To make toys with your own hands, you should pay attention to the color of the fabrics. They should be bright and cheerful and pleasing to the eye, you can combine several shades. If you don’t have the right colors at home, you can dye the fabric yourself, for this you need to purchase special dyes.

Their choice should be taken seriously, because they will be in the hands of children and the dyes must be natural and not shed. It is necessary to cut the fabric very carefully and carefully, be sure to follow the same dimensions of the paired parts and the full correspondence of the sides.

Before you process a pattern on a sewing machine, you first need to process it with a buttonhole. If the fabric is loose, leave allowances for the seams. When the pattern is ready, you can fill it with various materials.

The most affordable and popular is the synthetic winterizer. Such toys can be washed in the machine, they dry very quickly and do not lose their shape. Toys can also be stuffed with sintepuh (these are soft small balls). It does not roll and also tolerates washing very well.

If you do not want to spend additional money on the purchase of fillers, you can use several options:

1. Remove such fillers from old blankets or pillows that you will no longer use.

2. Fill the toy with small pieces of soft fabrics available at home. Before you start sewing a toy, you need to know what will be needed to create it: - fabric of different strengths and colors;

Sintepon, cotton wool, foam rubber, and other substitutes;

Buttons and beads for eyes and nose;

Sewing tools;

Ruler, pencil and pattern paper.

For the right choice of fabric from which the toy will be sewn, you need to know their properties. For example, knitwear stretches well, you can sew any toy out of it. Cotton fabrics are also suitable for different types, but toys from them are more solid. Terry is perfect for toys where wool imitation is needed. A teddy bear, a bunny or a fox can be made from velor or wool velvet, such a fabric will do its job perfectly. Felted fabric is used to make creative and original toys. But still, it is more suitable for the manufacture of additional details, such as paws, ears, nose, and so on.

This popular soft toy in the form of a cute gray bear cub is unlikely to leave anyone indifferent. Everyone who once saw a Teddy Bear will certainly want such a cute plush pet to settle in his house. Many people know the rather high cost of such a toy, but this is not at all a reason to abandon the dream. We offer an alternative option - to sew a Teddy Bear with your own hands.

How to sew a teddy bear with your own hands?

In the master class, we will show how to sew a Teddy Bear with movable legs and head from plush fabric at home, without special fasteners and accessories. So, we need this:

  • gray plush fabric:
  • light brown or beige fleece;
  • black large beads and a patch of artificial light brown suede for the eye;
  • floss threads;
  • synthetic winterizer filler;
  • wooden spools of thread;
  • needle and thread.

Now we can start work.

DIY Teddy bears - master class

  1. First of all, we will build a Teddy Bear pattern, shown in detail in the figure.
  2. Now we cut out the blanks of the Teddy Bear from the fabric, noting the allowances for the seams.
  3. Before sewing, cut the pile from the seam allowances. This will make our work much easier. Let's start sewing our bear from the palms.
  4. Next, we sew the details of the handle, sew the palm to the handle, leaving a small hole for filling with padding polyester. Turn out to the front side.
  5. Now let's take care of the legs of our bear. We sew the details of the legs, leaving open the feet and a small hole on the toes for eversion and filling.
  6. Now we sew in the feet and turn the legs on the front side.
  7. Next, we sew the two halves of the tummy, leaving the neck opening. We do the same for the tail of the bear. We turn the parts of the toy on the front side.
  8. Then we will take care of the bear's head. We fold the two parts and sew the chin line.
  9. Now sew the ears to the head. Before that, we sew their details without filling them with padding polyester.
  10. We continue to sew the head according to the intended allowance.
  11. We turn the finished head on the front side.
  12. Now we fill all the details of our bear with synthetic winterizer. We pay special attention to the nose and legs so that the toy is stable.
  13. Then we will embroider the fingers on the legs and palms of the Teddy Bear with floss threads.
  14. We hide all the holes with a secret seam.
  15. And now let's deal with the face of the bear. First of all, we will embroider the spout and mouth with floss threads. Then sew on two black beads for eyes. From faux suede, cut out two small patches.
  16. Now gently lubricate the narrowed side of the eyelid with glue and, with the help of a toothpick, carefully tuck the shred behind the eye. Now the eyes have become more realistic, even as if alive.
  17. Next, we will engage in the articulation of the bear's head. Take a wooden spool and a small piece of plush fabric for this.
  18. We coat the coil with glue, glue it in a circle with a piece of cloth, for reliability we also hem it. It turned out a neck for a bear.
  19. Now, with the help of the neck, we connect the head with the body: we cover the holes with a strong thread in a circle, insert the hinge of the coil and tighten it tightly. For reliability, we fix the structure with threads.
  20. We have a turning head.
  21. Now let's move on to the legs. We fasten them with the help of the so-called rope connection: we take a thick and strong cord, thread it into one leg and the wrong side, that is, the side adjacent to the body, then we lead the rope through the body and hook the second leg. Then we also return to the first leg and tightly tie the rope into a knot.
  22. Let's check the bear for stability - he should be able to stand on his own.
  23. In the same way, we attach handles to the body.
  24. And lastly sew on the tail.
  25. Now we beautifully comb our finished Teddy Bear.
  26. And for beauty we will tie a bow around the neck. If desired, you can also dress the teddy bear, sewing him a shirt, trousers, etc.
  27. Here you can sew such a beautiful Teddy Bear with your own hands. It will definitely please you and your kids.

You have probably met small teddy bears more than once, with a sprout of up to 10 cm. How to sew such mini bears? Panekina Irina (tomar), a wonderful master-teddist, will tell us about this in detail.

So, let's begin...

1) We will need a material of no more than 25x25 cm for a bear up to 10 cm (everyone will choose for himself at will, whether it is faux fur, minishtoff, plush, etc., the main thing is that this material does not crumble), synthetic filler and metal granulate ( granulate can be replaced with coarse sand or fine glass granulate), 5 cotter pins, 5 mm discs, eyes, scissors, thin-nosed pliers, wooden stick (I use sushi sticks)

2) Pattern

We take our piece of material. Determine the direction of the pile (the pile should go down)

We fold our piece in half.

We sweep it, so that it would be more convenient to sew our parts.

Transferring the pattern to the fabric

We take the thread in the color of the fabric. We sew the parts back with a needle (see diagram). Leave unsewn places marked with color.

Now we cut out our parts, leaving about 2 mm for allowances.

Sew the sole into the foot.

We sew the details of the head.

Also, we need to sew tucks on the body of the teddy bear (thus we will create more rounded shapes)

Before unscrewing our parts, at the attachment points, we will thread an indicative thread. Since the bear is small, and it will be difficult for us to see the place where the paws are attached later, this thread will be a hint to us.
As for the ears, here I used a different fabric. To make our ears more funny.
We sew fur details with companion fabric.

We turn out our details. A sushi stick will help us very well in this)))) It has a blunt and thin end, which will help to turn out small parts without damaging them.

Now we need T-pins and discs.

I use two discs on each side. One is slightly smaller than the other.

We take our foot and together, for fastening with a neatly tapered awl, we increase the distance between the weaving of the threads so that our cotter pin can pass without damaging the fabric.
We insert our cotter pin through the inside.
It turns out the discs and the head of the cotter pin are inside our paws.

We begin to stuff the upper and lower legs.

We take a small piece of synthetic fluff and, helping ourselves with a stick, push it to the very end. Do not try to push a lot at once, thereby you will have voids and you will have to fill everything again. Tamp your sintepuh so that there are no voids.
When the leg is filled to the heel, add a little granulate.

Since the granulate is small and the part of the foot is also small, for the convenience of filling, I use a gravy boat with a thin tip.
We add granulate only to the lower limbs and body of the toy.
In the upper paws and head, we add only sintepuh.

We close the paws with a hidden seam.

We insert a cotter pin with disks into the head, tighten and sew up.

We sew the ears with a hidden seam and pull them together in the form of dumplings

We try on the location of the eyes with pins. From a different arrangement of the eyes, there will be a different expression of the muzzle of the bear.

Let's form our eye sockets with the help of a tightening.

The eye sockets are toned with a bed. This will add depth to our eyes.

We take an eye and a reinforced thread. We fix the thread on the loop of the eye.
Gently squeeze the eye loop. (be careful when squeezing, as the glass eyes can burst)

We make a hole in the eye sockets with an awl (not very large, but so that the eye ear enters there)
Insert eyes. We bring out the end of the threads in the neck area.

We tighten the eyes so that they go deep into the eye sockets. We fix the ends and hide inside the head.

Using pins, we look for the location of the ears.

We sew the ears with a hidden seam.
Now all our details need to be assembled.

We insert the paws and the head into the body, put the disks, and twist the ends of the cotter pins (two options for closing the ends of the cotter pin are shown in the diagram)

Now it remains to fill the body. First we lay down synthetic fluff, then a little granulate, and fill the rest of the space with synthetic fluff.

We close with a secret seam.

Our baby is ready. You can add brows if you like.

Any needlework is a very exciting and interesting process. It is amazing to watch how ordinary, unremarkable pieces of fabric turn out to be of amazing beauty and originality of the little animal.

From the hands of skilled craftswomen, very funny and cute hares, bears or elephants appear as if by magic. Such a miracle can not only be presented to a child as a toy, but also given to an adult as a pleasant souvenir. In this article we will tell you several ways to make a cute handmade bears.

So, in order to sew a bear, you need to take: black floss, short-haired fur or, if this is not in your home arsenal, plush white fabric, cardboard so that you can make a template and cotton fabric, it is better if it has a small flower pattern.

How to sew a bear

  • So, find or draw a suitable silhouette of your future toy. Copy the image onto cardboard, cut out a template from it, and then transfer the resulting silhouette to the fabric. Two pieces of fabric should be folded together, right side inward. Then, along the line that you outlined in advance, lay a line, while leaving a small hole with a diameter of about 3-4 millimeters.
  • The ears of your future bear will consist of two types of fabric: colorful cotton and white plush (or fur). These two layers must be folded together, right side inward and overstitched from the side of the cotton fabric.
  • After all these steps, you can cut out the details, stepping back from the edge of the seam by 0.5 centimeters. After you have cut out the future teddy bear, proceed to the eversion operation. Here you need to apply all your dexterity and skill. Using a pencil, you need to turn out all the narrow parts of the toy.
  • Fill the bear with cotton wool or padding polyester. Sew up the hole through which you stuffed the toy, trying to keep the stitches as less noticeable as possible. Sew the ears symmetrically with a blind stitch as well.
  • After that, start making out the muzzle and paws of the teddy bear. With black floss in two or four additions, start embroidering the nose and eyes on the toy. In order for the eyes to be the same, they can first be drawn with a simple pencil. Embroider paws with straight stitches to make a semblance of fingers.

From the same colorful fabric as the ears, make a butterfly teddy bear and sew it to the neck. Your cute bear is ready!

How to sew a Teddy bear

The second method involves creating a real Teddy bear. If you are new to the world of needlework, then use a thick fabric for work, but for experienced needlewomen, mohair or even faux fur is suitable. In order to “stuff” a bear, it is best to use a synthetic winterizer, and if you want it to also be able to move its paws and take any poses, you can make a wire frame.

In order to make a bear, first draw its component parts on the template: head, torso, paws and ears. Then they must be sewn, leaving a small gap for stuffing. It is best to sew on the head last.

The eyes and nose of the bear can be made from buttons, you can embroider using floss threads, or you can simply buy ready-made parts in a sewing and needlework store.

In general, sewing a Teddy bear is not difficult. The main thing is to do it with your soul, and then the result will please not only you, but also your loved ones.
