One of the most amazing pieces of quartz is the Mayan skull, which was discovered during archaeological excavations on the Yucatan Peninsula. Despite the fact that the product was cut from a piece of a mineral (it must be said, not the most malleable material in processing), it reproduced in detail the anatomical features of the human skull. Curiously, the quartz skull exudes a sour-sweet aroma, the origin of which remains a mystery.

Black quartz, also called morion, undergoes strange metamorphoses under the influence of x-rays and high temperatures. If the mineral is heated to +300 C, it will acquire an original golden hue. Under the influence of a temperature of +400 C, the stone will become colorless. But one has only to irradiate it with X-rays, as quartz returns to its original color.
