Discussion of the article

How to knit a Curl pattern? This question was asked by one of my subscribers. I also wondered what kind of openwork pattern it was and what kind of knitting technology it had. There was a lot of information on the Internet, and I decided to make a video lesson so that everyone who wants to can learn how to knit such a pattern. The curl pattern is considered a popular French pattern and has another name - "Scroll".
In addition, it turned out that this pattern underlies some types of the Missoni pattern.
Please note that when knitting this pattern, when knitting two loops together (both front and back), it is necessary to observe the slope to the right or left in accordance with the diagram. Otherwise, the pattern is easy to knit.
Description:
The number of loops should be a multiple of 10 + 2 loops + 2 edge loops, for example, if you need to repeat the pattern 3 times: 10 * 3 + 2 + 2 \u003d 34 loops.
1 row: 1 person., * yarn, 8 persons., 2 together with the front with a slope to the right, * 1 person.
2 row: 1 out., * 2 together out. with a slope to the right, 7 out., yarn, 1 out., * 1 out.
3 row: 1 person., * 2 persons., nakid, 6 persons., 2 together with the front with a slope to the right, * 1 person.
4 row: 1 out., * 2 together out. with a slope to the right, 5 out., yarn over, 3 out., * 1 out.
5 row: 1 person., * 4 persons., yarn over, 4 persons., 2 together with the front with a slope to the right, * 1 persons.
6 row: 1 out., * 2 together out. with a slope to the right, 3 out., yarn over 5 out., * 1 out.
7 row: 1 person., * 6 persons., yarn over, 2 persons., 2 together with the front with a slope to the right, * 1 persons.
8 row: 1 out., * 2 together out. with a slope to the right, 1 out., yarn over, 7 out., * 1 out.
9 row: 1 person., * 8 persons., nakid, 2 together with the front with a slope to the right, * 1 person.
10 row: purl 1, * yarn over, purl 8, purl 2 together with an inclination to the left, * purl 1.
11 row: 1 person., * 2 together front with a slope to the left, 7 persons., yarn over, 1 person, * 1 person.
12 row: purl 1, * purl 2, yarn over, purl 6, purl 2 together with an inclination to the left, * purl 1.
13 row: 1 person., * 2 together front with a slope to the left, 5 persons., nakid, 3 persons, * 1 persons.
14 row: purl 1, * purl 4, yarn over, purl 4, purl 2 together with a tilt to the left, * purl 1.
15 row: 1 person., * 2 together front with an inclination to the left, 3 persons., yarn over, 5 persons, * 1 persons.

Repeat rows 1-18.

The scheme of the pattern "Curl"

Attention! The diagram shows both front and back rows.

I used Semenov yarn (100% acrylic, 100 g / 438 m), hook No. 2.5.

I found this interesting diagram on the Internet.

The description here is in Spanish (which I, unfortunately, do not speak), so I knitted as I understood. Next, I will show you step by step how I did it.

Master Class.

Take dark yarn. Make an air loop, wrap the tail of the thread with a ring.

Crochet a single crochet, a half double crochet, and a single crochet.

Set aside the dark yarn (I first pulled out a long loop so that the knitting does not bloom) and take the light one. Make an air loop.

Tie a single crochet into the initial ringlet, as if continuing knitting.

Work a half double crochet and a double crochet. Now you need to slightly tighten the dark thread to reduce the ring. Double crochet 2 into the first dark stitch.

Then work 2 more double crochets in the next 2 loops.

Set aside the light thread and knit again with a dark one in the first 3 light loops, 2 double crochets each.

Continue knitting, alternating 1 double crochet and 2 double crochets in one loop. Now you will get 3 such alternations (and there will be 5 in total).

Continue knitting with a light thread. Also make 5 alternations of the 1st and 2nd double crochets.

Finish knitting with a dark thread, knitting 2 more times alternating the 1st and 2nd double crochets, and then repeat 2 times in each light loop: 1 double crochet, 1 double crochet, 2 double crochets.

Similarly, finish knitting with a light thread (1 st.s / n, 1 st.s / n, 2 sts.s / n, 1 st.s / n, 1 st.s / n, 2 sts.s / n).

Now you need to tighten the initial ring (pull up the dark thread and tie a knot with the light one).

They got like this.

Now we need to connect them. To do this, combine the pattern of the same color and thread the ends of the threads, as shown in the photo (if it is hard to see, click on the picture).

Tie knots, fasten and cut the ends of the threads.

You have a pattern crochet curls.

You can make a belt or sew on as a decoration, for example, on.

Master class on crocheting jewelry for a vest with Irish lace "Curl".

In order to complete the curl, first we knit the caterpillar cord. In the photos below I show how this cord is knitted.

We carry out the length of the cord to the edge of the curl, we look at the selected length on the product.
We knit a chain of 6 air loops. In the 3rd loop we knit a single crochet. In 4, 5 and 6 loops, 5 columns with one crochet.

Then we knit 5 columns with a crochet, 2 half-columns, 1 column without a crochet. Insert 1 air loop between the columns. These posts cling to the cord. We pull the loops from the wrong side of the cord, not over the edge.

We turn the knitting and knit single crochets for the front wall of the lower loops. Depending on how long the curl should be, we knit so many columns. The fewer bars, the longer the curl will be.

According to the principle of the first curl, we perform the second curl. We knit again a chain of 6 air loops, on it are the columns of the curl itself and proceed to knit the columns on the back wall of the bottom row. It turns out a scar on the face from the single crochet of the previous row.

At the end, I knitted 3 curls without gaps on the air loop and at the end I made a chain of 4 air loops into which I knitted 3 single crochets.

We carry out other elements of decoration.

leaflet

Along the contour, I tied it with single crochets. The base is a pigtail, made of air loops, tied with single crochets. To get a bend, we knit several columns in one loop.

Rostock

Basis cord "Caterpillar". Connected by the end into a curl, arches of 3 air loops are made along the edge of the cord, which are tied with single crochets.

Attach all details to knitted product and baste with a thread of a contrasting color.
Sew along the edge of the Irish lace with blind stitches. The cord is sewn on both sides. No need to sew on "tightly - you can't tear it off", if you want to change the decoration, it should be easily removed. The threads with which it is sewn are tucked from the inside of the main knitted product.
