There is another good formula for calculating the optimal ratio at 50-55 years old or any other age of a man. It is necessary to measure height in centimeters and subtract 110 or 100 from it (up to 40 and after 40 years, respectively). The resulting value is the optimal weight for a person with a normosthenic physique.

For asthenics, the resulting parameter is reduced by 10%, and for hypersthenics, it is increased by 10%. There is another option for calculating the Brock formula without taking into account the physique, but adjusted for age. Of course, this way you will get an average parameter.

From height in centimeters, the number 100, 105 or 110 should be subtracted, depending on the height itself:

  • 100 - when height is less than 165 cm;
  • 105 - if you are 166-175 cm tall;
  • 110 - for men above 176 cm.

The number obtained by the formula is the norm for people aged 40-50 years. For young people under 30, you need to reduce the resulting value by 10-12 percent, and for men over 50-53, you need to increase the initial figure by 5-7 percent.

Body types

As you already understood, in some cases, to calculate which ratio is considered optimal, you need to take into account the physique. There are three types in total:

  • Hypersthenic. Men with such a physique have short limbs with a neck, and rather broad shoulders. The figure as a whole looks strong, stocky and squat.
  • Normostenik. Such a physique in proportional men with a normal build.
  • Asthenic. These are people with long arms, legs and neck, narrow shoulders. They are usually wiry and drier due to minimal fat deposits.

It is not difficult to identify the type of physique for the subsequent calculation of ideal height and weight, with or without age. It is necessary to do the simplest manipulations. Grasp the wrist of the second limb with one hand and try to connect the thumb with the index finger in the place of the protruding bone:

The formula is based on the fact that with a height of 152.4 centimeters, a person should weigh 45 kg, and 900 g is added for every 2.45 cm.
