How to find quality tights. How to choose the color of tights to match clothes and shoes? How to choose shiny tights

Whether you love them or hate them, wear them with pleasure or put them on reluctantly, tights have been and remain an invariable attribute of the conservative business dress code.

In this article, I do not intend to analyze the question of whether to wear them or not to wear them. I suggest learning how to make better choices in the hosiery department.

Density of nude tights

The thinner the nude tights, the better they look on the leg. But thin tights are more vulnerable when in contact with any rough surfaces. If you can afford it, choose 8, 10 and 15 denier tights. They are almost invisible on the leg, but create that “silk” effect of a smooth leg when viewed. Tights of 20 or 30 denier will already be perceived as a certain “density” on your leg. But 40 denier tights require very careful treatment, because often they are the ones who create this “aging” effect on the legs.

I know that some women wear tight nude tights because they are trying to hide defects on their legs (for example, varicose veins). But in reality, you won't fool anyone with this. Because even thick tights still do not mask defects well enough. It is better to entrust this task to a laser and an experienced phlebologist. A problem with blood flow in the veins can quickly turn from aesthetic to medical.

Refrain from flesh-colored tights thicker than 40 den (with microfiber, for example), as well as from any wool or cotton textures - they are not appropriate in the office, and, besides, they decorate very few legs.

Expensive or cheap?

I honestly tried to experiment, finding out whether expensive tights were worth the money. My competitors included Wolford, Falke, Philippe Matinghon, Pierre Cardin, Calzedonia, Sisi, Omsa, and a lot of others.

To date, I have not identified any super advantages of very expensive tights. In my experience, average tights do just as well. For me, tights are a short-lived product in any case, and I don’t see much point in overpaying for flesh-colored thin tights that look the same from all manufacturers, plus or minus. Maybe this is just my experience? I'd love it if you shared yours!
What kind of tights do you wear? Which ones do you like and which ones are a waste of money?

I look forward to your comments!

To choose the right tights for a black dress, you should even take into account the color of your shoes. Shoes and hosiery should form a harmonious combination. And the color of the accessories should also be in harmony with the shoes and tights.

Open-toed shoes don't go well with black tights. Avoid combining them with beige or white shoes - it looks vulgar and tasteless.

Fashion trends

Modern designers offer many bright models of tights for everyday life, for the office, and for an evening out. Tights with predatory patterns are the most fashionable trend of the current fashion season; they go well with black outfits.

Tights with leaves or flowers can add a little lightness to a conservative black dress. Any casual wear, including a black dress, will sparkle in a new way if you pair it with fashionable tights with beads, ruffles or bows. This set would be appropriate for a party with friends.

Fashionable openwork tights add elegance and sexuality to a black dress of any style. For example, lace white tights will make a black dress delicate and light, and black ones - sensual and seductive.

A black office dress can be worn with wine or burgundy thick tights and matching shoes.

But still, you shouldn’t take the question of which tights to wear with a black dress too seriously. Feel free to combine your favorite dresses with different accessories to create charming, unique looks.

An incorrectly selected range of colors will ruin the girl’s appearance, even if she is dressed in the most expensive clothes, and will highlight flaws. Although bright colors love experimentation, it is important to adhere to general rules.

Let's divide each shade into two categories.

1. Black. Clothes: suitable for small black dresses, dark skirts. For a romantic or sexy look, 5 – 10 den, and for a stylish look, 70 – 100 den. Absolutely cannot be worn with light colored hair. This is unsightly and visually cuts the body into several parts, which is unacceptable for short people. Shoes: only dark or, if colored, heavy textured.

2. Flesh (beige). Clothing: tone on tone, light, beige, brown and dark. The density should not exceed 40 den. The shade is no lighter than skin tone, preferably a little darker, with a matte texture. Shoes: elegant, graceful, brown palette or colored in a delicate tone.

3. Brown. Clothes: the best combination with bed colors (cream, beige, white). Thin tights in vanilla and coffee shades will go well with a black dress or skirt. Shoes: in bright colors or tone on tone will be an elegant addition to the look.

4. Gray. Clothes: all varieties of bed shades, for example: soft pink, lilac, beige, cream. A universal color for combining contrasts (orange and purple). Shoes: dark green, brown, gray and purple.

Colored tights deserve special attention. It is important to remember that this type of product is contraindicated for elegant age. But for the rest of us, the endless number of combinations and options allows for flights of fancy.

1) go well with solid colors (gray, black, brown);

2) you can emphasize the length of your legs or visually lengthen them with colors of the same shade as your clothes;

3) selected accessories in the color of the hosiery will create a stylish look;

4) in the color of a less noticeable ornament of a skirt, sweater, dress;

5) combine with the tone of the knitwear (blouse, jacket, turtleneck).

1) should match the tone of the tights or rough texture if the girl is short;

2) contrasting combination of shades;

3) ornament of hosiery of a single color.

These are just general rules for choosing tights. Every year new fashion trends and more and more extravagant combinations of the color palette appear. When creating your own style, don’t be afraid to experiment.

Regular tights are no longer as popular as they used to be. Today, stores sell tights of different shades to suit every taste. With the onset of spring, you can indulge in a riot of colors. Instead of regular tights, wear tights in a bright and rich color. They will help make your look unique and your legs longer. It is important that the tights fit well into the image.

A color scheme

1. Bright tights go well with clothes in black, brown and gray shades. This combination will be original and unvariegated.

2. Jewelry, belts, and small handbags that match the tights look good. Fashion experts recommend combining no more than three colors.

3. Colored tights, combined with shoes in bright colors, together with a dress or skirt, highlight your legs.

4. White tights will make your look soft and feminine. They can be worn with denim skirts, knitwear and various tunics.

5. Lurex tights will complement your festive outfit. They will suit almost any clothing. These tights will become an indispensable item for club parties.

6. The colors of tights can be different, but the most “delicious” are considered to be: pink, lilac, sea green.

7. Tights in bright colors look unusual and stylish with a short dress or miniskirt.

8. You should choose shades that will contrast with each other.

9. Gray and white tights can be worn with clothes that have lace and denim. To avoid any doubts about the compatibility of the chosen color of tights, you can simply purchase a plain accessory, it could be a scarf, a belt or jewelry.

Combination of textures

1. Tattoo tights are in fashion; they can be successfully worn with clothes in pastel or dark shades.

2. Tights with embroidery and a voluminous pattern will look harmonious with pastel-colored items.

3. Openwork tights with patterns are ideal for slender legs.

4. High dark knee socks over tights have come back into fashion; in cold weather they will become a favorite wardrobe item for fashionistas.

5. Openwork and knitted models look stylish with over the knee boots and high boots.

It is better to choose feminine models when it comes to shoes. Shoes can be with or without heels. It is not recommended to wear colored tights with sports shoes. There are many options with this wardrobe item, the main thing is to find your style and create a bright and fresh image.

Tights are not only a warm item of clothing, but also fashionable. They can be red, green, blue, or any color of the rainbow! Everything your imagination allows. To avoid looking like a Christmas tree, you should choose them correctly. And then success in the form of a stylish look is guaranteed.

This fashionable accessory is not just a necessity, but also a wonderful addition to the created image. After all, tights can not only give warmth, but also transform, make a statement and attract attention. Depending on your goals, follow some rules when choosing this part of your wardrobe.

Color spectrum

Wear bright tights with equally bright clothes. The main thing is to follow the color scheme. For example, colors that are opposite on the color wheel or different shades of the same color are acceptable. A win-win option is to choose tights that match the color of your shoes. In this case, try to choose monochromatic clothes and neutral shades.

Tights in the color of the bottom

It's simple: red tights - red skirt. The top is as neutral as possible. Tights in the color of some item of clothing, decoration, print. For example, blue tights will look good with a dress with blue flowers. It would be a mistake only if the colors of the tights and the print are very different. Tights can be the only accent of the look. A classic black dress and black shoes are suitable for this. In this case, you can play with colors. Whatever your innate sense of style dictates.

Gradient

Tights with ombre look original and cute. A smooth transition from black to red, from fuchsia to soft pink or other colors will surprise and delight. What to wear with it? These tights are something not entirely formal, but at the same time bright and doll-like. Choose fluffy short dresses with an emphasis on the waist. The dress should be the same color as the top of the tights. A tutu skirt will make friends with gradient tights. The color of the skirt is also the color of the top of the tights. The top is neutral and without print.

Shiny

A great option for a party or a romantic getaway are shiny tights. They will become the main accessory and accent of the image. What to wear with it? Any dark shades of clothing are ideal. We suggest wearing tights with a simple cut dress or with a flowing full skirt in combination with a closed blouse.

Zoo

Animal prints are a bright trend this season. But, despite all the brightness and originality of the print, it also has its drawbacks: the color can visually fill out the legs and it is not suitable for everyone. What to wear with it? Leopard print tights are the perfect bottom for a black top. For example, choose silhouette-flattering dresses or long tunics. For footwear, black ankle boots or over-the-knee boots without heels are suitable. An interesting outfit can be created from these tights in combination with mini-shorts made of dark dense fabric. Add a headscarf or scarf and chunky bracelets. Of the bright colors, red and its shades are friends with “leopard”: dark blue, emerald, plum.

Tights are a fairly important part of any woman’s wardrobe, regardless of her age, social status, or wallet size. Tights decorate women's legs if they are chosen correctly. But the variety of models and colors presented in the store sometimes makes your eyes wide open. How to choose tights correctly?

How to choose tights

What is DEN

This indicates the tightness of the tights. DEN is “denier”, a value indicating the weight of a thread 9 km long. Thus, tights, which have a density of 20 DEN, are made of thread, 9 km of which weighs only 20 g.

Tights with a density of 10-15 DEN are worn in hot weather. These are very thin tights that are almost invisible on the leg. For everyday wear in summer, it is recommended to use tights with a density of 15-20 DEN. 40 DEN tights are worn on cold days and are suitable for the autumn-spring period. Naturally, 40 DEN tights are stronger than 20 DEN tights. Tights 50-180 DEN are intended for cold weather or they are therapeutic and prophylactic tights, which are indicated for pregnant women or those who suffer from varicose veins.

The density for different areas of tights may vary. So, if the density of tights is 40 DEN, then on the heels, toes and in the area of panties the density indicator can be 60-70 DEN.

Composition as a guideline for choice

If the tights contain lycra (Lycra, Dorlastan or Spandex), then even after prolonged wear these tights will not stretch or change their shape. But if the packaging states that the tights contain less than 10% lycra, then in all likelihood the lycra is only contained in the waistband. Consequently, the tights will stretch, perhaps even wrinkle at the knees. If the lycra content is more than 30%, most likely these tights are medical. The optimal lycra content is 10-30%.

Some tights also contain microfiber - a large number of threads, which gives softness and strength to the yarn. As a rule, these are warm tights, and they cost more.

Winter tights may contain acrylic - artificial wool. These are soft tights, and their price is low, but they have a disadvantage: after you wear them a few times, the tights will form pills.

How to determine the size of tights

As a rule, you can find a size table on the package, compare the data with your height and weight, and choose tights of your size. Most often, the size is marked with numbers 1-6. But it happens that the size is indicated in Latin letters XL (extra large) - very large, L (large) - large, M (middle) - medium, S (small) - small. If you have doubts when you study the size chart on the packaging of tights, it is better to take the product one size larger - if the tights are too small, arrows will immediately form on them.

Tights that are incorrectly selected in color and density can ruin even the most impeccable look, and in addition to this, they can also distort your proportions, so you should pay special attention to the choice of tights. I'll start, perhaps, with the most important thing - color. Many people believe that the color of tights should match the color of the outfit: skirt, dress, jacket, etc. In fact, the main thing you should focus on when choosing the color of tights is the color of your shoes. The color of the tights should match the color of the shoes as much as possible and not create a bright contrast that visually divides the legs horizontally, thereby shortening their length. The color of the tights should not be darker or lighter than the color of the shoes. This means that light shoes imply light tights, and dark ones – dark ones. Let's look at specific examples.

1. White dress + nude pumps we combine it with nude tights (although ideally this option does not involve tights at all). Flesh-colored tights should not be thicker than 20 denier, they should be matte, i.e. made from round threads, the color should match the color of your skin as closely as possible. You should not buy tights in the color of a “southern tan” if you have porcelain white skin - it will look unnatural and even cheap. Flesh-colored tights can be worn with light-colored shoes (NOT SANDALS) in the summer, when the dress code requires this.

2. White dress + black pumps I suggest wearing with black thick or transparent tights or without tights. If you have flawless, slender legs, you can easily afford thin black tights (up to 30 den). I do not accept the combination of nude tights and black shoes; It looks not only gross, but also old-fashioned, so if you prefer a bare skin effect, don't wear tights at all. If you want to slightly camouflage your legs, then a win-win option is black opaque (opaque and non-shiny) tights. Thick matte black tights are my winter favorite. They go perfectly with any winter clothes and suede shoes. I do not recommend combining thick matte tights with patent or leather shoes; this combination looks inelegant. Also, thick tights should not be worn with a knee-length pencil skirt - this will “weight” the lower part of your figure.

3. White dress + red pumps we combine it not with black translucent, but with nude tights. In this case, the contrast between red and beige is much less than the contrast between black and red, so we choose the lesser of two evils.

If you have colored shoes: burgundy, green, gray, chocolate, etc., it is not necessary to strive to choose tone-on-tone tights. Under any colored shoes, you can wear translucent matte tights in black, coffee or smoky color up to 20 denier, which will not contrast with the color of the shoes. I recommend always having neutral colored tights in your wardrobe; they go with almost any outfit.

An important nuance in choosing tights is also their density . In addition to their main thermal function, tights also have a camouflage property. Therefore, the density of tights depends on the condition of your legs. Thick tights - from 50 denier - camouflage both the thickness and flaws of the legs: veins, bruises, etc. And thin tights - up to 20 denier - are recommended to be worn by girls with perfect legs. The density also depends on the shoes you wear under the tights. Examples of optimal combinations are given below. Shoes, as a rule, involve transparent and translucent tights. The exception is suede shoes, which go perfectly with thick matte tights. Ankle boots look great with thick tights, although some sleeker styles can also be worn with sheer tights. Boots should only be worn with thick tights; the combination of boots and translucent tights not only visually shortens your legs, but also looks quite vulgar.

Light matte tights - although not the easiest option for combining with clothes and shoes, they have the right to be present in the wardrobe of an adult girl and woman. This option is especially good for complementing multi-layer sets in light colors made of knitted fabric. Also, such tights can be worn under light chiffon and silk dresses and tunics in combination with light suede boots. Of course, light-colored tights require light-colored shoes, preferably boots, so that only a small part of the legs in the tights is visible.

Colored matte tights are one of the riskiest options. If you do purchase colored tights, I recommend starting by introducing them into your outfit as a small accent, for example with a midi skirt or high boots so that a very small portion of the leg in the tights is visible. If you want to experiment, add colored tights to a monochromatic outfit: black, gray, brown. Avoid “screaming” colors of tights: yellow, bright blue, red. Tights in petrol, eggplant, emerald or burgundy look stylish. Shoes also need to be selected as closely as possible to match the tights, so as not to create obvious contrast and not turn the image into a fancy dress.

Openwork and fantasy tights - an option for “advanced fashionistas”, because There are no rules for combining them with clothes and shoes; you can only trust your own sense of taste and intuition. But like colored tights, you can minimize the risk that you will “get into trouble” with fishnet and fancy tights by minimizing their presence in the set. Wear these tights with skirts and dresses that are at least knee-length, or with high boots. In the case of tights with an active pattern, choose monochrome clothes (plain, any color).

Please note - openwork and fancy tights, as well as bright colored ones, do not fit into the format of the business dress code. For an office wardrobe, choose tights that are neutral in color and texture without glitter.

Whatever set you choose, remember - the image is flawless when every detail in it is flawless. Think over your look in advance, try on the entire set, including shoes, and then start choosing the most optimal model of tights. When leaving home, don’t forget to take a spare pair with you to be sure that nothing will interfere with your stylistic triumph, even an unexpected “accident” in the form of an arrow on your stockings.

Share in the comments what kind of tights do you like to wear?

Tights are a woman’s best friend; not a single woman’s wardrobe is complete without them. They have long ceased to be just a beautiful addition to a woman’s appearance. Modern tights perform many functions: they correct skin color, shape of legs and figure, and also protect from the cold. Some women can boast of having tights with a massage and healing effect.

All tights are divided into two types: classic and fantasy. Classic tights include products in black and flesh colors. All other variety, including different colors, textures, designs, refers to fantasy tights.

Each woman approaches the choice of tights, in particular fantasy ones, individually. When choosing a particular pair, she most often relies on personal preferences, body shape and clothing.

Product-test experts have come to help you understand the choice of classic tights.

How to choose tights?

Density

The first thing that ladies most often pay attention to when buying tights is the amount of DEN (or DTEX) indicated on the package. DEN is the mass of a thread of a certain length, and not the content of lycra (elastane). So, for example, 40 DEN means that the tights are made of thread, 9 km of which weighs 40 g.

There is a common misconception that the amount of DEN in tights affects the tightness and transparency. In fact, whether tights are sheer or not depends on the fiber. For example, there are opaque tights 40 DEN and transparent tights 70 DEN.

Size

You don't have to know your exact size. Almost every package of tights contains a convenient sizing chart, which you can use to choose the size based on your height and weight. We do not recommend that you choose tights of a smaller size, as they will press, slip, and tear faster.

Compound

As a rule, to make classic tights, chemical fibers - polyamide and acrylic - are used as a base, and elastane gives them good elasticity and strength.

Elastane is known by several names: Lycra (a DuPont brand), spandex (the name used in the USA and China) and Dorlastan (a Bayer brand). Elastane threads replaced rubber threads in the late 1950s. They are thinner, more durable, and are not susceptible to sweat, sebum and synthetic detergents.

  • 3-5% - elastane is contained only in the belt.
  • 10-21% - elastane is distributed over the entire surface, which means the tights are suitable for everyday wear.
  • 25-30% - in corrective, shaping tights. Due to their high elastane content, they are able to tighten the stomach, support rounded parts, and visually reduce weight. Ladies, please note: corrective and slimming tights often impede blood circulation, so they are not recommended for everyday wear.
  • 40% and above - such a high content can only be found in medicinal tights, which are sold in specialized stores and pharmacies.

In addition to elastane and polyamide, the product may contain natural fibers - cotton, wool, which make the tights warmer. If the declared cotton content does not exceed 3%, all the cotton is concentrated in the gusset.

A gusset is a diamond-shaped piece of fabric that joins two stockings. It reduces the load on the middle seam, ensures product strength, greater width and hygiene.

Another feature that directly depends on the composition of the tights is shine. The elastane content does not affect the shine of tights in any way. Whether the tights will shine depends on the properties of the polyamide fiber. Matte tights use polyamide threads of a special structure that scatter light.

Color

As a rule, classic tights come in black and nude colors. You must remember that black tights visually slim and lengthen your legs. However, we advise you to be careful, since black tights do not suit every outfit, and can also highlight not only advantages, but also disadvantages.

Nude tights will go with almost any office or casual outfit. By choosing between nude shades, you can achieve different effects: tan for pale legs in spring or foundation to hide minor skin imperfections. In such cases, experts advise using tights that are a tone or two darker than your skin.

Season

One of the main criteria for choosing tights is their warmth. Light tights 8-20 DEN are usually worn in the summer and in rooms where it is unacceptable to appear with bare legs. 40 DEN - medium option, for spring and autumn. For the cold season there are very from 70 to 400 DEN, which are often woven with the addition of cotton, wool and acrylic.

Microfiber is increasingly being included in tights. Microfiber is a fiber consisting of several dozen threads. It makes tights warmer and more pleasant to the touch.

Convenience

To increase durability, good tights are equipped with padded toes and heels. The toe is one of the most vulnerable parts of tights, especially if you wear them with high heels.

A gusset is another attribute of good tights. Without this small detail, they fit worse, can rub and wear out faster. A good gusset is made from cotton, while simpler models are made from the same fiber as the tights themselves. The most budget tights do without this detail.

Convenient flat seams make the tights more comfortable and invisible under clothing. Many models are still sewn with voluminous round seams, which creates great inconvenience for women. They rub delicate skin, leave marks on the legs and show through under tight dresses.

What should you pay attention to?

As a rule, tights are very short-lived, so they end up being a very expensive purchase. Advice from our experts will help you choose comfortable and high-quality tights.

Explore the packaging:

  • The packaging must be new, and most importantly, of high quality. It should indicate the manufacturer, composition, density, color, care recommendations.
  • Study the composition of tights. The optimal elastane content is 8-20%. Tights containing more than 20% elastane will visually tighten the figure, but can impede blood circulation and are not suitable for everyday wear, and less than 5% keep their shape worse.
  • As a rule, on the packaging you can see illustrations of the structural features of tights: the presence of a gusset, shorts, padded toe or heel, massage effect, and others.

You can take a look inside the package:

  • What the packaging doesn't tell you about is the seams. Even if the manufacturer claims that the tights have comfortable seams, this may not be the case. We recommend that you examine them by touch. Good seams, when stretched, practically merge with the main surface.
  • The aroma will tell you about the quality of the product. A “chemical” smell may indicate low-quality fiber.
  • After opening the package you can inspect the belt. It’s good if the tights have a wide belt: it will prevent them from slipping, curling and will gently tuck in your belly.
  • You can also find out which tights are matte or shiny by looking inside the package. This is an important point; many girls prefer to wear only matte tights, but not all manufacturers inform about this property of the fiber on the packaging.

Rules of care

It’s so nice to find beautiful tights that are comfortable and match the color and texture. It is very disappointing to part with a favorite pair of tights after one or two wears due to holes or puffs. Want to extend the life of your tights? Pay special attention to proper care of them.

Most often, tights tear while they are being put on. Long or sloppy nails, rings and bracelets can cause lines on tights.

It is advisable to wash tights by hand at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. However, machine washing is also possible, but in a special bag and without the use of bleaches and brightening detergents.

You need to dry your tights away from the sun and hot radiators, otherwise this may have a bad effect on their elasticity.
