Pillow "Rose" from Oksana Abramova from the Land of Masters. MK. Delightful rose pillow: a master class for connoisseurs of beauty

At the moment, many people would like to have a wonderful rose-shaped pillow in their household. It is not so difficult to make it, the main thing is to have the appropriate motivation. Just look at the photo below. You probably want to get started right away.

What do you need to work?

First of all, you will need a template for the pattern. Its standard size is 56 cm. You also need crepe satin (2 parts of different colors). Requires synthetic winterizer and braid. Take a thick thread and a sewing needle. That's all, such a small set will be enough.

Lay out the fabric at once in a couple of layers, front sides to the top (each wrong side). Transfer the petal pattern (it is best to lay it out as shown in the photo, strictly along the width of the fabric).

Now cut out the petals. In your case, you should get 5 small and 6 large ones. Look at the photo below.

Start sewing on the braid in this order: divide the braid in half cleanly at a glance, and also sew with a simple stitch to the side, which will then become the bottom part. Try not to stretch the braid, after which it will give a visually wavy edge.

Turn the petal over and sew the braid with the so-called "zigzag". The suture is applied and slowly sewn on.

Now all the blanks for the bud are ready.

Stuff everything with synthetic winterizer. Just tear it off in small pieces and put it into the workpiece. At the end, sew the edge with a regular winding seam.

Now you can start assembling. Small petals should be with small ones, and large ones with large ones. The end of the latter must be connected to the former. The screed of the circles must be uniform.

At the next stage, cut out the leaves (the fabric is folded as usual, with the front side inward, since they will need to be turned inside out). The shape turns out to be different, although the height is not less than 30 cm, the width should be in the region of 16-18 cm. Put them on the synthetic winterizer, cut it out, and also stitch it immediately with the synthetic winterizer. Turn inside out. Leaves are better to choose different colors. They just need to match. And the rest depends only on your imagination. .

From the edge of the leaves, it is best to sew a zigzag seam with the largest step. In addition, the veins inside the leaf are stitched with a medium step. Sew everything to the circle (as in the photo). Each piece must be assembled by hand, use strong thread, basting seams, work only in large steps.

At the final stage, the two parts are connected. A small circle with a large one. That's all, now such a decorative pillow is ready. See what the product looks like.

Flower pillows are a wonderful decoration that can make a design unique, highlight a style or emphasize the merits of a particular piece of furniture. In principle, this is far from a newfangled trend. But before becoming a full-fledged work of art - made in the shape of a flower and at the same time functional to a sufficient extent - pillows have come a long way.

Flower pillows - history, idea and ecology

Soft pillows and mattresses were invented in ancient Greece. At that time, the sewing technique became seriously complicated, dyes appeared. The wealthy class could make any orders, experiment, compete in beauty and pretentiousness. Of course, this also applies to pillows. Some products were so good that even a person with a developed taste could confidently call such practical soft jewelry a work of art. Cleverly crafted and enriched with expensive materials, pillows were an excellent commodity. In the 5th century BC, almost every wealthy Greek considered it a duty to have at least a few unusual expensive pillows - and the size, type and method of decoration could vary greatly.

Pillows in the form of flowers or decorated with flowers are another manifestation of human imagination and skill.

Craftsmen of that time had not yet experimented with form (in principle, the simplicity and logic of forms is characteristic of Hellenism). Pillows were rectangular or square. Pillowcases were made from durable fabric or leather.

The Arabs could easily "argue" with the Greeks. In their countries, elegant and ostentatious, the demand for pillows was even greater. In addition, a significant role was played by the traditions of arranging everyday life. The palaces of the sultans were filled with chic, embroidered and decorated, with fringe and tassels, pillows.

In our country, “dumki” became the prototype of a modern pillow - the subject of decorating a room. Now they have evolved into the usual sofa cushions. Dumki were made of silk, respawn, velvet. Decorated with richelieu, embroidery or appliqués.

These pillows will be a great decoration for your bedroom or sofa in the living room.

The type of pillows was largely determined by the limitations of the time: the style familiar to the eye, the materials available with tools, religious and state rules, the economic feasibility of manufacturing.

Today, the idea to create a decorative or decorative-practical pillow in the form of a flower is born by a large number of different housewives under a variety of conditions. Someone's hobby is sewing, the immediate task is sewing a pillow for a child, and in front of his eyes is a flower bed. Someone is engaged in the clothing business and has been puzzling over the expansion of the product line for a long time, or the creation of a unique product that can distinguish the manufacturer from the competition. Someone sees plants characteristic of a particular area (climatic, protected area) - and is lit up with a desire to transfer their beauty to the creation of their own hands.

Fortunately, the eco-movement is becoming more and more popular. Our modest journalistic team is no exception. Taking care of the environment is not only possible, but also necessary. This is the direct duty of every sane housewife. A pillow flower should not harm the owner and others. Although, in general, creating something for a home interior with allergens or dangerous components is at least stupid.

The market offers a fairly large number of environmental, easy-to-use and maintenance options. Tapestries. Sintepon. Silk. Cotton. Threads for embroidery. And a huge variety of other things. It is relatively easy to choose such a set so that the pillow flower turns out to be durable (it lasted more than 10 years), updated (typical colors and textures that can be replaced if some element is worn out) and easy to wash (by hand, in a machine, in cold and hot water).

We offer a master class on making a pillow from thin felt

At the very end, cut out a few circles and form the core of the flower

Do-it-yourself flower pillows are not such a difficult task. Obviously, here you need to adhere to the general principles of needlework. For example, start with sketches and sketches in order to choose the most successful idea and think over the details in advance. Or prescribe a manufacturing plan so that it does not turn out that the product does not hold its shape, because one of the stages was skipped and the internal elements were not attached to the base. In general, this task can be performed by both an amateur and a professional - of course, the results will be strikingly different. Yes, to make a truly cool flower pillow, you need sewing experience, direct experience in creating such pillows, a developed sense of taste and perseverance with patience. A! Another point that should not be put in last place is high-quality consumables with tools. Although, some manage to make real masterpieces from scraps.

You can also make a large flower that can decorate any pillow.

Glue the petals and press them down with some weight

Rose

can be almost any size. But we will stop at about 30 centimeters in diameter. In principle, you can keep within 5-7 hours of work. You will need fabric for leaves and petals, filler, thread and scissors.

Make patterns for the petals. Six for the desired sizes - from larger to smaller.

Make patterns for the leaves. They can be flat or voluminous. You can make one sheet, you can make two or more. At your request. Flat ones need to be decorated with veins. Volumetric - fill very carefully so that the filler evenly disperses in shape and does not make them too thick.

You need 18 petals. Don't forget to stitch them. Then turn it on your face. In the middle, tightly hammer the filler. Sew about one centimeter from the edge.

For such a rose you will need a sewing machine

Need a round base for a pillowcase...

...and a long ribbon

You can experiment with color

Sew the 6 largest petals overlap one by one. The petals should converge in the center and diverge on the outer part.

Try to achieve an outwardly attractive uniform circle of petals.

Do the same with 6 medium and 6 small petals. The result is 3 circles. Sew the smallest one with the middle one. And the middle one with the big one. Start at the base and carefully add stitches towards the middle of the petals so that the overall shape gathers and rises up like a rose.

Sew the leaves underneath. At the end, you need to cut a circle, preferably from green fabric (imitation of the base of the bud). Stitch it and sew on the bottom.

Now we need to make the central part. To do this, cut out a circle of the appropriate size. It can be a more delicate color than the petals. Sew around and pull off. Fill with stuffing. Then sew to the center. The most difficult task is to attach the center firmly and gracefully. So that the whole composition is as similar as possible to a flower.

DIY flower pillow- as we already wrote, a feasible task. But! If you have no experience... You don't have to think that the first rose will be flawless. Many housewives have been perfecting their skills for years, choosing the right colors and textures, inventing little know-how to make the product delicate and attractive. In general, be patient.

And if such a form factor does not lend itself even after a large number of repetitions, try a simpler option.

With this simple pattern, you can sew these lovely pillows

Chamomile

You will need a fabric of the right colors: a green base, white petals, a yellow core and green leaves. Choose the material according to your taste, there are no special recommendations, someone prefers velvet, someone cotton, someone fleece, someone high-quality synthetics. Take chalk (marker), scissors and good fabric glue. Can be done in 3-6 hours.

First you need to cut out two circles. Any size. From a small ottoman to a 30" cushion. Sheathe or assemble with glue along the edges. Leave a hole for stuffing. With a chalk or marker, draw a central small circle for the core and three divergent circles for the petals. The daisy pillow looks very decent with three layers of petals, but you can be lazy and make just 2, or vice versa - try and make a whole bunch of luxurious petals.

Such colored daisies are quite easy to sew. Below are patterns and photos of work

Cut out four leaves. If you really need to, take a sample, but practice shows that the “by eye” method is enough. Add veins (you can carefully collect the grooves with glue, you can sew on top, you can make an appliqué, etc.).

Stuff the pillow with filler and stitch (glue) the hole. It is desirable to cut the remaining edges with a zigzag, to make them more attractive, decorative. Because the products will surely turn over - and the careless edges of the base will cut the eye.

Sew or glue the leaves to the base.

Another chamomile, this time in the form of a pouf

Now cut out many petals. Here, too, the “by eye” method is perfect. They can be wide or narrow, rounded or sharp - it depends on your desires and preferences. It is desirable to make the lower (outer) layers larger. And the upper (internal) ones are smaller. For a good result (of three layers), you will need at least 50 pieces of petals.

Now begin the patient and painstaking work of gluing the petals. Start from the bottom layer. It is most convenient to draw a line along the bottom of the petal. Remember to collect them a little in the center of the base (at the point of attachment) to give a characteristic volume.

As soon as you deal with the outer circle, move on to the next, then to the next. If the size of the petals requires, add a drop in the center on top of the lower layers to better bond with the upper ones.

This chamomile is very easy to make.

Continue adding petals until the stage is complete. Do not forget that you need to distribute in advance: the largest on the bottom layer, medium on the middle, small on the top.

The core remains. Cut out many yellow circles and zigzag the edges of each. In the center of the circle, you need to drop glue and raise the edges so that they gather, and drown the glued part inward. You will get a lot of elements that need to be glued evenly and tightly in the middle. It is important to fill the central part evenly.

Flower pillows (master class) from any well-known seamstress will help remove white spots in the description of the manufacturing process. A product in the form of a camomile can be recommended to beginners. This is one of the simplest patterns. If you get used to it, and it turns out decently, try moving on to more complex schemes. For example, the rose already described above. Or poppy.

Poppy

It is advisable to choose crepe satin. Filler - optional. You will also need a nylon thread, ordinary threads, fabric or thick threads for decorating the leaves, fabric for the middle of the flower, scissors, a needle, and a black satin or suede ribbon (about 5 centimeters wide).

starts with patterns - 12 for large petals (about 24 centimeters), and 12 for small ones (about 18 centimeters). 4 for green elements (up to 20 centimeters wide). 2 leaf pads. Then the parts of the leaves and petals are sewn together (leave holes for the filler). Iron and turn on the face.

Be sure to make veins on the leaves (stitch or thick thread).

Such densely planted poppies can decorate a pillow of any shape and color.

You will need two rectangles of fabric for the pillowcase...

...and a bright red fabric from which poppies will be made

Fill the petals with filler. Sew up the holes.

Then, with a nylon thread, large petals are gathered together. At the bottom, one petal should overlap the other, about a third of the width. Petals need to be collected in a circle and fixed. The hole in the middle should be about 10 centimeters.

Sew the second (smaller) tier in the same way. Put it on the bottom and sew in a circle.

Sew the leaves one by one from the bottom to the first tier.

Take a green fabric and make a pattern for the core (with a gasket). Stitch the veins in a zigzag pattern. Manually assemble the line, pull it off not completely, fill the filler into the hole and pull it off completely.

Another option how to decorate a pillow with bright poppies

Cut the black tape into strips (indenting from the edge to 1 centimeter). Sew the ribbon along the edge to the middle part of the flower. Insert it inside and sew on the reverse side (bottom). The front side of the middle is carefully sewn to the petals. Use a blind stitch, carefully select the color of the thread.

A very beautiful decoration of the interior can be a do-it-yourself sofa cushion-rose. Sewing such pillows is quite simple and there are several options for how this can be done.

Master class 1: Decorative rose pillow

You will need:

  • fabric of 2 types: for the upper layer of the petal - light and thinner, for the lower - darker and denser;
  • synthetic winterizer;
  • pink oblique trim;
  • sewing accessories: sewing machine, needle, thread, scissors, pins;
  • cardboard for templates and compasses.

1. Draw the necessary templates on cardboard: circles of different diameters - 35 cm, 25 cm and 19 cm.

2. We cut out the details from the fabric according to these templates:

  • with a diameter of 35 cm - from dark fabric 2 pcs.;
  • with a diameter of 25 cm and 19 cm - 6 pcs. from light and 6 pcs. from dark fabric.

3. For the core of our rose, we cut out 2 rectangles 50 cm long and 10 cm wide from dark fabric, and on one side we make a semicircle along the entire length.

4. To make a petal, we take 2 parts of the same diameter of different colors, fold them with the wrong side to each other and attach an oblique inlay on a typewriter along the edges, leaving 5-7 cm for filling with padding polyester. We do this with all the details of the same size and a strip for the core.

7. We begin to collect a rose. On the base (a circle with a diameter of 35 cm), stepping back from the edge of 3-5 cm, we sew a petal of a larger diameter. We sew the next petal, stepping a little on the first and so on all 6 petals.

8. In the same way, we sew the smaller petals, placing them between two large ones. Having twisted the prepared strip into a bud, we sew the core of the flower.

Our rose is ready!

Using a different pattern, you can make another rose pillow.

Master class 2: DIY rose pillow

You will need:

  • pink and beige satin fabric;
  • edging;
  • synthetic winterizer;
  • sewing accessories;
  • templates.
  1. We cut out 4 parts of each template from fabrics: beige - smaller, pink - larger, making approximately the length along the fold of the upper petal 19 cm and the lower one - 24 cm. We also cut out 2 strips of different colors 1 m long and 7 cm wide.
  2. To the front side of the smaller petals, made of beige fabric, we attach a piping around the entire circumference, be sure to combine the cuts.
  3. We put the corresponding piece of pink fabric on top and, combining the cuts along the circumference, we sew along the edging. Turn right side out and cut out any imperfections.
  4. Aligning the seams, we find the centers of the parts and make notches there.
  5. We stuff the petals with synthetic winterizer. We sew the bottom of the parts, making an opposite fold on the top.
  6. We sew two rectangles together with a piping, turn it inside out, stuff it with padding polyester and sew it along the second cut. Then we twist the resulting workpiece into a bud and fix it from below manually.
  7. We cut out 2 circles with a diameter of 32 cm from different fabrics. We fold them with the front side and attach it to the padding polyester, leaving a hole in order to turn it inside out, after which we sew it up.
  8. To the resulting base, stepping back a little from the center, we attach large petals, making uniform folds.
  9. We put 4 smaller petals on top of them and, making folds, attach them to the base.
  10. We sew the middle neatly by hand.

Our rose is ready!

Sewn decorative rose pillow looks great in any interior. The beauty of the flower, the elegance of the lines, the richness of the fabric - all this in combination causes constant delight among the guests. This pillow is a great gift option. Beautiful, functional, expensive.

Try to sew your own "Rose"!

Master class "Sewn pillow-rose with leaves"

This step-by-step lesson is simple, even a novice seamstress can master it.

Dimensions:

The pillow does not have specific sizes. The data proposed below will be conditionally called “Size plus or minus”. The pillow is available in any size.

Materials:

  • fabric for petals and leaves;
  • threads;
  • scissors;
  • filler (synthetic winterizer, holofiber);
  • pattern paper;
  • sewing machine.

Stages of work:

Attention! In order to understand how to sew a pillow, I recommend watching the video:

The procedure for sewing my roses is the same.

petal pattern

Unlike the video tutorial, I make the petals not round, but more reminiscent of a trapezoid in shape.

Approximate dimensions of the petal: length from 30 cm to 40 cm, height 18 - 20 cm.

I cut out three identical templates from paper, then I reduce one along the perimeter by 1 cm, and the second by 2 cm.

I cut out 10 large petals, 8 medium and 6 small ones from the fabric.

I sew the petals in pairs, turn them inside out.

I make a scar on the outside of the petal.

I stuff it with synthetic winterizer and sew it from below.

core

For the core I make a rectangle (see photo below).

From the finished petals I make wreaths. I overlap the petals on top of each other and sew them together. It turns out 3 wreaths of different sizes.

I roll the rectangle into a bud and secure it well from below.

I cut a circle with a diameter of 30 cm, stitch it.

I fill the circle with padding polyester and pull it into a ball.

Wreaths alternately sew to the ball.

There will be a core in the center.

View of the pillow from the bottom (“wrong”) side.

It turns out a rose.

Leaves

If you want to make a pillow with leaves, then the leaves are first attached to the wreath. Then we sew everything to the ball (you need to sew it with a very strong thread).

Pattern of leaves is arbitrary. Everything in nature is arbitrary. 🙂

We sew the cut leaves in pairs, turn them inside out. We make a scar from the outside. We put a little filler inside the leaf. We sew "veins" on the leaves.

The leaves are different in size. Leaves pillow.

When the pillow is almost ready, we hide all the main seams with a thread matching the color of the pillow with a hidden seam.

Sew your pillows! Give them to friends, relatives - make the world more beautiful!

Pillows in the form of flowers give the room a special charm. They look spectacular on the sofa and armchair. Sleeping on these, however, is not very convenient, but such products for sleeping are not intended, they have an exclusively decorative function. You will learn how to sew a rose pillow from our article.

What can be done from old things?

So, do-it-yourself flower pillow - the master class begins. If you have taken up needlework for the first time, it is better not to rush to the store for an expensive spectacular fabric, but to see what you have in your closet. For many women who are not inclined to limit themselves in clothes, the closet is sometimes bursting with things that you don’t want to wear, but it’s a pity to throw them away. It is possible that there will be:

  • an old but strong silk or chiffon dress;
  • a disused imitation velvet skirt;
  • beautiful, but uncomfortable blouse made of synthetics.

It's time to give them a second life, turning them into something spectacular for the home.

Preparing fabric

In order for a thing to be used in a new capacity, it must be processed:

  1. Carefully cut off all buttons, buttons and hooks.
  2. Remove threads.
  3. Spread the product at the seams, not forgetting the darts, cuffs, collar and other small details.
  4. What you will never need with a guarantee is better to throw it away right away.
  5. Wash pieces of fabric thoroughly, iron if necessary.
  6. If there are damaged areas, remove them.

Important! Regardless of whether you buy new fabric or decide to use old clothes, the material must meet certain requirements:

  • it should be thin, but dense and not very crumbling;
  • it is better to take a plain fabric or with a small pattern, otherwise the shape will be poorly visible.

At the same time, the ability to change dimensions after washing does not play a big role, although it is useful to wash new cotton or linen before work or iron it through a damp cloth.

What else do you want?

To make a flower pillow with your own hands turned out to be effective and of high quality, you will need a few more things:

  • sewing machine;
  • needles suitable for this fabric;
  • sewing threads of appropriate quality;
  • threads of a contrasting color for basting;
  • needle for hand sewing;
  • synthetic winterizer or thin foam rubber;
  • braid - in tone or contrast;
  • cardboard for the template;
  • ruler;
  • compass;
  • ball pen.

Braid

The braid can be of two types - thin for processing the edges of the petals and wide for sheathing the middle. With the petals, you can do otherwise - for example, sheathe them with narrow lace. As for the quantity, it will need about 15 m.

Sintepon and threads

A synthetic winterizer needs about 3 m. You can, of course, fill the petals with thin sheet foam rubber, but this option is worse - over time, this material begins to release substances that are not very healthy. The synthetic winterizer is absolutely neutral, so a do-it-yourself rose pillow will serve you until the fabric falls apart.

Important! Parts stuffed with this material can be stacked assemblies, and this is very important for this product.

Threads are best selected for a specific fabric. Cotton or linen is more convenient to sew with cotton, everything else is synthetic.

Important! If you have to connect several parts from different materials, synthetic threads (not nylon) are preferable.

Pillow options

A do-it-yourself rose pillow is made from several petals. The number of them depends on the size of the product:

  • A small pillow (for example, for a doll's corner or a crib) consists of 5-6 petals laid out in one layer.
  • The product for the sofa consists of 8 or even 12 identical elements.

Important! In both cases, they are attached to the middle - a two-layer circle.

Do-it-yourself rose pillow pattern

Any sewing begins with cutting. Decorative pillow in this sense is not an exception at all. There are only two cutting options:

  • all petals are the same in shape and size;
  • The pillow is made up of two layers, and the top petals are smaller than the bottom ones.

In the first case, you need one template, in the second - two, but they differ only in size. By the way, according to the same principle, a chamomile pillow is sewn with your own hands, and a poppy, and any other flower - they will differ only in the shape of the petals.

Important! You can make petals of different shapes, but it is important that one side, which is sewn to the middle, is straight.

Making a template

You can, of course, find a rose petal pattern on the Internet or a needlework book, enlarge it to the desired size and cut it out. But there is nothing difficult in drawing it with your own hands:

  1. Lay a sheet of cardboard about A4 size on the table with the short side facing you.
  2. Set aside 3 cm from the upper right corner.
  3. Find the middle of the upper short side, mark it with a dot.
  4. Set aside 8 cm from the upper left corner and make another mark.
  5. Connect these three points with an arc.
  6. Set aside 1 cm from the lower right corner.
  7. Connect this point to the lower left corner with a smooth line.
  8. Connect the same point to the beginning of the upper arc, that is, to the point that is on the left long side at a distance of 8 cm from the corner.
  9. Cut out the template along the outline.

Important! For a smaller petal, first cut out a rectangle, for example, reducing the standard sheet by ⅓ vertically and horizontally. It's okay if the petals are slightly different from each other in shape.

Center template

It's even easier than a petal pattern. You only need to cut out the circle:

  • If you made petals from an A4 sheet, a circle with a diameter of 10-15 cm is suitable for the middle if you are sewing a rose.
  • Chamomile will have a larger center.

There are no rigid ratios here, the main thing is to observe the approximate dimensions.

cutting

Do-it-yourself decorative rose pillow - the master class continues. And it's time to cut the petals. For a small pillow, all parts of which will be sewn from the same fabric, the procedure will be as follows:

  1. If the cut is large, fold it in half with the wrong side out.
  2. Fold the two pieces right sides together.
  3. Circle the template strictly along the contour.
  4. Cut out the details, making allowances of 1-1.5 cm along all sections.
  5. Cut out pads from synthetic winterizer - from 2 to 6 for each petal, no allowances are needed.

Important! Cut out the middle from the same fabric according to a round pattern, not forgetting about the allowances. There may be more layers of padding polyester to make this part look more voluminous.

Pillow with two layers of petals

In this case, you need to cut out 4 large petals and 4 smaller ones - 8 parts in total. In all other respects, the cutting order is exactly the same as for the first option. The smaller the pillow, the thinner the petals will be. The lower ones can be made more voluminous, for the upper ones 2-4 layers of stuffing are enough.

Important! If you use foam rubber, only one layer is laid in all the petals and in the middle.

How to make a rose pillow if all the details are already there?

So the moment has come to arrange each element, in order to then collect them all together.

Middle

Let's start from the middle:

  1. Cut a piece of wide braid about 3 times the circumference.
  2. Sew along the long edge with a basting stitch and make gathers so that it matches the edge of the workpiece along the length.
  3. Iron the allowances of both parts on the wrong side, if necessary, make cuts so that the fabric does not bulge.
  4. To the part that will be on top, on the wrong side, baste the braid.
  5. Fold the parts with wrong sides to each other, laying a synthetic winterizer between them so that it is under the allowances.
  6. Baste the design at a distance of 1.5 cm from the edge so that you can put the petals between the layers.

petals

Each petal is processed in much the same way as the middle, but there are differences:

  1. Fold the petal parts right sides together, matching all the cuts.
  2. Sweep them along the rounded edge and stitch.
  3. In several places, cut the allowances close to the seam.
  4. Turn out the workpiece.
  5. Press the open edge seam allowances inwards.
  6. Insert synthetic winterizer.
  7. Lay a basting seam along the open edge.

Important! If you decide to sheathe the edges with braid or lace, the trim must be inserted between the layers so that it protrudes from the front side in a straight line.

Assembly

Before sewing the flower pillow into a single product, slightly pull off the basting. Then proceed like this:

  1. Baste the open edge of the petal between the layers of the center.
  2. Attach the rest of the petals in the same way, tightening the basting if necessary and laying beautiful assemblies.
  3. Sew the entire design along the edge of the middle with a zigzag or decorative stitch.
