Gospel of the Egyptians. An ancient Egyptian papyrus with a new gospel has been discovered. It says that Jesus was married The gospel of the Egyptians

During the 10th International Congress of Coptic Studies, Professor Karen King of Harvard University (USA) reported on a recent find: an ancient Egyptian papyrus that provided evidence that Jesus was married.

Papyrus of Ancient Egypt and Christianity

Such meetings are held every four years. This 2014 meeting was held at the Vatican Institutum Patristicum Augustinianum in Rome, Italy. Researcher King Hollis of Harvard University presented a fragment of an ancient text, four words from which are translated as "Jesus said to them: my wife." These words were written in the Coptic language characteristic of early Egyptian Christianity. The size of the fragment of the letter was only 1 by 2 cm.

King explained that in Christian tradition it is accepted that Jesus was unmarried. However, no evidence of the historical fact was presented. Thanks to the discovery of a new gospel, it became known that Jesus had a wife. From the earliest period of the formation of the Christian faith, its adherents were opposed to not marrying. But this happened only a few centuries after the crucifixion.

According to experts, Roger Bagnall, head of Study of the Ancient World (New York) and Cope language expert Ariel Shisha-Halevi of the Hebrew University (), the papyrus fragment is authentic. The Scientific Council will conduct an analysis of the chemical composition of the material and ink on the artifact in order to determine its age.

The text of the letter on papyrus consists of only eight lines. The letters are hard to distinguish. However, a few words and letters are clearly visible. Despite the antiquity of the papyrus, one can read teachings on marriage and family written by early Coptic Christians on it.

Papyrus of ancient Egypt recognized as part of the new gospel

King and his colleague, professor of religion at Princeton University, AnneMarie Luijendijk, opined that the written source is an excerpt from the New Gospel. Artifact content published in Harvard Theological Review.

A fragment of the letter was submitted by a private collector to King for translation and analysis of its content. Together with him, he handed over an explanation by Professor Gerhard Vecht from the Free University (Berlin), where it was stated that the letter provided evidence of the marital relationship of Jesus.

For the first time, the collector showed a piece of papyrus to King in 2010. The scientist looked at the artifact and declared that it was of no historical value. In 2011, King worked with Bagnall and Luijendijk to further verify the authenticity of the letter. After that, work began on translating the letter.

As a result, it was possible to find out that the papyrus of Ancient Egypt was written in the old Coptic language, which was used by Christians in the Roman period. Perhaps the fragment was found during archaeological research in a pile of rubbish, as was the case with all parts of the New Testament. The lettering on both sides of the fragment suggests that it was torn from a book, but not from a scroll, Lujendijk concluded.

Scholars called this part of the gospel the "Gospel of the Wife of Jesus." It is assumed that it was originally written in Greek and then translated by the Copts into their own language. The age of the artifact refers to the second half of the 2nd century AD. Its text is closely related to the Gospel of Mary, the Gospel of Philip, and the Gospel of Thomas that existed at that time.

Authorship probably belongs to one of the followers of Jesus, but his name remains unknown. “The papyrus fragment is so small that it does not provide us with any further information about the circumstances of the origin of this letter,” King concluded.

The main theme of the epistle is the dialogue between Jesus and his disciples about the manifestation of tolerance towards their families. Twice the mother is mentioned and once the wife, Mary, Jesus. They discuss whether she can be his student. Scripture is similar to the early Gospel of Philip, where marriage is a manifestation of divine unity.

Bottom line: is marriage allowed by Christianity?

The early Christians preached the idea of being alone and living without a family. The fact that Jesus was unmarried is confirmed by Clement of Alexandria. His writings contain information that the idea of marriage was initially rejected in Christianity. This social phenomenon was considered fornication, inspired by the devil. It was believed that people were not supposed to enter into marriage relationships like Jesus.

20 years after the events at Golgotha, Tertullian stated that since Jesus had no family, Christians should act like him. He condemned marriage with widows and widowers. The New Testament in the Epistle to Timothy contains an institution about the prohibition of marriage, which is a consequence of the suggestions of demons. This is explained by the fact that Jesus did not enter into a marriage relationship.

As a result, it was affirmed that the withdrawal from public life is the highest manifestation of aspiration to God. Marriage was created only for procreation.

The discovery of a new gospel of the Wife of Jesus provides material for study and gives rise to a rethinking of the life of Jesus and Christian dogmas regarding the family and the crown of celibacy. It reverses traditional beliefs in religion that Jesus was unmarried.

Papyrus of Ancient Egypt. New Gospel

Relating to the finds at Nag Hammadi (1945).

The Gospel of the Egyptians is presented in two Coptic versions, translated from Greek independently of each other and named the same in both cases. It has nothing to do with the apocryphal "Gospel of the Egyptians", which is quoted in patristic literature and in particular by Clement of Alexandria. This treatise, also titled Holy Book of the Great Invisible Spirit, is esoteric text representing the Sethian type of Gnosticism.

The introduction contains a typical Gnostic reference to the presence of an invisible Spirit and states:

Three powers came from him; they are: the Father, the Mother, (and) the Son, from the living silence that proceeds from the incorruptible Father. These came from the silence of the unknown Father.

Apocrypha reports the birth of the great power of Mirotoi the first man - the indestructible Adamas: " he is the first person through whom and (for whose sake) everything arose, (and) without him nothing would have arisen».

The Gospel of the Egyptians quoted by Clement of Alexandria has nothing to do with the Gospel of the Egyptians from Nag Hammadi. Clement quotes Jesus' direct statements against procreation and flesh, and the text of Nag Hammadi not only contains no such, but is entirely devoted to Sethian gnosis and cosmology. These are two different gospels.

Excerpt from the Gospel of the Egyptians

When it is no longer possible to stretch further such elastic threads of historical reasoning, when the action is already clearly contrary to what all mankind calls good and even justice, historians have a saving concept of greatness. Greatness seems to exclude the possibility of a measure of good and bad. For the great - there is no bad. There is no horror that can be blamed on one who is great.
- "C" est grand! [This is majestic!] - say historians, and then there is no good or bad, but there is "grand" and "not grand". Grand is good, not grand is bad. Grand is a property, according to their concepts, of some special animals, which they call heroes. And Napoleon, getting home in a warm coat from not only dying comrades, but (in his opinion) people brought here by him, feels que c "est grand, and his soul is at peace.
“Du sublime (he sees something sublime in himself) au ridicule il n "y a qu" un pas, ”he says. And the whole world repeats for fifty years: “Sublime! Grand! Napoleon le grand! Du sublime au ridicule il n "y a qu" un pas. [majestic... There is only one step from majestic to ridiculous... Majestic! Great! Great Napoleon! From majestic to ridiculous, only a step.]
And it would never occur to anyone that the recognition of greatness, immeasurable by the measure of good and bad, is only the recognition of one's insignificance and immeasurable smallness.
For us, with the measure of good and bad given to us by Christ, there is nothing immeasurable. And there is no greatness where there is no simplicity, goodness and truth.

Which of the Russian people, reading the descriptions of the last period of the 1812 campaign, did not experience a heavy feeling of annoyance, dissatisfaction and ambiguity. Who did not ask themselves questions: how they did not take away, did not destroy all the French, when all three armies surrounded them in superior numbers, when the frustrated French, starving and freezing, surrendered in droves, and when (as history tells us) the goal of the Russians was precisely that, to stop, cut off and take prisoner all the French.

Then a cloud of great light appeared from that place, a living force, the mother of saints, indestructible, great power, Mirotoya. And she gave birth to the one whose name I call, saying, Yen Yen Ea Ea Ea, three times.

For he, Adamas, is the light from the light, he is the eye of the light. For he is the first man through whom and (for whose sake) everything came into being, (and) without him nothing would have come into existence.

An inconceivable, incomprehensible Father has come into being. He descended to make up for a deficiency.

Then the great Logos, the divine Autogenes, and the indestructible man Adamas merged with each other. The Logos of man arose, but man originated through the word.

He gave praise to the great, invisible, incomprehensible, virgin Spirit, and the male virgin, and the thrice male child, and the male virgin Juel, and the glorious Esepheh, he is the child of the child and the holder of his glory, and the great aeon Doxomedon, and the thrones that are in him, and the powers around him, the glories and inviolability, and all their Pleroma, of which I have already spoken, and the land of the air, the abode of God, where holy people take the form of a great light, the people of the Father, the silence of the living silence, the Father and all their Pleroma, as I already said.

The great Logos, the divine Autogenes and incorruptible man gave praise, and they asked for power and eternal power for the Autogenes, for the completion of these four eons, so that through them the glory and power of the invisible Father of the holy people of the great light that is coming in a world that has the image of night. The imperishable man Adamas, asked for them a son from himself, so that he (the son) could become the father of an unshakable, imperishable kind, so that through him (this kind) silence and voice would arise, and thanks to this, the mortal zones would rise to be freed.

And thus came from above the power of the great light, Manifestation. She gave birth to four great lights: Harmozel, Oroyael, David and Elele, and the great imperishable Seth, the son of the imperishable man Adamas.

And thus the perfect hebdomada (week), which exists in hidden secrets, became complete. When she gets fame, she becomes eleven hebdomads.

And the Father approved; the whole Pleroma of lights was pleased. Their spouses came to complete the ogdoad of the divine Autogens: Grace - the first light of Harmozel, Attention - the second light of Oroyael, Understanding - the third light of David, Understanding - the fourth light of Eleleus. Such is the first ogdoad of the divine Autogenes.

And the Father approved; the whole Pleroma of lights was pleased. happened<служители>: the first, the great Gamaliel, of the first great light of Harmozel, and the great Gabriel of the second great light of Oroyael, and the great Samlo of the great light of David, and the great Abrasax of the great light of Eleleus. And their spouses came about, by the will of the consent of the Father: Memory of the great, first Gamaliel, Love, the great second Gabriel, Peace - the great third Samblo, eternal Life, the great fourth Abrasax. In this way, five ogdoads were fulfilled, forty in total, an unfathomable power.

Then the great Logos, the Autogenes, and the word of the Pleroma of the four lights gave praise to the great, invisible, unnamed, virginal Spirit, and Muzhedeva, and the great aeon Doxomedon, and the thrones in them, and the forces around them, and the authorities and forces,<и>three times a male child, and the virgin husband Jhuil, and the glorious Esefeh, the child of the child and the crown of his glory, all the Pleroma and all the glories in it, the infinite pleromas<и>unnamed aeons, so that they may call the Father the fourth, with an incorruptible generation, (and) that they may call the seed of the father, the seed of the great Seth.

Then everything shook, and trembling seized the incorruptible. Then, the thrice-male child descended from above, into the unbegotten, and self-begotten, and those who are begotten in the begotten. Greatness has happened - all the greatness of the great Christ. He established thrones in glory, countless myriads, in four zones around them, countless myriads, powers and glories and incorruptibility. And that's how they came into being.

And the incorruptible spiritual church grew in the four lights of the great living Autogen, the god of truth, they praised, sang (and) glorified with one voice, and image, with tireless lips, the Father, and the Mother, and the Son, and the whole Pleroma, as I already said<выше>. Five seals, owning myriads, ruling over the zones and carrying the glory of military leaders, took control and appeared before the worthy. Amen.

Then the great Seth, the son of the imperishable man Adamas, gave praise to the Great invisible, unnamed, nameless, virginal Spirit, and<мужедеве, и трижды мужскому дитяти, и муже>the virgin Jhuil, and the glorious Esephech, and the crown of his glory, (he is) the child of the child, and the great aeons Doxomedon, and the Pleroma, as I said above; and asked for a seed.

Then came from that place the great power of the great light, Plesiteya, the thought of angels, the thought of lights, the glorious thought; she is a virgin with four breasts, bearing fruit from Gomorrah, the fountain, and Sodom, the fruit of the fountain of Gomorrah, in herself. It happened because of the great Seth.

Then the great Seth rejoiced at the mercy bestowed on him from the incorruptible Child, and received his seed from her, the four-breasted virgin, and placed it with him, in the fourth zone, in the third great light, David.

After five thousand years, the great light of Elele said: "Let someone reign over chaos and the underworld." And a cloud appeared, whose name is material Sophia [...] She looked into the regions of chaos, her face looked like [...] in her cloud [...] blood. And the great angel Gamaliel said to the great Gabriel, the minister of the great light of Oroyael; he said, "Let an angel come to reign over chaos and hell." Then the cloud, according to this, appeared in two monads, each of which had light. [...] the throne she placed in the cloud. Then Sakla (s), the great angel, saw the great demon, who is with him, Nebruel. And together they gave birth to the spirit of the earth. And gave birth to helping angels. Sakla said to the great angel Nebruel, "Let there be twelve aeons in [...] aeon, worlds [...]". [...] the great angel Sakla, in accordance with the will of the Self-begotten, "Let there be [...] the number seven [...]." And he said to the great angels, "Go and reign, each one over his own world." Each of these twelve angels came. The first angel is Athos, whom the great generations call [...] The second is Harmas, which means the eye of fire. The third is Kalila-Umbri. The fourth is Jabel. The fifth is Adonaiu, who is called Sabaoth. The sixth is Cain, whom the generations of men call the Sun. Seventh - Abel. Eighth - Abrizena. The ninth is Iobel. The tenth is Armupiel. Eleventh - Melheir-Adonein. The twelfth is Belias. These are the ones who rule over hell and chaos.

And after the foundation of the world, Saklya said to his angels: "I, I am a jealous god, and nothing has arisen except me." Because he believed in himself.

Then a voice came from on high, saying, "Man exists and the Son of Man." Because of the descent of the image of the heavenly, like its voice in height, the image of the one who looked, through the gaze of the image of the heavens, the first creation was created.

Because of this, Metanoia arose. She received fulfillment and strength by the will of the Father and his good pleasure, with which he favored the great imperishable, unshakable family of the great (5) strong people of the great Seth - let him sow him in the en-born, so that through him the deficiency would be filled. For she descended from above into the world, which has the form of night. When she came, she began to ask for the seed of the archon this zone and (for) the powers that came from him - that which is corruptible and perish, (the seed) of the god (25) demon-bearing, and for the seed of Adam and the great Seth, who is like the sun.

Then the great angel Hormos came to prepare this zone through the virgins of perishable birth, in a logo-bearing vessel, holy, through the Holy Spirit, the seed of the great Seth.

Then the great Seth came and brought his seed. And it was sown in the zones of the born, and their number is the measure of Sodom. Others say that Sodom is the place of pasture of the great Seth, it is also Gomorrah; others, that the great Seth took his planting from Gomorrah and planted it in a second place, that which he called Sodom.

This is the lineage that came through the Edokles. For according to the Word she gave birth to truth and legality, the beginning of the seed of eternal life, which is with those who abide through the knowledge of their source. This is a great incorruptible race that came out through the three worlds into the world.

And the flood came, as a model of the fulfillment of the aeon. But it will be sent into the world for the sake of this kind. Fire will come to earth. And those who belong to the family will have mercy through the prophets and intercessors who keep the life of the family. For the sake of this kind, there will be famines and pestilences, temptations, the delusion of false prophets.

Then the great Seth saw the actions of the devil, and his many guises, and his plans, coming upon his kind incorruptible, unshakable, the persecution of his forces and his angels, and their delusion that they dared against themselves.

Then the great Seth gave praise to the Great unnamed (25) virgin spirit, and the masculine Barbelon, and the Thrice-male child, Telmael Telmachael Heli Heli Mahar Mahar Seth, the living power is truly true, and the masculine Jehuil; and the glorious Esephech, and the crown of his glory, and the great aeon Doxomedon, and the thrones in it, and the forces around them, and all the pleroma, as I said above, - and he asked intercessors for his seed.

Then four hundred airy angels came out of the great zone, and with them the great Aerosiel and the great Selmekhel, in order to protect the great incorruptible race, its fruit, and the great people of the great Seth from the time and period of Truth and Law until the fulfillment of the aeon and its archons, those whom the great judges condemned to death.

Then the great Seth was sent from the four lights, by the will of the Self-begotten and the entire pleroma, by the giving and favor of the Great invisible spirit, and the five seals, and the entire pleroma.

He went through the three manifestations that I spoke about above - the flood, the fire and the judgment of the archons, forces and authorities - in order to save that erring race by the restoration of the world and baptism through the logo-begotten body, the great Seth prepared him for himself; in mystery, through a virgin, so that the saints would be born by the Holy Spirit, invisible, secret symbols, in the restoration of the world to the world, renunciation of the world and the god of thirteen aeons, and by the saints called, and indescribable, and incorruptible bosoms, and by the great light of the Father, the pre-existing with his providence and established through her holy baptism, which reaches heaven, through the incorruptible Logobegotten, and the living Jesus, and the one who was given by the great Seth. And he nailed the powers of the thirteen aeons, and through them established those that move to and fro, and armed them with the weapon of the knowledge of truth, the irresistible power of incorruptibility.

The great Upcoming Essene Nazarene Jessedukei, living water, and great commanders appeared to them - the great Jacob, Theopempt, Isauel; and those who are above the source of truth - Micah, Michar and Mnesinus; and those who are over the baptism of the living, and the purifiers, and the Sesengenfaranges; and those above the gates of the waters are Micah and Mihar; and those above the mountain - Seldao and Eleinoye; and the recipients of the great imperishable kind of strong people of the great Seth, the servants of the four lights - the great Gamaliel, the great Gabriel, the great Samblo and the great Abrasax; and those that are above the Sun at its rising are Olses, Hypnaeus, and Chevremai; and, those who are at the entrance to the rest of eternal life; - rulers Mixanter and Mihanor; - and those that guard the souls of the elect - Akraman and Strempsuhos; and the great power of Heli Heli Ma-har Mahar Sif, and the Great invisible, nameless, nameless, virgin Spirit, and Silence, and the great light of Harmozel - the place of the living Self-begotten, the god of truth, and the imperishable man Adamas who is with him; the second, Oroyael - the place of the great Seth and the life-giving Jesus, who came and crucified that which was according to the law; the third is David, the place of the sons of the great Seth; the fourth, Eleleus - the place where the souls of the sons rest, the fifth, Joel - which is above the name of the one to whom it will be given to be baptized with a saint reaching heaven, incorruptible baptism.

But from now on, through the imperishable man Poimael and worthy of the calling of becoming the five seals by the baptism of the source, these will know their recipients, as instructed about them, and will be known by them; these will not taste death.

Here is the book that the great Seth wrote, and laid it in the high mountains, above them the sun did not rise and cannot (rise). And since the days of the prophets, apostles and heralds, this name has never risen above their hearts and cannot, and their ear has not heard it. This book was written by the great Seth in writing, in one hundred and thirty years, and laid it on a mountain named Charaxio, so that at the end of times and terms, by the will of the divine Self-begotten and the entire pleroma, by the will of the incomprehensible, divine Father, she would come out and reveal this imperishable, holy generation of the great the Savior, and those who dwell with him in love, and the great invisible, eternal Spirit, and his only-begotten Son, and the Eternal Light, and his great incorruptible wife, and incorruptible Sophia, and Barbelon, and all the pleroma, forever and ever, Amen .

Gospel (for) the Egyptians. God-written book, sacred and secret. Grace, understanding, understanding, prudence (abide) with the one who wrote it - (with me) Eugnostus, full of love in the spirit, in the flesh, my name Gongessos - is incorruptible with my comrades in the world. Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior. God-written sacred book of the great invisible Spirit. Amen.
