How is the pregnancy going?
In the first obstetric week of pregnancy, the female body begins to prepare for possible fertilization, which will occur later.
In the second week, the "leader" in this cycle is determined - the egg, which will give rise to a new life.
As a rule, at the end of the second - the beginning of the third obstetric week of pregnancy, fertilization occurs - the fusion of a mature egg with the most nimble and persistent sperm from a huge number of applicants. As a loving man completely dissolves in the object of his passion, so the spermatozoon dissolves inside the parent egg. The genetic information of the parents is combined. Now a new life exists!
At the fourth week, the baby is a lump of rapidly dividing cells. When viewed under high magnification, the embryo resembles a raspberry.
At the fifth week of pregnancy, the laying of the most important systems begins. Now the heart, blood vessels and respiratory system are being formed - something that is vital for independent existence.
Next week, the future baby has a hint of arms and legs, separate parts of the inner ear and larynx are formed.
At the seventh week, the fetus actively develops the brain, the gastrointestinal tract begins to form, and the lungs form.
In the eighth week, the great sculptor - nature is engaged in fine work. Ears, nose and upper lip are now formed, as well as fingers on the hands.
At the ninth week of pregnancy, the back of the embryo will begin to straighten, and the tail will “dry out”. The baby's brain develops at a tremendous pace.
The laying of milk teeth begins next week. The embryo is now surrounded by amniotic fluid, protecting it inside from shock and shaking.
At the eleventh week, the unborn baby already has sexual characteristics, and with the help of modern equipment, future parents can now find out who is inside - a charming girl or a strong little boy. In addition, the color of the eyes is determined in the fetus.
By the twelfth week of pregnancy, the future baby has practically formed all the systems of the body. In the remaining time, they will grow and develop.
The thirteenth week ends the first trimester of pregnancy. The placenta is fully formed. Now she will be responsible for the delivery of nutrients and oxygen from mother to baby.
At 14 weeks, the baby is covered with a gentle fluff - lanugo. It retains a cheese-like lubricant, which in turn protects the baby from the surrounding waters.
It has been proven that already at the 15th week of pregnancy, the baby's tiny heart passes more than 20 liters of blood per day. The skin of the belligerent is thin and red, it is still so different from a well-fed baby.
At the sixteenth week, the fetal head is no longer so pressed to the chest, it gradually straightens. The muscles of the face are developed, so the child can wink and frown.
At week 17, "brown fat" begins to be deposited, which is necessary for the body's heat exchange. But there is still no subcutaneous fat.
At the 18th week of pregnancy, the baby can already hear you, as the structures of the middle ear are being improved. It's time to talk to the child and sing children's songs to him.
The following week, the limbs grow and become more proportional.
At the twentieth week, the puffer is a miniature man - with a delicate fluff on his head and tiny nails on his fingers and toes. He has a lot to do - the baby yawns, sucks his fist, somersaults.
In the twenty-first week, blood cells begin to be produced, which are responsible for protecting the body from infections. Thanks to the developed papillae on the tongue, the fetus feels the taste of the surrounding waters.
At week 22, the baby strokes his arms, legs, face, sucks his finger and pushes off the walls of the uterus with his legs.
At the twenty-third week, the fetus begins to store subcutaneous fat.
At the 24th week of pregnancy, the baby becomes larger and more well-fed. It occupies almost the entire uterus, it becomes more and more difficult to tumble.
The next week, bones are strengthened, joints are formed.
At 26 weeks, the baby is able to open his eyes.
The third trimester starts with the twenty-seventh week. A baby weighing approximately 1000 g has all the main systems working, although their development has not yet been completed.
At week 28, the brain grows, new cells and nerve connections are formed.
At the twenty-ninth week, the baby has already learned to more or less regulate its own body temperature.
At the thirtieth week, the baby's eyes are wide open, he reacts to the contrast light penetrating through the mother's tummy.
The following week, the baby reacts to loud noises and pain. You can feel it move as the doctor feels your abdomen.
At 32 weeks of gestation, the baby hears perfectly what is happening outside the tummy. He recognizes the beating of his mother's heart, bowel movements and the sound of blood flowing through the umbilical cord. That is why the baby calms down after birth if the mother presses him to her chest, because he hears the usual sounds of her heart.
At 33 weeks, the baby still has enough space for movement, but every day the space of the temporary house - the uterus becomes more and more cramped for him.
By the next week, subcutaneous fat is already a tenth of the baby's weight, which gives the skin of the fetus a smooth and pinkish tint.
From week 35, the baby will gain 200-220 grams weekly to his current weight (approximately 2550 g).
The next week, the baby's face became smooth, plump cheeks appeared.
At week 37, the baby is ready for birth and has taken its final position in the uterus.
At 38 weeks, the baby lost lanugo. There is less original lubricant.
At the thirty-ninth week of pregnancy, the walls of the uterus contract from time to time, "rehearsing" childbirth.
At the fortieth week, fetal movements slowed down in anticipation of birth. His intestines are filled with original feces (meconium). The appearance of the crumbs into the world should be expected at any time.
At 41 weeks of pregnancy, all organs and systems of the unborn child are ready to start independent work at any time.
At 42 weeks, the baby grew long nails on all fingers, hair. His eyes are open, he is becoming more active again.
In our calendar, each week of pregnancy, we will consider in as much detail as possible. Welcome!

The pregnancy calendar is a kind of list of all the important moments of pregnancy. You can also use it to calculate the due date. In order to calculate when a long-awaited event will happen, you just need to:
- Remember the date of the last menstruation, for example: December 17, 2015.
- Then the most likely date of conception: January 1, 2016.
- Estimated date of birth of the child: September 22, 2016.
You can determine the expected date of birth yourself using a simple calculation scheme. To do this, remember the date of the first day of the last menstruation and add 280 days to this number.
Pregnancy calculator online
Especially for you, dear future mothers, the site has developed an online pregnancy calendar. With it, you can easily find out the date of the expected birth, the age of the baby in the tummy, how many days are left until a significant event, and also find out who your baby will be according to the zodiac sign.
pregnancy calendars
Calculate your pregnancy calendar by week. Every week of your pregnancy from 1 to 40 weeks with details.
Pregnancy is an amazing and exciting time in a woman's life. In just 40 weeks, a whole organism is formed from one cell, capable of living in the environment. A person never again develops at such a rapid pace as in the prenatal period. Every day the appearance of the fetus changes, new organs, new abilities appear. The appearance and well-being of a woman is also rapidly changing - last month her “interesting position” was not noticeable to anyone, and today a pretty round tummy has already appeared. During the gestation of the fetus, you need to do a lot - you will have to go through more than one medical examination, pass several tests, review your menu and sleep patterns, change habits and update your wardrobe. It is better to prepare for all the changes in life in advance, and especially so that you are aware of all the upcoming surprises, we have prepared a detailed weekly pregnancy calendar.
Where does the two-week confusion come from?
Doctors in antenatal clinics traditionally count the gestational age starting from the first day of the last menstruation, despite the fact that conception occurs, according to such calculations, only in the third week of pregnancy. Our interactive calendar is built according to the same scheme - this is the so-called obstetric pregnancy calendar. There is another, much less frequently used, method for calculating the duration of pregnancy, when the day of conception is taken as the starting point. The resulting calendar, it would be correct to call the calendar of fetal development. Sometimes this method is reflected in the conclusions of obstetric ultrasound, where it is possible to determine the life expectancy of the fetus with an accuracy of one day, especially in the first trimester. As a rule, the fetal development calendar lags behind the obstetric pregnancy calendar by about 2 weeks.
It is most logical to paint the pregnancy by weeks - so you will better imagine how your baby grows and what processes pregnancy causes in your own body. Studying the weekly pregnancy calendar, you will find timely advice on how to choose clothes for pregnant women, how to avoid toxicosis, how to eat right during pregnancy. Accordingly, each week the size of the fetus and its new skills are given - you will be surprised at how much it already has, when even the tummy is not yet visible to others!
In order to automatically calculate the pregnancy calendar, you can use the calculator on the site. It is enough to enter the date of the first day of your last period, and you will receive a weekly calendar of your own pregnancy. Perhaps it should be interesting for a pregnant woman to find out every week about how her baby's life is going, but you should not take the given terms literally. Keep in mind that the duration of pregnancy, as well as the rate of fetal development, is always individual and may differ slightly from the data provided by the interactive pregnancy calendar. The following pattern is characteristic - the longer the menstrual cycle, the longer the pregnancy lasts.

Pregnancy is a long-awaited and desired event for many women. And now it will be interesting for you to find out everything about your situation: how pregnancy develops by weeks, what happens in the body. And it is with the help of the pregnancy calendar that you can do this very quickly and easily.
Pregnancy Calendar is a convenient and useful service for future parents of moms and dads, which will tell you in great detail about pregnancy by weeks. He can be your companion throughout the entire period of pregnancy up to the birth itself.
Pregnancy is divided into 3 trimesters:
- First trimester - 1-13 weeks after conception
- Second trimester - 14-26 weeks
- Third trimester - 27-40 weeks
How does the fetus develop during each trimester? Our pregnancy calendar will give you the answer.
Why you need a pregnancy calendar
The pregnancy calendar will tell expectant mothers about how their baby changes and grows at one time or another, how its organs develop, how the baby gains weight. Our pregnancy calendar will tell you what to do and what to abstain from at each stage of pregnancy, which doctors to visit, how to eat and what lifestyle to lead so that your baby is born healthy.
Also, our online pregnancy calendar will help you find out in which week with the help of ultrasound you can determine the girl you have to be born or the boy.
It is this weekly pregnancy calendar that gynecologists use when determining the age and development of the fetus. But there is also the age of the fetus, which differs from the menstrual period of pregnancy by 2 weeks.
In addition, this online pregnancy calendar allows expectant mothers to communicate and share their feelings and impressions with friends in an interesting position every week of pregnancy. Leave your comments and you will find out who has the same feelings and what they can mean.
But you need to know that the body of each pregnant woman is different, and our calendar does not take into account the individual characteristics of the menstrual cycle, so the calendar contains general information for everyone. All dates are approximate, as the length of the menstrual cycle varies from woman to woman and can vary, as a rule, from 24 to 36 days. In addition, you need to take into account the fact that the cycle may be irregular.
Reviews
Galina Chalay
I approached the moment of conception very consciously and, of course, I take my pregnancy responsibly. It is very important for me to know what happens to the baby at each stage of his development. After all, from the moment of conception, he is my child, whom I must take care of. Therefore, I always look with pleasure at the pregnancy calendar and read how my son lives in my tummy.
Natalia Semerichko
For me, the most important thing was that by reading about my week of pregnancy, I could chat on the forum and discuss feelings with other expectant mothers who are at the same time.
Maria Krylova
This calendar helped me learn a lot of useful information about my future baby. During this period, I was most interested in how he was in my tummy. After all, this was my first pregnancy. Very convenient and helpful service. Thank you very much!

Any woman who is preparing to become a mother is looking forward to the appearance of two cherished strips on the test. After this moment, excitement and anxiety arise. Is the baby developing normally when you need to go for the first ultrasound, and, finally, when is the birth coming? All these questions can be answered by knowing the exact gestational age.
What is the gestational age?
Very often, confusion in the head of a pregnant woman arises from a misunderstanding of this term. Therefore, it is important to know when the development of the embryo begins, and when the countdown to birth begins.
The egg after ovulation (exit from the ovary) lives for about a day. It is this time that is considered the most favorable for conception. With a menstrual cycle of 28 days, ovulation occurs on the 14th day. At the time of fertilization, the sperm fuses with the egg, and a week later the developing embryo attaches to the inner lining of the uterus.
Since in most women the length of the menstrual cycle is not constant, no one knows the exact date of ovulation and conception. Therefore, all obstetricians in the world are considered to be the beginning of pregnancy on the first day of the last menstruation. After 9 months (280 days) after this day, childbirth should take place. This is the paradox: the countdown of pregnancy has already begun, but conception has not yet occurred. Therefore, the life of the embryo is less than the gestational age by an average of 2 weeks.
Methods for determining the gestational age and date of birth
All doctors in the world determine the duration of pregnancy by one main parameter (ultrasound) and two auxiliary ones (date of menstruation and examination of the pregnant woman).
ultrasound
The main method is ultrasound. It is important to remember that the accuracy of this method is maximum in the first 10-12 weeks, and then it drops. Therefore, it is ultrasound of the first trimester that is widely used to determine the expected date of birth.
Modern devices can detect a fetal egg in the uterus from 3-5 weeks of pregnancy. As the embryo grows to 3-4 mm, it becomes possible to measure its KTP (coccyx-parietal size), which serves as the basis for determining the gestational age to the nearest day. Usually, in the conclusion, the doctor indicates which period he means: obstetric (from the last menstruation) or embryonic (from the moment of conception).
After 22 weeks of pregnancy, it is impossible to accurately determine the age of the fetus. But the measurement of its main parameters (head size, femur length, abdominal circumference) allows us to evaluate the dynamics of growth. If it does not correspond to the period declared during ultrasound in the 1st trimester, then there is a possibility of fetal growth retardation syndrome. In addition, there are individual hereditary characteristics (short stature, large head), due to which, in the third trimester, the gestational age cannot be calculated by ultrasound.
Date of the last menstruation - calculation calculator
Determining the gestational age by the day of the last menstruation is the most affordable way for a woman. If the expectant mother is a happy owner of a regular cycle of 28 days, then she can independently and fairly accurately calculate the date of birth. There are special Naegele formulas for this.
PDR \u003d LMP - 3 months + 7 days
- EDD - estimated date of birth
- LMP - the first day of the last menstruation
For example, if the LAP was on June 15th, then PDR = June 15th - 3 months + 7 days = March 15th + 7 days = March 21st. This is the basis for determining the date of birth in all special calculators for calculating the gestational age.
Gestational age is determined by adding to the LMP the number of weeks that have passed since that day. Therefore, every woman can calculate the gestational age using a regular calendar.
When is it impossible to determine the period for menstruation?
- Irregular menstrual cycle. With a cycle greater than 35 days, ovulation does not occur on the 14th day. Therefore, the Negele formula will give an inaccurate result (see).
- Taking birth control. If the regularity of taking oral contraceptives is not observed, pregnancy may occur. Due to sudden ovulation, the formula for calculating the EDD is also not suitable (see).
- With the threat of termination of early pregnancy. It happens that there is a threat of termination of pregnancy at the shortest possible time. Very often it is manifested by scanty spotting on the days corresponding to the expected menstruation. That is, a woman can confuse bleeding at the 5th week of pregnancy and regular menstruation, and will not even guess about her interesting position. In such cases, the period is determined using ultrasound.
Examination of a pregnant woman
The registration of each pregnant woman in the antenatal clinic begins with an examination. Determining the size of the uterus and the height of its bottom (that is, the upper part) can provide indicative information about the gestational age. This method is not 100% accurate. After all, the individual location of the uterus, fibroids and a full bladder can make it difficult to examine. A multiple pregnancy is associated with a large increase in this body.
HCG level
Already 8-10 days after conception, the B-subunit of hCG is determined in the blood of the expectant mother. This hormone appears during pregnancy and doubles every 2-3 days (see). It is possible to judge the gestational age by its level only indirectly.
- Firstly, the hCG rates for each week of pregnancy have a large range.
- Secondly, its level increases with multiple pregnancies and some anomalies in the development of the fetus. Therefore, it makes no sense to focus on this hormone when calculating the gestational age by weeks, when more accurate methods are available (ultrasound, for example).
Date of first movement
It is believed that nulliparous women feel fetal movements from the 20th week of pregnancy. Multiparous can feel them already from 16-18 weeks. In fact, it all depends on the individual characteristics of the mother and child, the thickness of the fat layer on the pregnant woman's abdomen and on her desire to feel the tremors. In addition, intestinal peristalsis is often taken as the first movement. Therefore, you should not rely on this indicator in calculating the gestational age.
How to determine the gestational age during IVF?
With in vitro fertilization, many women doubt how to correctly count the weeks of pregnancy. After all, an already developing embryo is planted in the uterine cavity. But regardless of the method of fertilization (naturally, sperm insemination or IVF), the gestational age is determined from the first day of the last menstruation. The only exception can be considered IVF with a menstrual suppression protocol (superlong protocol). In this case, the period is counted from the day of embryo transfer with the addition of two weeks.
Why do doctors determine the exact gestational age?
- To assess the rate of fetal development
- To determine the date of birth
- For screening for chromosomal mutations (Down syndrome, etc.)
- To determine the viability of a child in preterm birth
The main goal of determining the gestational age for the expectant mother is to tune in to the upcoming birth of the baby and get acquainted with information about intrauterine development by weeks.
