Knitting in English. Knitting gum with knitting needles. How to knit an elastic band with knitting needles: simple, English, double, Polish, French

Every novice craftswoman sooner or later is interested in how to knit an English elastic band. This type of needlework is both simple and complex at the same time. In order to learn how to properly hold the knitting needles, knit loops, make patterns, you need a lot of patience and perseverance. Those who have ever tried knitting or seen the process will be able to repeat it.

For the first experience, it is best to do small things yourself with your own hands, for example, knit winter balls or a hat. Great for this suitable technique of knitting English gum, the method requires only some basic knowledge and understanding of the knitting process itself.

The main positive features of this pattern:

  • This knitting differs from the usual one in that its pattern is much more prominent. The wrong side alternates the front and this creates an original look. It consists of scars that form pigtails in the central part of the report and make the product unlike others;
  • The knitting of the English gum is remarkable in that it holds its shape well and therefore it is often used to create hats, socks and other things.

Those who are going to start knitting using the English gum technique need to know such an important feature - more yarn will be required than for a similar product performed by other loops. Before you start doing any thing, you need to knit a small sample. After, it must be washed and ironed.

These manipulations will allow you to estimate the actual number of loops that you need to dial to complete this or that thing using the English gum technique, since it tend to vary slightly in size under the influence of external factors. To get a quality product, the knitting must be tight without poor-quality joints, as this will help maintain its original appearance.

A variation of the pattern can serve as a semi-English method, it is more interesting because fewer threads are needed for knitting, but it has the same relief and similar splendor. If it is difficult for novice masters to do everything exactly with the instructions, then you can replace one of the patterns with a double scar. You just need to systematically knit the purl and front row, without coming off the bill. Due to the combination of different techniques and structures, you can get a very original product, for example, a scarf that will have a textured, but at the same time lush pattern.

In order to correctly complete all the patterns and instructions, you do not need to have extensive experience in knitting, it is enough stock up on patience and the desire to create something with your own hands. In order to build, for example, a hat using knitting needles, you need to dial an odd number of loops by knitting them, strictly following the instructions:

  • The first row - one front loop, yarn over, then remove the loop with the thread behind and then repeat everything over again;
  • The second row - throw on the thread, then remove, knit two loops together with the front one and continue like this until the end;
  • Third row - knit two loops together with the front, then throw on the thread, throw one loop not knitted and repeat this order until the end of the row;
  • The fourth and fifth rows are knitted identically to the second and third;
  • The first and last loop of each row is not knitted, but simply transferred to another knitting needle.

In order to knit a large one-piece fabric, necessary, for example, to create snoods, an English circular gum is made. Such elements are best done not on simple knitting needles, but, for example, on a fishing line. Because knitting goes on continuously, the beginning of the row must be marked marker or marker. The main thing is not to forget the order of knitting all the rows, observing even and odd, as they have a characteristic difference in patterns.

Circular knitting pattern:

  • Dial an odd number of loops and close them in a circle;
  • The first circle is the front loop, yarn over, throw over, repeat again;
  • The second circle - throw a loop, remove the next one, knit two together with one wrong side and so on until the end;
  • Third circle - two loops are knitted together with the front, cross over, and after that continue to the last loop;
  • Repeat the second and third row;
  • Remove the first edge loop without knitting.

By adhering to all these rules, you can knit a beautiful pattern that will decorate any product. A snood or hat made in this style will perfectly warm its owner on cold winter days.

Two-tone English gum

Soft and airy knitting in unusual colors is obtained by using yarn of two or three colors. For this you will need circular tools and high-quality threads. You need to choose based on your taste preferences.

Knitting pattern:

  • It is necessary to dial an even number of loops;
  • The first row is a loop loop, remove the unknitted one;
  • The second row - when knitting, add a second color, knit the first edge loop, then stretch two to the wrong side;
  • Third row - thread a dark thread;
  • Repeat everything again in the same sequence starting from the first row.

Having spent a little time getting acquainted with the peculiarities of knitting with an English rubber band, each craftswoman will be able to find what she needs. The versatility of this technique makes it suitable for doing any kind of knitting.

Thanks to new textile technologies, the clothes of a modern person have become very comfortable and light, but at the same time, very similar. Owning the art of hand knitting, you can create your own unique designs of clothing, in accordance with the new trends of the fashionable modern industry.

The use of English gum

Needlewomen claim that knitting English rib with knitting needles is one of the easiest ways that beginners should master. Detailed descriptions and diagrams will help in this not tricky art. This method can be called the "universal soldier". It can be used both for finishing products and as a complete knitted fabric.

Rules and tricks of knitting English gum

Despite the simplicity of this pattern, before starting work, it is worth remembering some rules:

English knitting gum: technique step by step

There are many different options that describe knitting English gum with knitting needles. The scheme for beginners will help you optimally determine the desired technique.

English gum 1/1

In order to get an English gum ornament, any amount of loops is dialed, which can be divided by two. The first line is knitted with alternating one front loop and the wrong one.

In the second line, the front loops are made over the front loops, and the purl loops are made over the purl loops. Further, the odd lines are entirely knitted like the first line, and the even ones are completely knitted like the second line.

English gum 2/1

Any even number of loops is dialed. The first chain is knitted, with the alternation of two facial and one purl loop. The next chain is passed with facial loops over the front, and purl loops over the purl. Then all the odd stripes go, repeating the initial chain, and the even ones completely repeat the second chain.

English gum 2/2

Such the ornament comes out very elastic and embossed. To begin with, the sum of the nodes is a multiple of two.

English rib 3/2 turns out to be very embossed.

Starting chain:

Second chain:

  • throw the first loop on the opposite knitting needle;
  • then, repeat the pattern: facial over the loops of the front, and purl - over the purl.

English gum 3/2

Such a pattern is very embossed.

Scheme:

  • gain the sum of loops divisible by 5;
  • one loop is removed;
  • then alternate three wrong side and two front;
  • finish - edge;

In subsequent rows, the pattern is observed.

English gum 5/1

The knitting of this version bears little resemblance to the English gum, but it basically has the same pattern.

Knit like this:

  • start with such a sum of loops that will be divisible by six;
  • edge loops along the edges;
  • alternate purl and five facial loops;
  • subsequent rows are knitted, following the pattern.

Simplified English gum

The pattern is created by alternating the front and back loops.. However, the front loop is always knitted, capturing the upper part of the lower loop. Along the edges of the rows, edge loops are necessarily made.

False English gum: 2 options

This double-sided pattern knits quickly and saves yarn. They collect the required amount of loops divisible by 4 + edging.

False English ribbing knits fairly quickly and saves yarn

Option number 1.Row one:

  • the initial loop is removed;
  • alternate three facial loops with one wrong side;

Row two:

  • after the edge, make two facial loops: 1p. for the far thread, and the second for the front;
  • then knit the purl loop, followed by the front loop;
  • and repeat again: 2 facial, purl, facial, to the edge.

The third stripe copies the drawing of the initial stripe, and the fourth - the drawing of the second stripe.

Option two.

The pattern is embossed with tubercles, in the center of which is a path from a pigtail.

Copying the first option, perform the initial strip.

Changes occur in the second row:

  • after the edge, make a pair of facial loops: the first for the back thread, and the second for the front;
  • purl loop;
  • then 3 facial: the first for the back thread, the second for the front and the third again for the back thread;
  • the pattern is copied to the edge loop.

Complex English gum

Having mastered knitting on simple patterns, start trying your hand at more complex patterns of English gum. Knit an even amount of stitches. Ornament 1/1 is gaining the initial line.

  • after the hem knit the front knot for the inner slice;
  • then the loop is re-shot, putting the working thread in front. In this way, work up to the final edge loop.

Working further, the actions are exactly repeated. This method is called double or hollow, since the parts of the product are divided into 2 halves. Used for knitting cuffs, necklines, straps and belts in children's and adult products.

Faceted English gum

Working on this method, make an odd amount of loops.

Working with a faceted English rubber band, they make an odd amount of loops.

Scheme:

  • the initial one is removed;
  • then alternate a pair of facial with a pair of purl;
  • finish with 1 front and edge loop.

Second line:

  • after the hem, the entire line is alternated with a pair of purl and a pair of facial, at the end 1 purl and 1 hem loop.

The third line repeats 1, and the 4th line repeats 2, and so on. The product is embossed with beautiful convex edges.

Fluffy English gum

Similar knitting stretches well, is the same on both sides and looks voluminous. The initial chain is knitted one to one, doing alternately, then the front, then the wrong side.

Scheme:

  • the original node is removed;
  • the latter is knitted inside out.

Next chain:

  • the initial loop is removed;
  • then the front loop is knitted as follows: the knitting needle is inserted, descending into the lower chain.
  • the inside is done as usual.
  • the front is taken again from the previous chain.

Two-tone English gum

Products knitted with English rib on knitting needles look very bright when two multi-colored threads are used. First, for convenience of description, colors will be indicated in the scheme. Pink will be color #1 and blue will be color #2. Collect an odd amount of blue loops on knitting needles with two working ends. Along the edges of each strip, edge loops are made.

Products knitted with English rib on knitting needles look very bright when two multi-colored threads are used.

Front page:

In the second strip we introduce pink color:

  • we pass the pink thread through the first blue loop and tie;
  • knit 2 strip with pink thread;
  • 1 p. is removed, the thread is thrown on and the next loop is again removed without knitting;
  • a blue loop with a crochet is knitted with the front for the inner thread;
  • repeat the steps to the end of the strip, where they make the edge.

Move the stripes to the other side of the needle and make 3 blue rows:

  • 1 p. is removed, a pink-blue loop with a yarn is knitted on the wrong side;
  • throw a thread and remove the loop without knitting;

Move the stripes to the other side of the knitting needle and make 4 pink rows:

  • 1 p. is removed, the thread is thrown on and one loop is re-shot without knitting it;
  • a pink-blue loop with a yarn is knitted purl; copy the pattern to the edge of the strip, where they make the edge.

Move the stripes to the other side of the needle and make 5 blue rows:

  • 1 p. is re-shot, a pink-blue loop with a crochet is knitted with the front one for the inner thread;
  • throw on the thread and reshoot one loop without knitting it;
  • copy this order to the end of the strip, where they make the edge.

The sixth row copies the actions of the second strip. The rapport of the ornament is 2, 3, 4, 5 stripes. Rapport is a complex of stripes that makes up a repeating unit of a pattern.

English gum in a circle

In order to knit this English gum, an even amount of loops is collected on any circular knitting needles.

Start according to the scheme:

  • add an additional loop for connection, which will then disappear;
  • to do this: slip the loop on the left side to the right side. The left knitting needle is passed into the penultimate loop of the right knitting needle. And through it they pull out the loop with the right knitting needle, which was on the left knitting needle;
  • the resulting loop is tightened by the ends of the threads and thrown back to the left side. The ring has formed. This loop is considered as the first.
  • for convenience, they hang a marker that delimits the beginning and end of the row;
  • the thread is thrown before work and removed. It turns out a loop with a crochet;
  • the second is knitted front;
  • then they make a loop loop and again the front one;
  • copy this order to the extreme front loop.

Second row:

  • a pair with a cap thread is knitted inside out;
  • the front is removed with a crochet;
  • and copy the pattern in a circle.

The third row repeats the first, and the fourth the second, and so on.

Two-tone elastic all around

The ornament of two colors gives a beautiful product that can be worn on two sides.. For ease of description, color #1 will be blue, color #2 pink.

Scheme:

  • an even amount of blue knots is collected on circular knitting needles;
  • add an additional loop, which will disappear when connected.

The first ring is knitted with the English rubber band option. Moving on to the second round, pink wool is tied up.

  • the pink thread is placed in front of the knitting needle and removed along with the blue front loop;
  • inside out, a blue pair of “knot-nakid” is tied;

The third circle is made with a blue thread:

  • a pink-blue pair is knitted front;
  • the pink purl loop is re-shot with a cap thread;
  • repeat the steps until the end of the circle.

The fourth circle repeats the ornament of the second ring. The fifth circle repeats the pattern of the third ring. The rapport of the ornament is 2, 3 rings.

English gum 1/1 round

Scheme:

  1. On circular knitting needles, an even amount of knots is collected.
  2. Close the ring according to the method of "circular English gum".
  3. Next, interleave the front with the wrong side.
  4. On the next ring, continue alternating according to the pattern. Wrong slings, removing the back thread, and the front ones for the front.

We knit products with an English rubber band

For such things as a women's hat, a children's scarf, and even a stylish men's pullover, English rib knitting is quite suitable. The scheme for beginners will help to realize the creative idea of the needlewoman. It is best to start with a simpler piece of clothing - a scarf.

Scarf

A long scarf knitted with a fluffy elastic band is suitable for those who like to combine this accessory with various types of clothing.

For a scarf, you will need merino wool 800 m and knitting needles No. 5.

Knitting pattern:

  1. Cast on 26 stitches.
  2. Knit according to the pattern "Luminous English gum" to the desired length.
  3. In order to make brushes, take any hardcover book.
  4. The book is evenly wrapped with threads in a circle and cut at one end.
  5. One brush equals 4 threads. The threads of the brush are folded in half. With the help of a hook, they are pulled into the lower edge of the scarf like a loop. Thread the ends of the brush into this loop and gently tighten.
  6. So make out both sides of the product.

A cap

For a hat size 52, you will need 100 meters of yarn (acrylic 25%, wool 75%) and circular knitting needles No. 6.

Knitting pattern:

  1. Cast on 47 stitches. The second knitting needle is pulled out and the wool is distributed in a circle. In order not to be confused with the beginning, a marker is attached.
  2. To connect the product in a circle, the loop from the left knitting needle is transferred to the right side. And the first loop on the right side is pushed through the removed loop and transferred to the left side.
  3. Knit with a circular English rubber band about 20 centimeters.
  4. In order to knit the top of the head, they switch to a circular elastic band 1/1. Knit in this way 3 rows.
  5. Then the loops are gradually reduced, knitting a ring over a pair of loops with a front pattern. To keep a beautiful pigtail, the front loop is turned over, the front thread is made back.
  6. The next four rows are knitted.
  7. Using a hook, pull the remaining thread through all the loops.
  8. The needles are pulled out. The product is turned inside out and the crown is tightened with a working thread.

At the top of such a hat, you can attach a pompom made of natural fur.

Snood

For a fashionable, voluminous snud, you will need 300 g of wool mixture.

Scheme:

  • 100 lines are cast on size 6 circular needles. Knit with a circular English elastic band to the desired length. Having tied the slings, they close:
  • a couple of knots are knitted together with the front;
  • the resulting loop is thrown back to the left side;
  • this combination is repeated until the end of the row.

Men's sweater

Before undertaking such a large subject you need to take measurements and build a pattern. When performing work, periodically check the product with it. Since the yarn is different, the density is checked on the sample. The main pattern of this sweater will be the second version of the false English gum. Ring knitting needles are selected according to the recommendation for yarn.

You need to start from the back of the sweater:

  • for size L, 70 loops are cast on smaller needles and knitted with an ornament 2/2, seven centimeters. In the final row add three loops (73 p.);
  • further, changing the knitting needles to larger ones, continue with the main pattern;
  • in rows under No. 9.10, add a loop on both sides (77 p.) For side slopes;
  • after knitting 33 cm from the elastic band, seven loops (63 p.) are closed for the armhole on both sides;
  • for a collar neckline, after 62 cm from the elastic band, the middle 35 are closed. Each side is completed separately;
  • to round the neck from the inside of the cutout in every second row, close twice 4 loops;
  • close the shoulders after 65 cm from the elastic.

The front section of the sweater is knitted like a back, only with a deeper notch in the collar zone. To do this, after knitting 57 cm from the elastic, 21 loops are closed in the middle. To round the neck, in every second row, it is necessary to close once 3 loops, five times a pair of loops and two times 1 loop.

Sleeves:

  • dial 30 loops on the needles and knit with a pattern 2/2 seven centimeters;
  • in the last row, evenly add six loops (36 p.);
  • then knit with the main pattern;
  • further, counting from the gum, make bevels. To do this, add at the same time: in each 4 row fifteen times one loop and a couple of times 1 loop in each 2 row, including the loops added to the pattern (70 p.);
  • after 49 cm from the elastic, close all loops.

Assembling the sweater:

  • dial 108 loops along the neckline of the collar on circular knitting needles and knit 5 cm with option 2/2, after which all loops are completed according to the pattern;
  • fold the neckline in half on the inside and sew;
  • sew in ready-made sleeves, completing the seams on the sides and on the sleeves.

Looking at this diagram, you can start knitting a sweater using any version of the English gum.

This pattern is basic in mastering the art of knitting. Rare thing does without his participation. Often this ornament performs the function of an element of clothing. Collar zones, cuffs, belts, finishing of the lower edge are mostly carried out with its help. At the same time, the English drawing looks great when creating a whole voluminous thing.

Knitting a children's scarf-snood with English rubber:

The pattern is double-sided, it is used for knitting hats, scarves and warm sportswear. English gum is quite loose and voluminous, stretches well. To knit a pattern sample on the knitting needles, the number of loops is divisible by three. In the event that the side edges are open, for example, if you knit a scarf, edge loops should not be added; so the side hem looks prettier. In the event that you are going to sew parts, add two edge loops and. Next, sew the details.

1 row: * (before the first loop), remove 1 loop, knit 2 loops together with the front, picking up the loops in front *;

2 row and all subsequent rows are knitted as the first, but not two loops are knitted together, but a pair of yarn-loop.

When closing the English elastic band (method 1), knit a pair of yarn over together, with a front loop, and knit the wrong loop with the wrong one; in this case, the edge will not be elastic. To obtain an elastic edge of the elastic band, the last row must be closed in method 3, but a pair of yarn-loop should be picked up with a needle as one loop.

Video lesson on knitting English gum

We are often asked how to knit an English rubber band in a circle. When knitting an English gum in a circle odd rows are knitted in the same way as with flat knitting, and in even rows, instead of the front one, a purl loop is knitted:

odd rows: * yarn over (before the first loop), remove 1 loop, knit 2 loops together*;

The pattern "English gum" is the same both from the wrong side and from the front side. Use when knitting scarves, hats, leggings, sweaters and berets. It is successfully combined with different knittings on one product. Although the pattern is easy to perform even for beginner needlewomen, there are a few rules and tips that you should follow - you will learn about them in the article. In addition, we will teach you how to knit an English ribbing with knitting needles, accompanying each step with pictures.

English rib - double-sided knitting with a trick. Before applying the pattern to the product, always tie a sample, as the density of the fabric is visually deceptive. By casting on a large number of loops, you risk getting a huge sweater, or vice versa, thanks to a loose knit with good stretch. To make the pattern look complete, cast on the number of loops divided by 3. For the sample, we take 15 loops. The English gum does not require knitting edge loops, therefore, before the first loop, we yarn over the thread on the working knitting needle, and remove the loop itself without knitting. So, on the right knitting needle there is a yarn over and a thrown loop.

Then we knit two loops together "front" for the front wall. Now we make a yarn over on the working knitting needle and remove the loop without knitting. Again we knit two loops "front". Repeat the same steps until the end of the row.

We turn the work over and proceed to the second row. First, we also make a crochet and remove the first loop without knitting. Now we knit together a pair of “loop + yarn” together. Again we throw a thread on the knitting needle, remove the loop and knit the “loop + yarn” together. Repeat these steps to the end of the row and turn the canvas over. The third and subsequent rows are knitted in the same way.

To beautifully finish the upper edge of the English gum, knit the first loop on the wrong side, and a pair of “loop + yarn” behind the front walls of the “front”. And pull the resulting loop through the loop on the right knitting needle. We knit the next loop “wrong side” and stretch the previous one through it. Thus, we close the entire row.

English Rib Pattern Tips:
  1. The needle should be thicker than the yarn. The wider the needle and thread, the larger and more openwork knitting.
  2. English elastic is completely unsuitable for finishing edges (neck, cuffs), as it stretches a lot.
  3. Dry the product, which is connected with an English rubber band, by laying it out on a horizontal surface. Otherwise, you will get a shapeless thing.
  4. The English Rib pattern is tricky and can accentuate figure flaws thanks to its pleated structure. Be careful!
  5. Always knit the sample with the threads intended for the product.
  6. Cast on an odd number of stitches.
  7. Knit the front loops only behind the front wall, otherwise the pattern will be ruined.
  8. English gum requires more thread consumption than for knitting regular gum. Therefore, buy a couple of spare balls.

Now each craftswoman will add another pattern to her knitting portfolio - an English rubber band. To better understand how to work with cast-on loops in this knit, watch the video attached below. Knit with pleasure!

A very light and elastic product is obtained by knitting it with an elastic band. Such knitting is often used for knitting the bottom of sweaters, blouses, product necks, as well as scarves. In the collection of hand knitting, there are several varieties of the elastic band pattern, which differ not only in the way of knitting, but also in appearance. In order for the fabric to turn out more accurate, it is better to knit an elastic band with knitting needles with a diameter either equal to the thickness of the thread, or no more than 1.5 more. The most common types of this pattern are:

  • Simple: 1x1, 2x2, etc.
  • English,
  • double,
  • Polish,
  • french

How to knit a simple elastic band

A simple elastic band is knitted using a different combination of basic loops, that is, knit and purl. Due to the fact that the fabric knitted with this pattern turns out to be elastic and well stretched, knitting with a similar pattern is used in cases where it is necessary to achieve the effect of fitting the product itself, for example, a turtleneck, or its individual parts, such as a cuff, collar, edges neckline and bottom. Simple elastic bands are usually conventionally indicated by the numbers 2 × 2 or 1 × 2, where the first number indicates the number of front loops, and the second number of purl loops in the report. Thus, you can knit an elastic band with simple knitting needles with almost any combination of basic loops, the main thing is to keep the proportions that will allow the fabric to be elastic. Consider several options for pattern patterns simple gum:

  1. Elastic band 1×1. We knit all the front rows in a sequence of loops: front, back. We knit all purl over the front front, over the purl purl.
  2. Elastic band 2×2. The number of loops should be a multiple of two plus two edge loops. In all odd rows, two facial, two purl are knitted, and in odd rows, to comply with the pattern, as well as for 1 × 1 elastic, purl over the facial ones are knitted over the purl.
  3. Elastic band 2×1. The number of loops for such an elastic band should be divided by three plus two loops for hem:
  • 1r. We knit to the end of the row 2 facial, 1 purl.
  • 2r. Throughout the row, a report is knitted: 1 purl, 2 facial.
  • From the 3rd row, the knitting pattern is repeated from the 1st row.

An important point when choosing the option of knitting a simple elastic band is the size of the product itself, so, for example, for a large one, you can take a combination of 4 × 4, as well as the scheme of the main pattern, since for a harmonious look of the product it is very important that everything in it is combined.

How to knit English Rib

English gum is the most popular among all representatives of this pattern. It also has a second name pearl. At present, due to its lush and embossed appearance and soft texture, it is widely used in knitting products such as jumpers, scarves, hats and other bulky products. It is not advised to knit English ribbing for cuffs and edges of the product, since the fabric knitted with this pattern turns out to be soft and not very elastic. An English elastic pattern is made using the main loops and yarn over loops. The scheme for creating a pattern English gum 1 × 1 is as follows:

  • We collect an odd number of loops, after which we knit the first row according to the report: 1 yarn over, 1 loop removed not knitted, the working thread is thrown behind the canvas, 1 front.
  • 2 row. Yarn over, 1 st removed not knitted, 2 sts are knitted as one front st.
  • 3 row. Two loops are knitted as one front, yarn over, 1 loop is thrown over not knitted.

Closing the loops of the English elastic is a little different from the completion of a simple canvas. To make the edge beautiful and even, the preparatory row is knitted first. To do this, the following steps are performed:

  • The fabric is knitted according to the same pattern, where the single crochet loop is thrown not knitted onto the right knitting needle, and the double crochet loop of the previous row is knitted as one front, so the actions are repeated until the end of the row.
  • After that, you can close the loops of the product as usual.

If English ribbing 1×1 is knitted in circular knitting, then the sequence of loops will be slightly different:

  • 1r. front, nakid, not knitted loop.
  • 2p . Nakid, not knitted loop, purl.
  • 3r. Two loops together, not a knitted loop.

The English elastic band 2 × 2 also looks very good, for it the number of loops is taken, divisible by 4 plus two hem:

In order for the fabric on such elements of the product as the neck or cuffs, as well as when knitting scarves, belts or hats, to be denser and better able to keep its shape, one of the varieties of the elastic pattern, called double elastic, is used. Learning to knit such an elastic band for beginners will be as simple as for more experienced needlewomen:

  • The set of loops for a double elastic band should be equal to an even number and divisible by four and plus two hem loops.
  • We knit the first row as follows: the front one, knitted behind the front wall, 1 loop is removed not knitted, the working thread moves in front of the canvas and so on until the end of the row.
  • 2 row. 1 purl, 1 loop is removed not knitted, we throw the working thread behind the product.
  • In the third and subsequent rows, knitting is repeated from the first row.

You can more clearly familiarize yourself with how to knit a double elastic band using the following video:

For belts and scarves, double or hollow elastic is best done in circular knitting, using special knitting needles. But in this case, all rows are knitted according to the same pattern: front loop, 1 re-shot not knitted.

How to knit Polish rib with knitting needles

Polish ribbing is an excellent solution for creating items such as snoods or a scarf collar, as well as for children's things, thanks to its loose and airy structure. You can knit the Polish gum in one of the two following ways:

The following video will help knitting a Polish gum with knitting needles for beginners:

In order to knit a French elastic band, the number of loops must be dialed so that it is divided by four plus two loops for the hem. The elastic is performed by the following alternation of the main loops:

  • 1r. We alternate 2 purl loops and 2 facial loops behind the back wall.
  • 2r. We repeat the sequence: 1 purl loop, 2 facial loops behind the back wall, 1 purl.
  • The next rows are knitted again from the first.

You can knit French elastic in the following way:

  • We collect loops, the number of which should be divisible by three plus 3 loops for edge loops and symmetry.
  • In all odd rows, we knit sequentially to the penultimate loop: 1 purl loop, then remove 1 loop not knitted, then we knit the next loop behind the back wall, again return the removed loop to the knitting needle and also knit it behind the back wall with the front loop, the last loop of the row is knitted purl.
  • We knit even rows as follows. We knit a sequence of loops 1 front loop, re-shoot the loop not knitted, knit the next one from the wrong side, return the not knitted loop to the left knitting needle and knit it from the wrong side. We end the row with a front loop.

There are a lot of types of rubber bands, so when choosing a particular model, in order for the product to look harmonious, you need to take into account the following nuances:

  • The density and pattern of the elastic should correspond to the main pattern of the fabric and the type of product for which the elastic is made.
  • Not all types of elastic bands can be used in circular knitting, as many of them have a patent, that is, a double-sided pattern. These are, for example, such elastic bands as French or English 2 × 2.
  • CIRCULAR KNITTING OF ENGLISH RIBBON

    English elastic band 1x1 round

    For the sample, we collect 33 loops. We distribute them 8 on each knitting needle. There should be 9 stitches left on the 4th needle. We transfer this 9 loop to the 1st knitting needle and knit one from the first two loops(on the 4th knitting needle there are 8 loops).

    1 circular row - ( 1 front, 1 purl);

    2 round row - (Knit 1, 1 reverse yarn over, purl 1 remove without knitting);

    3 circular row- (1 reverse yarn over, remove 1 front yarn without knitting, knit 1 wrong loop together with the adjacent yarn over with the wrong loop);

    4 circular row- (Knit 1 knit together with the adjacent yarn over with a front loop, 1 reverse yarn over, remove 1 purl without knitting);

    The 4th needle should have 9 loops left. We transfer this 9th loop to the 1st knitting needle and knit one of the first two loops (there are 8 loops on the 4th knitting needle). So we closed knitting in a circle. Now you can start knitting the main pattern:

    1 circular row (white thread)- (1 facial, 1 purl);

    2 circular row (blue thread)- (1 knit, 1 reverse yarn, 1 purl yarn off without knitting);

    3 circular row (white thread)- (1 reverse yarn over, remove knit 1, purl 1 together with adjacent yarn over);

    4 circular row (blue thread)- (knit 1 knit together with adjacent yarn over, 1 reverse yarn over, remove 1 wrong yarn without knitting);

    Scottish gum.

    Scottish gum. One of my favorite knitting patterns. It looks great both on hats and on vests, sweaters. Thick and dense pattern. Perhaps someone will call it a Bulgarian rubber band, but the technique is the same, but the density of the pattern is different.

    So let's start:

    we collect the number of loops a multiple of three (3x ...) * + 2 edging.

    1st row: remove the border, * 2 facial, 1 purl *; and so on until the second border.

    2nd row: edging, * 1 facial, yarn over, 2 facial. We throw the yarn over the last two facial ones. *, edging.

    We repeat everything from the beginning. Row after row until you get bored.
