How to weave a square basket from newspaper. Master class on weaving baskets from newspaper tubes with photos and videos. Weaving a square basket

I came across such creativity online as weaving from newspaper tubes. I was interested and decided to try it. I have reviewed more than a dozen master classes. Externally, the products are in no way inferior to wickerwork. And for home use they are quite durable and for a gift - nice!
Using various varnishes, paints and coating impregnations when weaving, you can create braids of all the colors of the rainbow.
And by decorating the baskets with beads, flowers, ribbons or appliqués using the deco page technique, you can turn them into works of art.
Here's what I got.
You will need:
1. Newspaper sheets
2. PVA glue
3. Knitting needle
4. Scissors, stationery knife
5. Paint (acrylic), varnish (Finish varnish), alcohol-based stain (origon, larch, lemon...)
6. Brushes for glue and paint.
7. Basis for weaving

Operating procedure:

First, you need to determine the direction of the paper grain. The direction must be longitudinal. There are several ways to determine direction. Here's one: stretch the edges of a piece of paper between the nails of two fingers. In the transverse direction of the fibers, the edge will become wavy; in the longitudinal direction, folds will not form. Strips of this size will make thin tubes for an elegant product. If you need thicker tubes, then the width of the strips and the diameter of the knitting needles need to be increased.
I paint the tubes with a brush on regular oilcloth. I only use alcohol-based stains. On the recommendation of one master class, I tried to paint the tubes with a water-based stain - it ruined everything. When wet, the gluing area separates and the tubes unfold. Don't repeat the same mistakes.
Stage 1: Preparation
We mark the newspaper into strips of 7 cm.

On a backing board, cut the newspaper into strips with a utility knife.

The angle of the knitting needle on the newspaper strip is 10°-15°.

You need to start winding the strip very tightly, wrapping the edge of the newspaper around the knitting needle. The tubes turn out white if the white margin of the newspaper strip is left on the right.

Secure the edge of the newspaper with glue.

At this stage, the finished tubes can be painted in the desired color if desired and allowed to dry thoroughly. You can paint the finished product afterwards. And if you cover it with paint and varnish on top, then no one will guess that this basket is made from an ordinary old magazine (newspaper).

Stage 2: Weaving
Let's start the work by weaving the bottom. It all depends on the size of your product. To weave the basket presented to your attention, you will need 30 (thirty) tubes 50 cm long.
We take 10 tubes (hereinafter: faces) 45-50 cm long. Lay them out in pairs.

We fold the working tube in half and wrap it around the first pair of rays.

The start of work can be marked with a marker on the edge of the beam.

We braid each pair of rays with a rope. The working tubes intersect, then one working tube goes on top of the pair of rays, the other below. As soon as the length of the working tube ends, we extend it (insert the end of the next tube into the hole of the previous one).

We weave two rows until the pair of rays marked with a marker.

We weave the third and fourth row into one ray.

We direct the working tubes to the middle of the bottom.

We form the edging of the bottom. With the first ray (marked with a marker), we go around the next one, directing it to the center of the bottom and so on in a circle.

We insert the last ray from below into the loop of the first ray.

We decorate the 5th (fifth) row with wooden beads with a diameter of 16 cm. You will need 6 pieces. beads

6 (sixth) and 7 (seventh) rows, knit with a rope. The work is almost finished! All that remains is to trim the excess length of the working tubes and tuck them between the rows using a knitting needle.

We cut off the extended ends of the working tubes with scissors.

To make the handle of the basket, leave 3 (three) rays on each side, separating them with clothespins. Place a drop of glue at the base of the remaining rays and cut them off with scissors.

We connect the ends of the basket handle tubes.

Before weaving the handle, drop a drop of glue onto the edge of the tube and secure it with a clothespin. We braid the handle with a tube along the entire length.

At the end of weaving the handle, drop a drop of glue onto the end of the tube and secure it with a clothespin. The main work is finished.

Stage 3: Coloring
For strength, saturate the basket with PVA glue and give it the desired shape. Let the glue dry completely.

Paint the basket with white acrylic paint. (you can add color paste, different dyes or paint with stain).

We cut out the motifs from a napkin and make a page deck. Cover the basket with Finish varnish and dry the finished work.

There is nothing better than something made with your own hands. Admire, rejoice, give as a gift!!!

Thanks to the patience and perseverance of the craftswomen, old newspaper pages magically turn into completely unique things: unique panels, all kinds of amulets, wall clocks, exquisite baskets and candy bowls, vases and flowerpots, chests and caskets - you can’t list everything. Thanks to social networks and the Internet, interesting ideas instantly fly around the globe, encouraging novice newspaper weaving adherents to take up paperwork and improve their skills.

We advise beginners not to start their creative journey with large products. We understand that you probably have grandiose plans. My hands are itching to weave a large laundry box or an impressively sized basket for a trip to the forest to pick mushrooms. Did we guess right?

You can find in our last article a detailed description of the process, starting with making the tubes and ending with their painting and processing before weaving.

So, the preparatory stage is over: in front of you lie the tubes ready to work, and the outlines of the first basket that you want to weave with your own hands have already emerged in your head. Now you need to find a form for braiding. A plastic bucket, vase, flower pot, or deep plate is suitable for this.

Advice. It is better for beginners to start working by weaving an object. Weaving without a shape can cause difficulties at first; without support, it is easy to skew your product and get it asymmetrical. By using a supporting object, you can easily achieve even rows of tubes and control the quality of the braid.

And now we will tell you in detail how to make a basket from newspaper tubes for beginners, and we will reveal all the secrets of successful weaving and the neat appearance of the finished product.

Master class on a round basket without a handle (weave according to shape)

In order for you to be able to decide on the required number of tubes and know in advance how many you need to prepare, we will give approximate calculations.

For a small basket (about the size of a soup plate) you will need about 100-150 straws; for a medium-sized product, prepare about 200-300 of them. Large baskets can require more than 500-700 straws. It all depends on the type and density of weaving, as well as the length and thickness of the newspaper vine.

In this MK we will weave a medium-sized basket. It will require 200-230 tubes wound onto a 1.5 mm knitting needle, 8 - 10 mm wide.

And we’ll immediately give you one more piece of advice. There's no need to rush. Try to avoid gaps between rows of weaving, placing each row close to the previous one. Don't crush the tubes while working, but don't skimp on them either. If you see that they are wrinkled or disheveled, mercilessly cut them off and grow new ones.

To weave a round bottom, fold 4 tubes in pairs, making a cross. Bend another working one in half.

Start braiding the crosspiece with it, weaving the first row with a rope. In this way, complete two more rows.

On the fourth circle, separate the double posts and continue braiding them separately. Try to weave as tightly as possible to avoid gaps. Make three rows of weaving.

The distance between the posts should have increased by this time and become more than 2 cm - it’s time to introduce additional posts. Make a hole with scissors or an awl and insert an additional stand, dripping a little polymer glue for security. Don’t forget to check your steps with the step-by-step photos provided.

Braid the added posts with string until the bottom is the size you need. The bottom of the basket is ready.

Take the shape you have chosen, which will serve as a temporary basis for the future basket. In our case, this is a deep inverted plate. Place the weaving on the form and gradually bend the racks along it to move to the walls. Continue braiding the sides with rope.

Place something heavy on top of your workpiece to securely fix its position.

If it’s uncomfortable for you to work like this, turn the weave over. Weave the basket to the desired height and cut the working tubes.

Next, bend a “rope of 4 tubes” (in the last article we talked in detail about different ones).

Extend the cut working tubes for bending in a different color (in our case, blue), and glue 2 more blue tubes behind the posts.

Take the leftmost blue tube and place it behind the fourth post in the same way as weaving a simple rope. And if you were making a rope of three tubes, you would weave with three blue tubes, winding each of them behind the third stand, and not behind the fourth.

Take the left tube again, count 3 racks and wind it behind the free fourth one. Weave until the last free post. This point is illustrated by the photo below.

Now it's time to complete the craft. Take it now the far right tube. Having counted 3 racks from it, place it behind the fourth and tuck it inside the basket without moving it out. Continue weaving according to this pattern with the remaining working tubes, each time placing the rightmost one behind the 4th post inside the basket.

Tuck the ends into the weave, bring them out and cut them off from the front side.

All that remains is to lay the white posts. Take one of them, count three more from it and after the third stand, thread it under the blue pigtail, leading it out.

Then take the next one and similarly place it under the braid after 3 posts from it.

And so on...

When all the racks are laid, all that remains is to trim and hide their ends.

Completing work on a wicker product involves priming it. To do this, you can use a solution of PVA with water in a 1:1 ratio or a composition of acrylic varnish + water in the same proportion. Carefully coat the basket with primer using a soft brush.

We want to warn you right away: PVA can turn yellow over time. To avoid this, it is better to cover wickerwork with a solution of acrylic varnish. The latter must be water-based; it can be distinguished from alkyd by the absence of odor.

After the basket has completely dried (this will take about a day), varnish it with acrylic varnish and leave it to dry again. Very thick varnish can be pre-diluted with water.

Do not be afraid that after such manipulation the product will turn a little white, this is temporary. After drying, the varnish will become transparent, and the craft will take on a finished look. You can give it a beautiful shine or an elegant matte texture depending on the varnish used. Let us remind you that it can be glossy, semi-gloss, matte or semi-matte - choose to your taste.

At the beginning of your creative journey, be sure to weave such a basket for fruits or sweets. As you can see, it turns out very cute, which means you will not only be able to practice crocheting a paper vine, but will also make an excellent gift for all occasions.

If you still have questions, you should watch a detailed video from Lada Ligai. In it, she tells how she wove a pot-bellied mini-basket.

Oval basket with a simple handle (weave without shape)

Now let's look at how to weave a cute little oval basket. In this case, the bottom is woven in a different way.

You can find step-by-step photos and a clear one in our last article.

We offer to watch the weaving process itself live in a video master class from Alena Bugrova. In his lesson, the author clearly and easily explains all the intricacies of weaving an oval basket from newspaper tubes.

On our own behalf we would like to add:

  • This craft takes about 100 tubes;
  • to obtain a color like in MK, you need to greatly dilute the “walnut” water stain with water;
  • the distance between the posts here is approximately 2 centimeters;
  • It is advisable to insert wire into several tubes for the handle so that it holds its shape.

This cute miniature basket is a great gift idea for any occasion. For example, you can weave it for Easter and, filling it with painted Easter eggs or sweets, present a gift set to people dear to you.

Folds for baskets

If you are a beginner and working on a basket for the first time, we recommend finishing the edge with simple folds. For small and medium-sized products, volumetric bends are suitable, for example, a rod or an isid with 3 or more tubes. We considered the technique of their implementation.

You can also decorate the edge of the basket with a voluminous openwork braid. You can watch its various types and weaving features in the videos we recommend.

The first lesson from Alena Bugrova is devoted to making a spectacular braid from tubes with a plastic cord inside. Be sure to practice braiding it - such a decorative fold turns the basket into a real masterpiece.

The second detailed and understandable video tutorial from Lada Ligai is maximally adapted for beginners. It gradually reveals all the secrets of weaving a voluminous braid and its correct ending.

Don't be afraid to experiment with different folds. They are able to give the simplest product an elegant and festive look.

We design the handle

The simplest pen

In the photo it looks like this:

To make it, you need to take a bunch of 3-4 tubes, form a bend in the handle and attach the workpiece to the basket. Next, carefully wrap the entire handle with a moistened tube, periodically lubricating it with glue so that the winding fits tightly. For this job it is better to use polymer glue than PVA. It dries quickly and fixes, while the paper does not have time to get wet.

Instead of a bundle of tubes, you can take a thick wire (cable) and wrap it around several tubes at once. The process in the photo looks like this:

Handle design using chintz weaving

It looks like this:

To work, take moistened tubes and immediately increase their length. Mark their locations on the basket. Use an awl to make holes and insert tubes into them. Glue the ends while they dry, secure them with clothespins.

Give the tubes the desired bend. To make them better hold their shape, you can insert 1-0.9 mm thick wire into them in advance. Using a working tube, we braid these 3 main tubes with simple calico weaving.

Simple twisted handle

In the photo she looks like this:

It is also quite easy to do for a beginner. For small pens you need to take a bundle of 5-7 tubes, you can insert a wire into one of them. Next, they need to be laid, intertwined with rope and gradually twisted.

We present to you a detailed MK from Lada Ligai, in which each step is accompanied by a photo.

If you still don’t understand how to properly twist and round such a handle, there is only one way out - urgently watch a detailed video from a craftswoman.

Sturdy twisted basket handle

It is better to make it using a thick cable or willow rod.

For ease of perception, we suggest you watch 3 stages of working on the handle.

Part 1: You will learn how to correctly insert a willow rod into the wall of a basket:

Part 2: How to wrap it with paper vine:

Part 3: Features of fastening the handle with a beautiful connecting lock.

Openwork handle

Do you want to surprise everyone with the unusual and elegant look of your basket? Then you urgently need to master openwork knitting handles.

For this method, each paper tube of the handle base must be reinforced with wire. You will learn the specifics of the work from our recommended video from Irina Chirkova.

Braid with 4 tubes

A similar pen looks like this:

It's very easy to do, step by step:

8 tube braid

The photo shows what a handle looks like, woven with an ordinary volumetric braid of 8 pipes.

If the thickness of the handle is not enough for you, then you can insert a cable, television wire, thick wire or a bunch of paper tubes inside. The thicker version will look like this:

The process of weaving such a braid is covered in detail in a video from Olga Ryzhkova.

Below are step-by-step photographs of attaching the handle to the basket and neatly decorating the lock:

Wooden handle

You can also use an ordinary thick branch as a handle. Take a walk to the nearest park and get the material absolutely free. The found branch must be sawed off to the desired shape, cleaned by removing the bark, and sanded for smoothness. If desired, you can paint the wood with stain and cover it with acrylic varnish.

Look how beautiful and unusual such handles on baskets look.

Sew a cover for a basket

The last and optional stage of working on the basket is decorating it. You can decorate your wicker craft with a catchy artificial flower, satin ribbons, a bright bow, or sew a cute fabric cover.

Its function is not only to decorate the basket, but also to protect the walls from contamination and make it easier to care for. In addition, you can use it to cover weaving flaws in your first works, giving them an impeccable look.

In this video you will learn how to sew a cover for a round bottom basket.

If you've made a square bottom basket, see how to sew a fabric liner into it. It only requires three measurements and no complex calculations or templates. All the details are in the video.

Ideas for inspiration

Now that you are familiar with the basics of weaving simple products, we would like to offer you a photo selection of the works of different craftswomen. Here you will find not only an Easter basket made from newspaper tubes for beginner newspaper weaving enthusiasts, but also all sorts of options for all occasions.

And even if your first basket does not turn out the same as in the picture, you will make it yourself, with your own hands. And experience, accuracy and speed of weaving will definitely come with practice. The main thing is to always take on work with a good mood and attitude - and you will succeed!

Wickerwork will never go out of style. Beautiful baskets will help decorate your home and put it in order, because you can put anything in them. If you want to learn how to weave paper baskets, this article will provide three master classes for beginners with different techniques for making them.

A little about weaving

One of the oldest types of needlework is weaving. Household items made using this method have been found in excavations around the world. People used materials given to them by nature to make various baskets, cups, and furniture. Even the walls of houses were woven from branches and coated with clay for strength. Small toys made for children with their own hands had a sacred meaning. People wove a piece of their soul, which protected the owner from evil spirits and diseases. For this technique, natural materials were taken - reed, vine, rattan, corn leaves. Over time, new materials began to appear and weaving changed. Not so long ago, wickerwork was replaced by paper weaving. Due to the low cost of the material and its fairly simple preparation for work, this type of weaving has received universal recognition. Even a novice craftsman can create a paper basket with his own hands. And there will definitely be a use for it.

Small basket

Small baskets can be used to store small items and will help tidy up your home. Or create a small composition with flowers that will decorate the interior.

A master class will help you create such a craft. To make a basket you will need:

  • Sheet of cardboard;
  • Corrugated paper;
  • Compass;
  • Scissors;
  • Matches;
  • Glue gun.

Corrugated paper has advantages and disadvantages. Its main good quality is its plasticity; it stretches very easily. But the disadvantage is that it fades over time. Plus, the bright paper will definitely stain your fingers as you work. So take care of protecting your hands by applying a special cream or wearing gloves.

To begin, cut the paper into long strips, about two centimeters wide. Carefully, so as not to tear it, twist the strips with your fingers. The process is similar to spinning threads.

Cardboard is used for the bottom of this craft, and matches are used for the supporting pegs on which weaving is done. Draw two circles with a radius of 4 and 5 cm on the cardboard. The bottom template is ready.

Cut in a wide circle. In the distance between the large and small circles, you need to strengthen the matches by first puncturing small holes at a distance of 1 cm. If you made wide holes, additionally place the matches on hot glue for strength. It should look like this.

Tie the prepared “threads” of corrugated paper into a knot and place it on the first match post. Start braiding the basket, circling the columns with a braid. Any type of weaving can be used.

To finish the product you need to hide the tails inside the weave. Use a crochet hook. Pull the thread through the top few rows, cut it and glue it with a glue gun.

Do not use PVA glue for this work, as the paper is very thin and will simply fall apart from the liquid glue.

Make a pen by weaving paper strings into a pigtail. Also hide the tails inside and glue them. The basket is ready! You can decorate it with flowers as in the photo.

Product made from paper strips

The technique for making such a craft is also quite simple. Using colored office paper will save you from the process of coloring the finished product. Just choose your favorite colors and start creating.

To create a paper basket, take:

  • Colored paper for office equipment;
  • Scissors;
  • Paper clips.

This craft is made using the checkerboard weaving method. Prepare strips of paper 2 cm wide. Take as many horizontal strips as needed to get the bottom of the desired width. Weave vertical stripes into them in a checkerboard pattern. You can see how to do it in the photo.

When the bottom is ready, you need to lift the remaining strips up and strengthen the initial strip of weaving.

Continue weaving with a checkerboard pattern until the desired size is obtained. Fold the remaining tails inward and secure with glue.

All that remains is to attach the handle and the craft is ready.

From paper tubes

Weaving various products from paper tubes is a very exciting activity. And it will bring a lot of benefits. After all, from this simple material you can create a flower basket or a huge laundry basket. You just need to practice a little and you will definitely succeed. This type of weaving is especially favored by masters of suite design. To decorate sweet compositions, wicker containers are often required. Their cost in stores is quite high, so needlewomen prefer to weave them themselves. This master class will be about how to weave such a product.

First you need to prepare paper tubes. It is best to make them from newsprint. You can clearly see the process of making and painting them in the video tutorial.

To make a paper vine basket, take:

  • Corrugated cardboard;
  • Newspaper tubes;
  • Clothespins;
  • Scissors;
  • PVA glue;
  • A small container that you will braid (bowl, glass, box).

Cut out the bottom of the future basket from cardboard. Attach the tube stands to it with glue. Next, the entire weaving process is shown step by step in the photo.

The basket lid is done in exactly the same way. Just take measurements from the top edge of the product and make a small increase. You can leave the basket without a handle; it looks very original.

Video on the topic of the article

If you have any difficulties working with paper straws, you can watch a video with detailed master classes on weaving baskets. We wish you creative success!

Today, a new type of needlework is successfully developing - weaving from newspapers. For many, this activity has already become a hobby that is simply impossible to give up. This type of creativity helps you take a break from the everyday hustle and bustle, switch your attention and do useful things yourself to create home comfort. A laundry basket made from newspaper tubes will become an interesting decor in the bathroom interior.

Materials

To weave a basket you need to have the following tools:

  • ordinary newspapers that every home has;
  • dye to create the color of the future basket. Water-based stain is often used;
  • stationery knife and scissors;
  • a long needle, the diameter of which should be 2.5 ml;
  • PVA glue with a thin brush or glue in the form of a pencil;
  • regular clothespins for secure fixation;
  • ruler;
  • a simple pencil;
  • acrylic lacquer;
  • brush;
  • weight for oppression.

Before you start weaving a basket, you need to imagine what it should be like. You should definitely take into account parameters such as shape, height and density of weaving. If you have difficulties with this, then you can use a bucket or box of the required size as a model.

How to make newspaper tubes?

When creating a laundry basket, paper is used, which is a substitute for wicker. Therefore, before starting work, it is necessary to prepare newspaper tubes. Sequencing:

  • Newspaper sheets must be made in A4 format. It is the size of the album sheet that is optimal and is 21x30 cm.
  • Each prepared leaf must also be cut into three leaves lengthwise, then the size of one leaf will be 7x30 cm.
  • Using a stationery knife, you can quickly and accurately make a large number of leaves of the required size. Such a knife will allow you to make smooth edges and eliminate traces of paper fibers. In the future, each strip will become a tube.
  • It is necessary to sort the sheets. Divide them into two piles: with printed text and with white stripes, which are always on the edges of newspaper sheets. This preparation will allow you to make white tubes from those strips that were on the edges of the newspaper sheet; the rest of the tubes will need to be painted.
  • Take one strip and place it vertically, with the white side on the right.
  • Place the knitting needle at the bottom left at an angle of about 30 degrees, and begin to wind the sheet onto it. When only 1 cm of strip remains, secure the tube with glue.
  • Next, do the same steps with colored newsprint. The only thing is that you need to try to hide all the dark areas in the middle.
  • After this work, you will receive identical paper tubes, the length of which will be slightly more than 30 cm.
  • A distinctive feature of each tube will be one pointed edge and the other in the form of a bell. This allows you to connect several tubes together using glue to create a long stick that resembles a vine.

Watch a short video tutorial on how to make straws from newspapers.

Painting the tubes

Before you start painting the tubes, you need to prepare your work area. Take a small tray and place plastic on it. You can dry the “vine” on it after painting. Prepare the stain and put gloves on your hands.

You can work with 10 tubes at once. Dip them in the stain for 3-5 seconds. Then lower the other end. After paint, each tube must be carefully placed on a tray, leaving some distance between the “vines”. When the tray is completely filled, then you can lay the straws on top as a “woodpile”.

To dry completely, just leave the tray with the straws for 12 hours. It is better to avoid additional sources of heat, since sudden drying can make the tubes dry out and they will lose their plasticity.

Weaving baskets of different shapes

Square

To create a wicker basket from square newspaper tubes, you need to start by forming the bottom into a square.

So, first you need to take a strip of cardboard, keeping in mind that the bottom of the basket will be slightly smaller than the size of the cardboard. Then fold it in half. Using a hole punch, make small holes in the cardboard, the distance between which should be no more than 2 cm. You need to insert a long “working rod” into the holes.

Now you can start weaving the bottom of the basket. The elongated tube must be woven next to the cardboard paper. When the weaving reaches the edge, then you need to make a turn and weave in the opposite direction. So that the “working vine” does not end, you constantly need to lengthen it - add more newspaper tubes. It is necessary to keep the size of the bottom under special control, as its width may narrow. Thus, it creates a square bottom of the desired size.

To see this process clearly, see the video below.

Next, you can move on to weaving the side walls of the basket. There are already two vines of the future frame, so it is necessary to make two more walls. To do this, you need to take a long newspaper tube, bend it in half and insert both ends into the bottom of the basket. The tails that appear on the back of the bottom need to be bent upward and secured. Thus, a stable frame is obtained. Depending on the desired height of the basket, it is necessary to create a “working vine” of the required size.

To securely fix the walls of the basket, you need to take a heavy object shaped like the future product and place it in the center. Next, the frame tubes are attached to it using an elastic band. For a square basket, it is very important to create smooth edges. When weaving a product of a different shape, you can do without a sample inside.

Weaving must begin from the bottom of the basket. You need to take a long tube and weave it into one of the sides, while alternating the position of the vertical tubes, from the front to the back. In this way you need to form all the walls.

At the beginning of weaving, the end of the “working vine” remains; in the future it will be used as one of the elements of the frame. It allows you to create an odd number of vertical tubes. After each row, the free end must be braided. The process of weaving the side walls occurs in a circle until you get a basket of the desired size.

For a simple way to weave walls with a rope pattern, see the video below.

Rectangular

To create a rectangular basket, you need to start by weaving a rectangular bottom. You need to create a cardboard pattern for the bottom of the basket. Then place it along the edge of the finished tube and secure the structure with clothespins. Next, you need to place paper tubes across the base, and in turn, each “vine” should go under or above the base, adhering to the required weaving density. For a while, the structure should be covered with another newspaper tube and secured with clothespins. The bottom will resemble a comb, so then you need to weave in new tubes, adhering to a checkerboard pattern, to create the necessary density of the bottom. When the bottom acquires the required density, the clothespins can be removed, because it will already hold its shape on its own. The width of the bottom depends entirely on the size of the pattern. When weaving the bottom, so-called rays will remain, which will later be used as the basis of the frame. With their help it will be possible to create the side walls of the frame.

Round

A round basket is the most difficult to make, because it takes a lot of effort to form a round bottom. The simplest method is considered to be “rope”. You need to take six tubes and connect them together using clothespins to create a single plane. Then this action should be repeated. The finished planes need to be laid crosswise.

Next you will need a “vine”, which will be used for further weaving of the product. It needs to be bent in half and the fork placed near the beam that forms the “cross”. When turning, the working tube must be bent. You should pass the top part down and the bottom part up until you reach another beam of six tubes. Bends should be made at an angle of 90 degrees, and the lower and upper parts of the “vine” should be constantly changed. This action must be performed four times. The result is a ring that should be immediately secured with clothespins.

After completing three circles, you need to take six tubes and move them apart in pairs to form a flat surface. Next, weaving with a working tube must be done every two tubes. And again make three circles. It is necessary to take steps to separate the couples. Weaving must be done before creating a base of the required size. The bottom of the round basket will resemble a sun, which consists of 24 rays.

Corner

When weaving a corner laundry basket from newspaper tubes, you should follow some rules due to the shape of the product:

  • For the basket posts, it is better to use tubes from a whole sheet of printer paper or take sheets from a magazine. Soft newspaper tubes cannot support the entire structure.
  • To create a flat bottom, you need to place a weight on it when designing the basket, paying special attention to the corners.
  • Before painting the product, it is necessary to calculate the amount of acrylic varnish, otherwise you will have to paint it with a different color, and the result will not be ideal.

Edge decoration

When the basket of the required height is ready, you need to hide the ends of the tubes that form the frame, and also do not forget to fix and hide the working tube. This will require a long knitting needle. It needs to be inserted into the hole near the rack in the middle for 3 rows. This is where you will need to hide the tip.

The action with the knitting needle must be repeated in the other direction also for 3 rows, put the stand on it and push it down. Thus, each rack will bend and tighten. At the end of the work, the edge of the product will be ready.

Each hole where the stand has fallen must be coated with glue and allowed to dry. After this, use scissors to trim all the edges of the protruding tubes. All sections must be carefully hidden between newspaper tubes.

If you have the time and opportunity, and most importantly the desire, you can try yourself and learn how to weave baskets from a more traditional material - willow branches. They are flexible, hold their shape well when woven, and they make beautiful products: not only baskets, but also other interior items, and even furniture.

Before considering the correct weaving technology, it is necessary to study the peculiarities of twisting the newspaper tubes themselves. The beauty and strength of the finished baskets directly depends on their quality.

How to roll newspaper tubes

Let's look at an example of how to make tubes from ordinary newspapers, so that you can then weave them into a basket or any other product. They can be made from different papers, which will directly determine the density and other characteristics. The printing paper on which newspapers are printed is the thinnest, so tubes made from it are flexible and extremely convenient to use.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

You need to take a sheet of newspaper.

Fold it in half lengthwise and cut along the fold with a utility knife.

Fold the resulting two sheets in half again and cut along the fold again.

Thus, we divided the newspaper sheet into 4 equal parts and received 4 blanks for the tubes. To weave any product you will need quite a lot of strips, so you first need to cut the blanks and then start making tubes.

It is convenient to twist the tubes using a long thin stick, instead of which you can use a regular knitting needle or a bicycle spoke. The cut strip of newspaper must be placed on the table. Attach a knitting needle to the lower right corner of the strip so that both ends protrude beyond the strip, and tightly wind the newspaper onto it. When the entire strip of newspaper is wound onto a knitting needle, there will be one loose corner left on which you need to apply a drop of glue and press.

Carefully remove the knitting needle from the resulting tube.

The tubes can be made of various sizes, both in length and thickness, depending on what product will be made from them. If you need to make a short tube, then the prepared strip of newspaper needs to be cut into two parts across. You can use knitting needles of different diameters and make tubes of different thicknesses.

To twist tubes of different strengths, you need to use certain types of paper. You can make blanks for the basket from an A4 sheet of regular printing paper by cutting it lengthwise into 4 strips and twisting them into tubes using the technology described above. They are very durable compared to tubes made from newspapers.

To obtain less rigid tubes, the newspaper sheet is divided into 6 parts, resulting in 6 strips.

To make white tubes you will need newsprint with one white side. The cut strip of newspaper should be placed on the table with the white side up. Attach a knitting needle to the right corner of the strip at the bottom and wind the newspaper onto the knitting needle. The newspaper should be pressed tightly against the knitting needle to make the tube neat.

White tubes are dyed in various colors and used for weaving multi-colored products.

To make the tube longer, connect two or three short tubes, inserting them into each other.

If the end of one tube does not fit well into the other, it should be pressed with your fingers and twisted, applying a little glue for a strong connection.

The resulting tubes are great for making any wickerwork, including baskets.

In order to weave a basket from newspaper tubes well, you do not need to have any special knowledge. A little practice and strict adherence to technology allow you to make a very high-quality product.

Weaving baskets from newspapers

To make baskets you will need:

  • newspaper tubes of the same size and diameter in dark blue and light blue shades;
  • sharp scissors;
  • PVA glue;
  • thin knitting needle:
  • plastic bucket.

The following sequence of actions must be followed:

If there are no colored tubes, you need to divide a thick sheet of newspaper with one white side into 4 parts and twist the tubes from them using a knitting needle as described in the first part of the article. Half of the resulting tubes should be painted dark blue, and the other half blue.

Take 8 dark blue tubes and divide them into 4 groups of 2 pieces each.

Place 2 groups on the table vertically and parallel to each other.

Place the third group of tubes horizontally from right to left on top of the first pair of tubes lying vertically on the table and under the second pair.

The fourth group, on the contrary, should be placed under the first pair of tubes lying on the table and on top of the second. Tighten the resulting structure tightly.

You need to take one blue tube and bend it in half.

Place the left horizontal edge of the workpiece between the two ends of the tube and bend the bottom of the blue tube over the top vertical axis of the 4 blue tubes, and the top part under the bottom of this axis.

Braid the remaining parts of the workpiece using the same principle, making a full circle.

Increase the length of the blue tube by inserting two identical tubes into it, and make another circle of weaving.

On the third circle, divide the horizontal part of the four dark blue tubes in half and weave the two ends of the blue tube between them, passing them alternately over and under the bottom, and also pulling and holding with your finger to secure the division of the axis of the blue tubes into 2 parts.

Using the same technology, make two full circles of weaving.

Weave blue tubes through each dark blue tube for three circles.

Cut the ends of the blue tube diagonally with sharp scissors and insert 2 blue tubes into them.

Make 1 circle of weaving.

Connect the dark blue tubes with the blue ones and weave 1 more circle.

Bend at the base and lift all the blue tubes up.

Place a plastic container in the center of the base of the basket.

Start weaving the connecting part between the base and the future walls of the basket, hooking the blue tubes on top of the blue ones and turning them in the other direction, and then braiding them with a “pigtail” over the vertically standing tubes, pulling them tightly together.
