You should not choose a dark shade - it will poorly paint over strands that were previously highlighted.
The best option is a shade 2-3 shades lighter than your natural hair color.
You cannot dye your hair with henna or basma after highlighting: you may end up with a green or purple tint that will be difficult to remove.
