Crochet clothes for dolls. How to knit clothes for a doll? This is not a difficult matter

Good afternoon

It's no secret that girls love to play with dolls.

Dolls are different. Now small dolls have appeared on the market, the size of which is only 10.5 cm. And clothes for dolls are not of very good quality. Therefore, they have to come up with a wardrobe for them on their own. One option is to crochet the doll’s dress yourself.

To knit a dress for a doll, we need:

  1. White and yellow cotton threads.
  2. Hook 1.5 mm thick.
  3. Thread and needle.
  4. Decorative button.

Explanation of abbreviations:

VP - air loops.

СС – connecting column.

Dc - double crochet.

RLS – single crochet.

We begin to knit a dress for the doll.

First we knit the top of the dress for the doll

1. We collect a chain that will consist of 16 air loops (VP).

2. We make a ring from VP. Let's do 2 VPs for lifting.

3. We make a set of 31 double crochets (DC) under a chain of VP.

4. We make a lift from 4 VP.

5. From each top of the columns of the previously knitted row, we collect 1 DC + VP one by one.

6. We connect the row with a connecting post (CC).

7. Cut the thread and thread it to the wrong side. The top of the dress is ready.

We knit the bottom of a dress for a doll

8. To do this, attach a yellow thread.

9. We collect 3 VP and make a CCH under the same arch. Then we make a set of 4 more dcs (we grab the tops of each dc of the previously connected row and under each VP).

10. To make cutouts for the arms, you need to skip 9 dcs. Insert the hook into the 10th column.

11. Starting from this column, we dial 16 dc.

12. We skip 9 more dcs. Starting from the 10th column, we dial 10 dcs. We close the series SS.

13. Let's perform a set of 3 VPs to start the next row.

14. We type single crochets (RS). In this case, it is necessary to skip 1 DC in the previously knitted row. This is how we get arches from three VPs.

15. At the end of the row, we will perform 1 VP and together we will make a DC at the beginning of the row.

16. We do the lift from 3 VP again.

17. We knit a row of arches along the wrong side. We knit sc under the arches of the previous row.

18. We finish the row the same way as the previous one.

19. We knit a row of arches along the front side. We finish the row in the same way as the two rows previously connected.

20. We collect 3 VP for the next row.

21. We knit a DC in the first arch.

22. In the next arch and in all the others we knit 3 dc.

23. We close the row with the help of SS in the third VP of the beginning of the row.

24. Knit the next row. We are picking up the climb.

25. We knit a dc into the top of the column of the previously knitted row.

26. We carry out similar work to the end of the row.

27. We collect VP, and then 3 SSN under the first arch.

28. Until the end of the row, we make a set of 4 SSN and VP under each of the arches.

29. Connect the beginning and end of the row.

30. We get a dress 5.5 cm long.We decorate the dress with a decorative button.

And we try on the dress we knitted on the doll.

Crochet doll dress

Crochet doll dress

This is how you can crochet a dress for a doll. The knitting process itself did not take very much time. So why buy clothes for dolls if you can knit them yourself?

P.S. And of course, a dress for a doll can not only be knitted, but also sewn. You can watch the master class “Sew a dress for a Barbie doll”

All little girls, and sometimes some boys too, love to play with dolls. There is nothing surprising about this. After all, by communicating with a doll or other inanimate animals, children learn to communicate with each other and begin to understand what it means to be a parent. It’s not for nothing that girls play: their maternal instinct and sense of neatness are more developed and they have a desire to create comfort.

By watching a child play with dolls, you can roughly determine what kind of father or mother he will become for his child in the future.

How to knit clothes for a doll

Of course, every girl wants her doll to be the most elegant, so that she has the best dresses, shoes, and accessories. Therefore, little princesses themselves try to learn how to knit or sew clothes for a doll. If it doesn’t work out, their mothers help them.

Clothing can be knitted or crocheted. The most important thing is to successfully choose the color and model of future clothing. Thanks to this, the young housewife learns to dress stylishly, choose suitable clothes for herself, and develops a taste for beauty.

Beginning of work

You need to choose the right size knitting needles or hook. If the size is large, the product will turn out loose and will hang down. First you need to take measurements. Just like for a person, for a doll you need to correctly measure the length of the sleeve, the product itself, the length of the pants, the circumference of the head, neck, body, and so on. If this is not done, the knitted product will turn out smaller or larger in size.

You can use either wool or cotton threads.

Usually dresses start to be knitted from the neck. Knitting patterns can be different: stocking elastic, strokes, diamonds, shells and others. Regardless of the choice of pattern, the knitted one will turn out beautiful and original if the needlewoman tries hard.

You can knit and crochet not only interesting styles of dresses, but also unusual headwear: hats, caps, caps, scarves, headbands. The shoes and boots on the legs of your favorite toy are very beautiful. It is necessary to complement knitted clothing with various knitted accessories: handbags, clutches, umbrellas, scarves and so on. You can add various ribbons, bows, and flowers to the resulting product, which can be made from satin ribbons, felt and fleece.

Crocheted clothes for dolls can come in a variety of patterns. To begin with, air loops are collected. Then the next and subsequent rows are knitted according to the pattern (double crochets, single crochets, half double crochets, concave and convex double crochets).

An example of knitting a wedding dress for a doll

To make the dress very beautiful and chic, you can use, in addition to white thread, pink, blue, green, black and others. These colors will give the future product creativity and completeness.

The main color is white. Knitting begins with the bodice. The required number of air loops is placed on the hook. For example, for Barbie - 27 loops. Using single crochets, 17 rows are knitted. Buttons for fastening are attached to the back of the future dress.

Next the skirt is knitted. It should turn out luxurious so that a frame can be attached under it to make the dress more airy. Fifty-two stitches are cast, and the number of rows depends on the required height of the skirt. Knitted with double crochets in the round. The sleeves are knitted with double crochet and single crochet. In certain places, a second, pre-selected color is added. All parts are sewn together and complemented with the necessary details: veil, skirt frame, handbag, sparkles, rhinestones, flowers, and so on.

There are many patterns on how to knit clothes for a doll in books on needlework. But there are much more of them in grandmother’s or mother’s piggy banks. Because at all times girls were fond of knitting.

Having learned how to knit clothes for a doll, you can start knitting for yourself and for your friends and relatives.

For a doll. What to do in such a situation? After all, the product must be very small. Everything is clear with the thickness of the yarn and the size of the hook; they should be as thin as possible. But what about the scheme? Which model should I choose to make it easy to knit and at the same time make crocheted doll dresses look no worse than store-bought ones?

Bodice

To shorten the description of how the work is performed, the following notations have been introduced:

A knitted dress is usually made fitted, so the bodice will almost always be the same. But the remaining elements will have significant differences. For example, the sleeve can be made short or long, wide or narrow. The description above shows a flashlight sleeve.

Sleeve

The entire product will not be sewn; the elements must be knitted onto those that already exist. To continue crocheting a dress for a doll, you need to do this: place the bodice with the wrong side facing you.

If you want to knit a long sleeve, then you need to repeat the first row several times. And then finally knit the pattern that was indicated for the second row of the short sleeve. If you don’t want to sew the parts together, then here you will need to knit in the round.

Collar

You can leave the doll's dress without it. But with a collar it will look more impressive and elegant. So, to knit a collar on a dress (crocheted) for a Barbie doll, you need to cast on a chain of 70 loops, the first of which will be used for lifting.

In the first row you need to knit 69 BN columns. The second one must be knitted with the same elements and in the same quantity after one lifting loop. You only need to grab the back half-loops of the vertices of the previous row. In the same way, you need to knit 9 more rows.

In the eleventh row, after one chain stitch, knit 29 sc, repeat four times: two sc with one top and sc, then another 28 sc. The last row will act as a binding. It starts with a BN column, then until the end of the row you need to repeat the following pattern: 3 air stitches, a decrease and a BN column.

For fastening, it is convenient to use a hook, which must be sewn to the ends of the penultimate row.

The fourth (largest) part of a doll's dress: skirt

This item of clothing may also vary. It can be large and wide or narrow and short. And someone will want to make the skirt of the dress long and tapered. Each time you will get a new special dress for the doll (crocheted). The wide skirt pattern is shown below. First, you need to place the bodice of the dress with the front side facing you and the waist up. Then the work should be carried out according to the plan indicated below. Moreover, it is necessary to take into account that in each row or circle you need to make 4 loops for lifting.

  • Row 1: two dc2c in one loop (hereinafter referred to as “extension”) in 24 base stitches of the bodice and another dc2dc in the last top.
  • 2nd row: dc2dc, extension - must alternate until the end of the row, which should end with one dc2dc.
  • 3rd row: knitted similarly to the second, only an increase must be made every two dcs.
  • 4th row: now the addition is supposed to be done every three double stitches.
  • Gradually increase the number of columns between additions until the ninth row. In it, the distance between additions should be 7 st2CH. Moreover, from the fifth row, knitting should go in a circle.
  • The 10th circle repeats the ninth.
  • 11th round of the doll's dress skirt: 8 dc2dc and one increase must be alternated to the end of the row, completed with one dc2dc.
  • The 12th round is supposed to be knitted in the same way as the eighth. The same will be 14, 16, 18-22.
  • Round 13: dc2dc in the base loop of the rise, 10 dc2dc and the increase must be alternated until the end of the row, 10 dc2dc.
  • In the 14th circle of the doll's dress skirt, knit 15 trebles with one increase, then repeat these elements until the end of the circle until there are 7 loops left, perform trebles in them.
  • The 17th circle consists only of dc2s, which are knitted behind the back walls of the loops.

This hem should be worn with a frame. It can be made from thick cardboard rings connected with thick threads. Make sure that the frame is not visible from under the hem. This skirt can already be left in this form, but the girls want to make decorations to make the dress for the doll elegant. For these purposes, you can use thin satin ribbons gathered into bows. The decoration can be crocheted lace or roses.

Frill at the hem

To make a crocheted dress for a Barbie doll look formal, a simple lace hem pattern will come in handy. To make it, you need to place the dress with the front side facing you and the hem up. Then find the circle where the 16th row ended. His front half-loops were left unknitted. The lace frill will be made on them.

Dress decoration: rose

It’s not enough to just know, you will also have to make decorations for it with crochet. On a chain of 24 loops, knit a sc in the 6th of them, then repeat until the end of the row - chain 3 and sc in the second loop. All that remains is to fasten the thread and fold the rosette, sewing it from the wrong side.

Included with the doll dress: hat

Knit 6 SS on a slip stitch. Then, gradually adding loops, make a circle. Its diameter should be about 3.5 cm. It should be followed by circles without adding. They will form the crown of the cap. Its fields should again be knitted with a large number of SS additions. Along the edge of the hat, tie an openwork pattern for a lace frill. To make the hat look beautiful, it needs to be starched.

There is probably no girl who would not be happy with new clothes for her favorite dolls. Knitting is a great way to replenish your toy wardrobe. You don’t have to be an experienced craftswoman to learn how to knit a dress for dolls, which we will consider later, you just need to have the knowledge of a beginner and a great desire. Once you learn how to knit such a simple warp, you can come up with and play with hundreds of designs on your own.

A doll with a height of 41 cm was chosen as a model. We will knit the dress for this doll on circular knitting needles, using children's acrylic yarn in three colors - it is soft and inexpensive, easy to knit, perfect for toys and accessories. Leftovers will also work; you need about 30 grams of each color of yarn. For those who find it difficult to close loops with knitting needles, you will need a hook. If you want to do embroidery, as in the photo, then you need a needle with a wide eye. Well, buttons or Velcro as a fastener.

Let's get to work: knitting will go from the neck of the dress to the bottom, and the sleeves are not knitted separately, but will be made from the main fabric. This type is called "raglan". We cast on 36 loops on the knitting needles. We look at the diagram: 4 loops, indicated by circles, will be raglan.

Raglan scheme

1. Cast on 36 loops.

2. First row - purl loops. Next, in all front rows - knit stitches, in purl rows - purl stitches (you will get a knit stitch without patterns). Increases begin from the third row. In general, in each row of the front side, an increase is made to the left and right of the raglan loops. It turns out that in the third row 8 increases were made (two for each raglan loop) and there are already 44 loops on the knitting needles.

3. Using the same principle (making increases in each front row before and after the raglan loop), we continue to knit until, when trying on the doll, the part closes in the armpits.

4. As soon as the desired length is reached, from now on we stop adding loops. We knit the back and front in simple satin stitch, and close off the loops on the sleeves. The thread is not interrupted anywhere.

5. This is how it should turn out if everything was done correctly: the sleeves were shaped.

6. Now we move all the loops together and knit a straight fabric to the waist.

7. Take yarn of the second color. On the front side there is one row of knit stitches and on the wrong side there is again a row of knit stitches - this will create a relief strip.

8. In the row following the relief strip, we make increases every three loops. The hem of the skirt widens. After three rows of stockinette stitch we knit a row with increases. There are 10-15 rows just straight, depending on the desired length of the hem of the doll’s dress.

9. Embossed stripe with yarn of a different color.

10. A row where every three loops are increased, and straight knitting until the very end, that is, the desired length. When finished, close the loops. I purled this so the edge ended up curling outward. The result is a wide piece that, when stitched, will miraculously turn into a dress.

11. We decorate the future dress knitted for the doll with yarn embroidery. Since it turned out to be quite simple, it would be nice to focus on decoration. The photo shows how to easily embroider flowers.

12. We complement the embroidery plot with beads and curls.

13. Fold the dress and sew the hem. We will arrange a fastener on the back. If you knitted a dress for a little girl, then Velcro would be best. Nowadays it is easy to find in any craft store. In my case, the girl already knows how to fasten buttons, so I use them. We sew buttons on one side and yarn loops on the other.

14. Admiring the finished dress. If necessary, wash and steam with an iron.
