Crochet square motifs bedspread patterns. Interesting crochet patterns. Motives for blankets. How to crochet a baby blanket

How nice it is when you can wrap yourself in a warm blanket that you knitted with your own hands. Such a thing gives a special warmth that comes from the very heart of the person who made it. A knitted blanket is a common decor for rustic-style interiors. However, it will look just as stylish and beautiful in rooms with a more modern finish. Knitting a blanket is not difficult, but the task is quite painstaking and not quick. Today I would like to show you a way to knit simple but quite effective motifs using the granny square technique and how to beautifully and simply weave them into a large bedspread.

To knit a large blanket from these motifs you will need:

Multi-colored yarn. Be sure to choose a color for the background.

Crochet hook of the desired number.

Scissors.

Crochet pattern.

We will knit motifs using a simple pattern - this is a fairly common “granny square”, which we will update with the help of color.

We knit a lot of beautiful squares using this pattern. We knit the first five rows alternating different colors, but we knit the last row on all motifs in the same color, which we chose for the background.

Laying out the motifs on the floor or table, we select the most successful color combinations and connect the motifs with each other.

We weave motifs together in a simple and beautiful way. We simply tie them with another row of double crochets, which we tie first to one motif, then to another. First, we cast on 3 lifting loops on one motif.

Then we begin to make a double crochet and knit it into the corner of another motif. We knit two more stitches into the same loop and knit exactly the same group of three stitches into the motif with which we started.

Then we knit a new group again into the second motif.

This way we get a beautiful binding, with the help of which we connect the motifs with each other.

We weave the remaining motifs in the same way. To make it more convenient to “assemble” the plaid, I advise you to first form long strips from one row of motifs sewn together, and only after that tie these strips together. This way it will seem to you that the work is moving faster and knitting such a voluminous fabric will be much easier.

In the same way as we connected individual motifs, we weave our long strips.

We begin to shape the blanket fabric until we achieve the desired size.

This is how we knitted a beautiful, delicate and moderately bright blanket from simple square motifs.

This blanket will decorate your home and warm you up during the cold season.

A beautiful and original combination of square motifs.

Schemes of various squares for creating your masterpieces.

For those who are not in the know, I inform you that in February of this year the project “Bedspread in a Year” was launched on the blog, the goal of which was to crochet a blanket over a long period of time. The key word in this phrase is to connect, i.e. bring the matter to an end...

It’s no secret that many people (and I’m no exception) sometimes accumulate a whole heap of unfinished items (unfinished products), which can be very difficult to bring to their logical conclusion. And the main reason for the accumulation of unknitted items, in my opinion, is that we simply get tired of knitting this or that thing, we get bored with it, because... The knitting process is by no means fast, and the item becomes uninteresting to us.

And so I thought, what if you plan your work so that it is not stressful to complete it and so that you don’t get bored.

So I planned...

Now I’m very happy – my plan worked! Here it is - my blanket! Perhaps some of you will find this experience useful...

How to crochet a blanket in a year - the story of my knitting

So, for the bedspread, it was decided to knit only 9 motifs per month (they are quite large), i.e. 2-3 motives per weekend...

Believe me, 2-3 motives in two days is very little...

Experienced knitters can easily crochet such a blanket in a couple of weeks...

But, since I don’t make a living in needlework, I’m in no hurry.

In addition, “against the background of knitting this large product,” completely different products will be born that will diversify my knitting...

And another important detail... I announced on the blog that I will not only be crocheting a bedspread from motifs, but will also, from time to time, report on the work done.

This ad was a good motivator. Because I gave my word to my readers - we must fulfill...

At first things were a bit difficult...

Having knitted somewhere around 18 motifs, it was a sin, I was thinking of giving up the idea of crocheting a bedspread and wanted to switch to something smaller (for example)…

But, suddenly, unexpectedly for myself, I forgot about this desire for a month and connected 9 more motives...

It turned out to be 27 - that’s a lot for a pillow, and 27 motifs - that’s almost a third of my knitted bedspread...

And immediately everything fell into place, i.e. it became clear that “there will be a veil!”

I also often laid out related motifs and admired them... imagining what beauty would turn out in the end, and this also helped in my work)))

How to knit a blanket using square motifs

It took me a lot of thread to knit this product...

And, to my shame, again I can’t say exactly how much...

The thing is that yarn is expensive these days...

Even the simplest thread, in such volumes, does not look cheap at all. Therefore, I ran to buy more yarn three times, probably, or even four...

And, in the end, I just lost count...

I can only say that for the crocheted bedspread I needed about two kilograms of “Ogonyok” yarn from the Troitskaya factory

  • Yellow – about 500 gr.
  • Orange – about 500 gr.
  • Dark brown – about 700 gr.
  • Light brown – about 300 gr.

and hook number 4

Speaking of hooks...

Durable and practical!

The knitted blanket consists of 88 square motifs with a flower in the middle, crocheted according to the pattern

You will find a detailed description of knitting this motif in the article.

In the same article, by the way, a promise was made to crochet a blanket in a year.

I also recommend that you look at the article, it describes how to hide threads during knitting. It’s better to do this right away... otherwise, the final stage of knitting the bedspread (assembling) can take a very long time...

A rectangle with sides 8*11 (motifs) is sewn from knitted motifs and tied around the perimeter with one row of single crochets (in the corner RLS + VP + RLS) and one row of connecting posts behind the back segment of the loop - I really like this technique, it gives the edge knitted product has a finished and neat appearance.

We combine motifs into a bedspread

One of the important questions seemed to be how to sew motifs for a bedspread...

Moreover, I wanted to combine the motifs in such a way that the seams would not be visible on either the front or back side of the product.

After several experiments of joining in different ways, I again settled on crocheting motifs using connecting posts.

Why? The answer is simple... Simple, fast, excellent appearance, there is a seam, but it is flat, in short, everything suits me...

How to crochet square motifs using connecting posts – Master class

Produces a flat joining seam

  1. Next, similarly as described in step 2, we attach, tie and sew the third square motif

Let me remind you that all this is done without tearing off the thread.

But the fourth motif cannot be attached in this way, so we tie it separately and sew it in according to the principle described in paragraph 3, but only two sides at once

  1. A total of 20 of these large squares were sewn. These squares can be immediately sewn into 4 strips of 5 pieces each, and then connect them and sew another strip sewn from 8 squares along the narrow side of the bedspread...

That’s the whole story about how I knitted for almost a whole year... and, most importantly, crocheted a blanket...

P.S. Friends, I really liked this experience... In short, I want to stir things up... All I have to do is choose what exactly I will knit)))

How many necessary and beautiful products can be made if you know how to knit or crochet! These can be simple hats and socks, or more voluminous items - a sweater or shawl. One of these things could be a children's blanket with a Hungarian pattern crocheted from squares, the knitting pattern of which is not very complicated and is easy even for a novice craftswoman.

Crocheting a blanket from squares requires following the following recommendations:

  1. The main property of knitting is that the squares are the same size. To do this, use a measuring tape.
  2. When choosing threads for knitting, pay attention to their structure and thickness. For a blanket measuring 90 by 140 centimeters you will need up to 1700 grams of yarn.
  3. Use threads of different shades - this will give your item uniqueness.
  4. Beginners should start knitting with crochet number 4 or 5.
  5. If you are knitting a blanket for a baby, use natural threads made from cotton or wool.

How to connect parts from squares to each other? Ornaments can be made in a straight line or in a circle. When working in a straight line, columns with or without capes are knitted on a chain of a certain number of chain stitches. At the end of each row, we turn the product and also knit it until we get a square blanket. You can take yarn of different colors. When knitting in the round, the first chain stitches are closed into a ring and knitted in columns in a spiral. A square mold is obtained by adding air loops in certain corners of the square.

Let's measure the length of the sides of the squares and calculate the required number to obtain a knitted blanket of the required size with a good motif.

Ready-made square motifs iron and prepare for sewing, don’t forget to choose a color transition for your grandma’s blanket.

When tying square motifs with a needle, the seam will be almost invisible if their final rows are knitted in the same way and in the same shade.

We will crochet all the sewn bedspread blanks with colorful thread - this will give your item a finished look.

Crochet granny square: patterns for blankets

One of the popular methods of knitting voluminous products is considered to be “Granny squares”, which many designers have recently used in their work. Let’s look at the pattern of the traditional “Granny Square Motif” used for knitting blankets.

Knitting technique:

  • We knit the square in columns with one crochet, starting from the central part.
  • The center of the square will be a sliding loop or a ring of three air loops.
  • During the entire work, do not turn the square over.
  • The transition to a new row is made in the corner of the square.

  • Special hook No. 3.5.
  • Sharp scissors.
  • Needle.

Crochet square patterns

A simple square for a blanket or shawl

Its beauty lies in tying an openwork border onto a classic base. You just need to connect such patterns using small motifs (crocheted) and squares. Their schemes are as simple as possible.

In a ring of five loops, tie 8 connecting posts. Eight chain stitches, two double crochets. Then repeat 5 chain crochets and two double crochets three times. Complete the row with another column and close it into the third air stitch of the first eight.

The next row starts with three stitches and two double crochets. Behind them are 5 airborne ones. The row continues with six double crochets. Two repetitions: 5 air and 6 columns. Again five chain and 3 double crochets, close the circle.

Last row of square: 3 chain stitches, 4 double crochets. Then 5 chain stitches and already 10 double crochets. Continue with two repetitions of 5 air and 10 columns. Complete the row with 5 chain stitches, 5 stitches and close it into the third chain stitch of the beginning of the row.

Now the openwork binding begins. The first is the “slide”: a connecting stitch, 4 chain stitches, 3 double crochets closed with one loop, 4 chain stitches and a connecting stitch in the last stitch of the previous row. After 6 connecting posts in the arch of air loops, tie two more such “slides” in a row. Repeat this pattern until the end of the row.

In the next row above the slide you need to knit: 3 air, connecting column at the top of the slide, 3 air, connecting at the base of the slide. The corners of the pattern are formed by three arches of three air loops and connecting posts between them.

For filling small squares. Knit 8 connecting posts into a ring of 5 loops. This is the first row. The second (also the last) will be formed by arches of 5 air loops, completed with single crochets.

Such motifs are connected in “slides”, and small squares are sewn in the voids between them.

Openwork round pattern

A ring of six loops is the basis of this crochet pattern. The motives may then be different. One of the options is presented below.

The first row needs to be filled with 15 alternating with one air. They will require 4 lifting loops. In the second row, at each chain and top of the column, work a single crochet. Here you will need 2 air planes for lifting.

The third row consists of a double crochet in every third stitch. They will need to be alternated with three air loops. The rise in this row is equal to three air moves.

In the fourth, each arch is the basis for four columns with two double crochets, finished with one loop. The space between them is filled with 4 air. Lifting - 3 loops.

Lifting - two loops. The fifth row is knitted with single crochets. The first arch is filled with the 5th, from the last one, cast on 11 air loops. Attach it to the first one and tie it with 18 stitches, making two loops for lifting. The next arch is knitted simply with five stitches. Alternate this pattern until the end of the row.

The last (sixth) row is filled with double crochets, and two chain stitches are knitted between them. Moreover, the columns need to be knitted only on eight petals. Moreover, at every second one at the top it is necessary to knit an arch of 10 air stitches, tying it with 18 single crochets.

One more square

Its pattern is the most common of those recommended for crocheting. The pattern may vary slightly, but the basis is the same: alternating double crochets and air stitches.

On a ring of 5 loops, knit the first row of the motif: 8 connecting posts. The second one starts from the corner. It consists of 6 chain stitches, a double crochet at the base of the cast-on chain. In the second column of the previous row, knit two double crochets and one double crochet between them. The third column will be the basis of the second corner, which is knitted from two columns and three air loops between them. In each even number, repeat the pattern described for the second, and in the odd number, for the third. This will create an angle.

Third row. Start - three lifting loops from the middle of the first corner. In the same arch: two double crochets. Air loop. Then there is a repeating pattern. Knit three double crochets into the side arch formed by one chain stitch. Air loop. In the corner arch: three double crochets, three double crochets, three double crochets. Air loop.

The fourth row is similar to the third, only you need to do 4 double crochets and do not make air stitches between them, except in the corners. There should still be 3 air elements in the very middle of the corner elements.

The last row of such a crochet pattern (the motifs continue) consists of connecting posts. Make a picot at each joint of column groups and the top of the corners. That is, knit three air loops and close them to the initial one. The motifs behind these picots are connected.

Triangular pattern

They are performed in the same way as they are knitted. You just need to work a little with the patterns. Namely, make sure that the sides are a little longer, and there are only three corners.

By the way, the filling of the corner patterns should be somewhat denser so that the pattern looks neater. Picot will need to be knitted only in the corners of the motif. Because the sides adjoin each other well even without them. Although they can still be done for airiness.

Pattern with three-dimensional flower

An excellent gift for a girl is a blanket made of squares, the basis of which are such motifs. Their patterns are simple, but the effect is amazing.

Start again in a ring of 6 loops. In the first row you need to make 8 groups, which are formed by five double crochets. Moreover, they need to be knitted from one base and closed with one loop. Knit one air loop between them.

The second row is the same groups, only you need to knit them twice as often. To the top of the previous one and into the air. So there will be twice as many of them.

The third row is necessary to create a square motif. First, knit the first corner: three loops, two double crochets, two loops, three double crochets - all this into one airy flower. The next one has two double crochets. Then two without a crochet. Continue knitting in the same way, gradually forming the remaining three corners.

Tie the square motif with single crochets. Make two air loops in the corners.

How to connect motives with each other

The easiest way is to sew them. But this is for beginner needlewomen. For those who have already become proficient in knitting motifs and finished products made from them, the crocheting option will be useful. This is how a blanket made from crocheted motifs (the diagram is presented in the article) looks neat.

In it you need to make double crochets, which you knit first in one element, then in another. Experienced craftswomen advise knitting several long strips first. Then connect them together.

Recently, knitted items have become relevant and popular in the interior again. Such products include crocheted bedspreads and blankets. Thanks to the use of materials of different structure and color, they fit perfectly into any interior style and will become its decoration. Despite the huge selection of ready-made bedspreads and blankets, they are easy to knit yourself.

  1. Such bedspreads and blankets have many advantages:
  2. They give a cozy, warm, welcoming and soulful atmosphere to the room.
  3. Exclusive items. Thanks to the abundance of yarn types, colors, and knitting patterns, finished products become unique.
  4. They are cheaper than buying ready-made ones.
  5. The resulting result fully corresponds to your needs and wishes - you choose the combination of color, pattern, yarn structure, size, etc.

Before you start crocheting a blanket or bedspread, you need to choose its design. The following must be taken into account:

Purpose of the product. For example, to use it as a decorative element, you don’t have to limit yourself in choosing yarn, knitting patterns and using decorative decorations: beads, rhinestones, ribbons, etc. If you plan to knit a warming blanket, then you should give preference to simpler knitting patterns and yarn from wool or cotton. If you need a universal blanket, you will have to find a compromise solution. There is no need to use beads or bulky knitting for blankets that sit on. Such bedspreads should not have bulky knitting, beads, etc.

Also, its size will depend on the purpose of the homemade blanket. For example, for a double bed you need a blanket approximately 220x240 cm, for an armchair - 130x170 cm, for a small sofa - 150x210 cm.

Color solution. It should be combined with the rest of the interior elements in color and style. For example, for a classic style, Scandinavian interior, calm colors, a combination of no more than 3 colors, are more suitable. If the plaid is intended for, then bright and contrasting colors will be very appropriate.

The structure of the fabric of a blanket or bedspread. It can be a single piece or consist of motifs.

Yarn for crocheting a blanket

Almost any yarn will work for a blanket. If you are still new to this, it is better to opt for a yarn that is easier to knit.

When choosing yarn you should consider:

Fiber type. There are many options for animal and plant fibers. For beginners, there are three simplest options, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages:

Wool. A great option for crocheting a blanket. Wool yarn is considered an elastic fiber that is “forgiving” of mistakes. However, remember that many people are allergic to wool. Cotton. A little more difficult to knit than wool, because... is not an elastic fabric. But for some products this is its advantage, since it holds its shape well. If you knit in the summer, then cotton yarn will be an excellent option, and cotton is lighter than wool. Acrylic. A popular fiber among crochet lovers. It is available in a variety of colors and is affordable. For beginner needlewomen, acrylic is the best yarn option. Only some of the cheapest acrylic yarns can present a bit of a challenge for beginners. If this happens, try switching to a different brand of yarn or wool or cotton yarn. Crocheting should be fun and not difficult.

Yarn density. When choosing yarn for a blanket, you need to take into account its thickness (weight). As a rule, it is indicated on the label (1-7). It is easier for beginners to start with medium weight yarn, which is indicated by the number No4 on the label. This is a good option. No3 and No4 are also acceptable, but may not be easy for beginners. Try knitting with different yarns. After all, every needlewoman has her own preferences. The main thing is that the size of the hook you use for knitting matches the weight of the selected yarn. Generally, recommendations for hook size can be found on the yarn labels.

Yarn texture. When starting to learn the basics of crocheting, it is preferable to use smooth yarn so that lint does not get into your eyes and does not interfere with your work.

Yarn color. At first, it is easier for beginners to work with light yarn, since it is difficult to see the seams on dark yarn.

Yarn cost. Yarn from different fibers, different brands, yarn can have a very wide price range. If you are a beginner, it is advisable to choose inexpensive yarns until you get very good at knitting. The best options in this case are wool and acrylic.

Footage. Different balls may contain different amounts of yarn. If you plan to knit a blanket with multiple colors, it is important for you to make sure that you have enough yarn of each color.

Washing instructions. When purchasing yarn, you should pay attention to the washing instructions, since they will also apply to the blanket knitted from it. Moreover, if you are going to use different fibers for one product, since different types of fibers may have different requirements for the mode, washing temperature, drying, etc. This information is usually indicated on the labels.

Obviously, there is nothing difficult in crocheting a blanket if you have a pattern. By collecting threads, having a little desire and perseverance, you can easily create your own little masterpiece for the comfort of your home.
