How to make balls from threads with your own hands. How to make beautiful balls of thread for decorating the interior. Christmas balls of thread: foam ball with jute rope

A decorated balloon is an inexpensive but beautiful way to decorate your home for the holidays. To make crafts from threads and PVA glue, you need to prepare the necessary materials in advance.

To make a thread ball, you will need the following materials:

  • PVA glue. The most important thing is not to dilute the glue with water. It must be in a clean consistency.
  • Any thread. You can use several threads of different colors. It is better to use Iris threads for this, as they have subtle and rich colors, and are quite durable. But you can use any woolen thread.
  • Big needle.
  • Balloon. It is better to take large balls, as they are more durable.

How to make a ball of thread and glue, if there is no experience, is given below. You just need to follow the instructions.

Step-by-step instruction

First you need to cover the table or any surface on which the craft will be made with oilcloth or paper so as not to get it dirty with glue. After that, you can get to work.

Procedure:

  1. First, the balloon is inflated to the size that will correspond to the balloon being made.
  2. After that, the thread is threaded into the needle.
  3. Glue can be poured into a container (plastic cup, Kinder Surprise egg, etc.).
  4. Next, you need to pierce this container through and through with a needle and pull the thread through the glue.
  5. The needle can now be removed and set aside as it will no longer be needed.
  6. After that, the thread, impregnated with glue, is wound around an inflated ball.

The more turns around the ball you get, the more voluminous the craft will be. But it is desirable to leave small holes so that the ball is not solid.

How to make a ball of thread and glue: step by step instructions
  1. Now the finished ball must be left in any dry place so that the threads dry completely. For this, a place on the battery or on the windowsill is suitable. Before putting the balls, you must first cover the surface so as not to stain it with glue.

The most important thing in making a craft, so as not to spoil it, is not to check or crush the ball until it is completely dry.

  1. After the ball dries, you need to carefully separate it from the threads. This can be done by using a sharp object, but not so sharp that the ball will burst. The main task is to separate the inflated balloon from the threads. As soon as it is completely separated from the threads, you can take a needle or any sharp object and burst the ball.

Thread balls can be supplemented with various decorations:

  • pasting with rhinestones;
  • beading,
  • painting with any paint.

The appearance of the ball depends entirely on the color and type of thread, as well as the number of turns.

Various crafts from thread balls

A ball of thread is versatile, as many other figured fakes can be made from it. For this, an additional tool is used (scissors, stationery knife). In addition to a solid ball, you can wind the half shafts, which will later serve as elements of the craft.

Snowman from a thread ball

To make a snowman from a filament ball, you will need materials such as:

  • white wool thread;
  • needle;
  • PVA glue;
  • balloons;
  • red fleece fabric
  • plasticine;
  • beads (for the eyes of a snowman).

Before starting work, you need to prepare the surface by covering it with a film and removing excess:

  • First, a thread is threaded through a needle, a hole is made in a jar of glue with a needle, then balloons are inflated. The first ball is the largest, the second is smaller and 2 balls are very small - these will be the snowman's hands.
  • The ball is wrapped with a thread pre-impregnated with PVA glue.
  • After that, the thread is cut and fixed. It will take 6-8 hours for complete drying.

  • When the threads on the ball are dry, they must be carefully separated from the ball with a non-sharp object.
  • Next, take a glue gun and glue all the balls together. Top with bottom and handles on the sides.
  • A scarf for a snowman can be made from red fleece. To do this, a piece of fleece is cut off in a rectangular shape and a scarf is wrapped around the snowman.
  • In place of the eyes of the snowman, 2 black beads are glued with a glue gun.
  • The nose and mouth of a snowman are molded from plasticine.
  • On the large lower ball, beads are also glued in place of the buttons with a glue gun.
  • A triangular cap is sewn on the snowman's head from fleece fabric.

Christmas balls from threads

How to make a ball of thread and glue for making Christmas balls is discussed below.

From the threads you will need the following materials:

  • threads of different colors, threads can be used any (thin, woolen);
  • balloons;
  • PVA glue;
  • colored satin ribbons;
  • glue gun;
  • needle.

A ball in a ball is made in several stages.

Christmas balls made of thread and glue are decorated with sparkles, sequins, etc.

In total, you need to complete 7 steps:

  1. To begin with, the balls are inflated to the size that is needed for decorating the Christmas tree.
  2. A needle is taken and a thread is threaded into it, then a jar of PVA glue is taken and the jar is pierced with a needle and thread.
  3. Next, the balls are wrapped. You need to wrap them until they become dense, since it depends on how strong the toy will be.

Thus, as many balls are wound as required. They are made in different colors or one tone. After all the balls are wound, you need to let them dry for 6-8 hours in any warm place. You need to wait until completely dry.

  1. When the threads are completely dry, the ball is pierced and carefully removed from the resulting thread ball. However, before that, it is very important to separate the ball from the threads, otherwise, if it bursts without separating it, the structure may be broken and damaged. Further, the same is done with all the balls.
  2. Then, satin ribbons prepared in advance are taken, from which the desired length is cut off and a bow is tied.
  3. Using a glue gun, glue the bow to the ball. Bows can also be made from any ribbons, different colors and materials. It is possible to decorate each ball additionally with rhinestones, beads and various other decorative elements.
  4. The final step is to thread the ball through the ball in order to hang it on the Christmas tree.

Surprise ball

Surprise ball is used as a gift for friends and relatives. The design of the craft itself has a creative appearance and can give a lot of positive emotions.

You can hide sweets, toys, etc. in a ball of threads - you get a ball with a surprise

To make a surprise balloon from threads, you will need the following materials:

  • any threads available at home;
  • PVA glue;

  • balloons;
  • small children's toys, bells.

Having on hand all the necessary ingredients for a surprise ball, you can start making:

  1. First of all, a toy, bells or any other object is taken that should be placed in a surprise ball. Only then can it be inflated.
  2. The thread is threaded into the needle.
  3. Then a vessel is pierced with a needle, into which PVA glue was previously poured.
  4. After that, the balloon is wrapped with thread.
  5. After the ball has been wrapped, you need to leave it to dry completely. After about 6-8 hours, it is checked whether the threads have dried or not.
  6. After making sure that the threads are well dried out, you need to separate the ball from the threads, and then the ball is already pierced and carefully removed. Everything that was in the balloon will remain in the balloon. Thus, a surprise ball is obtained. It can be decorated by gluing beads, rhinestones, banas and so on with a glue gun.

Wedding balloons

Balls of thread and glue can serve as excellent decorations for decorating a ceremonial hall or an outdoor wedding ceremony.

To make decorations such as thread balls, you will need the following materials:

  • threads (you need to choose such threads that are needed in color, in structure for decoration);
  • PVA glue;
  • needle;
  • beads, rhinestones;
  • glue gun.

Having collected all the material, you can get to work:

  1. The balloon is inflated to the appropriate size.
  2. The thread is threaded into the needle.
  3. A jar of PVA glue is pierced with a needle and winding around the balloon begins. You can wind it in random directions. The strength of the thread ball will depend on how often it will be wrapped with threads. In this way, all the balls are wrapped.
  4. Then they are put in a dry place so that they dry completely. This usually takes 6-8 hours. It may take longer if you get a tight ball using a large amount of PVA glue.
  5. Only after the balloon is completely dry, you can pierce the balloon, without forgetting to first separate it from the threads.
  6. A punctured ball is taken from the thread ball.
  7. To decorate balloons for a wedding, you can also use all kinds of decorations as decor, sequins, ribbons, rhinestones, beads. It all depends on the theme and the interior in which the celebration will be like.

Ball in a ball of thread

To make a thread ball in a ball, you will need the following materials:

  • inflatable balls (they can be any);
  • threads for winding balloons (threads of different density, different colors);
  • PVA glue;
  • needle.

To make a ball in a ball, you will need threads of different colors.

Once everything is ready, you can get to work:

  1. The first step is to inflate the balloon.
  2. Then a thread is threaded into the needle.
  3. A jar of glue is pierced and an inflatable ball is wrapped around. Only one half of the ball is wrapped, not the whole. This will be required in order to later place another smaller thread ball inside the thread ball.
  4. After one half of the ball has been wrapped with threads, you need to let this ball dry, leaving it for about 6-8 hours in a warm place.
  5. The same 1 more ball is made. As a result, you get 2 balls half wrapped in threads. Outwardly, they will resemble saucers made of thread. In the meantime, you can start preparing the ball that will be inside.
  6. A ball is taken and inflated about 2 times less than the previous one.
  7. This ball is wrapped completely. You can use threads of a different color or structure for greater effect.
  8. After the ball is wrapped, you also need to set it aside for 6-8 hours to dry.
  9. Only after both balls are completely dry, they are separated from the threads with a non-sharp object. Next, they need to be pierced and removed from the thread balls.
  10. The ball that is completely wrapped is placed in one of the half-wrapped balls and closed with the second half. Thus, you get a ball in a ball.
  11. Now you need to fasten the seam that connects the 2 halves of the ball.
  12. For this, a thread is threaded into a needle.
  13. It is necessary to pierce the jar of glue again and begin to gently wrap the ball in a circle, securing the seam.
  14. Then let the ball dry completely.

Topiary

Topiary is one of those options that is easy and cheap to make, and its originality and unusual design will help decorate the room.

Easter Topiary with Thread and Glue Chicken
Topiary made of threads and glue will be a wonderful decoration for your interior

To make a topiary, you will need:

  • inflatable ball;
  • PVA glue;
  • woolen threads or thin rope, if the topiary will be the basis;
  • needle;
  • a plastic cup;
  • water;
  • scissors.

To make a topiary, first of all, you need to cover the work surface, otherwise the table may be stained with glue:

  1. A plastic cup is taken, a hole is made in it with a needle.
  2. A thread or rope is threaded through the holes formed.
  3. Then PVA glue and water are added to the glass.
  4. All components are mixed in a ratio of 3:1. If a rope will be used, then it is not necessary to mix the glue with water.
  5. The thread is pulled through the glass through the holes, smeared with glue and wound around the ball. It must first be wound widely, and then in those places where there is a void.
  6. The cut thread should be glued to the ball.
  7. Then the ball will dry for about 8 hours in a warm place.
  8. After this time, the balloon bursts inside and is carefully removed. But before doing this, it must be carefully separated from the threads. Otherwise, there is a risk of damage to the threads themselves.

The ball can be decorated with various multi-colored ribbons. Some needlewomen decorate their topiary with lights. Among the options, there is one when several small balls are made at once and connected to each other.

Flowers

How to make a ball of thread and glue, beginners in this business may ask this question. Flowers are one of the most popular options for various crafts. But before you learn how to make flowers, you need to make balloons.

In order to make a flower from thread balls, you will need the following components:

  • white and green threads;
  • white openwork braid;
  • thin dark green braid;
  • fingertips;
  • silicate glue and PVA;
  • brush for glue;
  • scissors;
  • wire;
  • glue gun.

Having brought together all the materials, it is necessary to prepare a table for work. You can cover it with newspapers, and then start laying out all the prepared items.

Procedure:

  • First of all, the fingertips are inflated to the desired size.
  • Then the thread is threaded into the needle.
  • After that, a jar of silicate glue is pierced through with the same needle and a thread is threaded through.
  • After these manipulations, the needle can be removed, since it will already interfere with the thread.
  • Next, a thread in an adhesive solution is wound around the inflated fingertip, after which the finished balls must be left to dry completely.
  • After drying, you need to take a small and not sharp object and carefully separate the ball from the threads. If this is not done, then during the explosion it can bend the craft itself.
  • In the meantime, the green thread is wetted in glue and laid out on an oilcloth, covered with another oilcloth on top and something heavy is placed on top for pressing.
  • In dried balls, you can begin to cut the petals. The most convenient option is 5 petals per flower. They also need to be bent in the opposite direction after they are cut off.

  • In order to make them even more beautiful, you need to take a lace braid and glue it to the flower.
  • Leaves are cut out of pressed green threads, which are attached to the cups of white flowers.
  • A piece of wire will serve as a stem. It must be hidden by wrapping it with a green ribbon.
  • Finally, the stem is glued to the flower with a glue gun.

Birds and animals

How to make a ball of thread and glue, so that later, in the future, some kind of animal will turn out from this blank? You need to learn how to make the ball yourself. No special skills are required for this.

To make balls, you will need the following items:

  • PVA glue;
  • capacity;
  • needle;
  • thread or rope;
  • Balloon.

For example, you can consider the option of making a bear from thread balls.

For him, you will additionally need:

  • false eyes;
  • black paper.

Craft process:

  1. Initially, you need to make holes in the container with a needle, then thread the thread through the holes.
  2. Next, PVA glue is poured into the tank, which will impregnate the thread. After that, the needle can be removed.
  3. To make a bear, you will need a total of 9 balls. The first balloon must be inflated with the largest one, as this will be the body of the bear. The second smaller ball is the head. 4 balls are even smaller in size for the paws. 3 very small for the ears and nose.
  4. After all the balloons are inflated, they need to be wrapped with thread and allowed to dry. The 3 smallest balls need to be wrapped only halfway, that is, the second part of the ball should remain clean, without threads.
  5. To work comfortably in the future, it is advisable to give them a day to dry.
  6. To get an inflated balloon, it must first be disconnected from the threads, and then burst.
  7. The paw pads, nose and mouth of the bear are cut out of black paper. The paws are glued to 4 medium balls, and the nose and mouth to one of the small ones. The eyes are glued to the head.
  8. All the balls are glued together, forming the shape of a bear.

To make a bird, you should take 5 balls. One large one will be the body, 3 small ones will be the neck and 1 larger one will be the head.

In addition to the necessary set for thread balls, the bird will also need the following:

  • wire;
  • colored paper.

Progress:

  1. In order to wrap inflated balls, you need to make a hole in a plastic cup and thread a thread into it, after which glue is poured into it.
  2. Then all 5 balls are wrapped with threads.
  3. After 6-8 hours, they are released from the balloons by piercing.
  4. The paws will be made of wire, which must be wrapped in brown colored paper.
  5. Also, 2 black wings, eyes, 2 orange paws, a beak and eyelashes are cut out of paper.
  6. After that, all 5 balls are fastened together and paws are attached to the body.

A bowl

Before starting work, cover the work surface with oilcloth or paper.

In order to make a vase or a bowl of thread balls, you will need the following materials:

  • thin rope;
  • food film;
  • PVA glue;
  • scissors;
  • a bowl or vase that does not have high sides.

After all the materials are ready, you can get to work:

  1. First of all, you need to cut the rope. Its length should be equal to 3 circles of the selected dishes.
  2. Next, you need to pour the glue into the container and place the rope for impregnation there.
  3. Wrap the bowl or vase with cling film. And this must be done carefully so that there is no excess left. If these still remain, then they are removed inside the bowl.
  4. After that, the dishes should be turned upside down.
  5. The pieces of rope impregnated with glue must be laid in an indefinite order.
  6. After a day, the bowl can be removed and the cling film removed. Thus, a bowl of rope was obtained.

In a similar way, you can make other dishes. It is not recommended to put a lot of fruits or other heavy objects in such a bowl, as the dishes are too fragile. If the bowl is filled with something, then in order to avoid damage to it, it is better to take it from the side or under the bottom.

From thread balls and glue, you can make many different crafts: dolls, paintings, decorations for lamps. Product diagrams are publicly available on the Internet. The main advantages of this decor are low cost, creative appearance and ease of manufacture.

Content

What can strings be used for? The answer, it would seem, is very simple - for sewing, embroidery, darning or knitting. And who would have guessed that original decorations for the interior and toys could be made from threads? However, if you approach the matter with imagination, then the home master can handle everything!

Before you start creating, you need to consider that there are two important principles for working with threads when making toys from them.

The first rule says that to create volume from threads, you will have to use some kind of base, for example, a balloon, a cork or a wire frame. On the basis of the desired shape, certain threads or twine are wound, and so the future object takes on the required shape. After drying, the toy can be decorated as you wish.

The second rule is a little easier. When creating thread toys, fluffy pompoms are indispensable. They are also used as a basis for a toy, when pompoms are glued together to create the desired shape and volume, and can also be used for decoration, for example, to imitate hair or fur on a toy.

Further, from intelligible master classes, you can learn simple, but very effective ideas for creating toys from threads using different frames. One has only to try, and a new hobby will surely captivate both parents and children.

DIY balls of thread

For the first time, descriptions of such Christmas decorations appeared in the difficult 90s, when it was not always possible to find spectacular decorations in the store. Then the balls were forgotten, and today such handmade toys are back in fashion. At the same time, the use of balls has expanded, which today are used not only as New Year's decorations. There are very interesting ideas for more complex toys and even interior items made from air structures obtained by winding threads around a balloon.

Materials and tools

  • Threads
  • PVA glue;
  • Non-greasy cream, for example, massage or hand;
  • Scissors;
  • Balloons of various shapes;
  • Darning needle;
  • Some cotton wool or cosmetic cotton pads;
  • Brush.

Manufacturing procedure

To make a Christmas tree decoration, the balloon is inflated until the diameter is approximately 10 cm and tied tightly so that no air escapes.

Using a cotton swab, the cream is carefully applied to the entire surface of the ball, making sure that it covers the form with an even layer. This technique will subsequently allow you to quickly remove the form from the thread ball without problems with peeling off. This is especially important if a thread with a pronounced hairiness is chosen for the toy, from which it is not always easy to separate the balloon.

The thread from which the toy is to be created is pre-impregnated with glue. It is better to do this when the threads are wound into a loose ball, which can be completely immersed for some time in a container with an adhesive. You can not soak all the threads at once, but do it gradually when making jewelry. To do this, two through holes are made in a container with glue, through which a darning needle is passed with a thread threaded into it. Passing through the glue inside the vessel, the thread will be impregnated, which means it will be prepared for winding.

Now you can remove the needle from the thread and proceed to the main stage. You can start wrapping the ball from anywhere, but it is more convenient to fix the tip of the thread on the tail of the ball so that it does not slip off and you would not have to start all over again. The thread should be wound in chaotic circles, while making sure that one turn intercepts the previous layers.

At this stage, the help of a second person may be required to hold the glue and help the thread to be pulled evenly. A child can easily cope with this activity, the main thing is that at the same time parents worry about the apron for the baby, which can get dirty when working with glue.

The density with which the thread is wound is determined by the master himself and the purpose of the future ball. However, if you want to make the ball as openwork as possible, you should not lay the thread too rarely, because this will affect the strength of the structure. Frequent winding provides a dense filament cocoon.

When the required amount of thread is reached, you need to generously lubricate the end of the thread with adhesives and hide it under the wound layer. After that, it is checked whether the adhesive layer is sufficient everywhere, and additionally smeared with glue with a brush.

When the work is completed, the ball can be hung to dry, and so that the process goes evenly and the balloon does not release air, it is better to dry the toy away from heaters. On average, it takes about a day to dry, but when the workpiece finally hardens, you can get a balloon out of it. To do this, they either pierce it, so that they can then get it through the holes in the threads, or, having untied it, gently release the air.

Decorating a ball of thread

An original Christmas tree toy can come out of such a blank. To do this, you need to either cover the ball with a layer of glitter, putting it on a small layer of glue, or decorate it with thematic applications, sequins or beads. You can apply drawings to the balls using a stencil or cover the future toy with an aerosol red or decorative, for example, gold, varnish.

There are countless decor options, and using different techniques, you can make decorations in the same style for the entire Christmas tree, while one toy will differ from the other, creating a unique New Year's interior decor.

If you carefully cut through the ball with a clerical knife, then you can turn the blanks into amazingly openwork airy flowers, as if they came out of a fairy tale. To do this, without deforming the thread ball, it is cut, as shown in the illustration, and one petal after another is carefully bent one by one. Such buds can become spectacular lilies of the valley, lilies or tulips - it all depends on the imagination and desire of the craftswoman!

If you dream up a little more and, for example, attach fins and an elegant tail made of gold paper with transparent instant glue to a spherical blank, then the magic Goldfish will visit the house.

To freshen up a familiar interior or decorate a house for the holidays, it is not necessary to make expensive purchases. Gossamer balls always look impressive as pendants, craft items, Christmas toys, vases and even chandeliers. Let's consider a simple way how you can make a ball out of thread and glue with your own hands.

The essence of making a gossamer craft lies in the technique of wrapping a ball shape with threads impregnated with an adhesive composition. The glue dries, the base is removed - the decoration is ready. Then the ball can be cut or decorated, combined into groups to create a composition, etc.

A few secrets to successfully making gossamer balls

In order to make a ball of thread, first of all, you need to choose the right materials: yarn, glue, shape, glue container, brush, and prepare the workplace.

There are a few simple rules to keep in mind:

  1. The thinner the threads (for example, sewing), the faster and more likely the finished product is deformed. To avoid this, they should only be used for small balls (less than 8 cm in diameter). For larger crafts, thicker threads (mulina, yarn, twine, etc.) are needed, as they hold their shape better.
  2. Nevertheless, if you have to make a three-dimensional decoration from thin threads, you should apply them quite tightly and, in addition to glue, fix them additionally (for example, with hairspray or transparent construction varnish).
  3. To make a gossamer ball, you need liquid glue. Suitable silicate and PVA. (sold in tubes) is more liquid, building (in cans) is thicker and therefore “holds stronger”. Secondary glue, like hot glue, is not good at all.
  4. Dip the threads before serving on the form should be entirely. This can be done in two ways. In the first case, the thread will be dipped into the glue poured into an open container. In the second - go through the jar of glue, through the opposite holes at its bottom. The “correct” holes in the tube are slightly larger than the thickness of the thread (it is well wetted with glue), but the contents of the container do not leak onto the desktop.
  5. No need to insert candles inside crafts or install in a room with high humidity. In the first case, the ball can easily catch fire, in the second case, it can lose its shape and “go soft”. In order not to abandon the idea of installing lighting inside the ball, we advise you to choose LED bulbs based on batteries.

Detailed instructions for making balls of thread

Consider the whole process step by step. It is simple, and it can take only 15-20 minutes to get the first blank.

Step 1. Let's choose a base. To do this, they most often use balloons of different diameters or fingertips (sold in pharmacies) - for small crafts. They are good because at the end of the work they are easy to take out: pierce them and, after the air has escaped, get them through the gap without damaging the shape of the threads.

Harder bases: rubber balls and foam balls (used most often for topiary), are perfectly rounded than inflatable forms. But at the same time, they are more difficult to extract at the final stage.

Step 2 Let's prepare the form. The base, which will be tied with threads, should easily lag behind the adhesive layer of the product after drying. To do this, the entire form should be coated with petroleum jelly or oil (from a pharmacy), or liquid silicone (inexpensive, in small jars or in the form of a spray, which is much more expensive, can be purchased at sports equipment stores or auto cosmetics). It is better to remove excess lubricant with a napkin so that the yarn does not slip off the surface during operation.

Step 3 We wrap the base. Threads well moistened in glue are placed randomly on the ball. It is advisable to do this so that the threads do not intersect in one place more than 2 times. You should not stretch the winding too much (especially on an inflatable base), but nothing should sag either. In places where there is not enough glue, you need to additionally apply it with a brush.

Step 4 Drying. At this stage of work, you need to let the whole craft dry. To do this, it is desirable to hang it in a dry and warm place so that it does not touch any surface (it will not stick). Depending on the size, thickness of the winding and humidity, the product can dry up to two days. To get the finished result much faster, it is permissible to use a hair dryer.

Step 5 We take out the base. After the ball is completely dry, you need to remove it from its original shape. If it is a balloon, then it is usually pierced and taken out through any suitable hole.

Step 6 We decorate. Any fairly light materials are suitable for decorating gossamer balls. These can be applications or inscriptions made of paper, beads, rhinestones, sequins, ribbons, etc. Balls collected in a group look spectacular. For example, for a New Year's wreath or garland.

The filling in balls will look beautiful: large beads, tinsel, serpentine, foil, confetti, etc. If necessary, the product can be painted. Aerosol paints are best for changing colors. With their help, it is easy to get shiny or matte gold and silver balls.

Advice! Hot glue is best for attaching jewelry: it is transparent, quickly hardens and gives a very strong connection.

Some interesting options for crafts from spider webs

A fairly dense ball of thread and glue can be used for topiary or other types of crafts. The main thing is that the fragile base can withstand additional decorative elements. Consider the technique of performing some of them.

Snowman

You will need:

  • three different-sized balls of white (or blue) yarn,
  • eye buttons,
  • orange paper nose cone
  • branches for hands
  • round pieces of cotton for legs,

To assemble a pyramid of balls - a blank for a future toy - you need to lightly press on a larger ball from both sides to make neat dents. Glue a medium-sized ball to one of them, and place the other on the work surface. The third part (head) is also attached.

All remaining parts are glued to the finished base. At the end, you can tie a bright yarn scarf.

Advice! To make even dents on the ball, lightly moisten this place with a wet brush.

Topiary - "tree of happiness"

For its manufacture you need:

  • one ball ("crown" of the tree),
  • a small pot with filler (pebbles, coffee beans, beads, etc.) to “plant” our “plant”,
  • wooden or wire stick for the "trunk",
  • glue,
  • ornaments ("leaves" and "flowers").

Making a topiary is not so difficult: just assemble the frame (attach the ball to the stick), place the “trunk” in the pot, fill it with filler and decorate.

Most often, crepe paper flowers, satin ribbon bows, coffee beans, beads, strips of quilling paper and much more are used for the “crown”. All this is attached to hot glue with a gun.

Flowers

Making them is very easy. All that is needed is to cut the petals around the diameter of the ball with cloves. From one ball, 2 identical blanks are obtained. Flowers can be decorated with beads, beads, "stamens" made of wire, etc.

Birds, animals

Since these crafts are very simple, they are great for competitions in kindergarten or for decorating a Christmas tree. For their manufacture, paper blanks of “wings”, “paws”, “tails”, “tufts”, etc. are needed, which are glued to the “trunk” - a ball of thread.

Vase or bowl

To get a vase or a deep plate from a gossamer ball, you need to carefully cut it in half. For the bottom, you need to slightly moisten the bottom and press it inward. When the product dries again, it will retain the desired shape.

To make the hemisphere of threads stronger, it is recommended to coat it on both sides with a colorless varnish. True, it will be possible to use such an item only for decorative purposes: it will not withstand moisture and a significant load. But at the same time it will become a highlight of any interior.

Thread balls are an original home decoration that is easy to make with your own hands. Its production does not require large expenses, and the result allows you to feel like a real designer. Thanks to the simplicity and fascination of the process, making balls will appeal not only to adults, but also to children.

Important Rules

Before starting work, you need to familiarize yourself with the important principles of making crafts. Firstly, in order to create a voluminous toy, you will need a base on which threads should be wound. A balloon or a wire frame is perfect for this.

Secondly, to make a beautiful toy, you need fluffy pompoms. By gluing them together, it is easy to create the desired shape and volume. Pompoms can also be used to make ponytails or the fur of animal toys.

Tools and materials

Do-it-yourself balls of thread began to be made in the 90s, when it was difficult to find beautiful Christmas decorations for sale. By the end of the 20th century, the invention was forgotten, but now the original thread crafts are back in fashion.

To make them you need:

  • threads;
  • needle;
  • several balloons of different sizes and shapes;
  • 1-2 tubes of PVA glue;
  • scissors;
  • tassel;
  • several cotton pads;
  • light hand cream

Operating procedure

The following instruction will explain in detail how to make balls of thread with your own hands. Ready-made crafts can be used as an apartment decoration or New Year's decor. If you have any questions, you can always watch the tutorial video to get a clearer idea of the manufacturing process.

  1. Inflate the balloon so that its diameter is about 10 cm. Tie it tightly at the base.
  2. Using a cotton pad, cover the entire surface of the ball with cream. Thanks to this technique, in the future you can easily remove the base from the finished craft.
  3. Soak the thread with PVA glue. To do this, unwind the ball, and then loosely wind the threads again. Dip the whole skein into a container of glue. You can also do this: pierce 2 holes in a tube of PVA glue and pass the thread through the needle through them as the toy is made. Remove excess glue drops with a napkin.
  4. Start winding the ball by securing the thread at its base. Make sure that each subsequent turn overlaps the previous one. You may need an assistant here, for example, a child.
  5. After you have wrapped the entire ball, cover the end of the thread with a thick layer of PVA glue and hide it under the winding. Rate the work. If somewhere the threads do not fit tightly, you will need an additional layer of glue.
  6. Ready-made balls of thread should be hung to dry. This usually takes at least 20 hours. You should not place the craft near heating devices to speed up the process: the balloon may deflate.
  7. From the hardened workpiece, you can remove the base. To do this, pierce the balloon with a needle and carefully pull it out through the holes in the threads.

How to arrange balloons

The resulting blank can be decorated in different ways. To make the ball become a toy or a decorative ornament, you will need to show imagination. Children can be involved in decorating crafts.

Master class on making a Christmas tree toy: cover the ball with a small layer of glue, and then a layer of glitter (reflective particles used in needlework). You can decorate the workpiece with sequins, beads, appliqués, or apply any image to it using a stencil. New Year's balls of thread, covered with decorative varnish or spray paint in gold or silver, look gorgeous.

To make delicate openwork flowers out of a ball, carefully cut the blank with a knife, forming petals, bending them one by one. In this way, you can make spectacular tulips, lilies, lilies of the valley. If you have any difficulties in the process, see step-by-step photos of the process and a detailed master class.

With a little imagination, you can turn the balls into magical characters. Attach the tail and fins of gilded paper to the blank on a layer of glue, and you get a Goldfish. You can make more complex toys by painting the workpiece with acrylic paints and using various decor: colored paper, scraps of fabric, buttons, decorative pins.

When involving children in the creation of toys and decorations from balloons, be careful. These are very fragile crafts, so you should not give them to a child for games. However, you can decorate a children's room with finished products by making, for example, an openwork night light, an original garland or a pretty pendant on the ceiling. See the photo for other ideas for decorating a room with balls of thread.

Balls of thread beautiful, airy and will decorate any interior. Moreover, this method can be used to make almost any three-dimensional object, for example, a lampshade, vases, animal figurines, etc.

We'll need :

Balloon;

PVA glue;

Dense cotton threads;

food film;

Petrolatum;

A plastic cup.

To balls turned out to be even and dense, you need to be very careful about the quality of PVA glue and threads. I used this glue from Tury - PVA glue Profi - I advise. Do not take PVA glue from the stationery department. Many of them do not adhere well to paper.

Threads are needed so that their composition is mainly made of cotton. This is a more porous material and it is better impregnated with glue. In no case do not use fully synthetic threads, they will not be well saturated with glue, and your ball will be soft and do not hold its shape well.

I bought knitting threads "Peony" of the St. Petersburg factory named after. Kirov. Their composition: 70% - cotton, 30% - viscose. They are dense, but quite voluminous and take a lot of glue (this is good for keeping the shape). The second batch I had was from the floss of the same plant. balls from the threads "Peony" I liked more.

We take an ordinary rubber ball, inflate it to the size we need. I had a conveyor, so I immediately inflated 6-7 pieces. Pull off the pimpka well so that the ball does not deflate during drying, otherwise the whole structure will warp :)

Wrap the inflated ball in cling film. I left the tail open, so that later it would be more convenient to blow off the balls. Yes, I didn’t pierce them, but blew them off, because if you do everything carefully, then the rubber ball can serve us more than once or twice :)

Then we take Vaseline and spread the ball wrapped in cling film. This will prevent the threads from sticking to the ball and not damaging their shape. Yes, it’s vaseline in the photo :) I took pictures in the process, so my hands were dirty, the camera in my hands was shaking and jumping :)

Now the important point. How to prepare a thread for wrapping. So that the thread does not get tangled and is not too wet from the glue, it must be passed through a glass of glue. Creating the first ball of thread, I put the threads in a bowl of glue, that is, I simply dipped them there. The threads were too wet, constantly tangled and folded into knots. And, of course, everything around was in glue :) There was more glue on my hands than on threads :) So I took a plastic disposable cup, with an awl on both sides (closer to the bottom, but not quite low) made two holes and passed through them thread. Then I poured PVA glue to cover the thread. The photo shows how the thread passes through the glass. Such a system allows the thread not to get tangled, to absorb glue as much as necessary. The ball itself was placed in a large mug so that it does not jump around the table :)

I just dragged the thread through a glass of glue, gradually wrapping it around the ball.

Here is such a design. An important element is a good series or movie :)

The ball is wrapped. Wrap evenly without leaving large holes.

I hung all the blanks in the bathroom to dry. I dried all night, although you can remove it earlier - after 3-4 hours.

After the final drying, I blew off the rubber ball and pulled it out along with the film. These are the thread cocoons turned out.
