Suitcase. Vacation or business trip: how to pack your suitcase correctly

Packing for the trip is never easy. Sometimes they drag on for a week or even more. In this hustle and bustle, how can you not forget important things and not take too much? I am writing a reminder first of all to myself. And if it is useful to you, I will be glad :)

We do not carry 50 kg of luggage with us. In Asia, when traveling with low-cost airlines, it is very expensive to carry extra cargo with you. Everything we need for life fits into one 80-liter backpack (that’s about 20 kg). We check it in as luggage.

Two laptops, a camera, its accessories and other gadgets and documents are stored in a separate backpack - we take it in hand luggage.

Cloth

It's always warm in Southeast Asia. There are rainy seasons, but even during them the air temperature rarely drops below +20 degrees.

Feel free to put 2-3 in your suitcase t-shirts for each family member. It is advisable to choose those that wrinkle less. It’s also worth taking two pairs shorts. Lightweight will come in handy in bad weather trousers And windbreaker. By the way, it’s better to take one with a hood for riding a bike so that it doesn’t blow into your ears. Do not forget underwear And swimming trunks. If you are traveling for a long time, then stock up on body wear. In Asia, other standards of beauty and the shape of local bras, personally, made me despondent. In addition, in Vietnam, for example, they may simply not have your size, because a standard Vietnamese woman is about the same build as our 12-year-old girl.

For shoes, it will be enough to take closed ones sandals for hiking in the mountains or for cool evenings. Buy flip-flops locally - they cost pennies, but take up a lot of space in your suitcase.

Also, do not take blankets, towels and beach mats with you. All this will be either at the hotel or at the nearest trading stall.

If you want to take it with you dress for evening outings, choose one that will not drag along additional high-heeled shoes. It is desirable that it does not wrinkle and does not require ironing.

Do not forget hats. Especially children's ones. While an adult can still buy a scarf or a beach hat, children's Panama hats are in short supply in Southeast Asia. Although, you can always get out of it by tying a bandana on the baby’s head.

Put down your sunscreens glasses.

You should not take a lot of things for children. A couple of T-shirts, shorts, some pants and a jacket with long sleeve, 5-6 pieces of panties and swimming trunks. This is quite enough. If it turns out to be not enough, you can always buy something on the spot. Asia has excellent shopping. Surely, you will want to please yourself and buy your heir a bunch of new and colorful clothes. Personally, I get moral pleasure from this. In Vietnam we even had to send parcels home.

And from Thailand we brought home not only a backpack, but also two bags.

That's just with the right shoes not very good in Southeast Asia. Asians do not bother with arch supports, closed heels with good fixation and other requirements of orthopedists. Therefore, if you are going for a long time, stock up children's shoes. Two pairs of sandals different sizes enough. For trips to the sea, buy Crocs.

Gadgets

All sorts of electronic devices greatly simplify our lives. For example, on a plane cartoons in phone or laptop for parents it’s just a salvation. You need to pump it there in advance more films. Put camera. Do not forget charging from phones, photographic equipment and laptops. Also useful flash drives, memory cards And HDD.

Hygiene products

Dental brushes, small tube pastes, a couple of disposable bags shampoo. And also a small bottle of protective tanning products. Of course, you can buy it in Asia, but here it will have a whitening effect. For Asians, white skin is a sign of wealth and beauty. If you think that the child needs to be washed with something special, then take it special.

It’s better to take care of it in advance feminine hygiene during a special period in the month. If you use tampons, take them with you. In Asia they are in short supply and expensive. In Vietnam, I had a hard time finding a pack of Tampax; it cost $10.

Put manicure set. Its components can be useful for other economic purposes.

If you can’t imagine life without cosmetics, take it. But just a little. Just imagine your plastered face under the scorching sun of the tropics. Give your skin a rest and save space in your suitcase for something more essential.

But don’t take mosquito repellent sprays with you. Mosquitoes are different everywhere, so what is effective here may be completely useless in Asia.

Take diapers for the first day or two, until you buy local brands.

Medicines

All medications fit in our small cosmetic bag. I wrote about this and invite you to read it.

Baby supplies

Regarding whether to take it or not stroller- think for yourself. Please note that sidewalks in Asia are either narrow or non-existent. Therefore, there is no particular place to go. In addition, if you travel on a bike, then the need for a stroller disappears altogether. On the 2011-2012 trip we took a cane. But they used it for at most a week for 5 months. If you do take a stroller, don’t forget to put a mosquito net on it.

The most worthy alternative bulky stroller - this is an ergo-backpack. Even two or three year old children cannot walk for a long time without getting tired - they will definitely ask to be held. The weight of the child in such a backpack is distributed very evenly on the hips, back and shoulders of the parent. This is why we loved him.

Antibacterial gels, wet and dry wipes will be useful on the plane.

Documents and money

Passports, insurance, driver's license, children's birth certificate, diving certificates. We put all this in a backpack with hand luggage, and photocopies in the main backpack in the luggage compartment. If suddenly the originals are stolen, it will be easier to restore the documents if you have photocopies.

We do not carry cash with us, but withdraw it in local currency from ATMs using a card. We have several kartVisa and telebanking is turned on. If one card is lost, money from it can be transferred to another via the Internet. Just in case, we usually have about $400-500 cash to pay for visas and other unforeseen expenses.

To do before departure

Turn on roaming on your phone.

Give an extra set of apartment keys to your neighbor-friends in case the battery leaks.

Give photocopies of passports to close relatives.

Find someone who will collect and pay your rent receipts. Or figure out how to do it yourself on the Internet.

Download more movies, music and cartoons to your laptop and phone.

Warn the district police officer pediatrician that you are leaving for a long time.

Do necessary vaccinations to kid.

If you haven't bought your plane tickets yet, you might find my post about

An article about how to pack a suitcase for vacation if you are planning a vacation in Turkey, Egypt, the sea in southern Russia, Crimea, Spain, Greece, Italy, Cyprus, Portugal and other southern countries. What to take on a trip and what not to take.

Packing a suitcase, video

Before my trip to Italy, I made a video in which I tell you how to properly pack a suitcase on a plane, show you how to compactly roll things up, talk about what you can and cannot take with you in hand luggage on board the plane.

The video is funny. I not only show my suitcases there, but also tell you about how, before my vacation, I decided to cheat. You can watch a video about what to take to the sea, or continue reading the article.

  • Comb

  • Ballet flats (1 pair)
  • Sandals (optional)

**** Above is a list of clothes that I took with me on summer trip for 25 days in Europe. We flew by plane to Prague, and from there we drove by car through Germany, Austria and Italy to the westernmost point of Sicily.

I never took my T-shirts and shorts out of my suitcase. She wore dresses all the time, sometimes throwing on a jacket in the evenings. I didn’t need ballet flats or sandals; I wore sneakers twice. The slates alone in Italy were enough to go over the roof (for the beach, the bar, and the restaurant).

All of the items listed above, if properly packed, will fit in your hand luggage, but if you plan to fly low-cost airlines without luggage, then you will have to discard some of the items on the list. A partial list of them is given below.

How to pack a suitcase on a plane (carry-on luggage)?

Toothpaste, deodorant and creams should be purchased in packages of up to 100 ml. Shampoo needs to be poured into a small jar or purchased on the spot; shower gel can be purchased upon arrival. All bubbles need to be placed in one translucent zipper bag (I use bags from underwear Serge).

Hand luggage- these are the things you take with you on the plane.
Baggage- what is checked into the luggage compartment. Big bags, 80-liter backpacks, suitcases whose size exceeds 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm, and whose weight exceeds 7-8 kg - this is luggage.

What can't you take in hand luggage on a plane?

  • Scissors, files, manicure sets, knives, forks, screwdrivers, axes and other objects that can be cut and stabbed. It is better to purchase all this locally and then throw it away.
  • Liquid in tubes and bottles with a capacity exceeding 100 ml. Even if there are two drops of shampoo left in the bottle, but the bottle itself holds 150 ml, then you cannot take it in hand luggage
  • Flowers in pots (you can take a bouquet of fresh flowers)
  • Razor blade, if kept separately. Razors usually not selected
  • Lighters (matches are fine)
  • Syringes
  • Weapons, drugs

How to pack things in a suitcase, life hacks:

  • To pack your suitcase compactly, roll things up into rolls, as shown in the video. So clothes take up less space
  • Do not take bulky, wrinkled items
  • You don't need to take a hairdryer, especially if you're staying in the same hotel. More or less decent hotels have a hairdryer.
  • You cannot transport soil and flowers in pots, but if you really want to, you can wrap the flower and pot in foil, put it in a box and hide it in your suitcase. When scanning, the foil does not show through.
  • The lens solution I use is only sold in 120 ml bottles. I erased the “120 ml” sign and carry the solution in my hand luggage. It hasn’t occurred to anyone yet to take the bottle away.
  • Do not put nail polish remover in your suitcase - there is a high probability that it will leak. It is difficult to get rid of the smell afterwards.
  • You can take some food in your hand luggage. If you fly low-cost airlines without food, you can prepare food at home in advance in case of hellish hunger. A small packet of tomato juice, waffles, cookies, chocolate - all this can be brought on board and crunch quite happily in the plane seat to the envy of other passengers. Do not take sandwiches with sausage and lard - hungry customs officers may take them away.

If, after reading this article and watching the video, you have any doubts about what you can take and how to properly pack your suitcase on vacation, please write them in the comments to the post so that other travelers can read the answers. I don’t answer questions on contacts and Facebook.

Let your bags weigh no more than 7 kg! Sincerely,

1

It is better to roll socks and underwear into a tube and place them in shoes: this way we will simultaneously save space and protect the shoes from deformation. In addition, shoes can serve as an excellent case for watches, glasses and even a tie. Ramp! Tightly packed items will not move during transportation and will withstand the trip better.

2

T-shirts, pullovers, any things take up less space and wrinkle less if they are also rolled up, rather than laid in the usual layers. If there are a lot of such rollers and the suitcase is deep, you can use them to make the first layer.

3

Put it between things plastic bags or sheets of paper. Clothes will slide rather than rub against each other and suffer less damage.

4

We've told you how to fold shirts using a magazine before. Fasten the buttons, then do everything as in the pictures and don’t forget to take out the magazine. Shirts can be used as a second layer, after the rollers.

5

Do not stack cans of foam, cream, etc. in one bag. After making sure it is tight, stuff it all into different nooks and crannies.

6

Jackets and coats have their own folding method - “shoulder to shoulder”. Turn one sleeve inside out. Fold the jacket in half so that the inverted shoulder fits into the inverted one. Then fold it in half so that the inside out sleeve is on the outside. Place a bag between the halves so that the fabric does not rub against the fabric.

7

Don't put shoes in pairs. Each shoe must be placed in its own bag and placed in different places. And remember: there is no trip on which you would need more than three pairs of shoes.

8

It is better to lay straps and wires along the walls of the suitcase. Rolled up, they will take up more space.

At first it seems that packing things into a suitcase is very simple. And then, when the packing begins, it becomes clear that it is very difficult to fit everything you want into even the most voluminous bag. That's why you first need to make a list of what you need. For example, for a standard trip of a couple of weeks to hot countries, at the seaside, tights, several pairs of high-heeled shoes, jeans, men's suits. If you have to combine rest with work, then the easiest way is to wear business clothes on yourself, and in your suitcase light T-shirts, dresses, slippers. You also need to put your cosmetics bag there. Various creams and lotions in large quantities cannot be carried in hand luggage; they will be asked to be taken out and left at the security checkpoint at the airport.

If you are planning a trip to a cold country, then be sure to pack a spare sweater, thermal underwear, and woolen socks in your suitcase. Heavy winter shoes, jacket, hat, so that they do not take up space, it is better to take it with you to travel bag.

If you travel frequently, you should always have clean T-shirts, a sweatshirt, and light pants or a dress in your wardrobe. These items should be travel-only items that can be placed in a suitcase without being washed first.

How to properly pack things in a suitcase

The basic rule for packing things in a suitcase is that the heaviest part is down. Shoes, a hairdryer, and a large first aid kit are placed at the bottom of the suitcase. Then it will be stable during transportation, and the clothes placed on top will not wrinkle. If you plan to transport fragile items, they need to be wrapped in T-shirts, sweaters, or even better - in special packaging film. Then the chance of delivering them safe and sound will be higher. Fragile items are placed in the center; they need to be separated from the walls of the suitcase by clothing.

Don't take a lot of things with you on vacation. Usually sold at sea are light and high-quality Summer clothes, so there is no point in bringing a large wardrobe with you.

How to quickly put things in a suitcase

Once you understand the basic principles of layout, you can assemble a suitcase very quickly. Place the shoes in a bag so that they do not stain adjacent items and place them down. Place a hairdryer, first aid kit, everything heavy and not fragile nearby. Next - clothes, things for the child if he is also going on a trip. It is better to place a laptop, video camera, tablet and other gadgets in a separate bag. Suitcases are not always carefully stored in the luggage compartment, fine technique may be damaged.
