Volumetric postcards are made by many handicraft lovers, because they are the ones who create the most detailed and voluminous surprise inside. This is the easiest card to make, which may even require only paper and a little imagination.

As you can see, such a postcard can be made with your own hands. You cannot use ordinary office glue to secure the decorations. Well, then it’s a matter of imagination - you can select a wide variety of illustrations for the postcard: flowers, hearts, wedding rings and other wedding-themed drawings.

For decorations, you can use paper or fabric of various textures, which will suit your taste. If you decide to use flowers to decorate a card, you can also make them yourself. To do this, it is better to use fabric rather than paper - this way it will be easier to straighten them if you slightly wrinkle the postcard. And so that fabric flowers do not wrinkle, you can starch it.

Scrapbooking

This is an incredibly beautiful creation that amazes with its uniqueness and originality. To create “Happy Wedding Day” greeting cards in scrapbooking style, you will need a little more effort, skill and patience.

To create such an incredible and unique card, you will need:

• Blank (base) approximately 15×15 cm in delicate color
• Two sheets of scrap paper
• Feather, small flower, lace, ribbon
• Stationery glue, thread and needle, double-sided tape, sharpened pencil and ruler.

From the first half-transparent scrap paper you need to cut out two flags (one longer and the other shorter). Tie a small bow tightly from the ribbon.

Do not cut off the piece of lace until you gather it together with a needle. This must be done using thread and needle.

Now we use the second sheet of scrap paper for the base - onto it a little to the left and below the center we carefully glue the cut out flags side by side.

Place a feather on top of the left flag and then carefully glue the gathered lace. It is better to sew it, so it will be more securely attached.

To the right of the feather we glue a clay flower. A little to the left and lower from the feather we glue a flower onto the lace, and to the right we glue a bow onto the lace. All this finished beauty now needs to be glued to the base and that’s it. The miracle postcard is ready!

Postcard - shirt

Origami is a long-known type of needlework in which all you need to create creativity is paper. And for our shirt card, you will also only need paper with beautiful colors.

So, you need one sheet of paper, which you will need to fold in half along the long side and repeat the procedure again to make four bends. Now unfold the paper.

Place the paper with the right side facing down, and fold two small corners on top. Now fold the part of the sheet with the corners towards you so that the folded edge intersects with the bending lines of the corners.

Next, you need to fold two ribs in the central direction to make sleeves. The collar of the postcard shirt is made from the other end of the paper. Fold the edge of the sheet from below so that the length of the collar is half the length of the sleeve.

Next, turn the card-shirt over and fold the corners of the collar. The final touch is to fold the card in half crosswise so that the collar and sleeves are in place. For decoration, you can also sew or glue buttons, a bow tie, or a tie.

How to sign a wedding card or invitation card

Having made a unique card for the bride and groom, many guests do not know what words are best to express their wishes. The card should complement the gift, so you shouldn’t think that once you put money in a purchased card, you don’t have to think about the signature.

If you decide to give money, then a postcard in the form of a “Savings Book” will not only be exclusive, it will bring a lot of pleasure to the newlyweds and guests.

If your card is complemented by a gift, and not money, then it must be signed in accordance with the rules of polite etiquette. First, ask yourself what kind of relationship you are in with the bride and groom. The exact emotions in which you can sign the postcard will depend a lot on this.

Let's say that distant friends and acquaintances do not have to write anything in a postcard - usually wishes are already written in purchased postcards. But close friends and relatives need to not just sign a postcard, they need to express in writing exactly those warm, sincere and friendly wishes.

This text should begin with:

• My beloved
• My dears
• My good ones and so on.

After such words, be sure to address the bride and groom separately. And after finishing writing the wishes at the bottom of the postcard, the author must write who the postcard is from with the words:

• From the heart
• Best wishes
• Always yours and so on.

It is very important to sign a wedding invitation card correctly and in accordance with wedding etiquette. To do this, remember and consider the following tips:

Several ideas for designing invitations

Usually the bride and her bridesmaids prepare wedding invitations.

Nowadays it is fashionable to organize themed wedding ceremonies that correspond to any style, for example, Provence, rustic, Tiffany.

For a wedding in more classic style The card can be decorated with lace or satin ribbons. Decorations for postcards made using the technique look quite interesting quilling. Quilling is the art of creating appliques using thin strips of colored paper rolled into rolls.

Flowers glued together from such rolls are very beautiful: pink or blue “petals” flattened on one side (a “drop” shape), green oblong “leaves” (an “eye” shape), round yellow “centers”.

Using the quilling technique, you can create two swans with their beaks touching: make the “torso” from teardrop-shaped rolls, glue two beautifully curved necks in the shape of a heart, and write the invitation itself in the “heart.” Above such a picture you can glue a crown cut out of gold foil.

Naturally, you need to write the invitation in calligraphic, but as old-fashioned handwriting as possible: elaborate, with a lot of curls.

Look beautiful on homemade cards and artificial flowers on fabric or paper basis. The centers of the flowers can be decorated with pearls or rhinestones.

A homemade envelope for a postcard does not have to be paper: a beautiful fabric bag tied with a satin ribbon will do. The color of the bag can be any, but soft, pastel colors are preferable: pink, lavender, lilac.
For a Tiffany style wedding, the bag must be turquoise.

It is considered a rule of good manners if the invitation is in the same style as the entire wedding.

DIY wedding cards for newlyweds

Usually such cards are made folding: on the cover there is a drawing or appliqué (you can supplement them with a short wish, for example, “Congratulations!” or “Happy Wedding Day!”), and inside there is a detailed wish, often in poetic form. One of the parts of the postcard is folded inward in the form of a wallet, in which you need to invest money.

Artificial flowers made from satin ribbons look beautiful. The folded colored ribbon resembles a rose. The center of an artificial flower can be fixed with a bead, pearl or rhinestone. Flower arrangements can also be created from beads strung on threads.

To decorate the outside of a homemade postcard, simple cross stitch on canvas is also suitable.

A non-standard “envelope” for a postcard has chest view. It is easy to make from cardboard: cut out the sides, bottom and lid, make holes in them with an awl or gypsy needle, sew them, seal the seams with decorative tape, decorate the front and lid with an applique of satin ribbons.

Rich, rich colors will look good on white cardboard: red, blue, green. You can put money and a postcard in such a chest. A larger chest will easily solve the eternal problem that arises at weddings: it is very convenient to put all the invitations and donated money into it.

As you probably already guessed, the theme of our master class is a DIY postcard for your wedding anniversary. What should be special about such a card? How should it differ from ordinary greeting cards and how to make it. We will discuss these questions in today's article.

DIY wedding anniversary card - master class

To answer the above questions regarding the fundamental differences between such postcards, I took the liberty of starting our conversation with theory. It seems to me that when the creation process is still far ahead, and all your thoughts are occupied with the idea, then the work in the future often turns out to be much more thoughtful, interesting and complete. In any case, this is exactly what happens to me.

When I think about my customer in advance, about his way of thinking and his lifestyle, the products look much more organic on him. Therefore, I will try to analyze the finished postcard from Svetlana and try to highlight for myself some key points that make this postcard so dear and warm to me personally.

What should be special about such a card?

I have already mentioned once that postcards created using the scrapbooking technique have a special homely warmth. And our card today is no exception. Made in the retro or vintage style beloved by many scrapbooking connoisseurs, it seems so warm, soulful... and smells very tasty of coffee.

All these features are not accidental. They were thought out and determined in advance. And this is precisely what should distinguish, in my humble amateur opinion, all handmade postcards. They should not be made in a standard way, as if they had just come off the assembly line. They must have a "soul". And even more precisely, they must be able to touch the souls of those for whom they are intended.

Therefore, if we are talking specifically about cards for a wedding anniversary, then in such cards it is worth taking into account those moments that distinguish this or that particular couple from all other couples. Perhaps these will be their favorite colors. Or a style of clothing that can be very interestingly used in the decor of a postcard. Or it could be their favorite things, objects, smells.

So, in this case, Svetlana chose very deep colors - dark green and wine, additionally shading it around the edges. And I can admit with a smile on my face that these are really my colors. They suit me very well and I have items in these shades in my wardrobe.

A black and white family photo in an aged frame and a well-chosen phrase hint that the couple for whom the card is intended already has some kind of journey behind them. These are not newlyweds. This is an established family and, judging by the inscription, quite happy. I smile again, but analyzing, affecting myself personally, is quite funny. It gives the impression that you are a braggart.

I will dwell on two more very characteristic details - a piece of photographic film and the aroma of coffee. The smell of coffee is the smell of my husband and his favorite drink. Photographic film can actually carry two completely different meanings, in my opinion. And I can’t even imagine what exactly Svetlana put into her.

Well, first of all, my husband is a photographer. And film is a fairly long part of his life. The entire period of his life that preceded the appearance of numbers in the photo industry. Well, secondly, photographic film is always a story. Especially for people of my time and older. Each family always had several huge albums with a great variety of photographs of different sizes - from 3x4 to 20x30 cm.

Moreover, among the photographs there were very often negatives that were never printed. Those. photographic film is an integral part of family life, in my opinion. This is a modest witness to all significant events of each individual family.

These are the most significant signs that define this postcard as a postcard specifically for our family. Let me briefly go over the main ones again:

• an inscription reflecting the general mood of the event
• color spectrum
• details (photos, film)
• aroma

But of course, all cards are different and families are also different. Therefore, in each specific case, your wedding anniversary card may contain some of its own characteristics and signs that allow you to identify it with a particular married couple. I just tried to determine guidelines that can be followed when developing the design of such postcards.

And now I present to your attention a detailed description of how to create our postcard. Apparently anticipating my interest in the master class, Svetlana decided to please me not only with a postcard, but also with step-by-step photographs, for which special thanks to her. Let's see.

List of materials for making a postcard

First, let's prepare the necessary materials and tools. I have prepared a list of them for you below. Much of the above can be replaced, but I will talk about this a little later. So, we will need:

• base for postcard
• scrap paper
• lace
• ribbon
• paper flowers
• glue, scissors, pencil, ruler
• inkpad
• black and white photography
• photo frame
• piece of film

Now let's talk about everything in order. Base for a postcard. Typically, such bases can be purchased in specialized stores and they can be of different sizes and densities. But you can easily make such a base with your own hands. To do this, just cut out a rectangle of the desired size from a regular sheet of Whatman paper or watercolor paper.

Scrap paper. You can also make it yourself by printing your favorite image on an office sheet. Of course, in terms of density, such a background will be seriously inferior to a purchased sheet, but if this is not possible, then this will be quite an option. Moreover, in the future we will glue these sheets onto a denser base.

You can also make a photo frame yourself by cutting it out of thick cardboard and painting it white. And even a piece of photographic film can be made at home. To do this, you just need to print a drawing with an image of this very film on a special transparent file intended for printing on a printer. Or... there is another interesting option, but I will talk about it below.

What, why and how - the process of creating a postcard with your own hands

We cut out two squares with sides 13x13 cm from scrap paper or homemade background paper. The dimensions, of course, may vary. But for a postcard measuring 13.5x13.5 cm, the dimensions for the background will be exactly as I wrote above.

We tear these sheets in several places and use sandpaper or a nail file to thin the edges to give it a shabby and aged effect. Next, we tint the edges of the paper with a stamp pad. We got two backgrounds to decorate the front and back sides of the postcard. We put them aside.

For the back side, we will additionally make something like a label, which will further emphasize the warmth and uniqueness of the finished card. On a small piece of paper that matches the tone of the base blank, we put a stamp or make a beautiful inscription by hand with the words “handmade”.

We sand the edges of the label with sandpaper (a nail file) and tint it with a stamp pad. Then we glue the label to one of the background parts.

The back side of the card is decorated, all that remains is to decorate the front side. To begin with, let’s attach the prepared decorative elements and figure out what, where and how it will lie. In other words, let’s think about the design composition.

Having found the most interesting location, we record it in our memory or on the camera and get to work. We first glue the background blanks themselves to the base of our postcard with glue, and then glue the photograph on top of the foreground.

The photo can initially be simply printed in black and white. Or it can be aged using one of the Photoshop tutorials and then scratched additionally for greater importance.

You will find a detailed video lesson on how to age a photo in Photoshop at the end of this article. In the meantime, I'll say a few words about how not to glue background images to the card base.

Try to apply glue pointwise and not a lot at all. So that after gluing the background remains movable around the edges. Then you can easily achieve the same effect of shabby, worn-out and aged - everything that distinguishes the Retro style from all other style solutions.

After all the preparatory work, we tint the lace in a strong coffee solution and glue it to a glue gun. On top, using the same glue gun, we attach a white aged photo frame. As I mentioned earlier, the frame was cut out of thick cardboard using a breadboard knife, painted white and slightly aged with craquelure.

We print an image of the photographic film on a sheet of printer film. Another option that can be used here is to print the image on a sheet of office paper, cut out windows from it and then paste it onto the transparent film in which bouquets of flowers are wrapped. It suits us perfectly both in terms of rigidity and thickness.

We cut out the printed film, insert a frame under the photo and glue it to a glue gun.

Now the flowers. We will need a few green leaves. They can be cut out of green cardboard and it is better if it is double-sided. We collect the leaves along a narrow green strip and get a beautiful lush twig.

Then we take a satin ribbon, tie it into a bow, drape it as desired and attach it over the branch. We decorate the top with a paper flower. By the way, I discussed it in detail in one of the previous master classes. Check it out, I’m sure you will really like it, and for your card you will make flowers exactly according to this description.

There is one last but very important touch left. We need to pick up the inscription. Remember, I said that the inscription, along with other points, is very important and should reflect the essence of the family for which the card is being prepared? For young couples, some inscriptions are suitable, but for older, mature couples, the inscriptions will be completely different. Although, by and large, of course, they should all talk about love, happiness, intimacy and the strength of family relationships.

After you have decided on the inscription, you need to print it on a printer, cut it out and tint it. Moreover, tinting can be carried out in two stages. First, you can tint the coffee, and then add the necessary highlighting touches using a stamp pad. As usual, we scratch the edges with sandpaper and additionally tint them with a pad. Ready. Feel free to glue it on.

All that remains is to write a congratulations. Now, thanks to the Internet, we have a very large selection of congratulatory lines in our arsenal, but remember that even the smallest addition in the form of your personal two sentences or 3-4 words can say much more than all the most beautiful ready-made congratulations in the world!
