and the matrix (cliche for hot stamping), and then pressed. Only thin plastic natural leather is suitable for relief stamping, and clichés are made exclusively from metal. Embossing is carried out both hot and cold;

Texturing - this embossing method is used at one of the stages of leather dressing to give the desired texture to its surface. Most often, texturing is used to treat the front surface of the corrected leather after it has been sanded, as well as to create an imitation of the texture of the skin of exotic animals on the surface of the skin of cattle. The essence of such a technological operation lies in the same pressing, however, in this case, the cliche squeezes out a uniform, shallow pattern not in a relatively small area, but on the entire surface of a piece of leather.

Performing blind embossing on leather

For example, let's take a step-by-step look at the process of cold blind embossing on leather, since this method is the most accessible for understanding and repetition. In the simplest case, the implementation of such embossing consists of the following steps:

1. First of all, you need to select and prepare a piece of genuine leather of a suitable size and thickness. To perform high-quality embossing, vegetable, syntan or chrome-tanned leather is best suited.

2. A stamp with an embossed stamp, logo, inscription or image on a 1:1 scale is selected or made. If the image or inscription is not reversible, i.e. in a mirror image look backwards, then the image and / or inscription on the stamp must be mirrored with respect to the vertical axis passing along the edge of the original image and / or inscription. In the case of reversible images and inscriptions, symmetrical about the vertical axis passing through their center, the imprint on the stamp is made and transferred as is.

3. When using vegetable tanned leather, the entire surface of the piece (and not just the place of future embossing) is thoroughly moistened with clean warm water using a sponge. It is important to evenly moisturize the entire surface of the skin to avoid water smudges after it dries. It usually takes at least half an hour for the leather to soften and become suitable for embossing, but this time period may vary for leather of different dressing and thickness. It is also extremely important not to soak the skin too much, otherwise, instead of a neat embossed print, you will get something shapeless and extremely unaesthetic. The volume of water should be such that it still continues to be absorbed, but the skin does not have time to dry out. As soon as the first signs appear that the skin has stopped actively absorbing water, the moisturizing process must be stopped.

4. The stamp and hammer are located in a convenient place for quick access, the skin is placed on a flat hard surface, and a substrate made of wood or dense rubber is placed under the skin.

5. When the leather begins to gradually return to its original color and becomes cool to the touch, it is ready for embossing. A sign of skin readiness is also its dried facial layer. From this point on, the skin softened sufficiently, and the optimal amount of moisture remained in its internal fibers to start the stamping process.

6. The stamp is placed strictly perpendicular to the surface of the skin and securely fixed, and then an accurate single blow is applied to it with a hammer. It must be remembered that in this case the depth and clarity of the resulting print directly depend on the strength and accuracy of hitting the stamp, as well as on the degree of softness of the skin. As a rule, soft leathers can be embossed to the desired depth with the first blow. Harder or thicker leathers can be embossed in multiple passes. However, regardless of the thickness and density of the skin, as a result, we should get a clear relief impression of uniform depth over the entire image area.

7. After the desired impression is obtained, the skin is wiped and dried in natural conditions until completely dry.

As an additional, but not at all necessary, finishing touch, the finished relief image can be "revitalized" with the help of dyes suitable for the selected skin type. In this case, after the final drying of the dye, the resulting pattern is fixed with special fixative compounds, and then carefully polished with a soft cloth or wool felt.

It is also worth mentioning that in order to apply convex images to the front surface of thin leather, its embossing should be carried out from the bahtar side, however, the process of obtaining such images is associated with certain nuances: firstly, a stamp with an image must always be prepared in direct, not mirror display, and secondly, after embossing, the resulting relief should be smeared with PVA glue from the wrong side and, if necessary, glued under it a substrate from a piece of leather. However, if you want to get a truly high-quality and durable convex print on the surface of the skin, then you should use not manual, but relief stamping on a press.

Where can I find more leather embossing materials?

Even if you cannot master the art of leather stamping as professionally and quickly as you would like, then try not to despair and in no case stop there. After you get your hands on and become quite experienced in this difficult and painstaking business, you will not only get the desire and opportunity to “revive” your own clothes, shoes and accessories, but you can always make one-piece exclusive items to order, as well as please your loved ones. loved ones with truly original personalized gifts.

Sometimes cold stamping (blint) looks much more interesting on the finished product than gold. How do we do it?

Embossing is done according to the finished "blank" (sorry for the tautology), because. if you emboss along the cut, then when sticking, some deformation of the skin will inevitably creep out, the pattern will be distorted.

The glued part (in this case, the spine of the book) is abundantly moistened (the skin is wetted from the front side).

NECESSARILY!!! Without moisture, the embossing looks "half-finished"- smeared edges, etc. Then a stamp is applied in place and clamped into a crimping press. ATTENTIVELY!!! Often the stamp is clamped unevenly(with a slight twist). This is clearly seen from the position of the press plates. This situation must be corrected immediately, otherwise the embossing will look uneven in relation to the edges of the stamp (in the photo with the crucifix, you can clearly see that the left edge is overstamped, and the right one was not clamped enough. On the first photo, the embossing is uniform, the visible difference is the result of a poor-quality photo). To avoid such excesses, make sure that the stamp is EXACTLY under the press rod. Sometimes it may be necessary to make adjustments with pieces of cardboard in order to level the press platen.

In a couple of hours, the embossing takes on its final form, the skin can be removed from the press. As a cliché, you can use completely seemingly inappropriate things - we used bag buckles, figures cut out of cardboard, etc. In the photo - the use of zinc clichés from the Soviet era.

Zinc cliches

Yes! The result directly depends on the quality of the skin. The same cliché on different skins gives different results, so this is just an empirical way... This skin is “smoothed out” under the stamp, i.e. the texture of the skin under the stamp and outside it is very different. Some skins darken under a stamp (even under a cold one), etc. Be sure to use testers before final embossing!

    It is not difficult to make embossing on the skin with your own hands. The procedure is approximately the following.

    For embossing, it is desirable to choose softer leather, it will be easier to work with such leather. So, let's say we have a leather product and a stencil for drawing a pattern.

    • spread the skin on the table. A piece of cloth should be soaked in water, squeezed well so that it does not drip, and put on the skin for 15 minutes.
    • turn the stencil over and place it on a small wooden board, press it firmly so that it does not walk.
    • Remove the cloth from the skin and wipe off any excess moisture. Cover the piece of leather to be painted with a terry towel and iron it with a hot steam iron. This will help make the skin more supple.
    • put the skin on the stencil. If there is at home, it is advisable to sprinkle a little mounting foam.
    • put a load on top and leave for 6-8 hours. After the allotted time, carefully remove the foam and stencil, I hope the result will not upset you.
  • In order to make embossing on the skin at home yourself, you will need a stamp that you will make on the skin, a hammer, or special equipment for such purposes. You will also need physical strength.

    To make embossing on the skin, you need to make a cliché (stamp). It is the imprint of the pattern on the cliché that will create the pattern on the skin.

    In industrial conditions or for small businesses, the cliche is ordered at the factory. For example, in St. Petersburg, clichés can be ordered from the Ivan Fedorov Printing House or from small companies that manufacture stamps.

    On one's own with great desire too you can make an embossing stamp.

    For a cliche, you will need a metal plate (brass, copper, magnesium are well suited).

    For example, you can make the desired pattern on a metal plate with a simple engraving. It is only important to remember that the engraving lines should be wide and deep.

    Engraving depth must be done within reasonable limits so that the stamp does not cut through the skin during embossing. The best option is about 3 millimeters.

    And most importantly - the inscription on the cliché should be in a mirror image.

    You can carve a stamp for embossing on the machine. You can engrave the desired pattern on a metal plate.

    You can purchase hand punches online here and here.

    You can even make a one-time stamp out of electric cardboard. It will only be necessary to cut out a drawing from one piece of cardboard, and then glue this piece to another larger cardboard. Like that:

    Instead of a stamp, you can use any flat metal thing with a relief pattern. A coin or even a decorative metal button is fine.

    Such a metal thing will serve us as a stamp for blind (blind) embossing. blind embossing it is an indentation in the skin.

    Also exists relief stamping, but it needs two parts of the cliché: upper and lower. Embossing is a convex three-dimensional pattern on the skin. Frankly speaking, specialists can make embossing even without a bottom substrate, but such embossing is very difficult to do at home.

    In production, leather embossing is done on a special press under high pressure. At home, of course, there is no such press. Leather can be hot or cold embossed, with or without foil. There is a special foil for stamping. Foil is used only for hot stamping. From high temperature (about 110 degrees). the foil leaves a uniform gold or colored imprint on the skin, depending on the color of the foil.

    How to make leather embossing at home. At home, we can only do blind embossing.

    You will need a stamp, you will need a piece of foil, you will need a hammer, leather, iron, tweezers or cotton gloves.

    First way:

    We stuff the embossing. Let's try it on a small piece first. Depending on the type of leather (tanning), hand embossing looks different. We heat the stamp, put it on the front side of the skin and hit the stamp handle with a hammer. It is important that the working surface of the hammer is larger than the die to evenly distribute the impact force. If you like the print, continue to fill the embossing in this way, periodically heating the stamp. If desired, you can heat the stamp harder. From a heated stamp, the top layer of the skin burns a little and a darkened pattern is obtained.

    If you don't like the print, lightly dampen the front of the leather with a damp sponge. In this case, the stamp does not need to be heated.

    Second way:

    In this case, you need a flat stamp. First, the stamp must be heated. Can be heated in a dry skillet. Then, with tweezers or gloves, put the hot stamp on the front side of the skin with tweezers or gloves, cover the skin with food foil or parchment from above and press it down with a hot iron. The quality of the print in this case depends on the heating temperature and pressure force.

    It is important to remember: under the skin in both methods of embossing, you need to put some more or less elastic material. Even regular thick cardboard will do. If you do blind embossing on a hard surface, the skin will have nowhere to be pressed in and the embossing will not work, or you will cut through the skin. Good luck!

    Almost forgot! If for some reason the hot stamp sticks to the leather (this happens due to the top coat), place thin wax paper on the leather and hot stamp it through.

    Also, the embossing pattern can be stuffed without a stamp. Follow the links to watch the video lesson and master class.

    For this process, we need a cliché for a previously prepared and even table or surface where this action will be performed. First you need to moisten the skin, spread it on the table and wait about 10-15 minutes so that more moisture leaves it, then attach the stencil so that it does not leave, you need to remove the rag from the skin, wipe the unwanted water. Next, we need a terry towel and we need to attach it to a piece of skin that is already on the stencil and iron it with a hot iron.

    Embossing on the skin can be done by yourself, only for this you need to have the necessary tool and a piece of leather.

    These tools include: a rotary knife and various stamps, a hammer.

    With the help of a rotary knife, the main elements are cut.

    With the help of stamps, a background, texture is created.

    Before the leather embossing process, e is placed on a wooden board.

    By hitting the embossing tool with a hammer, we make an embossed pattern. For soft leather, one blow with a hammer on the stamping tool is enough, for hard leather, several.

    In order to make smooth lines, you need to have a stylus.

    At the end of embossing the leather, wipe it with water and let it dry.

    Your drawing is ready.

    Embossing on leather goods you can do it yourself at home. You can make embossing on watch straps, on leather bookmarks for books, on covers and bindings of books. Thus decorated things can be a wonderful unique gift.

    In order to make embossing on the skin at home, you will need some tools:

    • stamps punches (you can buy, or you can make it yourself if you have a skill in working with metal);
    • hammer;
    • angle cutter and sharp knife-cutter;
    • tailor knurling (to make patterns);
    • canfarnik;
    • soft brush and foil (multi-colored).

    First you need to prepare all the tools for work. Stamps can be machined from steel or aluminum rods with a needle file. Images on stamps can be very different - patterns, numbers or letters. Remember that these images must be done in a mirror image so that they are subsequently properly imprinted on the skin. As a knurling, you can use, for example, sausages from unnecessary broken mechanical watches. With the help of knurling, you can decorate the skin with interesting lines and patterns. In order to punch holes in the right places on the skin, if necessary, you can use tubes of different diameters, after sharpening their edges.

    In order to do stamping without paints, berm a punch with the desired pattern and heat it over an open fire (the temperature should be about 140 degrees Celsius). Die temperature is difficult to check, so experience will have to adjust - use a test print to try out the punch.

    Now, in this way, the part of the stamp heated up in this way must be pressed against the skin (to a test piece of leather) and hit hard enough from above with a hammer. If the relief, in your opinion, is not deep enough, the stamp needs to be heated even more. If, on the contrary, the skin is singed, then the heating time of the stamp should be somewhat reduced. Over time, you will learn how to select the optimal temperature for heating the punch. Once you are satisfied with the result, you can start processing the working material.

    If you plan to make colorful embossing, then prepare specially designed multi-colored foil for this. E can be purchased at the store, or you can take a thin foil from under sweets or tea packages. Foil is used as follows: wax must be melted in a tin (paraffin is also suitable). In order for the material not to harden quickly during operation, turpentine can be added to the paraffin, and then mixed well.

    Take a soft brush and apply a thin layer of wax on the foil, after which the wax must be allowed to dry for several hours (without turpentine, the wax hardens very quickly, but with turpentine - this is the only way to apply a thin layer of wax on the foil).

    As soon as the wax on the surface of the foil has dried, tempera or watercolor paint is applied on top, which must first be mixed with tooth powder and egg white. We leave the foil to dry a little for a few minutes, and therefore it is ready for further processing.

    There is another method of preparing a solution for applying to the foil - oil paint of the desired color is simply added to the wax. For this, the paint must be mixed with still melted wax (paraffin). Stir until a completely homogeneous mass is obtained. Then, as in the first case, we use a soft brush to apply the finished paint to the foil in a thin layer.

    Now you can go directly to the embossing process. To do this, we heat our stamp-punch on fire, put foil with paint on the skin (of course, with the side down on which the paint is applied). Then we set and firmly press the well-heated stamp to the foil and hit it firmly once with a hammer. This should not be done too quickly - when you press the stamp, the paint should heat up, for this it may take a couple of seconds. It depends on the thickness of the foil and the type (quality) of the leather. The best way to learn is by trial and error.

    On the basics of embossing on leather, you can watch a video on YouTube, for example, here.

    More professional leather embossing is done with small machines as well as large presses. You can learn a little more about this by watching the following video. Here it is shown how foil stamping is done using one such machine.

    And there are more versatile small machines that are capable of embossing not only on leather, but also on paper, cardboard and even fabric (only fabric requires a certain type of special foil). Such a machine can also be purchased for the home. The machine is electric and heating, respectively, is produced in this way.

    Here are some examples of leather embossing that you can do at home.

    The method is hot, but it is produced absolutely on its own.

    Make a cliché from hard rubber, cut out the desired pattern, lay it on a hard surface with the pattern to the top, put the skin on top with the texture down. Press the iron heated to 120 degrees to the cliché. Hold for ten seconds.

    And if you paint the cliche with a permanent marker, then the embossing will turn out to be colored.

    there is also a cold method, but it requires the purchase of a stamp, and the method described above allows you to make various drawings. The only negative is that such a cliché quickly loses its validity.

    Now a very popular technique is embossing on the skin using foil. In the process of work, foil is applied to any surface of the skin and the depth of its embossing is, of course, less than with blind embossing.

    For this, both a hammer and a homemade press are used. And many embossers use even an ordinary iron for this purpose.

    And you can see all the lessons on various embossing methods here, including using foil.

    For embossing, you can make clichés from various improvised materials.

    With the help of embossing on the skin, amazing relief patterns are made.

    To make an embossing, you need to have special tools and leather.

    For embossing, the skin must be placed on a wooden board and hit with a hammer.

    Here are the types of embossing available:

    In order to make embossing on leather at home, two of the simplest methods are well suited for beginners: embossing with a press and stamping.

    1) For the first method, we need a piece of raw leather, a vise, water, a sponge and a stamp. A piece of metal with a relief pattern, such as a coin, is suitable as a stamp. You can also order stamps from the masters on Etsy.

    The skin lies on the edge of the table face up. E smooth and evenly moisturize with a sponge that is not too wet. A stamp is attached to the skin and pressed as strongly as possible with a vise to the surface of the table for 20 minutes.

    2) For stamping, we need the following things: sponge, water, leather, wooden hammer, 3-D stamps with a cylinder.

    The skin is wetted with water, and then the desired stamp is attached to its surface. A cylinder is inserted into its center, which must be hit several times with a wooden hammer.

    Raising the stamp, check the depth of the drawing. Usually, if the skin is soft, then after a little training, one hit is enough.

    Using various stamps, you can make a variety of drawings. If you cover the stamping with varnish, it will look better and last longer.

    To make embossing on the skin yourself, at home, you will need special tools to get started. The picture shows primitive tools for this technique:

    You will also need a press and tools to heat the leather, such as an iron.

    Here are some videos that will help you master this art of embossing leather and applying various interesting patterns on the yard:

    The most common embossing methods are hot and cold.

    For hot embossing, leather with a thickness of 1.2 to 3 millimeters is used and such embossing is done with metal stamps (they can be bought at the store).

    For cold embossing, thinner skin is used - from 0.8 to 1.2 millimeters.

    Cold stamping requires a matrix and a counter matrix. The skin is compressed between them.

Embossing is a special way of processing leather, in which letters and images are applied to it. It in itself is a very wear-resistant material, while retaining a spectacular pattern forever. By mastering the technique of embossing on leather, you can turn ordinary things (wallets, notebooks, bags, document covers and even clothes) into unique ones. Such products can be proudly worn by yourself or given to loved ones.

Today, few people can be surprised by products purchased to order and made by craftsmen by hand. However, not everyone dares to do this type of needlework on their own. The embossing process is quite laborious, painstaking, and requires a fair amount of skill. However, the result in the form of a unique hand-made embossed thing is worth the effort, so leather carving workshops are very popular.

To begin with, it is worth understanding what methods professionals and amateurs use in the manufacture of convex images on the skin.

There are several options for pressure:

  • hot/cold;
  • foil stamping;
  • embossing;
  • blind (blind);
  • embossing with stamps.

The latter method is usually used at home. It is the simplest and most affordable.

Cliches can be bought, ordered and even made independently from metal blanks. Metals such as copper, brass, magnesium. For embossing, it is preferable to use natural vegetable tanned leather. However, an artificial one with a special brand is also suitable for a beginner. Products with engraving on the skin with their own hands are beautiful and of high quality.

Step-by-step production of an embossed product

The four main tools for embossing leather at home include a rotary knife, stamps (clichés), a marker and a hammer. The rotary knife has various attachments and allows you to make contours. Stamps are necessary for applying backgrounds, typical elements of an ornament to a drawing. One of the types of pattern stamps on the skin is a beveller, which allows you to add volume and bulge to the outline of the pattern.

A hammer (mallet) is needed to hit the stamp in order to “push through” the pattern on the material. The marker allows you to measure equal distances between the seams and draw parallel lines.

To do it on the skin with your own hands, you should prepare:

  • a set of embossing tools;
  • scissors (sharp and heavy);
  • wooden board;
  • stylus;
  • humidifier or plain water;
  • sponge.

As soon as the necessary things appear at hand, you can begin to push the product. First, you need to cut a blank from the skin. On this part manually or using a printed on paper stencil the image is applied. Optionally, you can decorate the product with perforation along the contour. It's done hole puncher before the start of the main work.

In order for the material to become pliable, it treated with professional humidifiers but plain water will do. The product is moistened and left for 30 minutes to soften. When the material has returned to its original color and softened, you can proceed directly to embossing. Work is going on wooden plank, which is placed under the product. With help stylus the contours of the image are drawn.

Next, using cliche contours are given volume, additional ornaments, backgrounds are applied. To do this, you need to place the cliché perpendicular to the skin and hit it hammer. If it is soft, then the desired embossing depth will be obtained the first time. You may need to hit the hammer a few times.

Necessary make sure that nails do not cut into the material and foreign objects - such a defect is practically irreparable, especially for artificial leather. To test the strength of your impact, you can use an unnecessary piece of material.

After embossing, the finished product should be wiped with water and dried.

Optionally, you can cover it with professional paints - polish, antique, paint with gloss or aging effect, special finishing paint.

Production of inscriptions

First, a piece of skin should be softened wet sponge. Further stylus you need to apply the desired image. The drawing will appear as a faint impression. Then rotary knife carefully cut out the same contours of the image from all sides. If the knife cut through the workpiece, the work can be considered rejected.

To give the pattern a three-dimensional effect with a hammer along the same contour press the image with stamps with various nozzles. Finally, with a rotary knife, all defects are eliminated. At the end of the work, the drawing is covered with a special paint for the skin. When the product is dry, it is polished with a soft cloth.

Dimensions and place of application. The maximum size is 10*10 cm. The minimum size depends on the complexity of the image and the degree of detailing. When working with finished leather products, it is important for us that there is access for the press. Embossing can only be done on a flat surface without seams.

Colors. We do embossing for leather without foil. If the embossing is done on natural leather, then the details of the image will have different shades, because when passing through the press, the leather changes its color a little, so the finished print looks beautiful. There will be no such overflows on artificial leather, the color imprint completely coincides with the smooth part of the skin and stands out only in relief.

Special offers. We make leather key rings with 3D embossing - this is a practical souvenir and a good gift!

Embossed logo

Logo embossing is an economical and stylish way to brand leather goods. Making an impression is inexpensive, but it looks representative, lasts a long time, does not require special care. Embossing the logo on the skin is chosen by those companies that know how to save money, while not forgetting about important details.

With the help of embossing, the logo is usually applied to the details of the cut, from which products are sewn later - chair backs, bags, shoes. The embossing of the company logo is used to create leather tags for clothes and things. Manufacturers and studios mark their products in this way and testify to their authenticity. Especially often, such embossed tags are attached to bags, fur coats, sheepskin coats and other premium products.

The most common gift for employees in reputable firms is a diary with an embossed company logo. Such a thing emphasizes the high class of employees, their belonging to a professional enterprise.

Applying a logo using embossing is also beneficial because you pay once for the creation of a cliché, and later use the ready-made one. The prints themselves are inexpensive, especially if ordered in bulk.

We do embossing in Moscow, but you can contact us remotely and receive a finished order by Russian Post or any other postal service of your choice. We can make embossing on your materials or purchase materials for you.

Embossing on natural leather and products from it is more interesting, because under pressure, natural leather changes its shade. Volumetric embossing differs in subtle shades between the convex and compressed parts, and this is very beautiful. Embossing on artificial leather does not give such an effect, but it looks just as presentable and solid. You can make embossing on eco-leather. We make each print by hand, so we get high-quality and accurate embossing.
