The next step is to prepare the side surface of the box. From the school course it is known that the circumference is equal to Pi * 2R. It is this length that you need to cut a strip of cardboard. However, for this it is necessary to draw another circle inside the circle prepared under the bottom of the box with the same center, but with a radius less than the radius of the workpiece for the bottom by about 1 cm.
The strip of cardboard intended for the side is folded into a roll. This is done carefully, kinks and crackling of cardboard are not allowed. The ends are either glued or taped together with inside. After that, it remains to glue the side wall to the bottom. But for this it is necessary to make small cuts along the entire length of the cardboard strip. Then they gently fold over. This provides a large surface of contact between the sidewall and the bottom, and hence the reliability of their gluing.
By the same principle, a narrow strip of cardboard is made, which subsequently, after giving it round shape, is glued to the circle intended to become the lid of the box. It is necessary to carefully choose an acceptable difference in the diameters of both strips (very small, depending on the thickness of the cardboard), otherwise the lid will “sit down” loosely on the box and begin to fly off it. When making a small gift round box it is convenient to use for the side surface and a neatly cut piece of a round tube, and a cardboard roller from under the towels.

How to make a square cardboard box

We transfer our original square or rectangle to the cardboard sheet and increase it on each side by a few millimeters. Then we make protrusions that will hold the lid on the box. Before you start gluing the lid, we fix the workpiece with paper clips and try it on the box. If the cover is too large, you will have to draw a new one.
