Simple Christmas costumes for kids - lots of ideas! New Year's costumes for girls: dressing up for the holiday What a lion costume looks like

Does your child have leonine traits or does she/he like to impersonate this majestic big cat? A lion costume can be a cute and dressy warrant for a baby or toddler who is already on his feet, or a ferocious image of the king of the jungle and savannah, which appealed to an older child. You can even make a cowardly lion costume from The Wizard of Oz or a lion cub from The Lion King. Since the costume is made from a sweatshirt and sweatpants, it will be comfortable and warm, and is perfect for cold weather on Halloween or New Year's Eve. Below are the steps by which you can easily create your own lion costume.

Difficulty: moderate.

You will need:
- 1-2 meters of brown, orange or sand-colored felt (or any of its analogues), depending on the splendor of the mane;
- a square of darker brown (and further colors on the list) felt;
- scissors;
- glue for fabric;
- large clean and free working surface;
- brown / beige / red / sand or gold top (sweatshirt, for example) with a hood;
- sports trousers similar in the chosen color;
- paper and pencil.

1. Cut about 20 strips of felt of your chosen color, about 2.5 cm wide and as long as you want the lion's mane to be (they will be halved in size in the process).

2. Glue/sew one end of each of these strips to the hood of the sweatshirt, just above the drawstring area (which pulls the hood around the face or neck). Let the stripes partially overlap each other to make sure that the mane looks lush and not thinned. The front row of strips can also - if desired - be attached 1-3 cm from the edge of the felt, so that the face is framed, as it were, by a small fringe. Add more strips as needed so that their row covers the entire front circumference of the hood completely - from the beginning of the hood to its end.

3. If you glued - let the glue dry. Next, start with the last glued strip. Make a loop out of it - bend towards the already sewn end - and now we attach the second end to the same place from above. Thus, we get a row of eyelets - and our mane becomes more magnificent.

4. We cut the same number of strips of the same size. According to the same scheme, glue / sew the second row on the hood not far from the first - at a distance of 1-2 cm, no more. And then - the third, fourth, fifth row as desired.

5. We cut about 20 more strips and, by analogy, glue them in a row along the neckline of the sweatshirt - this will be the lower part of the lion's mane.

6. Cut out two ears from felt. You can make them in two layers (glue two templates together) so that they stand more securely. We sew / glue them on the sides of the hood, slightly bending in the middle, in the form of the letter V - this way the ears will look more natural.

7. If you glued, let the glue dry completely again - set the costume aside for at least 30 minutes.

8. Cut a strip of felt 3.8 to 5 cm wide and as long as you want the tail to be. Glue/sew a ponytail at one end to the back top of the sweatpants.

9. Cut about 10 strips from the darker piece of felt, about 1.3 cm wide and 7.5 cm long. Glue/sew the ends of each strip to the opposite end of the tail to make a tassel - just like with the mane, loops.

10. Ask the child to put his/her pen on a piece of paper. Outline the shape of the hand, as if you were drawing a mitten, draw at a distance of about 2.5 cm from the real outline. Cut out the resulting pattern.

11. From felt according to the pattern (attach it with pins or outline on the material), two identical blanks, then turn the pattern over and cut out two more blanks for the second hand.

12. Glue/sew every two blanks together along the line left during the outline of the margin of 2.5 cm, leaving a hole for the wrist. No need to turn out.
Or glue each pair of blanks with each other completely - so that the child does not feel hot, you can simply attach a good wide elastic band in the middle to the wrong side of the “mittens”, so the “legs” will be attached to the elastic band in the center of the palm.

13. From dark felt, cut into small semicircles - 8 pcs. Then glue them to the ends of the mittens to highlight the claws and toes. Allow the glue to dry thoroughly - at least half an hour - before trying on the suit.

Add-ons:

Strips for the mane and for the tip of the tail can be glued not with loops, but simply at one end - if desired. But in this case, the strips should not be long, and keep in mind that this way the mane will look “fallen” and somewhat untidy;

Light felt stripes in the mane can be interspersed with strips of darker felt - this way the mane will look more natural and more characteristic of an adult lion. Please note that in this case you need to buy much more dark felt;

The tassel on the tail does not have to be made of stripes - if you wish, pick up any other suitable material;

To make the costume look more complete, you may want to draw a lion's muzzle on your face with children's skin paints or put on a ready-made lion mask;

Tighten the hood around the face a little as needed so that, having some weight due to the sewn strips, it does not constantly slide back;

Match the color of the shoes or wear matching colored socks over the shoes.

A costume party or a New Year's carnival is hard to imagine without the king of animals - the lion. But for a king to be worthy, a worthy costume is also needed! Now on the costume market you can find a huge number of models, even from natural materials, but they are all quite expensive, and if the price is low, then the quality is questionable! What to do? - You ask. Our answer is simple - sew a lion costume with your own hands, it will come out "cheap and cheerful", and the way you want. So that you have no doubts about your talents, we will be happy to help you sew such a costume, step by step, step by step. You are ready? Then go ahead!

What you will need:

  1. Overalls or pants with an orange jacket - for the body of a lion.
  2. A small piece of orange fabric, 50x50cm, preferably to match the costume itself.
  3. 5-6 skeins of brown yarn or two old, unnecessary natural fur hats.
  4. An old unwanted sweater of any color.
  5. Thread, needle, scissors.
  6. Makeup.

So, let's begin!

If you have an orange jumpsuit or pants with a jacket, then most of your costume is ready! If not, then you can buy them, or you can sew them. But for this you will need about three meters of orange fabric, preferably fleece. It will be much easier for you to sew a jumpsuit.

1 - front half (two parts).

2 - back half (two parts).

3 - sleeve (two parts).

4 - hood (one piece).

We sew in pairs, first the two back halves, then the two front ones, then we sew along the sides. Now we proceed to the sleeves, sew them along the inner seam and sew along the armhole to the jumpsuit. Next, sew on the hood.

The jumpsuit is ready!

From the remaining fabric you need to make a tail. Lay out a piece of fabric, approximately 45x25 cm and roll it into a tourniquet. The connection can be glued with glue or carefully stitched.

Now take some yarn and make a lion's tail tassel, then insert it into the "tail" and secure with a needle and thread or a stapler.

The finished tail can be carefully sewn into pants or overalls, a little seam opening.

And now - the most interesting! Lion's mane!

We want to offer you two options for making a lion's mane. Let's start with a simpler and cheaper way. It is ideal for those who have an unnecessary sweater at home and a pair of fur hats that are not a pity to cut.

You need to cut off the lower part with an elastic band from the sweater, about 5 cm wide, sew Velcro on the ends. Please note that the length of the elastic should be the size of your head, that is, it should hold well, but at the same time should not press!

So, we sewed Velcro, and now it's time to start sewing on wool. Spread the hats and carefully sew the fur over the entire elastic band from the sweater. You need to sew so that the gum itself is not visible.

It remains to make the lion's ears. To do this, take the remnants of the orange fabric and draw ears on them. Then we cut out four such blanks and, if you have a small piece of foam rubber or synthetic winterizer, then also two such details from them. Now we need to stitch them like this:

The ears are ready - sew them to the mane and that's it, your lion is the real king of the party!

Now consider another version of the mane - from yarn.

If you sewed a jumpsuit according to our pattern, then you will only have to sheathe it with yarn. Take a skein of yarn and cut it on both sides. Thus, you will get many pieces of yarn of approximately the same length. Now collect 4-5 threads and carefully sew to the hood. This work is quite long-term and painstaking, but if you are not too lazy, it will turn out very believable. How many skeins to spend on a mane is up to you, but we can say with confidence that the more yarn you use, the fuller the mane will be.

When you're done with the hair itself, complete the mane with the ears.

To make the lion costume as believable as possible, use face painting, well, or ordinary cosmetics. Draw a nose, mustache and eyes like a lion, then your image will undoubtedly conquer everyone at the carnival!

As you can see, sewing a lion costume is not so difficult, but you just need to stock up on patience as much as possible. But, of course, if you do not have time or you are afraid that you will not succeed, you can always buy an original and beautiful lion costume in our online store.

  • Traveling through the endless expanses of the Internet, I saw a master class called - lion's mane
  • hands, but for some reason it said that every dog dreams of becoming a lion.
  • Every dog dreams of becoming a lion

    Every dog dreams of becoming a lion
  • Why a lion? After all, lions are big wild cats, but then I thought - why not? After all, the magical holiday is coming! So let my beloved dogs Lyalechka and Businka have fun too. I slowly "digested" this lion's mane,

  • because everything rested on a long fur, which you will not find with us in the daytime with fire. I ran around a myriad of stores, but there was no such thing in sight.
  • I even thought of asking the neighbor girls about unnecessary dolls with long hair, but those little girlfriends had long since been thrown away.
  • And then, nevertheless, a way out of this situation was found - she climbed onto the mezzanine and found a "centenary" fluffy children's hat, which she had long forgotten about.
  • But the fact is that in the master class I saw, there was too much trouble: I had to take several measurements of the dog’s head, make a model of her head out of paper and adhesive tape, cut out and sew a cover from silk fabric, and then, cut off the fur in strips and gradually sew it to the cover.
  • And I decided to go my own way, which I will share with you.
  • In order for us to get a lion's mane with our own hands, the following materials are needed:

  • 1.Sleeve from a sweater;
  • 2. Fur, preferably long;
  • 3. Sticky tape and a piece of fabric on the bar and ears.
  • We cut off a small part from the sleeve of the sweater:

  • And undo the seam:

    Immediately, do not forget to process the loops so that they do not untie. And then you should cut out two strips, on which we will sew adhesive tape - simply Velcro:

    We attach two straps and Velcro to our product on the sides of the knitted base:

    You can even try on the future "mane":

    Now it's up to the fur:

    We sew the fur by hand with small stitches from the side of the knitted base.

    It remains to make the ears: fold a piece of fabric in half and draw the ears with a marker:

    Cut out and then stitch the ears:

    Stuff the ears with padding polyester or cotton wool and sew up the bottom:

    And sew to our mane:

    So the lion's mane is ready with your own hands, and now you can try on a new thing.

Many people like the fairy costume. Any elegant dress, beautiful hairstyle - and you are a fairy sorceress. The most important thing is not to forget about the wings.

There are other "winged" costumes for girls. For example, ladybug, bee, butterfly, angel.

Wings are easy to make with your own hands. You will need cardboard or wire for the base and nylon (white or colored tights).

Sew rubber bands to the wings and the child can try them on.

Butterfly wings can be painted directly on the fabric and fixed on the back with harnesses, and on the wrist with the help of special bracelet loops.

Try to fasten graceful dragonfly wings on the harnesses of the dress, disguising the attachment point with beautiful flowers.

For the wings of an angel, you can use fur or feathers.

Disposable plates can also be used for homemade angel wings.

Large earrings and a pair of rings on the fingers will complement the image of a dashing robber.

The witch can be mysterious and mysterious. Who knows what kind of drug she has in the vial and where her spider and snake friends are hiding. A broom is an important addition to the image of a witch.

Tips for choosing a New Year's costume for a girl

The choice of a New Year's costume is an excellent occasion to "try on" the role of your favorite character: to understand what the essence of the character of this or that hero is, to analyze his behavior and actions. This is psychologically very important: the child learns to feel the nuances of various emotions.

If the opinions of the parents and the child regarding the choice of costume do not coincide, it is important, nevertheless, to leave the final word to the child. After all, it is his holiday.

If you decide to make a costume or some details with your own hands, be sure to involve a child in the process. Joint discussion and creativity are very close, helping to better understand each other.

Check the tightness of the fastening of the parts of the suit. The loss of a mantle, wings, or tail can ruin a party in seconds. A diadem that slides over your eyes, prickly elements that make everything in the world itch, sharp hairpins in a royal hairstyle and other excuses from the category “beauty requires sacrifice” are not worth children's tears, believe me.

Dear readers. Tell us how you chose the costume for the girl. Or maybe they did it by hand? Share your experience and tips in the comments.
