How to dye your hair dark without dye. Pros and cons of natural dyes. Means for light curls

Hair is one of the main decorations of every woman. But what if your hair is not as beautiful as you would like it to be? Today this problem is solved quite simply. There is such an abundance of hair colors in our stores that it just makes your eyes run wide! So that's why you need to know exactly what you want to get as a result of staining, so that there are no unpleasant surprises.

So, before you dye your hair, you must decide on the color. What do you want to become: a blonde or a brunette, or maybe even a redhead? If you have decided on the choice of color, then you should decide where you will do it. Dye your hair at home or in the salon - it's up to you. At home, of course, it is cheaper, but in the cabin it is more reliable. There you definitely will not become unexpectedly bright yellow or pale green.

How can you dye your hair? Today, there are four types of hair dyes: bleaching, chemical, physical and natural dyes.

bleaching paints

Bleaching compounds are used with an oxidizing agent, which is based on hydrogen peroxide. Reacting with the pigment of the hair, peroxide makes them light. These compounds are used both for bleaching hair for further staining other means, and as the main dye. For example, before painting dark hair in more light color, they must first be discolored, otherwise the paint simply will not be taken, and your hair will acquire only a barely noticeable shade.

Bleaching is a serious process, and it is better to carry it out in the salon with an experienced hairdresser. If you choose the wrong oxidizing agent or overdo it on your head, you can burn your hair, and instead of a new beautiful hairstyle, you will have dried straw on your head.

Chemical paints

These dyes react with keratin to change the color of your hair. They partially destroy the pigment, penetrating into the hair structure, due to which the color is stable. The composition of these paints also includes an oxidizing agent. And you can choose any color.

You can paint the entire head with one color, or you can paint only individual strands or tips. Young girls in Lately prefer tip coloring. How to color the ends of the hair? The tips are also bleached first if the hair is dark and then dyed with chemical dye.

physical paints

These paints are chemically inactive, having only a superficial effect. They are quite easy to wash off the hair, as they have only a superficial effect and do not penetrate deep into the hair structure. This tinted shampoos, balms, soft paints and foams. The degree and duration of coloring depends on the type of hair: if hair is stiff, then the shade will not last long, if soft and porous, then the color will be more resistant. However, such inks are not suitable for dark and heavily discolored or gray hair. On dark ones you will not notice anything, but gray or bleached hair can be painted over unevenly, and stains will turn out.

natural colors

These dyes do not change the structure of the hair, but penetrate into it with the help of biologically active substances that have a beneficial effect on the hair, improving it. appearance and condition. They are very durable. These dyes include henna, which dyes with red tints, and basma, it dyes black (but only with henna; without it, basma will dye the hair greenish). But there is one downside. Coloring you should carry out experienced master, otherwise if you make a mistake with the color, then it will be very, very difficult to correct what has been done.

So, dear girls before experimenting, think carefully about what you want to end up with, and if you decide to experiment, then let a knowledgeable and able person conduct it.

It's no secret that everyone modern paints for hair are produced on the basis of a variety of chemicals. Of course, they do an excellent job with their task, but they also harm the hair: they thin and dry them. In order not to harm the hair, after each application of such a dye, it is also necessary to make restorative masks. Or you can go the other way and sometimes, instead of chemical staining, dye your hair without paint. How is this possible? Yes, it's very simple - you need to use herbal remedies.

There are very few herbal remedies that can truly color hair. These are the well-known henna and basma - with their help you can achieve. But besides them, there are many more plants, the use of which will also give an interesting result. We have to talk only about the so-called toning, i.e. emphasizing the main color of the hair, but such herbal remedies will strengthen the hair. Light hair can be given various new shades:
  • Golden. Pour 150 grams of dry chamomile with boiling water (500 ml). Infuse for 15 minutes, then boil for another 5 minutes. Strain the broth, add a tablespoon to it lemon juice and a tablespoon of olive oil.
  • Straw yellow. Pour 200 g of dry rhubarb root with water (500 ml). Boil for 30 minutes and then strain.
  • Light blond. Pour 150 g of dry rhubarb with dry white wine (500 ml). Cook until the liquid has reduced in volume by half.

Apply all products to dry clean hair and hold for at least 30 minutes.

Red-haired girls and brown-haired women can enhance or shade their natural color So:
  • Bright golden. Pour 200 g of onion peel with one liter of boiling water. Keep in a water bath for 30 minutes and then strain.
  • Reddish orange. Boil 50 g of onion peel and 150 ml of water over low heat for 20 minutes.
  • Reddish brown. Pour 3 tablespoons with a slide of black tea with one glass of water and cook over very low heat for 20 minutes, and then strain.

All decoctions must be applied to wet hair and hold until the desired shade is obtained.

Nature has not bypassed brunettes and also offers folk remedies for getting more saturated colors:
  • Brown. Pour 5 tablespoons of crushed dry linden twigs with water (500 ml). Cook on fire until the broth is reduced in volume by half.
  • Chestnut. A glass of dry ingredients taken in equal proportions (linden twigs, nettle leaves, oak bark and buckthorn bark), pour one liter of water and boil for one hour.

Just like the previous ones, these decoctions must be filtered and kept on the hair until the expected result.

As you can see, you can give your hair a new shade without buying expensive paints and without spending money on trendy beauty salons. All presented herbal remedies can be bought at a phytopharmacy or collected and dried in the summer when you relax in the country. Be beautiful, and nature will definitely help you with this.

If you first decided to dye your hair yourself, first of all, remember the four categorical ones.

  1. You can't dye your hair after perm. There should be at least two weeks between these procedures.
  2. Do not dye your hair if there are abrasions or other damage on the scalp.
  3. You can not add oils, balms and other products to your taste to chemical paints.
  4. Diluted paint should not be used more than once. Even if the next day, even if stored in the refrigerator.

How to choose paint

Hair dyes are natural, physical and chemical. Natural paints are henna and basma. They do not harm the hair, but rather nourish them. But they have a modest range of shades. Read more about henna staining at the end of the article.

Physical - these are paints with a chemical pigment, but without ammonia and hydrogen peroxide. The coloring pigment envelops, but does not penetrate into the hair. Because of this, they are unstable.

Most often, chemical paints are used for home staining. In the package you will find a tube of coloring paste and an oxidizing agent. Chemical paints are divided into:

  1. Unstable: tint shampoos and balms for refreshing color.
  2. Medium-resistant: oils and others are added to them nutrients for hair care.
  3. Persistent: they have a lot of chemistry, but the color is not washed off for a long time.

It is better to use chemical paints no more than once a month. It is permissible to tint the roots every two weeks.

Decide on the type of paint, and then choose a shade. It is better to do this before going to the store so that the window display does not get confused by the variety.

On the websites of paint manufacturers there are services for selecting hair color. Answer a couple of questions, upload a photo and see what suits you: caramel, chestnut or dark chocolate.

If you want to change the image, the shade should be one or two shades lighter or darker than the current color.

You should not arrange experiments at home to transform from a brunette to a blonde. Without a salon wash, the color will turn yellow, and the hair will suffer greatly.

It is also better to entrust complex coloring like ombre and highlighting to professionals.

How to prepare everything you need

To dye your hair at home, you will need:

  1. Dye. For short hair one pack is enough. For medium and long hair I'll have to buy two or three bottles.
  2. Hairdressing cape. If you don't have one, just put it on. old t-shirt, which is not a pity to stain the paint.
  3. Hair coloring brush and comb with fine teeth. Theoretically, you can get by with one comb. But in practice, it is more convenient to distribute the paint with a brush, and to separate the strands with its sharp end.
  4. Glass or plastic bowl for mixing paint and oxidizer. Special ones are sold on AliExpress.
  5. Non-metal hair clips. "Crabs" and other hairpins will fit.
  6. Gloves. It is better to buy medical ones at the pharmacy. Those that come with paint are usually uncomfortable and fragile.
  7. Oily cream. Apply it along the hairline so that when staining it does not stain the forehead and ears. You can also use paper tape.

It is not necessary to wash the head before dyeing. Only if you use varnish or mousse.

How to apply paint

If this is your first time using paint, especially chemical paint, do a sensitivity test. Take a drop of paint and oxidizer, mix and apply on the wrist or inside of the elbow. If in 10-15 minutes the skin does not turn red, itching or burning does not appear, you can paint.

Read the instructions carefully: how to mix, how long to hold the paint. The result of staining depends on these nuances.

Make two partings: from the forehead to the back of the head and from ear to ear.

As a result, the hair will be divided into four approximately equal parts. Secure each with a clip.

Put on your barber cape and gloves. Dilute the paint according to the instructions and proceed to staining.

First, apply paint along the main partings: from the forehead to the back of the head, from temple to temple. Then start painting the roots at the back of the head (in the figure - zone 1 and 2).

Separate a thin strand, apply a little paint to the roots and fold it to the crown so as not to interfere. Move on to the next one. And so, until all the roots in the occipital zone are dyed.

Also paint over the roots on the crown and temples. After that, distribute the remaining paint over the entire length of the hair. Comb them and collect them in a bun.

The hair on the parietal and occipital parts of the head are colored more slowly, so stylists recommend starting from these areas. At the temples and at the bottom of the nape, the hair is thin. The pigment will act faster, and therefore they need to be painted last. If this feature is neglected, the color may turn out to be uneven.

The described method allows you to apply paint first on the crown and back of the head, and at the very least - on the whiskey, since they still need to be reached.

How to hold and wash off paint

Many people remember how mothers and grandmothers, having applied paint, put a bag on their heads and wrapped themselves in a towel. Hence the common misconception: to make the color brighter, you need heat.

But do not forget that our mothers and grandmothers painted mostly natural paints. In the case of henna or basma, you really need to put on a plastic cap and tie a towel over your head. Chemical paints need oxygen to react, so it’s better to do without bags. Otherwise, after dyeing, the hair will be dry.

Hold the paint exactly as directed in the instructions.

Another myth: if you hold the paint longer, the color will not wash off longer, and if it is smaller, the hair will be less damaged. This is wrong.

Upon contact with chemical dye, the hair scales open. The coloring pigment is absorbed into the rod. This takes 20 to 40 minutes. After the scales close again. If you wash off the paint ahead of time, the scales will remain open, which means that the hair will be brittle. If the paint is overexposed, the hair will dry out and become exhausted.

When the time indicated on the package is up, wash off the paint with warm water. Rinse until the water runs clear. To get rid of the remains of paint on the scalp, you can wash your hair with shampoo. After that, be sure to apply a balm for colored hair or make an appropriate mask and rinse your hair again.

After dyeing, it is better to dry the hair not with a hairdryer, but in a natural way.

How to care for dyed hair

No matter how gentle the paint is, dyed hair needs special care. Here are some elementary rules.

  1. Use shampoo and conditioner for colored hair.
  2. Do it every 10-14 days.
  3. When curling with a curling iron, use heat protection.
  4. If you go to the pool, wear a cap.

How to dye your hair with henna or basma

Henna is a paint made from the dried leaves of lavsonia non-thorny. It is used for body painting and hair coloring. The last henna gives rich copper color and healthy shine.

Basma is made from indigo leaves. Use it to color your hair dark tones: from light chestnut to black.

The procedure for staining with henna and basma is generally the same as with chemical paints, but there are several important nuances.

  1. The amount of powder depends on the length and thickness of the hair: usually one pack for shoulder-length hair and two for shoulder-length hair.
  2. Natural paint is poured with hot, but not boiling water. The powder must be thoroughly mixed so that there are no lumps. It is better to do this with a wooden or silicone spatula, always in a non-metallic bowl.
  3. The consistency of diluted henna should be like thick sour cream. Basma is even thicker. When diluting it, it is important not to overdo it with water, and so that the basma does not flow, you can add glycerin or some kind of hair oil to it.
  4. In order for the paint to give off color better, a thermal effect is needed. After applying, put on a plastic cap and cover your head with a towel.
  5. Henna and basma can be kept on the hair for several hours. The longer, the richer the shade.
  6. Natural paint is applied and washed off harder than chemical. Stock up on patience. Rinse off henna and basma without shampoo and balm. It is also recommended not to wash your hair for a couple of days after dyeing.

Henna and basma can be combined with others natural ingredients: for example, with cocoa, chamomile infusion, beetroot juice. This allows you to play with shades. Also, henna and basma can be mixed with each other. The color will depend on the ratio of dyes. But this is a topic for a separate article.

In order for everything to be done efficiently and without stress, it is best to turn to professionals, but if there is no such possibility or desire, you can easily do it correctly and at home with our detailed instructions.

What are the types of hair coloring products?

On store shelves you can find big choice special paints, tint balms, shampoos, foams and natural dyes, like basma and henna. The former are chosen if a lasting effect is needed, which will be noticeable up to a year. If there is no desire to linger in a new image for a long time, tint products are suitable, and for those who are not afraid to experiment - henna and basma.

Here are 3 types of products that you can use to color your hair at home:

  • Paints. They are of two types - persistent, which are slowly washed off, and semi-resistant, with a shorter "service life". Both of them can contain ammonia or be produced without it, but the latter cost an order of magnitude more, and they are considered harmless to health. The results obtained are pleasing for 2-10 months, depending on the chosen remedy. The offered color scale is rather extensive, from white to black. The disadvantage of this option is that under the sun, hair dyed with such means quickly fades. Also, after that, they can begin to actively fall out, become dry and brittle, look lifeless. Another drawback is that it doesn’t look very nice when relatives grow lighter or dark roots and the paint has not completely washed out yet. This method is especially inconvenient for brunettes, because in order for them to turn into a blonde, they need to lighten up several times, and this is very bad for hair. Most popular brands- Garnier, Palette, Syoss and Wella Wellaton. You can not use ammonia paint if the integrity of the scalp is broken, otherwise it will bake strongly.
  • Tonics. This type refers to unstable dyes that are washed out in 2-3 months. At the same time, it is a completely safe and easy way to change hair color. Unlike their competitors, such products do not penetrate deep into the skin, so the result appears faster, after 15-20 minutes. In the same category can be added tint balms, foams, gels and shampoos that are used to wash your hair. They are much easier to work with than simple paints, from them there are no stains either on the hands or on the face. This hair coloring is not suitable for owners dark curls. Manufacturers offer mainly red, burgundy, chocolate, light brown shades. One tube, usually produced in a volume of 350 ml, is enough for 1-2 times, depending on the length and thickness of the hair. This tool is easy to paint without outside help. Do not use tonics for 1-3 months after lightening, coloring conventional formulations and perm - the color can turn out completely unexpected.
  • natural dyes. Here we are talking about basma and henna, which are desirable to use in combination with each other. These products are in powder form. greenish color and are sold in paper and cardboard packages of 100 g. They are extremely beneficial for hair, strengthen it and give it a natural shine. It is very important that in the end the color is so close to natural that it is not always possible to distinguish. Basma gives a black color, and henna - red, in the aggregate it turns out chestnut. Some manufacturers offer the so-called white henna to lighten curls by 1-2 tones. A colorless product is used to strengthen the hair. Products from Iran and India are in high demand. The disadvantage of these products is that they do not smell very pleasant and are poorly washed out of the curls.

Do not store the mixture for more than 20 minutes, especially in the refrigerator. For hair below shoulder length, 2-3 packs may be needed. Before this, you should not wash your hair for 2-3 days.

  12. Use the balm that comes with the kit.
  13. When the strands dry a little, comb them.

  • Rinse your hair without shampoo.

Note! If the results do not suit you, you can always apply Retonika, which allows you to adjust the shade; it is used in exactly the same way.

How to dye your hair at home with henna and basma

The procedure for dyeing hair with these compositions practically does not differ from that which is carried out with conventional paints. If you want to get a red tint, you will need 2 packs of basma and 3 henna, dark - the numbers are simply reversed. This number is indicated for owners of long curls. To enhance the effect, you can add a few drops of lemon juice to the finished composition. So that it does not spread, put 1 tsp in it. glycerin.

Here's how to properly prepare and use the composition:

  1. Combine the two dry ingredients.
  2. Pour them with cooled boiling water, which will be needed so much that the slurry is thick enough.
  3. Stir the mass with a wooden or silicone spatula, so that not a single lump remains.
  4. Apply the product to the roots in the back of the head, then in the central, lateral and front.
  5. Comb the greased curls along the entire length and repeat the same thing, only now coloring them to the very end.

  7. After 30-50 minutes (the longer you hold, the richer the color turns out), rinse your head well and comb the product out of the curls.

Note! All procedures should take you from 1 to 1.5 hours. After that, it is not recommended to wash your hair for 2-3 days.

How to dye your hair at home with folk remedies

It all depends on what shade you want to get. This option is ideal for those who do not want to spoil their curls with ammonia. It involves the use of natural ingredients available to absolutely everyone. The effect is not as bright as with paints, but without harm to health. Painting itself is done in the same way as in any other cases, the main thing is to properly prepare the composition.

Here's what you need to do to get a certain shade:

  • Dark chestnut. Natural high-quality coffee will help to give it to your hair. You will need to pour it (20 g) with boiling water and boil for 10 minutes. When the drink has cooled, add 3 pinches of henna to it and mix. Then apply it with a brush to the hair, distributing it along the entire length. The composition should be kept for 40-50 minutes under a bag and a cap. After that, the head is washed with clean water with the addition apple cider vinegar(10 drops per 1 liter). This option is not at all suitable for full gray hair.
  • Bright golden. You can achieve it by dyeing your hair with a composition with onion peel, which will need about 80 g. It is poured cold water(1 l) and boil for 20 minutes. The finished broth is cooled and washed with their head. It is wrapped around the top cling film, which is left for 30 minutes, after which the hair is washed with shampoo. To make the color more or less expressive, this procedure must be repeated 2-3 times with a break of 4 days.
  • blond. Here rhubarb will come to the rescue, 400 g of which you need to pour 1 liter of dry white wine. Next, the mixture is put on low heat and boiled until the volume decreases by 80%. Then the broth should be allowed to cool, strain it and wash your hair with it. After that, put a small bag on it and wait 20 minutes, and after the specified time, wash your hair with shampoo.
  • blond. This is the most complex color to receive at home. In this case, there is no way to avoid using the old proven hydrogen peroxide. You need 60 ml of a 3% solution, which is diluted with a decoction of chamomile (50 ml). The latter is prepared from 100 g of plant flowers and 0.5 liters of water. The finished composition is applied to pre-washed and dried hair, starting from the back of the head and ending at the forehead, incubated for 20 minutes and washed off. Leaving it for a longer time is simply dangerous to health, otherwise the solution may destroy hair follicles and lead to accelerated hair loss. At the end, rinse the composition several times using shampoo and balm, and comb the curls. If the result is not yet what you want, then repeat the procedure in a week. After that, 15 days, the curls can not be painted with anything. So that they do not fall out much, they must be strengthened with special conditioners and masks. Also, for 20-40 days, you should stop using a hair dryer.

Important! After dyeing hair with folk remedies, it is highly undesirable to use gels, foam and varnishes, heating devices - a hair dryer, an iron and a curling iron for a month.
