Ivan Pavlovich Bagryany(ukr. Ivan Pavlovich Bagryaniy; real name Lozovyaga or Lozovyagin, Ukrainian Lozov "yaga, Lozov" yagin; -) - Ukrainian prose writer, poet, publicist, playwright, political figure.

Youth

During the Civil War and in the early 1920s, he was involved in Soviet socio-political work, but in 1925 he left the ranks of the Komsomol. Since 1926, he began to engage in literary activities (debut in the Kiev magazine "Globus"), joined the group "MARS", where he became close to E. Pluzhnik, G. Kosynka, V. Pidmogilny. Published in “Globus”, “Vsesvit”, “Life and Revolution”, “Chervoniy Shlyakh”, etc.

Arrests, imprisonments

In 1920 - 1930, Ivan Bagryany participated in the activities of the literary association “Workshop of the Revolutionary Word”. On April 16, 1932, he was arrested in Kharkov on charges of “conducting counter-revolutionary agitation” in his literary works, such as the poem “Ave Maria” (1929), the historical novel “Skelka”, the poems “Tin”, “Vendee”, “Gutenberg” , social satire “Batig”. Spent several months in solitary confinement in the internal prison of the OGPU. On October 25, 1932, he was sent to a special settlement in the Far East for 3 years. He tried unsuccessfully to escape, his sentence was extended by 3 years, but he had to serve it in the BAM camp.

Emigration

In 1945, even before the defeat of Nazi troops, Bagryany emigrated to Germany through the OUN.

After the war, I wrote a brochure “Why don’t I want to go back to the USSR?” (“Why don’t I want to return to the USSR?”), where he outlined a political declaration on behalf of a former ostarbeiter and prisoner of war. In the pamphlet, the USSR was presented as a “stepmother” motherland that committed genocide against its own people. In 1948, Bagryany founded the Ukrainian Revolutionary Democratic Party (URDP). From the same year until his death, he edited the newspaper “Ukrainian News”, where he collaborated with F. P. Pigido. He headed the executive committee of the Ukrainian National Council, and was deputy to the “president of the UPR in exile” S. Vitvitsky.

Excerpt characterizing Bagryany, Ivan Pavlovich

Then, when the smoke covered the entire field, in this smoke two divisions moved (from the French side) on the right, Dessay and Compana, on fléches, and on the left the regiments of the Viceroy to Borodino.
From the Shevardinsky redoubt, on which Napoleon stood, the flashes were at a distance of a mile, and Borodino was more than two miles away in a straight line, and therefore Napoleon could not see what was happening there, especially since the smoke, merging with the fog, hid all terrain. The soldiers of Dessay's division, aimed at the flushes, were visible only until they descended under the ravine that separated them from the flushes. As soon as they descended into the ravine, the smoke of cannon and rifle shots on the flashes became so thick that it covered the entire rise of that side of the ravine. Something black flashed through the smoke - probably people, and sometimes the shine of bayonets. But whether they were moving or standing, whether they were French or Russian, could not be seen from the Shevardinsky redoubt.
The sun rose brightly and slanted its rays straight into the face of Napoleon, who was looking from under his hand at the flushes. Smoke lay in front of the flashes, and sometimes it seemed that the smoke was moving, sometimes it seemed that the troops were moving. People's screams could sometimes be heard behind the shots, but it was impossible to know what they were doing there.
Napoleon, standing on the mound, looked into the chimney, and through the small circle of the chimney he saw smoke and people, sometimes his own, sometimes Russians; but where what he saw was, he did not know when he looked again with his simple eye.
He stepped off the mound and began to walk back and forth in front of him.
From time to time he stopped, listened to the shots and peered into the battlefield.
Not only from the place below where he stood, not only from the mound on which some of his generals now stood, but also from the very flashes on which were now together and alternately the Russians, the French, the dead, the wounded and the living, frightened or distraught soldiers, it was impossible to understand what was happening in this place. For several hours at this place, amid incessant shooting, rifle and cannon fire, first Russians, sometimes French, sometimes infantry, sometimes cavalry soldiers appeared; appeared, fell, shot, collided, not knowing what to do with each other, screamed and ran back.
From the battlefield, his sent adjutants and orderlies of his marshals constantly jumped to Napoleon with reports on the progress of the case; but all these reports were false: both because in the heat of battle it is impossible to say what is happening at a given moment, and because many adjutants did not reach the real place of the battle, but conveyed what they heard from others; and also because while the adjutant was driving through the two or three miles that separated him from Napoleon, circumstances changed and the news he was carrying was already becoming incorrect. So an adjutant galloped up from the Viceroy with the news that Borodino had been occupied and the bridge to Kolocha was in the hands of the French. The adjutant asked Napoleon if he would order the troops to move? Napoleon ordered to line up on the other side and wait; but not only while Napoleon was giving this order, but even when the adjutant had just left Borodino, the bridge had already been recaptured and burned by the Russians, in the very battle in which Pierre took part at the very beginning of the battle.
An adjutant who rode up from a flush with a pale, frightened face reported to Napoleon that the attack had been repulsed and that Compan was wounded and Davout was killed, and meanwhile the flushes were occupied by another part of the troops, while the adjutant was told that the French had been repulsed and Davout was alive and only slightly shell-shocked. Taking into account such necessarily false reports, Napoleon made his orders, which either had already been carried out before he made them, or could not and were not carried out.
Marshals and generals, who were at a closer distance from the battlefield, but just like Napoleon, did not participate in the battle itself and only occasionally drove into the fire of bullets, without asking Napoleon, made their orders and gave their orders about where and where to shoot, and where to gallop on horseback, and where to run to foot soldiers. But even their orders, just like Napoleon’s orders, were also carried out to the smallest extent and were rarely carried out. For the most part, what came out was the opposite of what they ordered. The soldiers, who were ordered to go forward, were hit by grapeshot and ran back; the soldiers, who were ordered to stand still, suddenly, seeing the Russians suddenly appearing opposite them, sometimes ran back, sometimes rushed forward, and the cavalry galloped without orders to catch up with the fleeing Russians. So, two regiments of cavalry galloped through the Semenovsky ravine and just drove up the mountain, turned around and galloped back at full speed. The infantry soldiers moved in the same way, sometimes running completely different from where they were told. All the orders about where and when to move the guns, when to send foot soldiers to shoot, when to send horse soldiers to trample Russian foot soldiers - all these orders were made by the closest unit commanders who were in the ranks, without even asking Ney, Davout and Murat, not only Napoleon. They were not afraid of punishment for failure to fulfill an order or for an unauthorized order, because in battle it concerns what is most dear to a person - his own life, and sometimes it seems that salvation lies in running back, sometimes in running forward, and these people acted in accordance with the mood of the moment who were in the heat of battle. In essence, all these movements back and forth did not facilitate or change the position of the troops. All their attacks and attacks on each other caused them almost no harm, but harm, death and injury were caused by cannonballs and bullets flying everywhere throughout the space through which these people rushed. As soon as these people left the space through which cannonballs and bullets were flying, their superiors standing behind them immediately formed them, subjected them to discipline and, under the influence of this discipline, brought them back into the area of fire, in which they again (under the influence of the fear of death) lost discipline and rushed about according to the random mood of the crowd.

Napoleon's generals - Davout, Ney and Murat, who were in the vicinity of this area of fire and even sometimes drove into it, several times brought slender and huge masses of troops into this area of fire. But contrary to what had invariably happened in all previous battles, instead of the expected news of the enemy’s flight, orderly masses of troops returned from there in upset, frightened crowds. They arranged them again, but there were fewer and fewer people. At midday, Murat sent his adjutant to Napoleon demanding reinforcements.
Napoleon was sitting under the mound and drinking punch when Murat's adjutant galloped up to him with assurances that the Russians would be defeated if His Majesty gave another division.
- Reinforcements? - Napoleon said with stern surprise, as if not understanding his words and looking at the handsome boy adjutant with long, curled black hair (the same way Murat wore his hair). “Reinforcements! - thought Napoleon. “Why are they asking for reinforcements when they have half the army in their hands, aimed at the weak, unfortified wing of the Russians!”
“Dites au roi de Naples,” Napoleon said sternly, “qu"il n"est pas midi et que je ne vois pas encore clair sur mon echiquier. Allez... [Tell the Neapolitan king that it is not yet noon and that I do not yet see clearly on my chessboard. Go...]
The adjutant's handsome boy with long hair, without letting go of his hat, sighed heavily and galloped again to where people were being killed.
Napoleon stood up and, calling Caulaincourt and Berthier, began to talk with them about matters not related to the battle.
In the middle of the conversation, which was beginning to interest Napoleon, Berthier's eyes turned to the general and his retinue, who was galloping towards the mound on a sweaty horse. It was Belliard. He got off his horse, quickly walked up to the emperor and boldly, in a loud voice, began to prove the need for reinforcements. He swore on his honor that the Russians would die if the emperor gave another division.
Napoleon shrugged his shoulders and, without answering, continued his walk. Belliard began speaking loudly and animatedly to the generals of his retinue who surrounded him.
“You are very ardent, Beliard,” said Napoleon, again approaching the approaching general. “It’s easy to make a mistake in the heat of the fire.” Go and see, and then come to me.
Before Beliar had time to disappear from sight, a new messenger from the battlefield galloped up from the other side.
– Eh bien, qu"est ce qu"il y a? [Well, what else?] - said Napoleon in the tone of a man irritated by incessant interference.
“Sire, le prince... [Sovereign, Duke...],” the adjutant began.
- Requesting reinforcements? – Napoleon said with an angry gesture. The adjutant bowed his head affirmatively and began to report; but the emperor turned away from him, took two steps, stopped, returned back and called Berthier. “We need to give reserves,” he said, spreading his hands slightly. – Who do you think should be sent there? - he turned to Berthier, to this oison que j"ai fait aigle [the gosling that I made an eagle], as he later called him.
“Sir, should I send Claparède’s division?” - said Berthier, who memorized all the divisions, regiments and battalions.
Napoleon nodded his head affirmatively.
The adjutant galloped towards Claparede's division. And a few minutes later the young guard, standing behind the mound, moved from their place. Napoleon silently looked in this direction.
“No,” he suddenly turned to Berthier, “I cannot send Claparède.” Send Friant’s division,” he said.
Although there was no advantage in sending Friant’s division instead of Claparède, and there was even an obvious inconvenience and delay in stopping Claparède now and sending Friant, the order was carried out with precision. Napoleon did not see that in relation to his troops he was playing the role of a doctor who interferes with his medications - a role that he so correctly understood and condemned.

Color is a real miracle. Every person sees and experiences the world in colors. But there are only three main ones: blue, yellow, red. Other shades are obtained by mixing them. The “language” of flowers is not related to culture and race, it is international.

Warm and cool colors

These are conventions, but they help in cognition. For example, the sun is red at sunset, and yellow or orange during the day. These shades are associated with warmth, vitality, and joyful emotions. Or another example, the starry night sky and the sea seem cold to us and the blue color suits them most. also refers to but it is closer to warm and evokes different emotions in people.

Brightness or tone

This is the presence of different amounts of white or black in any color. Initially, red looks almost like black, and adding white to it, it gradually begins to lighten and becomes pink and then completely turns into white. Black color may also vary.

Hue

This concept also means color. All spectral colors are divided into primary colors, of which there are seven.

Between them are the so-called transitional colors and the one that is closest to the main one is called a shade. For example, between red and orange there are also tones that contain more of one color or another. The closest thing to red is its shade.

Origin of flower names

What color is crimson? In synonymous dictionaries it is bloody, red, scarlet, crimson, crimson, cherry, purple. In Church Slavonic it is red, scarlet, red.

There are two groups of paint or color designations: ancient, these are white and black; new, coming from foreign languages.

  • Crimson and crimson color. In one general word, gaff was used to describe red paint and its shades. The result was two names: crimson and crimson. The first is a bright pure red, the second is a thick red color.
  • Red. The scarlet color in Ancient Rus' was called red or scarlet, since the paint was prepared from a certain type of worms (worms). The Old Slavonic name for red is chermnoe, i.e. charming, beautiful. The root of this word, red, means something that undoubtedly pleases the eye - a red fellow, a beautiful maiden, a red sun.
  • Burgundy. Means dark red. The name was borrowed from the French language.

About leaves

In countries where there are four seasons, it is possible to observe an amazing phenomenon - the life cycle of leaves, starting from the appearance of a bud and up to the change of green foliage to a crimson color, and then yellow. By their appearance you can determine:

  • Is there enough nutrients supplied, including micro- and macroelements with water;
  • nutritional balance;
  • state of health of the plant.

For example, with an excess of acids supplied with water, a reddish tint forms along the edges of the leaves. During autumn leaf fall, trees and shrubs are freed from many harmful substances accumulated in the leaf plates. Their redness and yellowing is a clear sign of change. In the absence of light, the process of chlorophyll formation fades and the leaf loses its green color. It is during this period that yellow and orange pigments actively appear.

Some trees (wild grapes, aspen, maple) acquire a beautiful crimson leaf color. This transformation is made possible by the content of anthocyanin, which is dissolved in the aqueous liquid of the plant. At low ambient temperatures, its quantity increases, and the leaf blade acquires a brownish tint. The supply of nutrients during this period decreases significantly and gradually stops completely.

Crimson color: psychological characteristics

People prone to excitement and irritation cannot stand the color red for a long time; they reject it. Peace, relaxation and relaxation are found in other shades. For them, red is perceived as a threat, and not as their own power and strength. Rejection of scarlet may be associated with mental and physical exhaustion of the individual’s body, his general weakness.

Carrying out color tests on patients with cardiovascular pathologies made it possible to monitor the clinical manifestations of the disease and mental processes. An individual who has been under extreme stress for a long time and is approaching damage to the heart muscle or a heart attack because of it, chooses blue-green along with crimson-red.

This fact indicates strong tension. However, gray and brown tones indicate that the person is already suffering from exhaustion of the nervous system. He does not perceive the blue color, symbolizing peace. Red color has a stimulating effect. This tone is always present in cardinals. The banner of the Russian revolution is painted crimson. Red is domination, revolution.

One who is full of energy, vitality and endowed with a sense of self-worth feels powerful. It is these qualities that the color red symbolizes. However, the weak in front of the strong perceive him as a threat. Therefore, objects that indicate danger are colored red.

Red fire trucks and fire fighting equipment are perceived as a huge level of alarm. In this case, the effect of the crimson color manifests itself as irritating and subsequently causes excitement. At a traffic light, a red signal, warning the driver about the threat of a collision, forces him to stop.

  1. The black box or which is found on all aircraft is actually red. This coloring allows it to be detected more quickly in the event of a disaster.
  2. In a bullfight, the bull reacts not to the matador’s red cape, but to movement. He is unable to distinguish colors. The blood of the animal is not so noticeable against the red background.
  3. Country style uses a large number of muted colors. The interiors are made in colors close to nature: green, yellow, blue, soft pink and golden-crimson.
  4. Ancient Roman commanders painted their faces with red paint after winning a victory. And they did this in honor of Mars, the god of war.
  5. “Red Heart” is what they call an outspoken person in China.
  6. In eastern countries, all participants in the marriage ceremony dressed in red clothes.

Color therapy or color treatment

This science dates back to 1877. Scientists Babbitt and Pleasanton were researching the healing properties of color. Published scientific works have provided recommendations on the use of flowers in the treatment of various pathologies. It was recommended to use a crimson color for infertility, and a blue tint to treat disorders of the central nervous system.

In the nineteenth century, one of the German doctors discovered that red color dilates blood vessels, and blue color constricts them. Color is capable of emitting energy that must be used for the benefit of your health. The choice of clothing color depends on the psychological state of the individual. If a person feels tired in the early morning hours, then the choice is orange, red or yellow.

After a hard and stressful day at work, and an unstable psychological state, manifested by nervousness, irritability, in the evening there is a desire to dress in calm colors: green, light blue or dark blue. Our state, both mental and physical, requires such changes due to the fact that there is a connection between the physiological indicators of an individual and the colors that a person looks at.

The following chain occurs in the body. Dim, gloomy shades send few impulses to the endocrine system; accordingly, the synthesis of hormonal substances that have a direct impact on vitality decreases. The body's resistance decreases, chronic diseases worsen.

Avicenna also recommended wearing red clothes during illness or blues. Red - removes negative emotions, melancholy, has a stimulating effect on the functioning of muscles and internal organs. To lift the mood, it is often enough to put red napkins or place a red saucer.

A red woolen thread was tied around the bruise to relieve pain and speed up recovery. Crimson acts as an analgesic for pain in the spine, heals stomach ulcers, and treats inflammation of the external genital organs. The benefits of this color are evident in many vegetables and fruits. It is effective in the treatment of depressive disorders and depression.

Red shades are not recommended for sanguine and choleric people. It is advisable to wear clothes of this color for a short time. The energy of red color helps to defend your rights, ward off unpleasant experiences, achieve goals, and gives confidence.

Finally

What does the color purple look like? This is dark red with a lilac or bluish tint, deep red with a bluish tint, this is exactly what this color looks like through the eyes of artists. They have slightly different names of colors and their perception. For example, the word “hemorrhoidal,” fashionable at the beginning of the twentieth century, meant the red color of an unhealthy individual. In other words, crimson is a wide range of all shades of red.

And whoever is baptized seems to be cleansed both in accordance with the law and in accordance with the Gospel. With the law - since Moses sprinkled the blood of the lamb using a bunch of hyssop; in accordance with the Gospel - since Christ's clothes were white as snow when He showed the glory of His resurrection in the Gospel. The one whose sin is forgiven is whiter than snow.

About the sacraments.

St. Basil the Great

And come, and let us be exhausted, says the Lord. And though your sins be as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; Even if they are like scarlet, I will be as white as wool

In many places in Scripture we find similar expressions, as if God descends to judgment and places Himself on the same level as people. This is, for example, the following: The Lord Himself will come to judgment with the elders of the people and with their princes(Isa. 3:14). The same thing in Micah reads like this: hear the word of the Lord, the Lord says: Arise, judge the mountains, for the judgment of the Lord is against His people, and be content with His people. My people! What have I done to you, or how have I offended you, or how have I given you colds? answer Mi(cf.: Mic. 6, 1-3). And it is fitting that the judgment of God should not be violent, but, on the contrary, should have more in common with those trials that people have, and give the defendants room for justification, so that a person, seeing his case brought to clarity, and when punished, confirms irrefutable judgments God, agreeing that the punishment was imposed on him in all justice, and also during the pardon, saw that forgiveness was given to him according to law and order. Scripture presents this personified, not because the Judge will ask each of us questions or give answers to the judged, but in order to instill in us care and so that we do not forget to think about our justification. It is likely that by some unspeakable force, in a moment of time, all the deeds of our life, as in a picture, will be imprinted in the memory of our soul. And thus we will hear this: now having passed them by, advise them, against the face of Mi(Hos. 7, 2). And the books mentioned in Daniel (see: Dan. 7, 10), what else do they mean if the Lord does not awaken in human memory the images of everything that has been done, so that everyone remembers their deeds and so that we see why we are being punished.

Therefore, after being washed and cleansed from the filth of sin, having taken away wickedness from the soul in the sight of God, having ceased from evil deeds and received the knowledge of good works: having sought justice, delivered the wronged, judged and acquitted the widow, Israel is called to the competition, accepting the promise, that it will be white either like snow or like a wave. Thus, ablution in itself is not enough to bring the person being washed to the whiteness of snow or waves, but work and considerable care are needed; so that washing produces cleansing from impurity, and siru court And widow's justification They also deliver whiteness equal to the whiteness of snow or waves. For something else and scarlet may be pure, but not worthy of being made white. Since the crimson has a pale red color, and the scarlet is redder and completely red, the relationship of the former to snow, and the latter to a white wave, is noted. So, our sins are likened to the color red, because they are deadly to souls. And just as something that is repeatedly and thoroughly immersed in a dye solution receives a color that is more durable and indelible, while something that is painted lightly and no matter how it is has a color that fades and is easily washed off, so the soul, drunk with sin and having acquired the habit of evil, imprints in itself the irreducible and how would be a scorched sinful stain; and the soul, less and as if slightly in evil, is weaker colored and stained by sin, because in proportion to the sins the color comes out stronger or weaker. But why were snow and wave chosen as white substances for comparison? Because the wave, being white by nature, becomes even whiter through careful processing. Therefore, human life, by perfecting its natural benefits through asceticism, can achieve much greater success in virtue. Likewise, snow, in its essence being water, becomes white from the rising air, when the moisture, knocked down in the clouds by gusts of wind, is inflated into foam due to strong movement, and having hardened from cooling in the air and having received some coherence and heaviness, it rushes down by natural attraction . Likewise, the soul, having increased its natural benefits through its own asceticism and the assistance of the Spirit, at the righteous judgment of God is awarded lordship by the grace of God given to the saints.

Interpretation of the prophet Isaiah.

The great Physician of souls is ready to heal your weakness, this ready Liberator of not just your soul, but all souls enslaved to sin. These are His words, His saving lips prophesied.

Messages.

St. John Chrysostom

Then come and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins be as scarlet, they will be white as snow; if they are red as crimson, they will be white as wool

Then come and let us reason together, says the Lord.. It should be noted that everywhere among the prophets God does not demand anything more than the protection of the offended. So in another place, as in Micah, when the Jews say: “Shall I give him my firstborn for my transgression, and the fruit of my womb for the sin of my soul?” He adds: “oh man! It has been told to you what is good and what the Lord requires of you: to act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”(Mic. 6:7-8) . Also the prophet David says: “I will sing mercy and judgment; To you, Lord, I will sing"(Ps. 100:1) .

And come. He presented excuses in advance, then calls for trial; He taught in advance how they could get rid of the charges, and then demands an account, so as not to condemn them, who do not have a defense. And we'll be exhausted, he says, we will sue. In judging, He is both a defender and a doctor.

Further, wanting to show that even though we have done great deeds, we still need His love for mankind to get rid of sins, he says: though your sins be as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; takes completely opposite properties and promises to change one of them to the opposite.

If they are red as purple, they will be white as wool. The power of patronage for widows is great if it not only frees a soul, so defiled that it is as if covered with the paint of wickedness, from evil, but also makes it so bright.

Interpretation of the prophet Isaiah.

Therefore, even if you have fallen into all kinds of vices, tell yourself: God loves mankind and desires our salvation: If,- speaks, - Your sins will be like scarlet, but they will be white as snow; if they are red as crimson, they will be white as wool, that is, I will change it to the opposite state. Let us not despair: it is not as dangerous to fall as to lie down after falling; it is not as dangerous to be wounded as, being wounded, not to desire healing... I say this not to make you more careless, but to keep you from despair.

Discourses on 1 Corinthians.

And why do you adorn the body, while the soul remains neglected and covered with uncleanness? Why do you care not so much about the soul as about the body? After all, we should take even more care of her, but at least, beloved, we will have at least some care for her. Tell me: if someone asked you what you would rather want - to have a clean, healthy and beautiful body, and wear poor clothes, or to have an ugly and sick body, but walk in gold and flaunt decorations? Wouldn't you much rather want to have beauty in the very nature of your body than in the pomp of your clothes? Do you really want this in relation to the body, but in relation to the soul - the opposite? Having a disgusting, ugly and black soul, do you really think you can win anything through gold jewelry? Isn't this extreme madness? It’s better to turn these decorations inside and take away your soul with these necklaces. When they lie on the body, they serve neither its health nor its beauty. After all, they will not make either black white, or ugly - beautiful and plausible.

Conversations on the Gospel of John.

God does not refuse to defend himself before people, but cries out through the prophet: . And he not only defends himself and goes to trial, but also teaches us how to avoid condemnation. He didn't just say: “Come and let us be exhausted”, but showed us in advance what to say and what to do, and then dragged us to the trial. Listen to what the prophet said above. “Wash yourself [and] be clean, take away wickedness from your souls... learn to do good,... judge the orphan and justify the widow.”(Isa. 1:16–17) . And then he says: “Come and let us be exhausted, says the Lord”. I don’t want, he says, to take you (to trial) completely defenseless, but to provide you with the means to justify yourself. I call for accountability, and I want to sue you not to condemn you, but to spare you. This is what (God) says in another place: “You said before your iniquity that you may be justified”(Isa. 43:26) . You have a cruel and merciless accuser; warn him to take his place; stop his shameless lips.

Interpretation of the book of the prophet Isaiah.

If you see the multitude of your secret sins, this should not make you careless about your salvation, because your Lord can cleanse you and whiten your blackness. If sin has penetrated deeply into you, like paint into waves, then, according to what is written by the prophet (Is. 1:18), the Lord will make you white as snow. Only, sinner, forsake your iniquities, come to contrition for the sins you have committed before, and He will accept you graciously.

Blzh. Hieronymus of Stridonsky

Then come and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins be as scarlet, they will be white as snow; if they are red as crimson, they will be white as wool

If your sins are like crimson, they will become white as snow, and if they are red as scarlet, they will be white as fleece. The order of thoughts is remarkable: for it is not enough that he said: wash yourself, if you did not add, be clean (Isa. 1:16), so that after washing with water you have purity of heart, for Blessed ones are pure in heart, for they will see God(Matt. 5:8); when they receive purity of heart, they must remove evil from their thoughts, not in the eyes of people, but in the eyes of God, from Whom nothing can hide. In the words: stop doing wrong(Isa. 1:16), one hears the gospel: Behold, you are healthy: let no one sin, lest anything worse happen to you(John 5:14) . And so, moving away from vices, let him learn goodness and take care of justice, help the oppressed, support the orphan and the widow (Isa. 1:17), and if you do this, then the sins that were previously bloody like purple will be forgiven, and the deeds of murder and blood will be replaced by the garment of the Lord, made from the fleece of the Lamb (Rev. 7:14), which in the Apocalypse is followed by virginity shining with whiteness.

Is it any wonder if snow-white robes represent the Church?

Sermons.

For a person, it is necessary that the grace of God not only justifies the wicked, that is, makes him righteous from the wicked, rewarding him with good for his evil, but also that, when he is already justified by faith, he lives with this grace and leans on it, so as not to fall. Therefore in the book Song of Songs about the Church itself it is written: Who is it that ascends white, leaning on his beloved?(Song 8:5) ? The one that cannot become white by itself is whitened. And by whom is it made white, if not by Him who speaks through the prophet: Though your sins be as scarlet, they will be as white as snow? So, she did not deserve the fact that she was whitened by any good, but having become white, she already lives in goodness, if only she constantly relies on the One by whom she was whitened. Therefore Jesus Himself, on whom the white woman leans, said to His disciples: You can't do anything without Me(John 15:5) .

Art. 18-20 Then come and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins be as scarlet, they will be white as snow; if they are red as crimson, they will be white as wool. If you want and obey, you will eat the blessings of the earth; But if you deny and persist, the sword will devour you: for the mouth of the Lord speaks

Only with such active and sincere repentance can the Lord allow Jewish sinners to come to Him and sort out their case with them. Their conscience will, of course, torment them terribly; they will reach despair, remembering the crimes they have committed, and God therefore calms them with the hope of the opportunity to receive forgiveness from any, even the most serious, sin.

Bagryanytsya according to euro schantm from the word schani. This was the name given by the Jews to a thick red paint obtained from the testicles of a mollusk that was found in abundance along the shores of Phenicia and in the Mediterranean Sea in general. Only the Phoenicians knew the secret of preparing this paint.

Purple according to euro tofe also means red paint. Both of these synonymous expressions serve as symbols of blood, with which, as stated above, the hands of the Jews were stained, and together indicate their strong sinfulness, which cannot be healed in the same way that purple or crimson dye cannot be washed off from fabric.

Snow And wave(sheep's wool, completely white) - symbols of purity, which among all peoples was symbolically indicated by the white color of clothes (cf. Ps. 50:9; Dan. 7:9).

You will eatthe sword will devour. There is an obvious play on words here: either the Jews will eat the fruits of the earth or they themselves will be devoured by the sword, which, as they say, eats into the body of the one on whom it falls (Deut. 32:42).
