Sisal balls for topiary with your own hands. New Year's topiary Christmas tree: we decorate the holiday ourselves. So you will need

Sisal is a natural plant fiber. It is extracted mechanically from the long leaves of the agave, which grows in the subtropics. Since ancient times, the inhabitants of the countries of America and Africa have valued it for its durability and strength. Threads, ropes, ropes are made from sisal, they create a variety of household items. Mattress stuffing and carpets are renowned for their quality. Ship ropes were woven from thick threads. However, natural fibers are gradually being replaced by artificial ones.

Needlework masters use both threads and canvases made from them in their creative works. In the article we will consider a master class of sisal Christmas trees, different versions. Also, readers will learn how to create canvases and balls of threads on their own, use even natural and unpainted rope. Now it is fashionable to decorate the interior with jute crafts, burlap, and we will use sisal. The color of the thread is lighter than jute, stronger and harder to the touch, you also need to know that they are prickly.

Some use artificial sisal. However, these are just plastic thin threads. In our article, we will describe a master class of a Christmas tree made of natural sisal, grown by the hands of workers in Brazil and Tanzania. The crafts made will delight for a long period of time. After all, this material is durable, does not absorb dust and moisture. So you can make the following version of the New Year's crafts as a gift.

Christmas tree made of threads

To make a Christmas tree from sisal with your own hands according to the master class described below in the article, you need to buy the following materials necessary for work in a sewing accessories and needlework store:

  • foam cone;
  • green sisal threads;
  • golden ribbon;
  • gold and red beads or half beads;
  • red satin ribbon for a bow at the top.

You will also need scissors, PVA glue and a Christmas tree garland, it is advisable to buy a light, plastic one.

Sisal Christmas tree master class

Apply a thick layer of PVA to the foam cone with a brush. The winding of sisal threads starts from the bottom up. They do this in a chaotic manner, the main thing is that the coating is of high quality and the foam is not visible anywhere. At the very top, the threads are wound tightly around some kind of rod, for example, take a thin knitting needle, which is then easy to remove. The upper part of the craft is made tight, and after removing the rod, it twists around its axis a couple of times. To prevent the top from falling apart, add PVA glue.

The winding is fixed with ribbons tied in a spiral around the Christmas tree. You can alternate a strip of golden ribbon and garlands with balls. The top requires reinforced winding so that it does not unwind. A small bright ball, fixed with threads, is hung on the edge. The top thus leans to one side. You can decorate the Christmas tree to your taste by attaching bright beads or pebbles along the ribbon. You can glue several balls, placing them evenly over the entire surface of the craft. Tie a red bow next to the top ball.

A sisal Christmas tree made according to our master class can be placed both on a shelf and in the center of a festive table. It takes up little space, but will serve as a wonderful decor for the New Year's holiday.

Christmas tree from individual balls

Now we will present the reader with a master class of a Christmas tree made of sisal balls. You can fantasize in the manufacture of this craft in different ways. Both the colors of the threads and the size of the twisted elements themselves vary. Additionally, both natural and artificial components can be connected to the work of decorating crafts.

Cones and twigs, Christmas balls and tinsel, foam fruits and berries are used. Dried fruits look beautiful, such as orange or lemon slices, cinnamon sticks or star anise. Alternate sisal balls with yarn pom-poms. Here everything is decided by the master working on the craft.

How to make balls

Before you start the sisal Christmas tree master class, let's look at how to make balls correctly, because the threads have a naughty structure, they can stick out ugly in different directions, they will definitely fall apart after twisting. Masters, before shaping the balls on a foam cone, properly prepare them.

First of all, a small part is torn off from the general heap of fibers and the shape of a ball of the desired size is rolled in the hands. If it turned out to be small - it's not scary, you need to tear off a little more and roll the ball in your palms again. Then the element must be strengthened. The same PVA glue is used. It pours a little into the palm and the ball is rolled in the glue again. The finished part is left on a ceramic plate until completely dry.

When everything is dry, you can notice small flaws, for example, threads stick out in some places. This must be corrected before pasting the cone, cutting off all the excess with scissors. Next comes the assembly of the components together.

Assembling a Christmas tree from balls

As a basis, you can use both a purchased cone and a self-made one made of cardboard. Consider this version of a sisal Christmas tree (read the master class with a step-by-step explanation below). Thick green paper is selected and folded around the upper corner with a cone. The sides can be glued, but it is more reliable to fasten with paper clips using a stapler. The inner part for weighting is filled with crumpled newspapers.

The lower part of the cone is leveled with scissors and placed on a piece of foam or glued to a saucer from a flower pot. Only it must first be painted or pasted over with ribbons of green or a contrasting color.

Then the prepared balls are pasted over the entire cone, decorative elements are added - bows, cones, Christmas decorations, artificial snowflakes and much more.

How to make a sisal Christmas tree topiary

You have already read the master class on working with sisal fibers. Let's see how you can make a Christmas tree craft from sisal ropes, and even in the form of a topiary. The base for the tree is best to take a foam cone. A hole for the rod is pierced from below with a stick or branch. Also prepare a coil of natural thin sisal rope, a flower pot, or any shape of container to hold our tree upright. We will fix the base with a solution of gypsum and water, mixed in a separate bowl to a state of thick sour cream.

To make the tops as curved as in the photo above, a thick wire is used. First of all, the cone is wrapped with a rope or thick sisal threads around the entire circumference. The wire is stuck deep into the cone (you can pour a little PVA into the hole), and is also wrapped along the entire length.

The rod (stick, thick even branch, wire) is wrapped with a brown satin ribbon, the ends of which are glued to the rod from below and from above. A hole of the appropriate diameter is pierced in the cone and a rod is placed on the glue. Its lower part is inserted into a pot filled with a solution of gypsum.

Decorating crafts

The decoration uses natural elements - paper ribbons, dried leaves, cinnamon sticks and lemon slices. The pot is wrapped in bright glossy paper and sisal thread. The remaining free inner part is filled with sweets.

The article gives only a few options for making Christmas trees from sisal. You can diversify crafts in your own way, adding creative ideas to the knowledge gained.

Such floristic fiber as sisal can be seen today in every flower shop. More than one photo or video master class is devoted to the manufacture of sisal crafts. Sisal is made from the leaves of the Mexican agave, it is such a herbaceous shrub from the subtropics. Sisal fibers are coarse and hard, but very strong. Ropes, ropes, washcloths, brushes are most often made from this fiber. That is, production, far from artistic creativity.

But it was the masters of arts and crafts who drew attention to the fact that sisal is appropriate in needlework, as well as in a variety of types of decor. And now the video instructions tell you how to build such beauty.

Before making a beautiful souvenir tree, you will need a MK (master class) for making the sisal itself. If you could not find it anywhere, you can make it yourself. Where you should start is by visiting a hardware store. Buy a brush for whitewashing houses there, it is cheap, and you can pull a lot of fibers from it.

Choose brushes with a thin, strong pile, the pile must certainly be natural.

The next point is how to make such a sisal colored:

  • Use dyes in tablets or powder;
  • Fill any vessel with hot water, add one tablespoon of vinegar there, and then the dye itself;
  • Soak the sisal divided into strands in the resulting solution for two and a half hours;
  • When the material dries, you can lay it out to dry on ordinary landscape sheets or napkins (of course, clean ones);
  • To get interesting colors, you can mix shades;
  • Natural dyes are also used - in the photo you can appreciate how beautifully sisal is dyed with ordinary potassium permanganate, beetroot juice, coffee grounds, etc. with your own hands.

And if you need a snow-white blank, you can soak the sisal in Whiteness, increasing the soaking time to six hours.

Very important: do not dry the sisal on newspaper or magazine sheets, it is possible that the letters will be imprinted on the material.

There is also such a thing as wicker (linen) sisal. How to make it with your own hands? Another little tutorial. Take an oilcloth, lay the prepared fibers on it in any order, and cover it well with wallpaper glue on top. Cover it all with another layer of film, press down with a flat board.

A day later, such a woven fabric can be used - for example, to make a sisal topiary.

Sisal Topiary (video master class)

Sisal balls for topiary: how to make

And one more simple master class for a future big craft. It involves the creation of sisal balls with your own hands.

How to make sisal balls:

  • Divide the sisal into small pieces;
  • Roll each piece slowly in your palms.

You yourself determine what size you need to make a ball for the topiary. Rolling circles is very simple, the denser, the more securely they will hold, the better the crown will turn out.

How to roll sisal balls (MK video)

Sisal Topiary: Master Class

Well, now you can start making sisal topiary. If possible, shoot the process on a video or photo, so that later you can make a video or photo master class, teach other novice masters.

So, you will need:

  • Sisal of a certain color (for example, purple). You can take several colors if you are sure that you can combine it correctly.
  • Pot.
  • Gypsum.
  • Styrofoam ball or any other base ball.
  • Water.
  • A branch from a tree. Of course, the trunk may be different, but the twig will do the job just fine.
  • Scissors.
  • Glue gun.
  • Wire cutters.
  • Decorative items of your choice.

When the product is almost ready, the final touch remains in the form of a "zest" in the decoration.

Sisal Christmas Tree Topiary: New Year's Master Class

The most relevant video and photo tutorials are devoted to the manufacture of sisal topiary, the model of which is a herringbone. Such a New Year's souvenir will be a great gift for friends and family. This New Year's souvenir is made very simply, and how such a Christmas tree will help out on holidays - a do-it-yourself thing is always a more valuable present when there is such a New Year's occasion.

How is such a Christmas tree made? The main crown for such a tree will not be a ball, but a cone. Well, if the ball is clear where to get it, then how to make a cone? The easiest option is to twist it out of cardboard. And it is better to fix the cone with adhesive tape, and not ordinary, but painter's tape - the future Christmas tree will be stronger.

Also, a plastic base for a children's pyramid or a foam blank is suitable as a blank.

  • The bottom of the cone must be closed in a circle;
  • Take a piece of wire, bend one end of it;
  • Pass the wire through the top of the cone, secure it with hot glue;
  • Make a hole in the circle with scissors, thread the circle onto a pencil;
  • Finally, glue the cone itself (future Christmas tree) on top of the pencil, glue the circle from below;
  • Tear off a piece of sisal and fix it on the end of the wire with the same hot glue;
  • Wrap the sisal tightly around the wire, and then begin wrapping movements around the cone, securing each turn with hot glue;
  • Sisal should thus be wrapped around the entire cone;
  • A pencil-trunk can be wrapped with twine or pasted over with silver narrow tape.

Decorate the pot too, moreover, you need to do this so that the color of the decor of the pot is in tune with the Christmas tree. For example, the Christmas tree is blue and the Christmas pot is also blue. If you want multicolor, it should also be in harmony. For example, the Christmas tree is green, and the pot is golden. In a word, the Christmas tree and the New Year's pot should overlap in color.

Well, such a Christmas tree will already be decorated the way you imagine. View photo or video examples of how other craftsmen decorate a similar colored sisal topiary. The Christmas tree can be decorated with a mini-garland, New Year's beads. It can even hang a festive ball, and not one - only very small ones.

Decorate the pot with your own hands - with golden braid, satin ribbons, snow-covered fruits. Inside the pot, upstairs, you can put a small New Year's photo to make it clear who this gift is from.

Master Class. DIY interior decoration for the New Year

Christmas tree - do-it-yourself topiary

Tsybanova Galina Anatolyevna, Lecturer, Tver Trade and Economic College
Purpose: I like to decorate my study room for the New Year.
But in the computer class, every square centimeter is occupied, so a small Christmas tree-topiary will come in handy. It is not a shame to give such a tree, you can even put it on the festive table.
Target:
- develop creative abilities
- cultivate imagination and fantasy

Hello, New Year's holiday,
Christmas tree and winter holiday!
All my friends today
We'll invite you to the Christmas tree.

Shine, Christmas tree lights,
Call us for a holiday!
Fulfill all desires
Make all your dreams come true!

For work we need:

1. Materials for the Christmas tree itself:
A sheet of thick A4 paper (I use drawing paper)
Aluminum wire 40 cm long
Styrofoam 8x8 cm
Lining fabric 10x10 cm
Green thick threads for the Christmas tree itself and brown for the trunk
PVA glue
Glue "Moment"
Two types of sequins
Christmas tree beads 50 cm
Braid for the bottom 30 cm
Ribbon for bows 30 cm

2. Materials for the pot:
A plastic cup
Building plaster
Burlap 20x8 cm
Lining fabric 8x8 cm
Sintepon 8x8 cm
Ribbon for decoration 20 cm (2 pcs)
Candy wrappers (for "gifts")

3.Tools:
Scissors
Ruler
Pen (or pencil)
pliers

Christmas tree making process:

1. Fold the "bag" from a sheet of paper, adjust its width along the bottom.
Coat the edges of the paper with PVA glue and press firmly.
2. Attach a ruler to the top of the cone and measure it in the shortest part
(this is the maximum possible height of the Christmas tree). Then, holding one end of the ruler
and gradually turning the cone, make marks of the same length along the entire lower part.

3. Cut off excess paper with scissors. The base of the tree is ready.

4. Put the cone on a piece of foam, circle the circle and carefully cut out the bottom.

5. Prepare the “trunk”: wrap a piece of wire on one side with brown thread
about 1/4 of its length. (I did not do it right away, so I experienced inconvenience)
6. With the upper part of the “trunk”, pierce the center of the foam circle and insert it
into a cone so that it protrudes 7-10 cm above the top and bend it with pliers.

7. Lubricate the bottom on the sides with PVA glue and insert into the lower part of the paper cone.
You can additionally stuff crumpled paper (newspaper) inside the cone so that the cone itself
did not deform during subsequent manipulations.
8. Make a hole in a piece of lining fabric 10x10 cm, put it on a wire
from below and carefully glue with PVA glue to the bottom, covering the entire foam.
For insurance, you can wrap the edges of the fabric along the bottom of the cone with several turns of thread.
I wrapped the entire cone with a thin thread lubricated with PVA glue for a better subsequent
adhesion to the main thread.

9. Fasten the green thread at the base of the cone, grease the cone
about 2 cm with PVA glue and wrap tightly with thread so that there are no gaps.
Then grease and wrap the next 2 cm, etc.
I did it in such a way that it was more convenient to hold the product and not get my hands dirty.

Here it is done...

10. The turn has come to the pot. Prepare the required container:
if the pot is small, the tree may collapse, and if it is too large, it will be ugly.
I cut off the yogurt cup.

The bottom was covered with lining fabric 8x8 cm, glued on PVA.
The sides were pasted over with burlap. The excess burlap was folded inside the pot.

11. Then you need to prepare a solution of gypsum, diluting it with water to a pasty state.
Here I cheated a little: I added a handful of river sand to the finished solution - and I saved gypsum, and the solution turned out to be heavier, which means that the stability of the future product is better.

The pot must be filled with gypsum mortar almost to the top.
12. It's time to insert the base of the tree trunk and the center of the pot and tamp the solution around it.
You can use the blunt end of the pencil, after wrapping it in cellophane.
The solution will "settle" and there will be a place for "snow". Now we need to leave our product for a couple of hours or until the next day, so that the solution hardens properly.
I had to put the Christmas tree "in the corner" for preservation.
Here I was so carried away that I forgot about the camera
13. Decorate the pot. The junction of the burlap can be sealed with tape.
Lay a synthetic winterizer around the trunk.
Glue the braid with Moment glue on top of the pot and around the base.
Attach bows and sequins if desired.
Under the Christmas tree - "gifts" of candy wrappers (there are also candy wrappers inside).

14. The final stage: decorating the Christmas tree itself. Attach tape first
along the bottom of the cone to further secure the threads and cover up possible flaws.
Then Christmas tree beads, individual beads, sequins, bows - and everything is glued "Moment"
(PVA dries for a long time).
Here is our beauty with her friends from "grass" and "swan's down"

And two more babies are born :)

And she herself has already taken pride of place in the computer class and reminds my students that the New Year is coming soon and it's time to take tests

P.S. Thank you for your attention.
This is my first masterclass. Lots of work, lots of ideas.
I already see my mistakes and lack of photos, I promise to improve

New Year holidays are one of the most anticipated and wonderful in our lives. It is noteworthy that every year, in anticipation of the New Year, we are waiting for something magical and trying to bring something new, unknown into our lives and, of course, into the house. The tradition of installing a live Christmas tree is gradually giving way to various home decoration options such as wreaths, artificial fir trees, and twigs. Do-it-yourself New Year's topiary is another option for crafts that can beautifully and inexpensively decorate a house for the 2020 holiday season.

Topiary is a beautiful tree in a pot, which is made by hand. The origin of such decorations can be called plant architecture, which was popular in the 17th century. Gardeners carved all kinds of figures from bushes: birds, animals, portraits.

To date, the topiary is a tree made of decorative, natural materials and others. Recently, they are even made from sweets, cheese and sausage. They are not suitable for decoration, but will be a great gift.

Simple topiary from Christmas tree decorations

One of the most common ideas on how to make a New Year's topiary involves the use of Christmas balls of different colors and sizes.

In addition to toys, you will need rain and tinsel, cones decorated with gilded paint, ribbons, bells and other decorative items.

Wrap the pot with cloth, ribbons or rain. If you initially chose a container with a good appearance, paint its surface with thematic patterns: snowflakes, Christmas trees, snowmen, etc. For decor, you can use colored paper and double-sided tape.

It is enough to repaint the axis of the tree in brown or wrap it with rain, ribbon or rope thread. Attach plastic Christmas balls to the crown. It is not necessary to make such a tree multi-colored: you can stop at a single color scheme - and pick up balls of the same tone, but of different sizes.

To keep the balls on the "crown" of the tree, use toothpicks. Treat their ends with glue: then the toothpick will stick tightly to the base, and the toy will not hang out.

Christmas tree of acorns and chestnuts

To make this craft you will need:

  • Several acorns and chestnuts.
  • Beads, glass beads of different sizes.
  • Golden spray paint.
  • Acrylic paints.
  • Glue gun.
  • 200-300 gr. alabaster and/or plaster.
  • A piece of beautiful fabric for decorating a pot (maybe unbleached linen).
  • Beautiful strong branch for the trunk.
  • A suitable glass or pot for the base (usually equal in diameter to the diameter of the crown).
  • Foam ball for the crown.

How to do:

  1. The manufacture of the crown ball is described above.
  2. Prepare a topiary for decoration, fix the tree in a pot.
  3. Prepare acorns and chestnuts. Spray some with golden spray and, when dry, attach one at a time with a glue gun to the crown. It is necessary to carefully select acorns and chestnuts in size so that the roundness of the crown is preserved.
  4. Gently glue beads and beads into the gaps so that there are no gaps.
  5. Decorate the trunk of the craft. It can be painted with acrylic paint or sprayed with gold spray and glued some beads to it.
  6. Decorate the base. On the frozen alabaster, fix a couple of acorns and beads. You can also spray alabaster or paint over the alabaster so that there are no gaps. And you can sprinkle a finely cut fabric on the glue, and then fix the acorns and beads.

Christmas tree made of cones

For this example, a cone-shaped crown base made of polyurethane foam is used.

You will need:

  • Cones of various sizes.
  • Acrylic paints.
  • Red beads.
  • Small decorations (Christmas balls).
  • You can take several coins of various sizes.
  • Pot.
  • Fabric for decor.
  • Glue gun.

How to do:

  1. Prepare the product for decoration. If the tree will be in a pot, it is important that the pot is covered with fabric before pouring with alabaster. And it is better to fasten the fabric so that traces of glue are not visible. That is, from the inner edge and at the very bottom at the bottom.
  2. It is better to paint the cone with paints to match the cones or green.
  3. Place the smallest cones at the top, attach the largest cones to the bottom of the cone.
  4. Fill in the spaces between the cones. There you can attach coins, small jewelry, beads.
  5. Attach beads to the finished Christmas tree and decorate the foot.

Fragrant topiary from coffee beans

And such an element of decor will not only decorate your home, but also create a warming atmosphere. Both a round topiary and a miniature Christmas tree can be decorated using coffee beans. The only way to fix these elements on the surface is to use glue.

If the grains are difficult to stick to the surface of the tree (for example, when using polystyrene foam as the main material), consider how to wrap the “crown” before decorating.

Coffee beans on the topiary will look spectacular in their original form. But if you decide to diversify the decor, use gilded paint or sparkles. Rope fabric or braid can be combined with grains, as well as some dried fruits.

note. that it is better to spread the grains in different ways: let the layers from the front and back sides of the grains alternate with each other. Some grains can be made "hanging" from the crown of trees: use colored threads, ropes or a thin rain.

Topiary of sweets

Topiary made from edible sweet elements is very popular. Wrap the ball with a cloth, and wrap the Christmas tree topiary with a wide ribbon. Start attaching candies in bright wrappers to the textile surface.

They can be glued, sewn or fixed with a stapler. We advise you to choose sweets with a similar design and harmonious colors in advance - and combine them in such a way that the decorated topiary does not look contradictory.

Beads, beads, decorative snow, small Christmas balls, rain, and lace elements are traditionally used to mask the space between sweets.

Another option for a sweet tree for the new year is a topiary with tangerine decor. Attach leaves or twigs of a Christmas tree to a spherical base: they can be either natural or artificial. Take a strong wire - and wrap the tangerines: it will be easier to fix them to the surface.

To decorate the branches themselves, take small beads (it is easily glued to fabric and plastic) or artificial snow. To make such a tree even more fragrant, add dry bay leaves to the composition.

These and other New Year's topiary workshops will help you create a stylish and memorable gift for your family and friends for the New Year. And, most importantly, you will not spend a lot of money on decorating a tree.

And you can also involve children in the process of creating trees and Christmas trees, who will only be happy to have the opportunity to show their creative abilities.

Money Tree

A round crown made of polyurethane foam is suitable here.

You will need:

  • Artificial banknotes and coins.
  • Twine.
  • Sackcloth.
  • A few candies or dried decorative fruits.
  • A clay pot is good for support.

How to do:

  1. A clay pot can be beautifully painted with acrylic paints.
  2. The barrel is made of twisted wires. It should be 1-2 cm in diameter and about 10 cm high. You can bend it beautifully.
  3. On a tree fixed in a pot, carefully glue the coins with a glue gun. Glue from top to bottom so that it looks like the petals are opening.
  4. Decorate the base with green tinsel. Attach folded bills, a typewriter and a couple of sweets or decorative fruits.

tree of napkins

You will need:

  • Openwork base-ball of threads.
  • Paper napkins.
  • Some lace and ribbons.
  • Branch for the trunk.
  • For support, you can use an elegant cup.

How to do:

  1. Set the tree in the cup. Decorate the cup by adding lace and satin ribbons and bows.
  2. The trunk branch can also be wrapped with ribbons.
  3. For the crown, twist roses from napkins.
  4. Secure them to the ball with studs.
  5. Add lace and ribbon bows in between.
  6. The finished craft is very tender and airy. The final touch can be some kind of light accent in the form of an intricate bow of lace and ribbons, or a piece of candied decorative lemon at the foot of a tree.

Do you want to learn how to make beautiful Christmas decorations? To quickly master the manufacturing technology, study the Sisal Christmas Tree master class. Below are several options for designs and decor. Read on, choose the right one. Create spectacular details of the festive atmosphere.

Sisal

This term refers to a special natural fiber obtained from the fresh leaves of a plant of the Agave genus. Unpainted material has a light yellowish tint. For practical purposes, it is used for the production of ropes, twine and other things. Currently, sisal is popular in the field of decorating floristic compositions, as well as creating souvenirs and handmade jewelry. Master class "Herringbone of sisal" will teach you how to make the most of the properties of this material for design purposes.

Christmas gifts

If you are interested in the possibilities of this material or have been eyeing it for a long time in a flower shop, then it's time to create hand-made gifts with it. Master class "Herringbone from sisal" will show you how to make different types of decorations:

  • herringbone pendant;
  • topiary;
  • Christmas tree made from sisal balls.

Manufacturing options are different. Decoration for the holiday can be made both in the traditional green color, and in any other, for example, blue or red. The material is sold in a fairly wide range of colors, but on the eve of the New Year holidays, green just may not be there. So you should worry in advance, but if you didn’t have time, it’s okay - you just have to paint the existing blanks in the right color.

What will be required

A do-it-yourself sisal Christmas tree can be made in many ways. You can use any materials to complete the base: both purchased and those that you already have in stock. All options will be discussed below, and the list of necessary tools, compositions and accessories is as follows:

  • foam cone;
  • cardboard or paper;
  • pencil;
  • compass;
  • stapler or tape;
  • glue or thermal gun;
  • wire;
  • wire cutters;
  • gypsum or alabaster;
  • mixing container;
  • stirring stick;
  • cup or pot for fixing the base;
  • rod, stick, skewers to create a stem;
  • sisal of the desired color;
  • paint of the corresponding sisal shade;
  • brush or sponge (sponge);
  • decorative elements (satin ribbons, beads, beads, sequins, bows, balls, tinsel, soft, etc.)

Using this list, you can easily determine what you need or which way to work to choose, based on what you already have in stock.

How to make a Christmas tree out of paper

In order for you to get a beautiful and neat sisal Christmas tree (it’s not so difficult to make such a miracle with your own hands, as in the picture above), you need to properly prepare the basis for decorating. If you have not bought a foam blank, it is easiest to make it in the form of a cone made of cardboard or thick paper. The work goes in the following sequence:

  1. Roll up a piece of paper in the form of a bag, or first draw a diagram of the future cone with a compass and ruler.
  2. Glue the workpiece with an overlap using a thermal gun, ordinary glue, adhesive tape (can be double-sided) or fasten the seam in several places with a stapler.
  3. On another sheet of paper or cardboard, draw a circle with a diameter corresponding to the base. Gluing allowances should be done if you do not have a heat gun. They can attach one part to another end face.
  4. Glue the circle to the cone.
  5. Paint the resulting part in the tone of sisal so that ugly gray cardboard or white paper does not shine through the gaps between the fibers.

The workpiece has been completed. You can start decorating.

Fabric base

You have learned how to make a sisal Christmas tree, or rather, so far you have only made the paper base for it. Another option is to make a soft blank from fabric or filler, for example, synthetic winterizer. To do this, do the following:

  1. Cut the synthetic winterizer or prepared dense fabric into strips. Width and length depend on what size of material you have, as well as the size of the souvenir that you plan to make.
  2. As a frame, take a strong wire of the desired length.
  3. Start winding strips of synthetic winterizer on the rod from the place where the top of the tree will be, downwards, not reaching the end of the wire a few centimeters. To prevent the material from moving out of the frame, be sure to fix it with glue.
  4. When the first strip is over, continue on with the second, and so on.
  5. Pay special attention to the base of the workpiece. In this part, uniform expansion should occur.

The second method will require a tighter arrangement of the sisal fibers so that the filler does not show through, however, with this method, you can give the tree a slightly rounded shape. It will look more natural, not geometric.

How to make a suspension

So, you have learned how to make a Christmas tree. Very beautiful topiaries are obtained from sisal, both a pendant and just a decoration that can be put on a festive table will look great. Depending on what you want to make, choose the appropriate method of attaching (installing) crafts.

If you want your souvenir to be placed on the Christmas tree or decorate the interior with it, and you are thinking how to make a Christmas tree pendant, make a loop or hook in the upper part of the workpiece. You can make such a functional element like this:

1. For a paper cone: fold a small piece of wire in half into a loop and thread it through the hole at the top of the cone. Tie a knot on the inside, twist the ends of the wire with wire cutters, and drip glue from the heat gun on the outside. You need to perform the operation before gluing the bottom.

2. For soft workpiece: before you start winding the strips on the core, step back to the desired length of the wire and roll it into a loop. If you want the suspension element to be thinner and more decorative than the frame rod, attach a loop made of thin wire or other material to the top of the rod.

Sisal Christmas trees

The master class came to the most important stage - gluing a layer of sisal. This must be done carefully so as not to damage the fibers. If the color of the base of the Christmas tree matches the shade of the material, you can glue the sisal in one layer. When you need to hide the "insides", you will have to try and wrap the Christmas tree with a lot of material if you bought it in the form of a roll.

As for the base, you can cut it out in the form of a circle, and carefully decorate the borders of the transition from the cone to the bottom. If you have sisal in the form of a fiber, and not a sheet (roll), the surface of the tree may turn out to be excessively shaggy. To eliminate this drawback, you will have to wrap the workpiece with a special bouillon thread, for example, silver.

New Year's topiary

This souvenir is a small man-made tree trimmed in the form of a ball in a pot.

Usually, a foam ball or a papier-mâché sphere is taken as the basis. If you want to make from sisal, then take the same cone as for a regular Christmas tree as a blank. In order for your Christmas tree to become what is called a topiary, you will have to make a stem, which is fixed at one end in a cone, and at the other in a pot. This construction is carried out as follows:

  1. Take a glass, pot or other suitable container.
  2. Pour some water and put plaster or alabaster. Mix the ingredients thoroughly. The consistency should resemble thick sour cream.
  3. Pour the composition into a pot.
  4. Immediately, before the plaster has hardened, place a stick, a rod or a stem made up of several thin skewers in the center of the pot. Hold it so that it does not fall or move while the mass hardens.
  5. When the composition has become solid, cut off the top of the cup if you did not fill the plaster to the brim.
  6. Wrap the stem with decorative tape. It is better to do it at this stage, so as not to stain the decorated surface with drops of liquid gypsum when installing the rod.
  7. Also decorate the pot, for example, with a satin ribbon.
  8. The surface of gypsum is easy to decorate with the same sisal, tinsel, beads or coffee beans.
  9. Fix the Christmas tree-cone on the rod, having previously cut a hole of the appropriate diameter in the base of the craft. Glue the joint with a thermal gun.

If your Christmas tree is made of soft material wound on a metal rod, you will not need an additional stem. Place the finished structure directly into the pot of hardening plaster. The main thing is not to stain the product.

Herringbone from sisal balls

All steps for making such a souvenir will be similar to those described above. The difference is that the surface of the Christmas tree will not be flat, but will consist of balls.

They can be twisted directly from the fibers or any filler can be used as a base, for example, a synthetic winterizer, which will be wrapped with sisal on top. This will save decorative material and make more balls. By the way, they can be the same in diameter or different. In the latter case, large ones should be placed closer to the base of the tree, and small ones, respectively, to the top.

How to decorate a product

Sisal Christmas trees look especially cute if they are decorated with all sorts of small details.

The options you can use are:

  • String beads or beads on a thread or wire (or buy ready-made) and wrap the product in a spiral from top to bottom.
  • The same as in the previous paragraph is easy to do with thin satin, brocade or other decorative ribbon, lace or braid.
  • Glue lumps of artificial snow (purchased or made from cotton wool) at the base of the Christmas tree or on the top of the pot.
  • Cut out the snowflakes and glue them to the surface of the Christmas tree.
  • Use tinsel.
  • In the free areas between the ribbons, you can place small balls, bows.
