What you need for quilling for beginners list. Quilling is a sophisticated hobby for noble ladies. paper quilling

Especially in the modern world, what has become valuable is what is done with soul, with fiction, the production of which was approached not formally, but selectively and creatively. An individual, piece work, in which the author's intention and his mood are read - only this stands out from the stream, pleases the eye and gives positive emotions.

Today, together with master Oksana Maslova, we will try to convey our mood through the art of paper rolling, paper-plasticity - quilling. Our master class "name letter" dedicated to mastering the basic quilling techniques and designed for those who are just beginning to explore the elegant world of "paper filigree".

What is quilling?

quilling This is the art of paper rolling. The word quilling is derived from the English word "quill" - a bird's feather. In ancient times (XIV-XV centuries), nuns twisted strips of gilded paper into spirals, laying them on the sharp tip of a bird's feather. Thus, lace compositions were created, a kind of mosaic for decorating icons. Over time, the art of quilling went beyond the walls of monasteries and acquired a secular character. Ladies from high society decorated caskets, family coats of arms with airy paper curls, framed mirrors and many other items, imitating filigree, forging, metal plate products. Now quilling has become a widely popular hobby and accessible to everyone, thanks to the simplicity of the technique, low cost and its beauty. This bright world of plastic and paper will interest not only adults, but also children, it will give them a wonderful opportunity for creativity and self-expression.

Master class "Nominal letter"

So, today our work in the quilling technique is called "Name letter". We will lay out the letter using the contour quilling technique, combining it with the basic elements - rolls. Thus, our goal is to get acquainted with the basics of quilling, to master the skills thanks to which we will be able to embody our creative ideas brightly and gracefully.

The main tools that we will use during our lesson:

  • Quilling fork (a tool for twisting paper strips). This tool is the main tool in the quilling technique. With its help, strips of paper are easily twisted into various elements, which are subsequently used to decorate our works.
  • Plastic ruler-template for quilling on a cork base. Indispensable for creating identical even elements, for collecting rolls with a shifted center, as well as for hasking (loop quilling). This is a separate branch in quilling. Pins are placed on the base and strips of paper are wrapped around them, forming loops. The element is more filigree, weightless and delicate. Looped quilling is usually used to make airy forms, for example, butterfly wings, birds, angels.
  • Cork mat. Convenient for collecting individual parts into a final element.
  • Tweezers with straight or angled nose. It will be convenient for collecting small details in the overall composition.
  • Scissors.
  • Headed pins (English) for securing elements and creating looped shapes. They also help to create a design with a displaced center (eccentric).
From the materials we will prepare:
  • Quilling paper - multi-colored strips, often packaged in kits, sold in crafting, handicraft, scrapbooking, or quilling specialty stores. As an alternative to purchased strips - double-sided colored paper, cut into strips 3, 5 or 7 mm wide.
  • Glue for paper (preferably PVA or a glue pen). The most important thing in glue is that it must be thick. In the process, it must be mixed so that it remains homogeneous and applied evenly. In our work on the name letter, it is very convenient to use a glue pen, thanks to the sharp tip of which the glue lays down in a neat thin line.
  • Colored or plain cardboard for the base, which is very important in contour quilling. You can always beat its color and texture, which will add its flavor to our work. You can choose an already tinted base or tint the desired areas according to the design of the composition. It is better to take cardboard with a slightly rough surface, not too smooth, which will ensure fast and strong adhesion, adhesion between surfaces.
  • Carbon paper (for transferring letters to the base).
Having prepared everything necessary for creativity, we select the letter that we would like to make. It can be the capital letter of your first or last name, or any other. For the contour of the letter, we select thick paper (120-160 g / m 2) with a width of 0.5 mm. The patterns inscribed in the canvas of the letter can be made from narrower (0.3 mm) and less dense stripes.

After we have decided on the letter (size, font), the color of the base and outline, we get to work.

Contour quilling - step by step instructions

  1. As accurately as possible, we draw the outline of the letter through the carbon paper onto the cardboard base. This must be done without blots, so that the work is neat and beautiful.
  2. Using a toothpick or a needle, apply glue to the end (edge) of the strip and connect the smeared edge with the outline of the letter drawn on the base. Here you need to briefly fix the strip to give the glue the opportunity to grab and dry a little. Thus, we gradually lay out the outline of our letter. This painstaking process can be facilitated by using a glue pen. Glue pen allows you to apply glue in a thin line straight to the base, and only then fix a strip of paper on it.
  3. When laying out the letter, we pay attention to the fact that all connections, joints between the stripes pass along its underside.
  4. In order to carefully lay out and glue all the corners and bends of the letter, we will use a cork quilling mat and pins with a hat. We put the mat under the base, prick the letters of the pins in the corners, stretch the strip along them and glue it.
  5. After the contour of our letter is glued and dried, we remove all the pins, remove the base from the cork backing and fill the contour of the letter with beautiful elements, harmoniously matched in colors.
In the quilling technique, there are several basic elements, each of which has its own name. Based on the "roll" element, the following are formed: a drop, an eye, a rhombus, a square, a triangle, a tulip (lily of the valley or a bell), an arrow, a crescent, a semicircle ... Other important elements in quilling are "scrolls". These include: "S-scroll", "V-scroll", "heart", "curl" and "twig".

In order for our composition to turn out neat and beautiful, we will take into account a few nuances:

  • We cut off a strip of paper, but do not cut it off. This makes its edge thinner and the middle of the roll turns out to be invisible.
  • We pay attention to the fact that there is no factory glue left on the end of the strip, with which all the strips in the set are connected to each other.
  • Remember that the tools differ in the size and texture of the handle, the width and length of the slot. We select a quilling fork under our hand so that it fits comfortably in our hand. This will help at work.
  • The cut in the tool must match the width of the strip and the weight of the paper. As a rule, these data are indicated on a set of quilling paper. So, if paper with a density of 160 g / m 2, then we take a plug with a wider connector. For paper with a density of 80 g / m 2, you need a fork with a narrow slot. The height of the fork connector must also match the width of the paper strip. For a strip 3-5 mm wide, we take a fork 5 mm high, for a strip 5-10 mm wide, a tool with a slot height of 1 cm is suitable.

To better understand the basic elements of quilling, consider the manufacture of some of them in more detail.

Making the basic elements of quilling

How to make a "tight roll"

We insert the edge of the strip into the slot of the tool and twist a tight roll, holding and controlling its evenness. We also carefully remove the roll so that it does not stretch out with a cone. Two or more colors of paper can be used. When one strip ends, we glue the other one so that the joint is no more than 2-4 mm and continue to twist. A tight roll, unlike a loose one, is not relaxed, but immediately glued using a brush, toothpick or needle to apply glue. To perform tight rolls, you can also use a special tool. It's called "tight roll tool".

On the basis of tight we make a "loose roll"

To create a roll of a certain diameter, it is convenient to use a template ruler. We insert the twisted tight roll into the template, where it unwinds to the required size, after which we fix the tip with glue. You can also glue the roll before giving it a certain shape. This master chooses himself.

Element "eye"

We twist a tight roll, dissolve it to the required size and crush it, squeeze it with the index and thumbs of both hands along the edges, on both sides and glue it.

"Rhombus"

We squeeze the loosened roll, as during the production of the "eye", tightly close the index and thumb of one hand with the index and thumb of the other to form a rhombus.

Very beautiful element of quilling - "drop"

We unroll the twisted roll either in the hand, holding it with our fingers, or, if we need a certain size, in a pattern with circles. After we squeeze the roll with our fingers on one side and get the shape of a droplet. We glue the "tail" of the strip and let it dry.

The following elements of quilling are made according to the same principle:

"Arrow"

We relax the roll, make a drop, glue it together and press the lower part of the drop inward with our fingers, slightly sharpening the edges. Also, this element can be done with a pencil or pen.

"Triangle"

Press the slightly relaxed roll with two fingers of the right hand and press the third side with the finger of the left. Thus we get a triangle.

"Square"

Slightly squeeze the sides of the loose roll, as in the manufacture of a rhombus, but not too much, giving the shape of a square.

"Tulip"

Several of these elements can already make up a finished composition. We press one side of the twisted and slightly loosened roll inward with the back side (handle) of the quilling tool. Slightly sharpen the edges with your fingers and get a tulip. We glue the edge, and the element is ready.

"Semicircle"

It is made like a tulip. Only we form a twisted roll not with the handle of the tool, but with our fingers, and, at the same time, we do not press one side deep into, but leave it flat. It turns out a semicircle.

"Crescent"

It is made like a semicircle, but more curved.

These are the main rolls. Following the logic of their manufacture, you can fantasize, and there is no limit. You can form a cone, a spiral, a paw, an asterisk, a curved drop and many other elements, thanks to which you can decorate handmade postcards, caskets, gift wrappings. Easter eggs made using the quilling technique look very beautiful.

"S-scroll"

A strip of paper is twisted into a tight roll up to half and on the other side, also up to half, only in the opposite direction. So we get an element that looks like the letter "S". This scroll is not glued. It unfolds a little and retains the desired shape.

"V-scroll"

We bend the strip exactly in half and twist it tightly outward on each side to the fold. It turns out a scroll similar to the letter "V" or the antennae of a butterfly.

Scroll "heart"

It is done similarly to the V scroll, only we twist the strips of paper tightly not outward, but inward, to the inside of the corner. It turns out a heart. It can be laid out in a template mold and allowed to bloom to the desired size.

Scroll "curl"

The strip is twisted almost to the end into a tight roll and unfolds naturally. It turns out a curl on an even or slightly curved stem, similar to a comma.

Scroll "twig"

We bend the strip in a ratio of 1: 2. We twist the ends in one direction.

In addition to the basic elements, you can twist a lot of arbitrary ones. For example, a wave with even or growing "lambs". It twists from any fragment of the strip in any direction. You can leave it tightly twisted, or you can dissolve it a little. There are no hard and fast rules in quilling. There are basic elements thanks to which you can build something new and no less interesting. On the basis of rolls and scrolls, you can lay out various mosaics. And for more variety, so that the work looks voluminous and colorful, you can use different colors of paper in the manufacture of one element, carefully gluing the strips one by one and twisting them. Thus, the effect of a transition in halftones or a bright juicy contrast is created. Everything is like in nature. Natural and voluminous.

Also, simple basic elements can be used to make complex ones: flowers, leaves, patterns... If we fold a flower and want its petals to be the same size, we use a template. We lay out a tight roll in the desired size, let it unwind, form droplets-petals and glue it in the same template. If you need to make a lot of different elements, then it will be more convenient to first twist the required number of rolls, glue them and set the shape. After pinning with pins to the cork mat, laying out the composition, glue it together and let it dry. The pins will prevent the assembled elements (parts) from moving. It's comfortable.

How to make a voluminous leaflet without loop quilling

It is possible to make an airy voluminous leaflet without using loop quilling. A strip of paper is cut into fragments, about 10-15 cm each. The more there are, the more voluminous our leaf will turn out. We put these fragments on top of each other, glue everything from one edge to one point. Be sure to align the strips with each other so that they lie in a neat, even pile, and then shift them along the length, fixing with glue from the other edge. It turns out an airy voluminous leaflet with veins.

Roses in quilling technique

We insert the edge of the strip into the slot of the tool. We make several turns, forming a tight roll (hold the roll with your index finger so that it does not unwind). We turn the strip outward one bend, twist it around the fork again. We continue to make a "fold-turn" until our bud or open rose is formed. We remove the finished flower from the fork and drip a drop of glue into the middle from the bottom side so that the glue is not noticeable. You can slightly glue the lower petals with glue to secure them. Our rose is ready.

Quilling paper is very flexible. It springs well, keeps its shape and is easy to manipulate. Over time, with a certain skill, all the elements you have will be formed quickly and easily. It remains only to observe the basic principle of quilling: twisting-drawing-gluing and fantasize with pleasure! In fact, quilling is so easy and fun that once you start laying out certain or abstract patterns, you won't stop. This is a mood that you want to share with others. A sea of light and colors!

What is quilling, what is needed for this skill and the technique of hand crafts. Not complicated quilling patterns, 29 photos and videos on creating shapes.

Quilling originated in the 14th century, now it is experiencing another birth. Many are attracted by the fact that such beauty can be created with your own hands from paper strips.

Quilling for beginners - what you need to prepare

For those who have never been engaged in such creativity, it is better to start with simple crafts. It can be:

  • postcards;
  • snowflakes;
  • flowers;
  • panel;
  • Pictures.

They will tell you how to make crafts using the quilling technique for beginners. Below are the main figures that are used to create real works of fine art. First you need to prepare everything you need for this type of creativity.

If you have the opportunity to buy a quilling kit, get it. The basic kit includes:
  • strips of colored paper;
  • a template with a coordinate grid applied to it, radii, guides;
  • a device with a forked metal tip, with which paper tapes are twisted;
  • glue;
  • small scissors;
  • tweezers.
Larger quilling kits are also available for sale. There is a ruler with round holes to make twisted elements of the desired size along it; pins for rough fastening parts. Ready-made kits are also sold, in which there is a diagram, blanks in order to make flowers, a butterfly, a picture, and so on.

If you do not have the opportunity to buy a ready-made set, this should not stop those who want to create. In quilling tools for twisting the ribbon, you can turn:

  • manicure scissors with straight ends;
  • awl;
  • kernel;
  • gypsy needle;
  • toothpick.

Cut off the sharp part of the toothpick, and split the resulting top with a clerical knife. You will insert the edge of the paper tape into this hole and twist it.

When using nail scissors, paper strips are placed between two blades. Further, the tape is wrapped around this tool and a spiral of the desired size is obtained.

When using an awl and a gypsy needle, the edge of the strip is superimposed on the metal part, held with two fingers of the free hand and twisted. They also work with a rod, but in this case the core of the workpiece may turn out to be larger than necessary, then any of the four tools listed above are used.

Strips of quilling paper can also be replaced. To do this, cut them out of white or colored double-sided paper.

Quilling patterns

A detailed description of the manufacture of various elements of this needlework will help you create real masterpieces over time.

The main elements of quilling are:

  • tight and loose spiral;
  • curl;
  • drop and curved drop;
  • semicircle;
  • eye;
  • arrow;
  • sheet;
  • heart;
  • triangle;
  • crescent;
  • square;
  • foot;
  • horns.
Almost all work begins with the manufacture of a "tight spiral". Take a strip of quilling paper. If there is no such material, then lay a sheet of A4 paper horizontally in front of you, moving the scissors from the bottom up, cut off a strip equal in width to 3–5 mm. Fix its tip between the blades of nail scissors, in the slot of a toothpick or a special quilling tool.

You need to hold the paper tape with your left hand, and the tool with your right. If your strip is double-sided, then its wrong side should look towards the rod. Rotate the tool clockwise, and with the fingers of your left hand, hold the spiral beginning to form from above and below so that the curls are even and at the same level.

When the tape is over, put a little glue on its free end and attach it to the spiral so that it does not unwind and the workpiece looks neat. So you made one of the main figures of quilling. Many others are based on this element. Those who are better with the left hand need to carry out this process in a mirror image.

The next element is called a "free spiral", make it from the figure you just received. To do this, remove the spiral from the needle, let it unwind a little. You can do it differently - do not let go of the fingers of your left hand, but slightly rotate them in the center of this quilling element, and the spiral will weaken.

To make a “curl”, you do not need to glue the free end of the twisted tape to the spiral. To make a “drop”, it is necessary to squeeze the “free spiral” on one side with your fingers for a few seconds. A “curved drop” will turn out if you bend the corner of the “drop”.

The element called "eye" is also easy to make. To do this, the “free spiral” needs to be slightly pulled to the sides and clamped from two opposite sides, then released. The “leaf” figure will turn out if the corners of the “eye” are bent, one to the right, the second to the left. To make a "semicircle", take a free spiral, press it so that the top side becomes rounded and the bottom side is even.

It clearly shows how elements are made using the photo quilling technique. Looking at it, you will understand how to create an "arrow". To do this, press with your fingers on 3 sides of the spiral to make a triangle, now press two of its corners to each other, leave the third one as it was.

To make a quilling greeting card, you can decorate it with an element called "horns". To do this, you need to take a long paper tape, bend it in half, wind the right side in the form of a spiral clockwise, and the left side counterclockwise.

The “heart” shape is made in the same way, only the right half of the tape is wound counterclockwise, and the left half is wound clockwise. The junction of these two elements must be clamped with your fingers to get the corner of the heart.

The "crescent" is made from the "eye", its 2 opposite corners are bent in the form of the letter "C". A “triangle” will turn out when the “free spiral” is compressed in three places, and to make a “square” this must be done from 4 sides.

For the “foot”, you need to make a “triangle” figure, and then bend its two opposite sides to the center with your finger.

How flowers are made using quilling technique

Now that you know how to make the basic elements for this type of creativity, you can start the fun process and create original postcards. If you want to decorate them with such colors, then make a “drop” shape from the “free spiral”. To make the petals multi-colored, use quilling paper of different colors. The middle of the flower will come out of the "free spiral" figure.

Drop glue on a postcard or cardboard, attach a “free spiral” here. Also, with the help of glue, fix a few petals around it. The stem is glued in the same way. For it, take a strip of green paper. The middle leaf, as you can see, is made from the "drop" shape, and the upper and lower leaves are made from the "eye" elements. After the glue dries, the work is completed.

You can make other postcards using the quilling technique. For beginners, another simple option is offered.

As you can see, the center of the flowers is a "free spiral". The petals are made from the same element, but in a different shade. Decorate the card with a "heart" element, as well as an "eye" figure. A beautiful creation will be appreciated by the one to whom you present such a gift.

How snowflakes are made using quilling technique

For the New Year, you can make a snowflake. For her you will need:
  • quilling paper;
  • stencil;
  • tailor's pins;
  • glue gun or PVA;
  • quilling tool.
Cut 3 paper strips in half, you will need 5 pieces. Insert the tip of the first one into the hole of the quilling tool, twist the tape tightly. Remove it and insert it into the hole in the stencil. Let's say it is 10 mm. This is the diameter you will have the first blank. Make the next 4 elements the same size.

To remove the spiral from the stencil, pick it up in the center with a toothpick and remove it by pressing the workpiece with your finger. Let it unwind a little, glue the tip. You have a "free spiral". Place all 5 blanks in the center of the template, it will be easy to align them with it.

If beginners make a snowflake using the quilling technique, then it is better to attach the elements to the template with a pin, and then glue them together. Then the details will be arranged as needed.

As you can see in the photo, 10 “eye” details are located around the five “free spiral” elements. Make them and glue them together and with the central parts of the snowflake.

The next 5 parts of the “free spiral” are made from solid strips, so they will turn out to be 2 times larger than similar snowflakes glued in the center. A stencil will also help to achieve their evenness. Use a hole with a diameter of 2 cm. After gluing the tip to the spiral, let it unwind and attach each such blank to the previous row of parts.

So that the "free spiral" in the snowflake does not unwind, direct the center of the spiral to its edge, press it. You can apply a little glue here so that the middle of the workpiece has shifted to the edge.

As you can see, the “tight spiral” completes the production of the attribute of winter and the New Year. You need 5 of these elements made using a stencil. Glue them in place. If you will be hanging a snowflake, run a strong thread through the center of one "tight spiral" and bring it out through the middle of another. Tie it in a bow and hang it on the Christmas tree or on the wall.

The video clearly shows how to make quilling snowflakes:

Quilling is the process of paper rolling, twisting paper strips into spirals. These spirals consist of paper compositions that are glued to cardboard or paper.

Teaching the basics of the art of twisting paper compositions can be divided into two stages: learning how to make rolls (paper spirals) and learning how to make finished compositions. But before you start getting to know each other, you need to prepare the necessary tools and blanks.

Blanks and tools for quilling

Quilling blanks are strips of fairly thick paper 3 mm wide and 270 mm long. We note right away that special paper for our crafts is sold in the store, where you can also buy a twisting tool. If you wish, the strips can be made independently. To do this, you need to cut colored paper of sufficient density, having previously marked it. As a twisting tool, you can use an awl or a notched toothpick.

Varieties of rolls and the principle of their manufacture

As already mentioned, all quilling figures consist of spirals of tightly twisted paper strips. There are two types of rolls - basic and free. At the base, both ends of the strips are glued, and at the free ones, only the initial one.

Making basic spirals requires attention and manual dexterity. Step by step technique:

  1. Apply glue to one of the ends of the strip;
  2. Taking a strip in the left hand, and in the right tool, we begin twisting. If a split toothpick or a special tool is used, the tip of the strip moistened with glue must be placed in the slot of the tool. If an awl is used, then the tip will have to be held with the fingers of the left hand, which is not very convenient.
  3. Now you can start twisting the strip. It is usually done counterclockwise.
  4. After one or two turns, you need to do the following: holding the workpiece with your right hand, the paper strip must be passed between the nail of the thumb and the pad of the index finger of the left hand, and stretched from the bottom up, squeezing it not too hard. After that, the strip will twist a little.
  5. We continue to wind the roll until the length of the remaining strip is 3-4 mm.
  6. After that, apply glue to this residue, and fix it with your fingers.
  7. It remains only to remove the workpiece from the tool with the index finger and thumb of the left hand.

Making free rolls, in principle, the same as the base ones, only their free ends are not glued.

  1. After the spiral is twisted, it needs to be carefully inserted into the desired template.
  2. Next, in the template, the workpiece must be untwisted so that the winding lies against the contours of the template.
  3. Then the winding is straightened and distributed with tweezers.
  4. Everything, it remains to remove the element from the template.

Making basic quilling elements

After the basics of making free and basic blanks have been mastered, you can begin to study the basic (basic) elements of quilling for beginners. Only after learning how to make spirals of various shapes, you can start making the first crafts. Basically, in simple crafts, the following types of elements are used. Below is the process of how to make each element step by step.

"Eye"

  • Roll a free roll.
  • Take the roll symmetrically with the thumb and forefinger of the left and right hands.
  • With a slight movement, compress the workpiece so that its turns are evenly distributed.
  • Finish the compression with a strong movement, while allowing them to disperse freely.

"Crooked eye

  • Twist a loose roll like an "eye".
  • Without releasing your hands, move the ends of the roll so that they are symmetrical in the vertical plane.
  • Compress the ends in a horizontal plane, while the winding diverges slightly.

"A drop"

  • Twist a loose roll of the desired size.
  • Take the roll with your right hand (forefinger and thumb) by the flat sides, while the turns should be evenly distributed over the sides.
  • Then, with the fingers of the left hand, take any free side of the roll, and squeeze it with a slight movement. The winding is evenly distributed during compression.
  • Finish the contraction with a stronger movement of the fingers.
  • Release the roll, while the winding finally diverges and takes the desired shape.

"Leaf"

  • Roll a free roll.
  • Bend it like a "drop".
  • Take the wide part of the drop with the index finger and thumb of the right hand by the flat side.
  • Then, with your left hand, iron the vertical surfaces of the narrow parts of the figure, bend them towards you.
  • Release the workpiece, while the winding diverges a little.

"Triangle"

  • Twist free element.
  • Bend it like a "drop", but do not finish with a strong clamp.
  • Take the roll with your left hand, squeeze it with your right hand by the narrow part.
  • Complete the bend by strongly pressing the vertices of the triangle, while they are placed between the fingers of the left hand.
  • Release the workpiece to diverge the winding.

"Square"

  • Twist a small loose roll.
  • Bend it like an "eye", but do not finish with a strong clamp.
  • Rotate the roll 90 degrees and squeeze again.
  • Finish the folds with a strong clamp.
  • Release for winding divergence.

"Rose"

  • Step back from the end of the paper strip-blank 30 mm, fold in a corner.
  • Wrap the long end around the short end, then bend, and wrap around again.
  • Fasten the resulting petal with glue.
  • There should be 5-8 petals in total.
  • After the long tip is fixed from below, it needs to be cut.

"Star"

This roll is twisted like a roll "eye" and "square". The difference is that the "asterisk" has 6 bend points, not 4.

"Hare Ear"

This roll is twisted like a “drop” and “leaf” element. Differences - in the displacement of the bending point in one direction, and not in different directions.

"Crescent"

The element is twisted like a “drop” and “leaf” roll.

Twisting - the nuances

  • In the work on gluing finished elements, you need to use PVA glue. Glue is applied pointwise in small quantities.
  • It is very convenient to glue the elements with tweezers. When gluing with one sponge, the roll is clamped from the outside, and the other from the inside.
  • Glue is applied to the underside of the roll.
  • The element must be glued to the base with tweezers, after the roll smeared with glue is applied to the base with tweezers, the tweezers are removed and the workpiece is strongly pressed with a finger.
  • Rolls must be glued so that their sides are in contact.
  • Excess glue must be removed with a needle.

New Year's snake - a master class with a photo

After the skills of making various rolls appear, you can begin to manufacture products using the acquired skills. One of the simplest, and at the same time spectacular crafts is the "New Year's snake". This craft can be mastered by both adults and children over the age of 7 years.

To make crafts you will need:

  1. Standard strips for blue rolls - 18 pieces 30 cm long and 2 pieces 15 cm long (divide the bottom strip in half).
  2. Blue threads.
  3. PVA glue
  4. Quilling tool or split toothpicks.
  5. Snake Eye Crystal.
  6. Glue or glitter varnish.

Instruction

From 16 long and 2 short strips, using the prepared tool, we make blank spirals. As a result, we will get 14 large spirals and 2 small ones.

We start with the head. The head of the snake consists of three parts - each of one roll of the basic design. So, we make one “drop”, “crescent” and “leaf” each. We glue them as in the photo, while inserting into the “sheet” and gluing the crystal as an eye.

Now we begin to create the body of the snake. To begin with, to give rigidity, we will make a frame of 4 long strips, which we glue together in pairs, and glue the resulting two thick strips to the back of the snake's head.

The body of the snake is done like this: in the gap between the two frame strips, first we glue 2 small spiral blanks, and then in turn large circles. In order to bend the snake's body, with the help of blue threads, two thick strips that make up the frame must be inserted between them. The node is inside.

We form the next bend of the body of the snake - closer to its tail.

It remains to decorate the edges of the snake with prepared varnish with sparkles.
Everything, the snake is ready!

Quilling - a bird's feather, translated from English. This technique originated in Europe at the end of the 15th century. At that time, by twisting paper with gilded edges with bird feathers, the monks made unusual medallions in this way.

Today we will learn how to do quilling, you will find diagrams and a description of the work below.

Below are just some patterns for quilling - flowers, an owl, a firebird, butterflies and fish:

Quilling for Beginners: Snowflake

The easiest way to start creating using the quilling technique is with a simple snowflake, so let's look at how to make it.

See the quilling master class for beginners below.

What is necessary

  • Office white paper;
  • office colored paper or plain colored paper;
  • Scissors;
  • Pencil;
  • Ruler;
  • Glue;
  • Toothpick.

Description of work

Cut or buy strips for quilling. Now we need to form the details. To do this, wind a strip of paper on a toothpick, turn it in the opposite direction a little and pull out the toothpick.

Let the roller unwind a little, then give it the shape of an eye, lightly squeeze it with your fingers.

In order for the part not to unwind, glue the edge of the strip.

It turns out such a detail as in the photo.

You need to make 12 such parts in blue and 6 white.

The next piece will be in the shape of a heart. It is necessary to fold the strip in half and twist it inward from both ends to the fold, let it unwind a little and glue it in the center.

You need to make 6 such white parts.

The next detail is the lamb. Also fold the strip in half, but wind the ends already outward.

Such details need 6 pieces of white color.

In total there should be:

6 details in the form of an eye in white and 12 in blue;

6 details in the form of a white heart;

6 details "lamb" of white color.

Snowflake assembly:

With a toothpick, very carefully, apply glue to the edge of the parts and attach them to each other.

Make this flower.

Lay out the second row of hearts like this:

In order to assemble the 3rd row, you need to glue the blue parts in the shape of an eye 2 together. Then attach them between the hearts.

The last row consists of lamb parts. Glue these details in the middle of each of the pairs in the shape of a blue eye. Glue the curls of neighboring lambs and that's it, the snowflake is ready.

To make it clearer, we attach video tutorials.

Quilling for Beginners: Flowers

It is also easy to make flowers in this technique. Below are the color schemes.

Flowers made according to these schemes can be used to create postcards, pictures and paintings.

For example:

These wonderful pictures can be made using flowers made using the quilling technique.

Valentine card in quilling technique

To make such an unusual valentine, you need strips of the size, color and quantity you need and glue.

First you need to wind a lot of spirals.

Then make elements of different shapes from spirals. Fold them into a heart shape.

With the help of the remaining elements, you need to fill in the heart, selecting elements that fit the shape.

Finally form the heart and glue all the elements together.

Volumetric heart for Valentine's Day is ready! It turns out that the quilling technique can be used not only to create paintings, even crafts can be made using this technique.

We make a butterfly using the quilling technique

First you need to glue the strips together to get 4 long multi-colored stripes. Choose the length and width according to the required size of the butterfly itself.

Now you need to make 4 rolls, 2 of which are slightly larger. Then, to make the butterfly look unusual, shift the center of each roll to one side and secure with glue.

Now you need to glue these 2 parts together. Glue a strip to the joint.

Here's what happened.

The butterfly is almost ready, it remains to make the antennae.

Bend the strip in half and glue 2 small rolls on the ends.

Using simple quilling patterns, even those who have never done this kind of crafts can master this technique.

Quilling is an English word, it can be translated as “quilling” or “corrugating”. Both values are ideal for determining what needs to be done with strips of paper in order to get an interesting craft or even a whole picture. Quilling for beginners is difficult because, in the absence of experience, it is difficult to maintain a single size of blanks, if we are not talking about tightly rolled rolls. The beauty of applications made using the quilling technique lies in the delicacy of the drawings.

The beauty of applications made using the quilling technique lies in the delicacy of the drawings.

To make paintings in needlework and creativity stores, you can buy ready-made sets of figures - already glued flowers, petals and other elements. They also sell special paper. It differs in density and uniform color on both sides and on sections.

When selecting material from the category of improvised, it is necessary to take thick paper that holds its shape and is able to curl under the influence of scissors on it. In quality, it should resemble serpentine or gift wrapping tape.

Snowflake from the same elements

It is better to start getting acquainted with the technology of mastery on simple schemes, such as a snowflake, consisting of the same type of elements and very easy to do.

For work you will need:

  • Old ballpoint pen;
  • cut strips of paper;
  • PVA glue.

Before starting work with paper, it is necessary to prepare the core for work - cut its upper end to a depth equal to the width of the strips.

You can get started:

  1. The tip of the strip is clamped in the slots of the rod;
  2. Scrolling the rod with your right hand, and slightly pulling a strip of paper with your left hand, you need to twist a tight roller. If the element should turn out just like that, then the end of the tape is fixed with glue.
  3. For more complex parts, it is required to dissolve the tape to the required outer diameter. To do this, the roller is clamped between the thumb and forefinger, they are slightly moved apart, giving the paper room to loosen the turns.
  4. The outer end of the strip is glued to the roller.
  5. It remains only to give the workpiece the necessary shape.

Ideas on how to make interesting do-it-yourself quilling blanks

The picture shows several options for interesting details for creating three-dimensional figures and applications. All of them are made by twisting paper into a tight roller. Quilling patterns can be varied, even a child can learn this.

The simplest of them are "Drops". They are formed from weakened spirals. To do this, you just need to squeeze one end of the workpiece.

If you flatten the workpiece with your fingers from opposite ends, you get the “Eye”. This blank is often used to make petals.

With a slight displacement of one clamp, a figure with one straight side will be obtained. The opposite side will be curved.

When making flowers, petals of different shapes will be required. It is easy to make a cornflower petal from a “drop”. To do this, you just need to give it the shape of an arrow.

If you need to get a symmetrical figure with two spirals, then two rods will be required to work.

Consider the process of making a heart step by step:

  1. We insert the ends of the strip into the notched rods.
  2. We outline the middle of the strip, iron it.
  3. At the same time, we begin to scroll the rods in the opposite direction.
  4. Having loosened the rollers to the required diameter, we fasten their most convex parts with glue.

curls

If you need to form insect antennae, flower stamens, rays of the sun and other elements with a slight bend, you can not twist the paper.

  • It is enough to take scissors.
  • Reveal them.
  • Holding the middle of the strip with your left hand, and the place of the paper, from which the curl should begin, between the blade and the thumb of your right hand.
  • With a strong, but not very sharp movement of the scissors to the right, the strip curls.
  • This element does not require adhesive fixing.

You can use curls not only when creating pictures of a summer theme. Snowflakes are very light and airy. Although, most often this element is used in floral ornaments. For greater expressiveness, it is performed using several strips of paper in contrasting colors. The inner strip of the element can be of any shade. For the outer part of the fragment, boiling white or radical black paper is more often used.

Quilling for beginners: a master class on creating flowers

Glued in a certain order to the stem, parallel to each other, tight spirals will look like phloxes or clusters of berries. Such a solution is not suitable for creating voluminous crafts. As an idea for creating a postcard or a picture, it is almost perfect.

It remains only to complement the bouquet with traditional quilling openwork elements - single flowers, butterflies, dragonflies.

Round card with one flower

Simple, but very beautiful flowers are obtained from elements resembling drops.

  • To make one flower, you will need 6 strips of pink and white paper.
  • They are folded together, the edges of the strips are aligned and threaded into a holder - an incised rod.
  • All six twisted and loosened spirals should match as much as possible in size.
  • To make the leaves of the plant, you need to take green stripes of two saturated bright or contrasting shades.

Attention! To achieve a perfect match in the size of the petals, it is better to use a stencil with pre-drilled holes. For this purpose, a school ruler with ready-made circle templates is suitable. This makes it easier to loosen the twist, there will be no errors with the size of the finished element.

Several types of quilling leaves

The result largely depends on the choice of the model of the leaves of the plant. You can make a combined sheet.

  • Having made a loose spiral, you need to form a “comma” from it.
  • Taking another strip of paper, you need to fold it with a loop twice as large as the “comma”.
  • The rest of the strip should be on only one end. An internal small loop is formed from it. The number of additions does not really matter.
  • Having fastened the outer element, it remains only to place the first spiral bent in the form of a comma in it.

It is easier to make thin leaves from a loose paper spiral. Their difference is only in the direction of bending the corners and their number.

After making all the necessary elements of the picture, you can make the basis for the application. In order not to make a mistake with the dimensions, the drawing needs to be folded together. Since the postcard should turn out to be round, then you will have to measure the distance from the center to the edge with a compass.

The inner, denser circle will be slightly larger than the drawing itself. The second layer of less durable paper is two centimeters larger in diameter than the first. It needs to be cut figuratively, giving it the appearance of a sunflower.

Having glued the base of two paper circles of different colors and textures, you can start gluing the main details of the work. It is not necessary to join opposite petals. Works with a modest addition in the form of a large bead that replaces the tight spiral center look more advantageous.

Quilling is easy

Beautiful compositions made up of twisted paper elements do not differ in the complexity of the elements. The main secret of the craftswomen lies in the correct selection of tones and composition.

The peculiarity of the presented work lies in the two-level arrangement of the main elements and the combination in various combinations of only three shades of brown with pure white. This whole picture is made in a single plane.

In quilling paintings, a riot of colors can be used, as in the presented work. It uses only basic forms - a tight spiral, a curl and a weakened spiral.

The secret of the master, who chose the shape of a box of chocolates as a frame, lies in the organic combination of bright tones of warm and cold colors of the color palette.

A special zest is given by the compositional construction. Elements are placed in two levels. Brown curls are a continuation of the main background. They help to connect the parts fixed at an angle with the plane of the main field. Bright elements partially extend to the frame, but not beyond it. They give the picture dynamics.

Features of the combined elements:

  • Strips of different colors, to form petals, are overlapped until a tight spiral is twisted.
  • To make a bunch of grapes, monophonic and combined blue-violet blanks were used.
  • When performing the “curl” fragments, the strips are glued at the bend of the workpiece, from where the twisting is performed.

The technique for doing this work is not complicated. The assembly of crafts is carried out in stages. First, a drawing is made that does not go beyond the niche bounded by the elevations of the frame. At the final stage, elements of the second level are glued.

To accurately reproduce the work of the wizard, you need to print it and use the drawing as an assembly diagram, fitting the dimensions of the elements.
