Hands, fingers and palms always “give out” age, so women need careful care for them. Paraffin therapy is the simplest, most popular and effective salon service for healing and improving the appearance of hands. Its popularity is growing due to the possibility of self-performing the procedure at home.

Paraffin therapy for hands - benefits

A feature of the considered cosmetic raw materials is a high heat capacity. Paraffin melts already at 53 degrees Celsius, turning into a viscous mass. It easily envelops the skin, but does not cause discomfort and does not provoke burns. The benefits of paraffin for hands include several beneficial cosmetic effects:

  • slowing down the aging process;
  • deep hydration;
  • smoothing fine wrinkles;
  • strengthening and nourishing the nail plates;
  • cleansing and renewal of the skin;
  • elimination of peeling, irritation and coarseness.

Paraffin therapy for hands can also be used as a therapeutic medical procedure. This manipulation has the following positive effects:

  • activation of blood circulation in tissues;
  • normalization of lymph outflow;
  • reduction of puffiness;
  • restoration of muscle tone;
  • improved joint mobility;
  • relieving pain and spasms;
  • healing of microdamages of the skin.

Types of paraffin therapy

There are 2 options for care using the presented tool:

  1. Cold cream-paraffin for hands. These are ready-made cosmetic products that do not require pre-melting.
  2. Hot paraffin therapy. The raw material is sold in solid form, it must first be heated and melted.

Cold paraffin therapy for hands

This procedure is preferred by most women, especially with a lack of free time. Cold paraffin for hands is a thick cream that softens with the warmth of the skin. It additionally contains:

  • wax;
  • plant extracts;
  • lanolin;
  • essential oils;
  • B vitamins and other valuable ingredients.

Cold paraffin therapy is a very simple manipulation with many advantages:

  • economical use of funds;
  • no special bath is required to heat the raw materials;
  • absolute hygiene (the cream is applied only 1 time);
  • convenience and ease of use;
  • low price of the product;
  • no contraindications and no risk of burns.

This type of procedure is more pleasant in sensations and acts a little more intensively and faster. Paraffin for paraffin therapy is pre-melted to a comfortable temperature. To melt it, you can use a water bath or a special one with a heating function. In liquid paraffin for hands, it is necessary to lower the brushes several times so that a dense film forms on them. It envelops and warms the skin, creating a greenhouse effect.

Paraffin therapy for hands in the salon

At the beginning of acquaintance with the care in question, it is better to contact a specialist. Paraffin therapy for hands is available and does not take much time. Cold paraffin therapy is carried out almost identically. The only difference between the procedures is the way the cosmetic product is applied. Cream-paraffin does not melt and does not harden on the skin, it is applied in a dense layer immediately after peeling. Thanks to the additional nutritional components in the composition of such a product, subsequent moisturizing can be skipped.

The described manipulation is very simple to perform, so many women do it on their own. Paraffin therapy at home is similar to a salon service in terms of effectiveness and end results, if all actions are carried out correctly. You can put plastic bags on your hands and wrap them in a thick towel. Cosmetic paraffin will have to be purchased at a pharmacy or nail store. Candles or cinders should not be used.

What it is?

This is a pleasant cosmetic rejuvenating procedure applied on any part of the skin. The use of paraffin is due to the high heat capacity of the material. Already at a temperature of 53 °, cosmetic paraffin melts, turning into a viscous mass, which is convenient to apply to the skin. But at the same time, low thermal conductivity of the material will help to avoid burns. The temperature under a layer of paraffin increases only a couple of degrees. After paraffin therapy, the skin becomes moisturized, tender, soft and visibly smoothed. The effect of the procedure can be enjoyed within a week.

Types of paraffin therapy

Depending on which wax is used for the procedure, there are:

  1. Hot paraffin therapy, which requires melting the material in a steam bath.
  2. Cold paraffin therapy. The procedure consists in applying cold paraffin cream to the surface of the hands or other parts of the body, that is, there is no thermal effect, which allows girls and women with contraindications to the hot method to do the procedures.

How does hot paraffin work, the benefits of the procedure

This material consists of hydrocarbons, it is dense and does not allow air to pass through. The skin under a layer of paraffin is as if in a greenhouse, that is, sweat, standing out, does not evaporate from its surface and is absorbed back. At the same time, the released toxins are not reabsorbed due to the large size of the molecules. This is what provides such valuable moisturizing and detoxifying properties of paraffin therapy. Also, thermal exposure contributes to the rapid and deep penetration of the active components of creams into the layers of the skin through expanding intercellular spaces.

Moreover, paraffin therapy for hands and body is capable of:

Normalize blood circulation and lymph flow, which will improve skin nutrition and speed up the process of removing toxins;

Clear pores;

Reduce swelling;

Smooth out fine wrinkles;

Restore muscle tone of the skin;

Increase the elasticity and firmness of the skin;

Improve overall well-being.

Benefits of cold paraffin therapy

Cold paraffin therapy for hands and body has a number of advantages over hot:

There is no need to purchase additional containers for melting the material;

Saving time, as there is no need to wait for the preparation of paraffin (it melts for about an hour and a half);

Easily removed with warm water after the end of the procedure;

There are no contraindications, except for individual intolerance to the ingredients in the composition of cold paraffin.

Cold and hot paraffin therapy produces a pronounced psychotherapeutic effect. Immersion in hot paraffin can relax and restore even the most exhausted and tense female psyche. A cold enveloping with paraffin with various fragrances will cheer you up and just bring a lot of pleasure.

What should be the paraffin for the procedure

The paraffin therapy procedure requires the use of highly purified, completely dehydrated paraffin. This composition can be supplemented with essential oils, minerals, salts and vitamins. Aloe, for example, will soothe inflamed skin and also soften it. Ginger extract in paraffin will give freshness, relieve puffiness, strengthen the walls of blood vessels. Lemon and lime will create a whitening, cleansing and refreshing effect. You should pay attention to the fact that the composition does not contain artificial colors or flavors.

Contraindications to the use of hot paraffin therapy

Paraffin therapy for hands and body is a type of heat compresses that are useful, but, unfortunately, not suitable for everyone.

To refrain from hot paraffin therapy, but girls and women with:

Hypertension;

Infectious diseases or diabetes;

Hypertrichosis;

Purulent lesions of the skin;

Warts, moles or other neoplasms on the face;

Rash or sores on the skin;

- varicose veins, if you are thinking about paraffin therapy of the legs.

What to buy for hot paraffin therapy at home

Of course, it's great to spend a couple of hours in a beauty salon, where professionals in uniform dressing gowns are fussing around you. But, unfortunately, most women do not have enough time or money for this. The main advantage of paraffin therapy is that it is not necessary to go to the salon to carry it out. Everything is very easy to do at home. You will need:

Cosmetic paraffin, which can be purchased at a pharmacy or a specialized store;

A bath for paraffin therapy, which can be a ceramic or glass dish;

Polythene bag or hand gloves;

For the face, a piece of gauze and a cosmetic brush;

Nourishing cream and scrub for the skin.

The results after the home procedure will not be long in coming.

Rejuvenating treatment for hands and feet

Paraffin hand therapy at home will easily make dreams of soft and silky skin a reality. The effect when carrying out the procedure at home will not differ in any way from that which can be obtained in a professional salon. The process begins with heating the paraffin. This should be done on a steam bath. To do this, you can use an enameled saucepan with water, where a glass or ceramic dish with paraffin is placed, or you can purchase a melting apparatus that will melt the material and keep it in that state. In order not to waste time waiting for melting, you can start preparing your hands for the procedure: peel, remove varnish, apply a nourishing cream.

When the paraffin becomes soft and viscous, you should lower your hands into it up to the wrist for 2-5 seconds. Taking out your hands, you will see a film formed by paraffin on them. He needs to be allowed to cool down a bit. Then repeat the procedure 3-6 times until a thick layer is formed on the hands. On top of the paraffin "gloves" are put on polyethylene and warm terry, which help to retain heat and enhance the effect of paraffin. Within half an hour after removing the wax from your hands with warm water, you can enjoy rejuvenated and refreshed skin.

Paraffin therapy for hands, reviews of which are extremely positive, helps not only to eliminate minor flaws or external defects, but also has a healing effect. So, after a course of procedures, consisting of 5-10 sessions, you can forget about the problem of premature skin aging, severe dryness, peeling, cracks and redness.

Our feet experience no less stress, as a result of which the skin of the feet becomes rough and cracked. Paraffin therapy for hands and feet is carried out almost the same way. The feet are cleaned with a scrub, then a nourishing or moisturizing cream is applied. After that, the legs are lowered into paraffin and wrapped up to keep warm. The procedure ends with the application of cream.

Beauties who have chosen a home procedure should remember that the reuse of paraffin is unacceptable, if only because it loses all useful and nutritious substances after the first application.

Paraffin therapy for the face

This is a completely painless and quite effective way to rejuvenate the skin of the face, restore radiance, softness and smoothness. The advantage is:

Restoration of water balance;

Softening and getting rid of puffiness;

smoothing;

Pulling up the oval of the face.

To prepare the skin of the face, wipe it with an alcohol-free tonic and apply a nourishing cream. Paraffin is applied with a brush along the massage lines. A pre-prepared gauze bandage with slits for the nose and mouth is applied to the first layer. Several more layers of the substance are applied to it, and everything is covered with a terry towel. In a state of absolute rest, you must be at least 20 minutes.

Paraffin therapy for hands and body skin is easy to perform, comfortable, pleasant and will allow you to enjoy the beauty and softness of healthy skin for a long time. This procedure debunks the myth that beauty requires sacrifice.

Cold paraffin therapy helps to restore a healthy look to cracked skin of the hands and feet, relieves dryness, peeling, is a preventive measure, softens the dermis, reduces swelling, strengthens nails and cuticles, reduces calluses, eliminates hangnails. It is advisable to carry out in the hot season.

The bottom line is to use a special cream. The product contains paraffin and has a mild effect on the skin, distributed over the body with a special brush (no need to rub it intensively, just apply with light massaging movements). Paraffin from the cream warms up from body heat.

Expert opinion

Tatiana Somoylova

Cosmetology expert

As a rule, manufacturers of cold paraffin take care of their customers and create entire lines of cosmetics, including tonics for cleansing at the beginning of the procedure and daily moisturizers. If you use the entire set, you can achieve the best results.

How to use

There are several options for the use of paraffin therapy. Most often, salons provide services for the care of the skin of the hands or feet. To understand how to use cold paraffin cream correctly, you should understand what steps the procedure includes for different parts of the body.

For hands

It is the hands that need especially careful care, since they are almost always open and exposed to aggressive external factors. Therefore, such a procedure will be a real salvation for them, as it helps to soften the skin and moisturize it.

What you need for paraffin therapy at home

Before proceeding with the procedure itself, it is necessary to thoroughly wash your hands with soap, remove all contamination and previously applied products from them. Dry well with a soft towel afterwards. Also at this stage, it is recommended to tidy up the nails and cuticles. Then a scrub is applied to the skin of the hands.

The tool helps to exfoliate already dead cells to ensure better penetration of nutrients from the cream.

Next, you need to apply the cold paraffin itself. To do this, take a special brush with soft bristles and distribute it over the entire surface of the hands. Just one layer is enough. To enhance the effect of heat, it is recommended to wrap your hands in plastic wrap, and then wrap them in a towel or put on thermal mittens. Cold paraffin for hands should be kept on the skin for about twenty minutes.

Spread the paraffin over the entire surface of the hands with a brush with soft bristles.

The last stage of the procedure includes removing the cream. The tool is easily removed from the hands along with the cellophane film. At the same time, the remnants of the cream should not be washed off, it is better to remove them with a napkin.

If the skin is very dry, it can be additionally treated with a moisturizer or cream after paraffin removal.

The results of cold paraffin therapy will delight women for a long time. This procedure allows you to soften the skin, make it smooth and silky. To prolong the effect, you should return to paraffin therapy a couple of times a week.

Watch the video about the procedure of cold paraffin therapy:

For legs

The sequence of actions for the skin of the feet and knees is exactly the same. Cold paraffin is great for softening rough and worn skin, making it more tender. The foot treatment can also be repeated once or twice a week until the desired result is achieved.

For face

Cold paraffin is great for getting rid of rough and dry skin on any part of the body. But for the face, it is simply contraindicated. The fact is that the skin on the body is quite thick, so paraffin will not be able to adversely affect it. But on the face, the dermis is very thin and delicate, it is easy to damage it. Cosmetologists warn against the use of cold paraffin and recommend focusing on hot masks.

Paraffin therapy will help to keep the skin on the hands and feet in order. The use of cold creams makes the dermis soft and velvety, and also helps to strengthen the nails after a manicure. At the same time, the procedure will not cause any difficulties, and the result will please for a long time.

Not everyone is shown thermal procedures, not everyone wants to carry out thermal procedures in the warm season. And you want to look good in any situation. In order not to refuse paraffin therapy and to get consistently excellent results from this procedure, you can replace hot paraffin with cold one.

With the help of cold paraffin, procedures for hands and feet are carried out. Does not apply to the face.

What it is

The composition of the product includes paraffin with a low melting point, essential and base oils, and other substances useful for the skin. The consistency of cold paraffin is creamy. The product is easily applied to the skin and distributed with gentle massage movements. Its effect is based on the ability to retain its own body heat and a higher content of active ingredients that moisturize and nourish the skin compared to hot paraffin.

  • it is more hygienic, since there is no need to dip your hands in a common bath, a portion of the cream is applied only once for one client;

Contraindications

  • the presence of scratches and abrasions on the skin;
  • pustular rash;
  • fungal, viral and bacterial skin diseases;
  • trophic ulcers;
  • red dots and abrasions on the skin after depilation.

Stages of the procedure

Consider the procedure for the procedure on the example of cold paraffin therapy for hands. For the legs, it is performed in a similar way.

  • Stage 1: Cleansing and exfoliation.

It is advisable to wash the skin of the hands with soap and wipe dry to remove all impurities and cosmetics that have been previously applied. If necessary, then at this stage the cuticle is processed and the edges of the nail plates are formed. After cleansing, a soft scrub is applied and distributed over the skin with soft massaging movements.

  • Stage 2: Applying the cream.

To perform the procedure of cold paraffin therapy, not all masters consider the application of paraffin cream to be mandatory, since it is saturated with valuable oils and substances beneficial to the skin.

However, if you use a serum or a good cream, then under a layer of paraffin, the active ingredients from cosmetics will penetrate deeper and give a more pronounced effect.

  • Stage 3: Application of cold paraffin.

It is applied with a soft brush. Usually one layer is enough, on top of which a cellophane glove and a cloth mitten are put on. Remains on the skin for 15-20 minutes, then removed with a cellophane glove.

  • Stage 4: Completion of the procedure.

After removing the cold paraffin from the hands, a layer of cover cream can be applied to prolong the effect. But since it is saturated with oils, additional application of the cream may be unnecessary.

Results of cold paraffin therapy for hands

After applying cold paraffin, the skin remains moisturized for a long time, soft and velvety to the touch. The effect persists even after wearing gloves, doing household chores, taking a bath.

Cold paraffin itself is much safer and easier to use than hot paraffin, because it can be used at home without problems, carrying out the procedure 1-2 times a week.

Paraffin hand masks are very widely used in salons. They are recommended to be done after a manicure to moisturize the skin and strengthen the nails. For the procedure using warm paraffin, it is heated in a special bath, and then applied to the client's hands several times in a row, and after a while it is removed. This method has certain contraindications: for example, increased skin sensitivity, arterial hypertension. In addition, some are afraid to do this procedure in the salon for hygiene reasons or simply become intolerant of hot. Especially for people who would not like to apply hot paraffin to the skin, cold paraffin for hands was invented.

What is cold paraffin?

This is the name of the cream, the main component of which is paraffin, but it is supplemented with other components that make it possible to apply it in a cold way.

The composition of most of these creams is very similar. They usually include:

  • paraffin,
  • lanolin,
  • vitamin ingredients,
  • biologically active substances,
  • wax.

Also, most of them add fragrances or essential oils (they allow you to produce creams with different smells) and dyes to give the product a pleasant shade. The composition may vary, but one thing remains the same: paraffin.

By consistency, these products are quite dense, but when applied to the skin of the hands, they soften from their heat.

The cost of cold paraffin starts from 300 rubles for a jar of 250 ml. Moreover, more expensive products are not necessarily the most effective for your skin.

How does cold paraffin work?

The action of this tool is similar to hot paraffin, only it is much more convenient and easier to use. It is applied to the skin unchanged, and heated by the heat of your body. What effect can be expected from cold paraffin hand masks?

  • Moisturizing the skin, softening it, normalizing the hydro-lipid balance. The cream is well suited for dry skin of the hands, it helps to fight dehydration, for example, in winter.
  • Elimination of burrs.
  • Crack prevention.
  • Return of skin firmness, elasticity.
  • Anti-aging effect - the cream smoothes fine wrinkles.
  • Strengthening nails, eliminating their fragility.
  • Cuticle softening.
  • Treatment of corns, coarsening of the skin.
  • Healing of microcracks and wounds.
  • Improving the appearance of the skin in various skin diseases (psoriasis, ichthyosis, hyperkeratosis).
  • Protection of the skin of the hands from the aggressive effects of the environment.

Moreover, the skin of the hands after the paraffin mask becomes tender, but not greasy. The effect of the procedure is maintained for several days. Even after taking a bath, washing dishes and other effects on the skin of water and detergents, it retains elasticity and softness.

For the face, cold paraffin cannot be used: it is intended only for the skin of the hands or feet.

Benefits of cold paraffin

  • There are very few contraindications. For example, paraffin cream is an excellent alternative to hot paraffin for people with heart failure (in this disease, hot masks are contraindicated on the hands).
  • Hygienic. Hot wax is usually used repeatedly until it runs out. Each time it is heated, a brush (or hands completely) is dipped into it, in the salons a bath is used for this - one for all clients. And although salons carefully monitor the cleanliness of equipment, cold paraffin in this sense is not only more hygienic, it is almost perfect: it is scooped out of a jar with a special spatula and applied to the skin of the hands. Reapplication is not provided.
  • It is inexpensive. One jar of paraffin cream is enough for a long time. If you regularly do the hot paraffin procedure, it is much more expensive - both in the salon and at home (in this case, you need to buy not only the paraffin itself, but also a bath for heating it, which also consumes electricity).
  • Convenient to use. Cold paraffin is already ready for use, no additional equipment is needed for this. It does not need to be melted, and it is applied much more conveniently: for example, with a brush, and then distributed over the skin with light massaging movements.
  • Nice to use any time of the year. Unlike hot paraffin: when it is very hot outside, many refuse the procedure, because they don’t want to expose the body to additional heat effects.

You can make masks from cold paraffin 1 - 2 times a week all year round. To prolong the effect, the skin should be maintained with nourishing and moisturizing creams between treatments.

Hand masks, which include paraffin, are sold in cosmetics stores, where you can also buy a special brush for applying them. Hands will require disposable polyethylene gloves, or another option is special reusable gloves for cosmetic procedures.

Steps for applying cream-paraffin:

  1. stage. Preparing the skin for the procedure. First you need to thoroughly clean your hands: wash them with soap, wipe dry (this will remove dirt and residues of other cosmetics). Then the hands should be wiped with a tonic and a peeling scrub should be done to remove dead skin cells. At this stage, you can do a manicure, process and remove the cuticle.
  2. stage. Applying a nourishing cream or serum. It is not necessary to do this, because paraffin itself already contains substances and oils that are beneficial for the skin. But if you apply a hand serum or some kind of effective cream, their effect will be enhanced under the influence of a paraffin mask and heat.
  3. stage. Applying paraffin. Cover the skin of your hands with a dense layer of the product, put on plastic gloves, and then cover your hands with something warm, such as a towel (you can just put on mittens). The duration of the procedure should be at least 15 minutes, but you can leave the mittens on for longer - up to 60 minutes. Paraffin during this time will be absorbed almost completely.
  4. stage. Removal of residues. To do this, use a soft dry cloth. The cream should not be washed off with water, then the procedure will be more effective, because after it is completed, the absorbed cream will continue to act on the skin.
  5. stage. Final. To fix the result, apply a moisturizing, protective hand cream to the skin. You can choose a product from the same line as the paraffin cream, or you can use your favorite cream that suits you best.

The use of special cosmetic gloves allows you to make paraffin masks for hands without interrupting your work: the mask works, and you, for example, do your homework.

Contraindications

This method of hand skin care has very few contraindications, but they still exist. You can not use the cream-prafin to people who have:

  • Abrasions, deep wounds on the skin.
  • Ulcers, boils.
  • Diseases caused by a fungus, virus or bacterial.
  • Neoplasms on the skin.
  • Allergy to paraffin.
  • You can use cold paraffin not only for the skin of the hands. It perfectly softens dry, rough skin on the elbows, and many people use it for their legs: heels and knees after such a cream become just perfect.
  • Paraffin masks should be done before you paint your nails. In salons, it is usually applied before a manicure is done, and after the procedure, the master starts painting the nails.
  • It is better to do the procedure of paraffin therapy at night. So the product will have time to completely absorb into the skin of the hands, and its effect will be even more noticeable.
  • Manufacturers of paraffin cream usually produce a whole line of products: from tonic for pre-cleansing the skin and ending with a cream for everyday hand skin care. Using them, you can achieve the maximum effect from the paraffin therapy procedure, however, this is not at all necessary, you can limit yourself to buying paraffin cream.
  • You can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the paraffin cream: then the paraffin therapy procedure will also turn into aromatherapy. The main thing is not to overdo it with oils and remember that each of them has a different effect.

If you have already tried hot paraffin for hands in a beauty salon, you should also take a closer look at products with cold paraffin - it is much easier and more convenient to use them, and the effect will definitely please you.
