Christmas wreaths are an interesting and versatile decorative element. It can be used to decorate almost any room and object, since the wreath can be either hung or simply placed on a flat surface.
We owe the appearance of the Advent wreath to the Lutheran theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern. As the story goes, he mentored several orphans in the early 19th century. The theological expert in every possible way expanded the children’s knowledge in the field of theology, and to make religious dogmas easier for them to perceive, he came up with a variety of “ visual aids" To count down the days of fasting before Christmas, he came up with a wreath, or rather, it was an ordinary wheel on which candles were placed (a kind of prototype of the future Advent wreath), which played the role of calendar days– small candles were lit on weekdays, and large ones on weekends.

So, once upon a time the Advent wreath replaced the calendar, and after a significant amount of time, it turned into a symbolic and beautiful attribute of the New Year holidays.

The Christmas wreath began to be decorated in all sorts of ways - with fir branches, New Year's toys, ribbons, etc. And also, he changed the location - now not only tables are decorated with wreaths, but they are also hung on doors and windows. Thus, while maintaining the status of a symbol of the winter holidays, the Christmas wreath has completely lost its original purpose and meaning.

There are no restrictions in creating Christmas wreaths, and within the same apartment wreaths made in different techniques and from absolutely different materials.

To make our New Year's wreath we will need:

1. Thick cardboard for making a circle.

2. Old unnecessary magazines, newspapers to create the volume of the wreath.

3. Artificial spruce branches, New Year's balls of different diameters, satin ribbons, New Year's beads, fir cones, a glue gun and glue sticks for it, masking tape, green corrugated paper and various New Year's elements.

Stages of work:

1. We prepare cones. We select by size (this depends on the radius of the wreath), if the radius is large (25-30 cm), then the cones are larger, if the radius is small (18-23 cm), then the cones are smaller. Coloring the pine cones acrylic paint(spray can).

2. Decide on the radius of the wreath. Cut from thick cardboard circle as shown in the photo above. We fold an accordion out of old magazines or newspapers and glue it tightly to the circle.

3. In this way we fill the entire circle.

4. Wrap this blank tightly with masking tape.

5. Then we wrap the workpiece with green corrugated paper.

6. Strengthen the hanger. This could be some kind of decorative loop or satin ribbon. In my case it was a satin ribbon.

7. We begin to fill the circle with spruce branches. We glue the twig so that part of the twig looks to the side, and the other part is tightly glued to the circle. Glue with a glue gun.

8. Gradually fill the outer and inner circle of the wreath.

9. Fill the circle with spruce branches so that there is space left in the center for decorative elements.

10. We begin to decorate the wreath. Glue cones and New Year's balls of different diameters.

11. It is important not to overload the wreath with various elements, but this is a matter of taste...

12. I made wreaths as gifts for all my family and friends, this is what I came up with!

13. If the wreath is not made of spruce branches, then the color corrugated paper maybe not green, but to match the color of your wreath, as in my case the paper was pink.

14. Happy and fruitful creativity to everyone! Happy New Year and Merry Christmas!

Decorating a house with a Christmas and New Year's wreath is a very beautiful custom that came to us from Western countries. Just a few years ago, such wreaths looked quite exotic in Russia. But today this is an absolutely typical type of home decoration in the days before Christmas, which is made from spruce branches and four candles, fixed vertically or placed on a table. According to Catholic custom, the first candle is lit on the first Sunday of the four-week fast - Advent, the second on the next Sunday, and so on.

Christmas wreaths owe their appearance to the Hamburg Lutheran theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern, who took in children from poor families. During Lent they kept asking when Christmas would come. And in order to make it easy for children to count down the time until the holiday, Wichern in 1839 made a wreath based on an old wheel, which was decorated with nineteen small red and four large white candles. Every morning one small candle was lit in the wreath, and on Sundays a large one was added to them.

The symbolism of Christmas wreaths has several basic meanings. At first, the addition of fire and light in the wreaths symbolized the growing anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ - the light of the world. An interpretation has been added to everything round shape, the symbolism of the wreath due to the spruce greenery, the colors of candles and decorative ribbons acquired additional meaning. Thus, Christmas wreaths and four candles began to be associated with the meaning of the globe and the four cardinal directions. The circle is considered to be a symbol of eternal life, which Sunday gives, the green color is the embodiment of life itself, and candles are the light that illuminates the world on Christmas days. In Christmas traditions, it is customary to decorate wreaths with three purple candles and one Pink colour, which corresponds to the liturgical colors of worship during the Advent period. The pink candle is lit during the third week of Advent, when Sunday is called Gaudete, or Rejoice!

And such a bright wreath can be made from bright scraps of fabric. Below the picture you will find detailed master class.

The classic base is natural raw materials in the form of straw, twigs, grapevine and even the rim of a wooden wheel. At worst, you can use wire. But in practice, any available material is used as the basis for a wreath. This will create an excellent base from wires twisted and secured in the form of a circle (for example, a simple extension cord). A piece of hose, thick cardboard that can be glued together from several layers of thinner ones, newspapers compressed into bundles and fixed with a thin wire, fabric in the form of a roller filled with cotton wool or padding polyester, and similar materials are also suitable.

Will not be superfluous either practical advice, for example, how to make a wreath from pine or spruce branches. Usually, the frame is first made from wire or other rigid material. Then the coniferous branches are cut required length and the weaving of the wreath begins. The branches are laid in a clockwise direction, with the bare part of the previous branch being covered by the lush part of the next one. The second layer is woven in the opposite direction, which will help give the product volume. The branches are fastened together with wire, and it is better to take green wire, which will be invisible against the background of pine needles. Thin garden or craft wire will also work. The number of layers is taken such that DIY Christmas wreath done, it will be pleasing to the eye. Then the wreath is woven satin ribbon and decorated with the materials you choose. Usually such a wreath is hung on the entrance door or on the wall, and also placed on coffee table or a shelf. But the future location of the wreath needs to be thought out in advance, because it can turn out to be quite heavy, which will not be held on by adhesive tape or pushpin, and you don’t always want to spoil the wall with a thick nail. Therefore, even before you start working with the wreath, you need to decide on its placement. If it is possible to mount it vertically on a strong mount, then you can make a heavy version of the wreath, and if the mount is quite flimsy, then it is better to choose a heavier one. light form, which is why the decoration will be no worse. And if you still want to make a weighty thing, but the mounting didn’t work out, then you can place the wreath on a horizontal surface - a table, shelf, stand. But here you can let your imagination run wild and load the wreath with any, even the heaviest, toys. It will look so beautiful, quite heavy, but very symbolic New Year's wreath of pine cones, decorated with gold spray, artificial snow, nuts and apples. Take a wire hanger. Dry cleaners provide these hangers.

Use pliers to separate the hanger.

Prepare several sets of balls of different diameters.

By the way. We needed about 80 balls for the job.

String the balls onto the base so close to each other that the wire is not visible.

If the balls begin to bunch up and roll, secure them with a drop of glue-seconds.

Your wreath should be tight.

When the last piece of jewelry is on, twist the ends of the hanger.

Now wrap the hook with red ribbon.

Attach the tape with glue.

All you have to do is make a bow from the ribbon and tie it to the wreath.

Although not only the base is made from almost any suitable material. The wreath itself and its decoration can also be made as a completely unexpected fruit of your own imagination. This way you can create a wreath from buttons of different diameters and styles, attached to a cardboard base and suspended using a strap with a round buckle. You can also dispossess your husband and make a creative wreath of ties wrapped around a plastic headband so that the tabs look beautifully outward into the decoration like flower petals. An absolutely unexpected option is a newspaper wreath: strips of paper are collected in the form of a three-dimensional flower and strung on a wire frame. You can decorate a wreath of spruce paws with small Christmas balls and memorable family photos. Since there isn’t much space expected, you’ll have to limit yourself to five or six small photos.

This will depend on the weight of the decoration and the material from which the door is made, since you definitely cannot hammer nails into an armored sheet. On the front side, the wreath itself is attached to the ribbon; from the inside of the room, the ribbon is usually decorated with pine cones, toys and rain.

But such a wreath can be made from red ribbons and burlap.

Hanging wreaths are usually made from lightweight material. Therefore, you can cover a tire from a children’s bicycle with a beautiful striped fabric, decorate it with beads and small cards. It would be nice to choose postcards in an old style. And a wreath made from this material will definitely become your favorite: take a handful of small balls and decorate a circle of the same wire with them. You will get a soft and fluffy multi-colored caterpillar curled into a ring. Fast and sweet. Everyone will probably love the idea of making a wreath from dried citrus rings attached to a paper ring. The wreath can be decorated with a fir branch and a bunch New Year's balls bright red color with the same ribbon. Fragrant, beautiful and fun! A wreath made of wicker, on which snowflakes of all shades of blue are glued, looks fragile and elegant. It looks like they just fell from the sky onto a grape branch. Very gentle Christmas wreath It will be made from azure ribbons, gathered into ruffles and decorated with small snow-white balls that look like snowballs. You can assemble such a wreath from individual modules using the origami technique. To do this, modules of the same size in an amount of approximately 60 pieces are folded from green colored paper of several shades. On a cardboard sheet with a circle drawn in the upper part in the shape of a wreath, assembled triangles are placed: from darker to lighter colors, which will create the illusion of volume. In this case, the acute corner of the module is hidden under the previous figures, as in real branches. Then a pink cardboard candle with a yellow paper flame is “placed” in the center of the wreath. They cling to streamer ribbons paper snowflakes, as if hanging from a wreath. You can take a cardboard sheet in a wooden frame or make a edging from the same bright cardboard. Just like that - unexpected and sweet. Happy holidays to you!

Strict male character visible in a work of carpentry, attractive with its clear lines and lively lines of wood.

How to do it or a small master class

Almost any wreath can be made with your own hands from available materials. It is good to cut the base out of cardboard, plywood or thick foam - it is important that the parts are attached to the base material with glue, small nails or pins.

We offer schematic instructions for making original jewelry to help - step by step photos. The first two steps, as can be seen in the photo, are the same for any decor option.

Preparatory stage

  1. The basis. The size of the future product depends on where it will be located - on front door outside, on a window, in a display case, on a table or on a living room wall. Using a compass or ordinary plates, draw 2 concentric circles at a distance of about 10 cm from each other. Cut out the ring.
  2. On back side You should attach a loop of twine or thin wire to secure it to a door or window.

Warmth of textiles

Wrap the prepared base around the ring with satin or velvet ribbon, braid, rope or thread - the wreath is ready! Examples are in the photo. All that remains is to add Christmas touches - an impromptu candle, fir paws, bows and other decorations.

Balls of multi-colored wool and fragments of knitting, ostentatiously pinned to the ring with knitting needles, look wonderful. A sort of symbol of home.

Gifts from a squirrel

Nuts are a wonderful material for making New Year's decorations. Use a glue gun to attach them to the circle.

Colored burlap

  1. A wonderful, textured, pliable material - burlap, cut into squares with a side of 15 - 20 cm.
  2. Fold each square in half into a triangle, then long ends pull it to the central corner (connect sharp corners with straight corners). It turns out to be a square with a depression.
  3. Using small nails or pins, we attach the free edge of the square to the base braided with straw or twine, and overlap the next one, gradually filling the surface of the ring.

An unusual wreath with soft corners can be decorated with bows, small cones, candies or Christmas balls, leaves cut from the same burlap, spruce branches, arranging them in any order.

New Year's wreath from a carpentry workshop

Having prepared identical wooden rectangles, fasten them to the base in a random or strict geometric order. Additional decor– pine paws, bows, berries. An example is in the photo.

Snow wreath made from paper napkins

  1. Preparing the filling. Round napkins Fold in four to create triangles with a rounded lace edge.
  2. We attach each triangle with a pin to the foam template, as shown in the photo, then, as close as possible to the first, the second, third, and so on, until the entire surface of the base ring is covered under an improvised snow layer.
  3. Decorate the snow circle with a bright red bow, one or four (imitating 4 candles).

Unusual material

The original material is an exhaust pipe. It is enough to bend a shiny, neat exhaust pipe that is the same along its entire length into a ring and mask the connection point beautiful ribbon, New Year's "rain".

Christmas decorations

As a base, you can use a wire trempel - a clothes hanger. Leave the hook intact to secure the masterpiece. Unbend the rest of the wire and bend it again, now in the shape of a ring, and then hook the very tip to our hook.

All that remains is to string the Christmas tree balls in any order, of any size and color. There's a lot of people here! But the wreath turns out bright and original.

As an option: you can come up with cute products from tinsel, satin ribbons, even from ordinary pasta!

A New Year's wreath attached to the outside of the front door invites guests; lying on the table speaks of the cordiality of the owners; greeting passers-by from a window or shop window pleases the eye and lifts the mood.
