1. First we make 6 such square blanks for the future snowflake. You can download these blanks for small or large snowfields, and then print them out on a printer. If you are creating a large snowflake, then it is better to use high-density paper - this is necessary so that the snowflake can hold its shape. Fold each square in half diagonally and make cuts with scissors, heading from the fold to the center line.

2. We open the square with cuts, which was folded diagonally, and place it in front of us as shown in the picture. We twist the first row of strips with a tube and fasten them with glue.

3. We turn the snowflake over to the other side and start working with the next two strips: we also connect them and fasten them with glue. We continue to work in the same spirit: we turn the snowflake over and fasten the remaining strips. As a result of the actions taken, we should have such a twisted bizarre element.

4. We have created one of the rays for our three-dimensional snowflake, and we need to make six of these! Therefore, we do the same with the other 5 blanks. We connect in the middle three rays of snowflakes with a stapler. Similarly, we connect the remaining three rays of the snowflake. Next, we connect these two large parts together.

5. Our beautiful volumetric snowflake is almost ready! It is only necessary with the help of glue to connect the snowflake in those places where the rays touch each other. This is necessary in order for the snowflake to keep its shape properly.

How to make a three-dimensional origami snowflake?

It will not be so easy here, and it is possible that you will spend at least one hour creating your first origami snowflake. Well, in the future, when you understand the algorithm for creating such snowflakes, things will go much faster. One caveat - the thinner the paper, the more elegant the snowflakes will turn out. Translucent translucent snowflakes will look great on the window. Well, at first you can train on office plain paper.

Before creating an origami snowflake, you need to turn a rectangular or square sheet of paper into a hexagon. This is one of the most important points, which will then affect whether our venture will be successful.

1. We fold the paper twice in half so that clear fold lines are visible.

5. Focusing on the X points, cut off a part of the workpiece along the blue line with scissors. In the future, we only need the hexagon - part A.

6. We bend one of the sides of the hexagon to the center to form a fold line. We do the same with all 6 sides. Now we have many lines within our hexagon that form small triangles.

7. Again, bend the edge of the hexagon to the center. Using the fold lines made in the previous step, we bend flap A to B, as shown in the left picture. We fold the other two sides of the hexagon in the same way until we create a figure that resembles a pinwheel in shape. The last valve can easily cause difficulty, since it will be hidden under the fold. It needs to be pulled out so that we have six valves sticking out, as shown in the picture on the right.

8. Lightly press the fold of each pocket with your finger to form something similar to the picture in the center. It does not matter which of the valves will be on top.

9. We bend on each unfolded pocket two blue corners to the central part of the dotted line. This must be done to prepare the fold line for the next step. The resulting figure should be externally similar to the image on the right.

10. Carefully unfold the folds made in step 8 to open the fold lines. In each pocket we combine the blue and red dots X. The fold lines obtained in step 9 will help us with this. When we do this operation with all 6 pockets, our figure will look like the image on the right.

11. We turn the workpiece over and bend each corner of the hexagon to the center. A small flap should form each adjacent fold. Do not hide the small valve under the fold. Let him stay on top. You did everything right if you got a blank that looks like the picture on the right.

12. For all small flaps, press the fold line to get new fold lines that will be needed in the next step.

13. We turn out the folds made in the previous step, hiding the valves from below.

14. We turn the figure over, turn each corner from the center as far as possible and bend it. We should have 12 valves - 6 large and 6 small.

15. We turn the workpiece over. Between the two large valves you see small valves. We push each small valve forward. Now we have six diamonds.

16. For each half of the rhombus, we pull the blue edge to the center of the rhombus and press the fold to the edge. As a result, we have a figure, as in the image on the right. It remains to repeat this action 12 times and the origami snowflake will be ready!

How to make a paper kirigami snowflake?

Kirigami is a type of origami in which it is allowed to use scissors in the process of making a figure and cut paper with them. The method of cutting out kirigami snowflakes does not differ very much from making simple paper snowflakes, but the result is much more interesting and creative.

First, you create such a template, using which anyone, even a child, can make a six-ray kirigami snowflake. On a sheet of paper for this we build an angle of 60 degrees. In building a corner, a protractor will come to our aid.

The first type includes the usual origami, which involves folding paper sheets in a certain order, after which a three-dimensional product with a 3D effect is obtained. In this case, you do not have to glue and fix anything. All that will be required of you to create decorations is just to fold the sheet correctly.

The second and more complex type of this technique is the so-called karigami. In this case, the process involves both the correct folding of the sheet and the most accurate cutting of the pattern. If you are making such an origami snowflake for the first time, then it will be better if you first draw the future pattern and only then start cutting it out.

You can do this with both standard scissors and manicure scissors. The latter option is preferable for beginners, as they will make it possible to correctly cut through the most intricate pattern. After cutting, you just have to bend some parts and the voluminous karigami snowflake will be ready.

To create this decoration, you will need scissors, glue and thin strips of paper of any color. If you want to make the most airy snowflake, then use strips 3 to 5 millimeters wide to make it. If you plan to decorate the house with large voluminous snowflakes, then cut strips from 8 millimeters wide.

So, first of all, we take a sheet of paper and cut off five strips of the same width from it. The length of these blanks will be different. In order to make one part of the snowflake you will need 1 strip 25 cm long, 2 strips 21 cm long and two strips 19 cm long.

At the next stage, we coat the ends of the blanks with glue and carefully fasten them. We let the petals dry a little, and then we begin to form a voluminous leaf out of them. Be sure to check whether all the parts are well fixed together and, if necessary, then additionally fix them with a thread or an ordinary clothespin.

Thus, we make at least eight more paper sheets. If you want the finished product to be more voluminous, then make 10 or 12 leaves. Let the blanks dry well and start assembling the product.

Cut a 1 cm wide strip of thick paper and glue it into a circle. All previously made blanks must be carefully attached to this circle. If you see that the design is not very strong, then first try to glue the leaves themselves together and only then fix them on the core.

The next way to create a three-dimensional snowflake is considered quite complicated, but still, if you decide to make an ornament using this method, you will be satisfied with the result (scheme No. 2). To create a medium-sized decoration, you will need 6 strips 25 cm long, glue and paper clips.

At the first stage, we begin to weave the strips together so that a square forms in the center. We fix each strip with glue or a paper clip.

At the second stage, we begin to connect strips that are closely spaced to each other. To do this, first grease their ends with glue, and then carefully fasten them together. After these steps, you should get some kind of leaf.

We form the three remaining parts of the blank in this way and proceed to the creation of another such part of the snowflake. After it is ready, you just have to put them together in such a way that visually your product resembles a flower. After the glue dries, the paper clips can be removed and the snowflake can be hung on the Christmas tree or attached to the window.

To get started, take paper and cut strips of the same width from it. Their width can vary from 7 to 15 centimeters.

Fold the blanks in half, and then draw the outline of the future ornament on them. Take scissors (you can use nail scissors) and carefully cut through the pattern.

If you chose not very thick paper for making a snowflake, then you can fold two parts at once and cut them together.

Then fold each part separately with an accordion. Make sure that all segments of the workpiece have the same size. If at least one of them is larger or smaller than necessary, then you simply cannot glue the two parts together.

When the accordions are ready, coat their edges with glue, fasten them and wait for them to dry completely. After that, take a snowflake and straighten it with smooth movements.

If you want the Christmas decoration to be brighter, then use paper of different colors to make it. For example, combine white with blue, pink, peach or mint. Also, if you wish, you can glue a few small beads or bright glass pieces on the snowflake.

This step by step tutorial will teach you how to make SIX pointed paper snowflakes. Most people make (or most tutorials teach how to make) 4- or 8-point options. In nature, snowflakes always have 6 vertices (in extreme cases, three). I decided to be closer to nature, and chose the option with 6 ends. I myself learned this technique at school, and every year before the New Year I make a lot of snowflakes.
All you need for this project is paper and scissors. Some people use some kind of colored, fancy paper, but I cut out pure white snowflakes - it's easier and more natural.

Stage 1: Starting with a square

Start simply with a square white sheet. I usually make two snowflakes from each A4 sheet, so first I cut it in half, then I cut a square out of each half. The size of the snowflakes is about 10 cm. If you are just learning, it is easier to start with a larger size of snowflakes, cutting out one from a whole sheet of A4.

Making a square out of a rectangle is very easy. Lay the sheet in front of you and attach one of the upper corners of the sheet to the opposite side so that an isosceles triangle is formed (such as you see in the photo). The extra piece of the sheet just needs to be cut off evenly.

Step 2: Fold in half

Fold the square diagonally to form a triangle.

Stage 3: Cut in half again

Fold the resulting triangle in half again to make a smaller triangle.

Step 4: Triple fold

Imagine a triangle divided into three equal parts, and fold it in three. If you like to be precise, you can use a protractor, each third equals a 30 degree angle.

Step 5: Fold Again

Bend and fold the left third. Try to keep the folds clear and all thirds are equal. This will make the snowflake as symmetrical as possible.

Step 6: Cut off the top

Cut off the top edge of the paper at an angle. Make sure you cut off all layers of the folded paper so that the cut is the same on all sides of the snowflake. The corner cut forms the tops of the snowflake. Over time, you will learn to cut at different angles to make more or less sharp peaks.

And this is where your imagination comes into play. Start cutting off different shapes on the sides of the folded paper. Smaller triangles are easiest to cut out, but don't forget to experiment with different shapes.
For this snowflake, I slightly changed the top edge so that my tops are of a different shape. I also cut out a couple of "thorns" inside. Use your imagination to decorate!
I don't use any stencils for my snowflakes, I just cut and design as I go. I never get two of the same. Sometimes I find some elements that I like and use them in several snowflakes, but I have never completely copied the ornament.

Stage 8: Reversal

Once the cut is complete, carefully unfold the snowflake.
At first the snowflake will not be even and flat, so I usually put the snowflake between the pages of the book for a while to make it even. I also ironed them (between two sheets of paper) to make them perfectly smooth. In this case, be careful as the paper can become very hot (never use a steamer!). Therefore, before taking a snowflake in your hands, let it cool down. And of course, remember the flammability of paper.
Ironing will make the snowflake a little stiffer, which is great if you plan on hanging it up rather than gluing it to some surface.

Stage 9: Inspiration

Materials:

Use sharp scissors and keep your hands clean. Dirty hands will leave marks on the snowflakes, which is not very festive!
Some people recommend using nail scissors, they are easier to cut intricate patterns. I don't like it for two reasons. Firstly, nail scissors are uncomfortable to hold in your hand. And is it important. Secondly, you can go too far with the ornateness of the pattern, too many tiny cuts and insufficient cutting along the contours can turn a snowflake into a lacy doily. The look and feel is lost.
Snowflake carving experts recommend using tracing paper and an X-acto knife for finer ornaments and more perfect symmetry. But I still prefer plain paper and scissors - they are in every home and are safe for children, you can cut snowflakes together.
Some people cut out snowflakes from wrapping paper or other colorful paper. You can use any material to create the desired effect. Clean, white paper is closer to my soul simply because I wildly like to create beauty from something simple and ordinary.

Cutting process:

I usually make my snowflakes while I sit on a couch or chair with a coffee table in front of me, holding a small trash can at my feet. On the table it is convenient for me to fold the paper, and then I sit comfortably and cut out the ornament, throwing the scraps into the urn. So I don't litter around me in the process.
When folding paper, steps 4-5 are the most difficult, especially dividing the triangle into three equal parts “by eye”. When you fold the second side part, it often turns out that it is not equal to the other two. Then you have to unfold and bend the parts over again, and so on until you get three equal parts. The more identical parts you get, the more symmetrical the snowflake will be in the turn. Given the thickness of the paper and the number of folds, getting a perfectly symmetrical snowflake is next to impossible. The biggest asymmetry will be in the center: look at my snowflakes. The asterisk in the center of some of them is not perfect. Real snowflakes also have defects, so don't worry too much about it.
Avoid what I call "voids". This is when you cut out the snowflake in step 7, and leave a large space of paper without any cuts. Any place on a snowflake more than half a centimeter can be decorated, for example, with the same “thorns” that I cut out in my snowflake. Otherwise, when you unroll the snowflake, you end up with a rough ornament instead of a patterned, detailed snowflake. Too flickering in the pattern is also not worth it, it is better to use small and large details together.

Snowflake decoration:

Stick a small piece of double-sided sticky tape on each top of the snowflake and stick it on the surface to be decorated. I like to hang them on windows so they can be seen both from inside and outside. At night they look beautiful in the dark.
You can also hang snowflakes from the ceiling, but be careful as they are quite fragile. For such purposes, it will be better to cut out snowflakes with thicker outlines and not too detailed ornamentation (think of a snowflake with a wide “skeleton” and small details around the main lines). White thread or fishing line is suitable for hanging.
Snowflakes can be beautifully decorated with New Year's gifts instead of bows. I like to just stick one snowflake on the gift box and a card with the recipient's name on top of the snowflake. A lacy snowflake creates a beautiful backdrop for a signature.
Don't throw away the A4 cutoffs after cutting out the squares. Use this paper to cut out small snowflakes that hang beautifully between larger ones. This will create a beautiful scattering effect and fill in the space between large snowflakes. Unfortunately, this idea came to me after I took the photos below.

Step 10: Analyze it

If you want to try to copy the snowflakes you saw somewhere, then you need to understand the idea of \u200b\u200bhow you can repeat someone else's drawing. Looking at the finished snowflake, try to visualize a repeating fragment of the ornament. This snowflake contains 12 identical pieces. This will be the fragment between the two lines. One line bisects the top, going from the center. And the second line runs between the two vertices in the middle. You can imagine a snowflake as a clock, and the lines we need are between 12 and 13 o'clock. See the markings in the photo.
This fragment shows which cuts need to be made on both sides in order to end up with the same snowflake. If you look at a dark background, then all the dark fragments are what you need to cut out.

From time to time I try to copy real snowflakes that I find in a book or on the Internet. Of course, it is impossible to completely recreate a snow crystal, since a snowflake has a very complex structure, and it is a three-dimensional figure, not a flat one. Snowflakes are often multi-layered, and we are dealing with just one piece of paper ... However, you can try to get as close as possible to the shape of a real snowflake.
Real snowflakes have a lot of "gaps" in patterns that don't look good when transferred to paper. I flipped through the whole book of snowflake photographs, and there were very few copies that looked like simple hexagons with simple details. If your chosen snowflake has too much “free space”, use it anyway in the paper copy, complicating the pattern. Since this is not an exact copy, you can improve it without any problems!
Use the technique described in step 10. Imagine that the snowflake is a cake and the repeating pattern is a piece of cake. Or think of the snowflake as the face of a clock.

How to make a voluminous paper snowflake with your own hands - photo in stages:

On the sheet we mark six squares with a side of 9.5 cm. This size is taken so that all the squares fit on one sheet. If desired, the squares can be made larger or smaller (accordingly, the size of the snowflake will be larger or smaller).

Cut out the squares, these are the blanks of the future snowflake.

Fold the square diagonally.

We start making cuts on one side.

We make cuts at a distance of about 1-1.5 cm. It is important not to reach the fold line. In our case, there were 6 cuts.

Expand the square.

Now let's start creating the blank. To do this, take the two lower strips and glue them together.

After that, turn the workpiece over to the other side and glue the following strips.

Thus, using glue, we connect all the strips of the square.

Repeat these steps for the remaining five squares. As a result, we get six snowflake blanks.

Now you need to connect them together. We apply a drop of glue to the base of the workpiece and connect it to another. So we glue three elements.

We connect the remaining three blanks in the same way.

The resulting two elements (each consists of three blanks) are glued together.

Now you know how to make a do-it-yourself paper snowflake. According to this master class, you can make snowflakes from paper of any color.

Such a voluminous snowflake will become a decoration for the New Year, which can be made with children.
