Herbs that can not be pregnant decoctions. Medicinal herbs: what not to drink during pregnancy

During my pregnancy, there were many prohibitions to remember, in particular, this also applies to herbs, therefore, apart from mint, I did not use anything. It is a pity that only much later I found the wonderful book "Overcome the Grass" by the well-known and respected herbalist Rim Bilalovich Akhmedov, who not only gave a list of herbs that should not be used during pregnancy, but also described in detail what herbs can be used and need, in what cases and how.

Here is a part of the chapter from the book on this topic, it may be useful to someone. There is also a section "help after childbirth", and much more useful information medicinal properties of plants. Moreover, the table of contents goes not by herbs, but by diseases and problems, so everyone can very quickly find what interests him.

PLANTS FOR MOTHER AND CHILD

GRASS GRASS DIFFERENCE

A young woman in her fifth month of pregnancy, aware of my passion for herbs, either from a desire to flatter me, or to show off her knowledge, said: “I, like you, recognize only herbs. Now I'm only taking care of them. Whether the head or the stomach hurts - I immediately brew chamomile or oregano with St. John's wort. Boycott all pills!

I had to have a serious talk with her about the fact that other herbs are more fearless than pills. The same harmless, everyday chamomile, oregano or St. John's wort can have an abortive effect, especially on women prone to miscarriages.

Taking the opportunity, I give a list of the most common herbal plants that have contraindications during pregnancy. For convenience, to better remember, I line them up in a column.

Highlander kidney.

Gentian.

Melilot medicinal.

Drok dyeing.

St. John's wort.

Strawberries, grass.

Hyssop officinalis.

Hoof.

Nettle, especially in recent months pregnancy.

Burnet.

Laminaria - seaweed.

Lovage.

Mordovnik.

Male fern.

Shepherd's bag.

Nightshade black.

Garden parsley.

Wormwood.

Pharmaceutical camomile.

Pine - buds, resin.

Thyme - thyme.

Bearberry - bear ears.

Yarrow.

Dill garden.

Horse sorrel.

Yarutka field.

Some of the listed plants have a pronounced abortive effect, while others, if used improperly, can cause a rush of blood to the pelvic area, increase the tone of the uterus, and provoke a miscarriage. Strong poisonous plants are not included here, and their use is out of the question.

What herbal remedies can be used during pregnancy?

For colds, coughs, bronchitis, tea from linden flowers, an aqueous infusion of flowers and marshmallow roots, primrose herbs, lungwort, coltsfoot, and veronica officinalis are harmless. Gravilat city has no contraindications. Against coughs and even asthma attacks, powder from the herb gravilata is prescribed in a very small amount, literally at the tip of a teaspoon, and immediately you need to drink honey water - dilute 1 teaspoon of honey in 1/4 cup of warm boiled water. An infusion of the roots of urban gravilate is drunk with a diseased liver, spasms of the gallbladder, stomach pains, and especially with intestinal colic and vomiting. One tablespoon of the roots is poured with a glass of boiling water, insisted for 2-3 hours in a sealed container or steamed in a water bath for 30 minutes, filtered after 10 minutes. Take a small sip - 2 - 3 tablespoons - 3 - 4 times a day before meals. Infusion of herbs - 1 tablespoon per glass of boiling water, soak for 2 hours - good remedy to calm the nerves.

Valerian is not contraindicated during pregnancy - with a short moderate intake. It is best to use not an alcohol tincture, but to prepare an aqueous infusion: pour 1 teaspoon of crushed roots into a glass of cold boiled water overnight, strain in the morning and take 50 ml 4 times a day.

If swelling suddenly appears due to bad work kidneys or heart, birch leaves will be the most gentle and at the same time effective remedy: 2 teaspoons per 200 ml of boiling water, leave for 30 minutes, drink half hot. Take for several days until swelling subsides.

For headaches and dizziness, it is sometimes enough to drink a decoction of red clover inflorescences for two or three weeks: chop 2 teaspoons, pour hot water, hold on low heat for 3-4 minutes, drink 2 tablespoons 3-4 times a day before meals. It is also useful for asthenia, anemia, exhaustion - then the treatment time increases to 1 - 2 months.

Of the other plants are acceptable during pregnancy, if there is an urgent need, calamus, hawthorn, volodushka, cornflower, angelica, chickweed medium - woodlice, goldenrod, viburnum, fireweed, nettle, meadowsweet and six-petal, flax-seed, burdock, mint, dandelion, couch grass, agrimony, duckweed, black currant, black poplar, tricolor violet, chicory, blueberry, meadow rank. The use of all these plants in various diseases given in other sections of the book.

Elecampane, which is used for many diseases, is very popular among the people. He is not mentioned in either list. The fact is that in relation to the case of pregnancy, the attitude towards it is ambivalent. According to some sources, he still has contraindications, according to others - no. For example, I have been assigned to threatened miscarriage, like common wormwood - Chernobyl, with clearly indicated contraindications. It all depends on the method of preparation and the strictest dosage. In any case, expectant mothers must be careful with these plants.

So far, no contraindications have been established for the use of marigolds during pregnancy - calendula. However, I cannot get rid of my wary attitude towards her, knowing the opinion of ancient medicine since the time of Dioscorides. It was believed that if a woman takes a calendula in her hands, she will throw out the fetus. The medieval Armenian physician Amirdovlat Amasiatsi wrote: “The juice of this plant is absorbed by the baby in the womb and causes a miscarriage in the pregnant woman. And if a pregnant woman keeps it to herself, it will harm the fetus.”

It does not hurt to listen to the opinion of the ancient sages: a lot of valuable things can be learned from their medical experience.

What can be recommended to a pregnant woman fearlessly is rose hips. It has almost everything you need to developing fetus, - not only the richest set of vitamins, but also the most valuable complex of microelements with a predominance of manganese, iron, copper, cobalt, phosphorus, magnesium, phenolic compounds, pectins, acids - citric, malic, etc.

Exist different ways preparation of infusions from rose hips.

1. 200 g of fruits are washed, poured with 2 cups of boiling water, boiled in a closed faience or enamel bowl for 10 minutes. Insist 10 - 18 hours. Strain through 2-3 layers of gauze. Syrup or sugar is added to improve the taste.

2. 2 tablespoons of dry crushed fruits are poured into 1 cup of hot water, boiled for 10 minutes over low heat, insisted for 30 minutes and filtered. Store in a tightly closed container for no more than 2 days. Take 1/3 - 1/2 cup 2 - 3 times a day after meals.

3. Pour 2 tablespoons of fruits in a thermos in the evening, pour 2 cups of boiling water. The next day, take the infusion in 3 divided doses 20-40 minutes before meals.

4. Heat a tablespoon of fruits in a glass of boiling water in a water bath for 15-20 minutes, infuse for several hours, take 1/2 cup 2-3 times a day after meals.

5. Pour a tablespoon of dry fruits with 2 cups of boiling water, insist in a thermos for a day, drink 1/2 cup 2-3 times a day before meals.

I took these five recipes from five different books. With some difference between them, they are all acceptable. These are, as it were, different musical variations on the same given motive.

I have worked out my own method, which, I believe, has some advantages. Without being lazy, I count 70 - 80 berries - depending on the size - per glass of water. I'll cut it down for sure. I fill it with settled raw water, let it stand for 1 - 2 hours, then put it on fire and bring it to a boil. You can't cook. Immediately after boiling, I reduce the fire so that the infusion does not boil, but steams - not less than an hour, until they appear, as in meat broth, floating oil circles. The rosehip oil contained in the pits must be rendered. The infusion is ready. For greater strength, I pour it into a thermos along with thick overnight. Then by the morning you get an even more wonderful drink - fragrant, amber-ruby, which does not require any syrup or sugar additives. It is imperative to pour from a thermos into a cup through a strainer so that small prickly hairs inside the fruit do not get caught. Drink up to 2-3 glasses a day remedy for 3-4 weeks, and as a preventive support for the body - half a glass 3 times a day, the first portion in the morning on an empty stomach, and the rest in the intervals between meals - for two and three months.

If you start drinking this infusion from the first weeks of pregnancy, then in many cases it is possible to avoid toxicosis, or its manifestations will be significantly weakened.

TOXICOSIS OF PREGNANCY

The condition is unimportant, I don’t want to look at food, I often feel sick, nausea rolls up. A woman greedily grabs a piece of salted fish, chews a slice of lemon. In the people, often when vomiting in pregnant women, a cut lemon is applied to the epigastric region of the abdomen - as a distraction. This helps for a while. However, one lemon is not enough. Prudent people stock up in advance the necessary medicines, mostly herbs.

The most accessible plant is plantain, especially Fresh Juice from leaves. With toxicosis and vomiting of pregnant women, it is given 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day 15-20 minutes before meals. Not occasionally, but for 3-4 weeks. Canned juice is also fine.

* * *

Many gardeners are now growing lemon mint- Melissa officinalis. A very good medicinal plant for all types of nervous diseases, heart pain, gastric, biliary and renal colic, allergic dermatitis, metabolic disorders.

Relieves nausea and stops vomiting in pregnant women tea from lemon balm: 1 tablespoon per glass of boiling water, leave for an hour, drink in three divided doses before meals. Alcohol tincture works even better. A third of a glass of grass is infused in a glass of vodka for 7-9 days. One teaspoon of tincture should be diluted in 1/3 cup of boiled water room temperature and drinking is harmless, since when diluted with water, the alcohol content is practically reduced to nothing. In any case, it is not more than in ordinary kefir. You can take up to three times a day.

* * *

With nausea, chicory is often used: 1 tablespoon of the herb is infused in a glass of boiling water for half an hour and drunk throughout the day in small sips, or 1/3 cup shortly before meals. With general weakness and anemia, juice is used in summer. At one time, 1 - 2 teaspoons of juice diluted in 100 ml of milk. Drink 3 times a day.

Wormwood grass during pregnancy is contraindicated, including common wormwood - Chernobyl. However, there are no rules without exception; in case of toxicosis, Chernobyl can play a positive role. On one condition that not grass is used, but roots.

1 tablespoon of crushed roots should be poured with a glass of water, brought to a boil, held for 2-3 minutes on fire, then removed and infused until completely cooled. Take 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day before meals.

* * *

A good antiemetic in the first half of pregnancy is a decoction of aronic spotted - 5 g per 200 ml of water - 10 drops 3 times a day.

* * *

You can’t always get barberry and spotted aronik, but many families have peppermint, if they don’t have it, you can ask your friends. 1 tablespoon of mint is brewed in a glass of boiling water, insisted for half an hour. It is impossible to be deceived by its harmlessness, the dosage should be observed: 1 tablespoon 3-4 times a day shortly before meals with nausea, vomiting, pregnancy toxicosis.

MISSION PREVENTION

Elecampane refers to those plants, the use of which is undesirable during pregnancy. But it was elecampane that several women, on my advice, managed to prevent premature birth. In such cases, alcohol tincture is usually prescribed: 2-3 tablespoons of roots per glass of vodka, leave for 2 weeks, take 10-15 drops per tablespoon of water 3-4 times a day. The average duration of the course is 1 month.

I have a more favorite method of preparation: pour 1 tablespoon of crushed root with a glass of cold boiled water, insist overnight, strain in the morning and take 2-3 tablespoons 4 times a day before meals. This infusion is very useful in concomitant colds, when other drugs may be undesirable.

Sometimes, when there is a threat of miscarriage, women drink a decoction of dandelion herb. Put from a teaspoon to a tablespoon in a glass of water, boil for 2-3 minutes, filter and take in small sips throughout the day or a quarter cup 3-4 times a day before meals. The same applies to dandelion roots. It is better to start with smaller doses, from a teaspoon per glass, and only if necessary, increase to a tablespoon per brew, carefully monitoring your well-being. Dandelion is harmless. Nevertheless, in all cases, especially when carrying a fetus, it is first of all necessary to consult with your doctor and obtain his consent.

There is one more surest remedy with threatened abortion - viburnum. Already in what cases does not help out she, the people's favorite, and healing flowers, and no less healing berries. But here we need her bark. The collection is carried out in early spring with the beginning of sap flow, without damaging the entire bush, but choosing young finger-thick layering. The bark on them is thin, tender, the most useful.

One teaspoon of dried crushed viburnum bark is poured into 100 ml of boiling water, boiled for 5 minutes over low heat or steamed in a water bath for 30 minutes, filtered after 10 minutes, topped up with boiled water to the original volume. Take 1 - 2 tablespoons 3 - 4 times a day some time after meals.

Viburnum bark reliably works with bleeding, not only uterine, but also nasal, gastric, hemorrhoidal. In addition, it soothes with hysteria, insomnia, neurosis, convulsions, asthma attacks. A decoction of the bark removes pain with gastritis, peptic ulcer stomach and duodenum. With prolonged use, renal circulation improves, with excessive fullness, fat metabolism is activated.

In recent years, I began to pay more attention to viburnum flowers, observing their excellent effect on pulmonary, gastric, skin and, above all, female diseases - painful menstruation, fibroma, the threat of miscarriage in pregnant women. In the latter case, 2 tablespoons of flowers are steamed in 0.5 liters of boiling water, preferably in a thermos, for at least two hours. You can brew overnight and strain in the morning. Take from a quarter to half a glass 3-4 times a day until the onset of contractions stops, after which the dose is halved and used for another 1-2 weeks to avoid relapse.

HERBS TO EASIER BIRTH

Every woman scrupulously calculates the days, determining approximate dates the birth of a child. The closer they are, the more she is seized by feelings of hidden anxiety, a vague fear for the unpredictable outcome of the resolution of the burden. The fear of difficult childbirth is also woven into the most complex range of feelings. In this case, many generations of women have developed their own recipes to help facilitate childbirth.

The most commonly used herb Chernobyl - wormwood. She anesthetizes and speeds up childbirth. An infusion is prepared from 1 tablespoon of herbs in a glass of boiling water. Keep covered for 2-3 hours, drink a quarter cup 3 times a day before meals. Another measure: 3 teaspoons of dried herbs per 300 ml of boiling water, also leave for two or three hours and drink 100 ml half an hour before meals.

Some recommendations say about 1 tablespoon of powder from the tops of wormwood branches per 0.5 liters of boiling water, after half an hour of infusion, drink half a glass 3 times a day. The dosage is acceptable. Let me just say that it is almost impossible to grind Chernobyl grass into powder - it rolls in lumps, like cotton wool. This refers to normally dried grass. It must be thoroughly rubbed with your hands, discarding the rough stems, then crumbled with scissors, rubbed in a porcelain or wooden mortar. Even heavily crushed raw materials do not spill out of a spoon, they are taken in a lumpy heap. But if Chernobyl is already capable of crumbling into powder, then, therefore, it lay long years and overdried to the point of impossibility, there is no use from him.

Experienced sorceresses and midwives give women in childbirth during attempts to reduce pain and speed up childbirth, magical sleep-grass - open lumbago. It belongs to poisonous plants and requires careful handling, because in case of an overdose it can cause inflammation of the mucous membrane of the intestines and kidneys. True, after drying, the lumbago significantly loses its toxicity.

For quick preparation, 1 teaspoon of herbs is steamed with a glass of boiling water, insisted in heat for 1 hour, filtered and given 1-2 tablespoons 4 times a day. It's absolutely harmless. A cold infusion is more reliable: 2 teaspoons of crushed sleep herbs are poured into a glass of boiled water at room temperature, insisted for exactly a day and allowed to drink in fractional portions throughout the day.

What is good about sleep-grass is that it can have a detrimental effect on Staphylococcus aureus, which, unfortunately, many of our maternity hospitals are very often infected with. Because of this, what can we hide, almost without exception, all babies immediately after birth are given an injection of an antibiotic, which causes dysbacteriosis and diathesis in them in the future. So the grandmother healers knew what to do to protect against Staphylococcus aureus. By the way, exactly the same infusion of sleep - they used herbs for infantile, that is, spasmophilia, removing convulsive manifestations and convulsions in the baby, only the dosage was minimal: 1 teaspoon 2 - 3 times a day.

In children's practice, an infusion of lumbago grass is still used in some places, in addition to spasmophilia, for diarrhea, whooping cough, bronchitis and bronchial asthma.

In German folk medicine in order for the birth to proceed normally, an ordinary cuff is used. The plant is very common throughout middle lane Russia, which has several species in its family. Leaves and young stems are edible, suitable for spring salads and soups. They are rich in ascorbic acid, manganese, iron, pink and others. necessary for the body trace elements. The cuff is very useful for gastritis and stomach ulcers, diseases of the liver and kidneys, scrofula and hernia, diseases respiratory tract and pulmonary tuberculosis. I have also used it successfully for angina pectoris. No wonder the cuff is popularly called sick grass.

Russian women, if necessary, can also use the cuff as an obstetric aid. To do this, 2 teaspoons of dried leaves are brewed with a glass of boiling water, insisted, wrapped warmly, for 4 hours. You can leave it in a thermos overnight. After straining, drink half a glass 3 times a day. Therefore, for a daily dose, 4 teaspoons of cuff grass per 0.5 liters of boiling water are prescribed.

Less well-known and less commonly used are such plants as black cohosh, marsh marigold, marsh chistets.

Black cohosh belongs to the buttercup family, reaches a height of one and a half to two meters. On an upright, unbranched stem with sharp serrated leaves, thoughtfully inclined panicles of small greenish-white flowers. From the plant comes a sharp bad smell, capable, probably, of driving away even bedbugs from itself. The rhizomes also smell bad. But the medicine is the medicine, it is not necessary to choose its taste and smell. On daily dose brew black cohosh herb - 2 teaspoons per glass of boiling water, and rhizomes - 1 teaspoon, insisting 2 - 3 hours. The infusion facilitates childbirth, acts as an analgesic. It is no coincidence that the people use the same water infusion for rheumatic pains, migraines, headaches and toothaches. Alcoholic tincture of roots - 2 tablespoons per glass of vodka - 50 drops 2 - 3 times a day helps to reduce pressure in hypertension.

Bright, golden flowers of the marigold can often be seen in the spring in flood meadows and swamps, but it is rarely used as a medicinal plant, fearing a burning taste. It is somewhat poisonous, although with skillful handling it is suitable not only for medicine, but also for food. Spicy vegetable soups and salads are made from pickled marigold flower buds, and roots boiled in salt water can serve as a seasoning for second courses.

Decoctions of herbs and roots treat colds, metabolic disorders, anemia. Before giving birth, women are given an aqueous infusion of dried leaves: 1 teaspoon in a glass of boiling water, leave for half an hour in a water bath. The infusion is taken with meals in a third of a glass 3 times a day, no more than 4-5 days.

The swamp chistet also loves moist soil in meadows near water bodies, lives in shady damp forests. Dried grass insist 7 days on vodka, at the rate of 1 tablespoon per glass, give to drink on a glass of hot water 20 drops 3-4 times a day with a weak labor activity. The alcohol tincture of the marsh chistets, in addition, is very useful for various nervous disorders.

Dear friends, in this article I want to warn all pregnant mothers who decide to get rid of pregnancy with the help of herbs - do not make rash decisions. There is no firm certainty that herbs will solve all your problems, but everything is possible to cripple your health and the health of your baby. Therefore, further I will tell you in more detail which herbs during pregnancy cannot be used orally, and which ones can.

The happy period of pregnancy gives rise to maternal responsibility for the health of the child. At this time, a woman is driven by a natural desire to protect the unborn baby from the negative impact of the external environment. That's why most women stick to natural nutrition and refuse to take drugs of synthetic origin, preferring natural remedies.

Such an approach could be considered reasonable if the widespread belief that herbs during pregnancy are absolutely harmless was not erroneous. Uncontrolled intake of medicinal and food plants can cause a number of diseases for a woman and her child, and in some cases threaten their lives.

Conventionally, all herbs, according to their negative effects, are divided into causing ones:

  • Stimulation of the smooth muscles of the uterus, followed by abortion or premature birth.
  • Violation of blood coagulation and placental circulation.
  • Level changes blood pressure.
  • Imbalance in work digestive system.
  • Hormonal imbalance.
  • Violations of the central nervous system (women and children).
  • Congenital defects of the child.
  • Allergic diseases of the child.
  • Toxic reaction of the body.
  • Herbs that cause the threat of termination of pregnancy!

At first trimester of pregnancy, when the laying of the main organs and systems of the child occurs, it is generally recommended to refuse any herbs. But the main danger during this period is those that cause contraction of the muscles of the uterus. Taking them can cause bleeding and cause an abortion. It should be noted that these herbs are included in various medicinal collections and even in small quantities are capable of toxic effects.

This group includes:

  • Oregano officinalis (categorically contraindicated due to the ability to greatly increase uterine tone), aloe arborescens (causes a rush of blood to the pelvic organs), calamus marsh, highlander, common muzzle, hyssop officinalis (increase the tone of the uterus) comfrey, primrose or primrose ( increase uterine contractions), spring adonis, medicinal sweet clover, calendula, evading peony, sage.

Plants with a laxative effect have a similar effect. Senna, laxative buckthorn (zhoster), dill and rhubarb, toning the intestines, indirectly affect the strengthening of the tone of the uterus.

Also during this period, it is better to refrain from eating basil and parsley.

Herbs that affect blood clotting

Expectant mothers and their environment should take into account that pregnancy often leads to impaired blood circulation in the body, which can be aggravated by taking herbs. Corresponding deviations can lead to such severe complications as deterioration of uteroplacental circulation, development intrauterine hypoxia fetus or developmental delay.

They increase blood clotting - shepherd's purse, sandy immortelle, common viburnum, pepper knotweed, knotweed, arnica, blue cornflower, corn stigmas, stinging nettle, yarrow, dioica burnet. In addition, these herbs during pregnancy are dangerous by increasing the tone of the uterus.

Plants that thin the blood - garlic, ginseng, gingko biloba. Their intake is not desirable during the entire pregnancy, as they can provoke bleeding during childbirth.

Herbs that affect blood pressure

Fluctuations in blood pressure during pregnancy is an extremely dangerous condition for both a woman and a child. Its consequences can be violations of the uteroplacental blood flow and placental abruption. Often the cause of a sharp increase in pressure is the reception medicinal plants- adaptogens that stimulate the immune system - ginseng, Rhodiola rosea, Schisandra chinensis, echinacea.

Plants that lower blood pressure - oregano, motherwort, wormwood, viburnum vulgaris - should be taken in short courses and under the strict supervision of a physician.

The effect of herbs on the digestive tract

For the normal course of pregnancy, a healthy state of the organs of the digestive system is important. Medicinal herbs used as anti-inflammatory, anti-cold (ledum, oak, sweet clover, celandine) have a side effect of irritating the mucous membranes of the stomach and duodenum. In pregnant women, this is accompanied by nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Herbs and fruits with a laxative or firming effect can be used to normalize the stool, but in compliance with the recommended doses.

Figs, plums, peaches are well suited for relaxation. For fastening - grenades, blackcurrant.

Herbs that change hormonal balance

Some medicinal herbs contain substances similar to human hormones - phytoestrogens. Their use may lead to hormonal imbalance up to termination of pregnancy.

Such dangerous properties are inherent in perforated, sage, common hops, licorice naked, lemon balm, ordinary, corn stigmas, mint. Plants-adaptogens also disrupt the hormonal balance in the body of a pregnant woman, intensely stimulating the sex glands.

Herbs that affect the central nervous system

The state of the nervous system of a pregnant woman, first of all, affects the health of the child. Therefore, a balanced mood, good dream- pledge of strong birth calm baby. Excessive excitation of the nervous system, insomnia, palpitations, headaches - another undesirable effect of plants - adaptogens.

Valerian officinalis, used for the purpose of calming, with a long course and high dosages, causes headaches, disrupts the functioning of the heart and has the opposite effect of "increasing nervousness".

Herbs that promote birth defects

Some plants are strictly forbidden to be taken by pregnant women due to their teratogenic (causing deformity) and damaging effect on the fetus. Seaweed is contraindicated due to the risk of iodine overdose. Sorrel and spinach - due to the high content oxalic acid capable of disrupting bone formation. Caucasian hellebore provokes heart defects, medicinal sage - hormonal failure of the fetus.

Herbs are allergens

Almost any plant can cause an allergic reaction, especially if present. allergic diseases and predisposition to them. A pregnant woman should start taking any herb with small doses. This precaution is explained by the increased sensitivity of the body during this period to many substances, which can serve as an impetus for the development of allergies.

The use of certain medicinal and food plants can form a general allergic predisposition in a child. These properties are possessed by wild strawberries, a series of tripartite and all plants with a high content of essential oils (juniper, citrus).

Herbs with general toxic effects

Modern medicine has proven that a number of plants have a toxic effect on the body of a woman who is expecting a baby. Most often, this manifests itself when the permissible dose or course of administration is exceeded. Mother-stepmother, valerian officinalis, butterbur in large doses have an aggressive effect on the liver, and bearberry, lingonberry and knotweed, with excessively long-term use, provoke inflammatory process and pain in the urinary system.

It must be remembered that competent application natural medicines can in many cases provide invaluable assistance. Their effect on the body is quite mild and with fewer side effects compared to pharmaceuticals. However, the use of a particular herb during pregnancy requires prior consultation with a doctor.

Useful herbs

And now it's time to mention which herbs can be used during pregnancy.

With the onset of pregnancy, a woman's body adapts to the conditions for the birth of a new life inside her. An unusual physiological process affects the state of health, sometimes manifesting itself in specific symptoms of early toxicosis - nausea, vomiting, excessive salivation, aversion to food, irritability. Severe forms of this condition require strict medical supervision with the use of drugs.

With a mild form of toxicosis, a woman can cope on her own. In this case, some medicinal herbs during pregnancy are safe and effective method elimination of unpleasant symptoms.

The cause of morning sickness is a sharply increasing level of estrogen in the body, which contributes to the slow emptying of the stomach. With this condition, herbal remedies that gently affect the body of a woman cope well. Reception of all herbal teas, infusions, decoctions is recommended to start with a mini-dose (2-3 tablespoons) to eliminate unwanted reactions.

  • Mint infusion. Its leaves contain a large number of vitamins C and P, provitamin A and mineral salts. To prepare 1 tablespoon of mint, pour a glass of boiling water and leave for 30 minutes. The infusion can be combined with pomegranate juice(source of iron, vitamin C), honey, lemon.
  • Rosehip infusion- the most optimal medicinal plant for a pregnant woman. Rose hips are saturated with vitamin C in record quantities, which enhances the body's metabolism, cleansing it of harmful metabolic products. Another valuable property is the strengthening of the walls blood vessels and capillaries of a woman and a child. To prepare, pour 1 tablespoon of fruits with 2 cups of boiling water, heat for 15 minutes in a water bath and insist for an hour in a thermos.
  • Citrus fruits also have an effect similar to rose hips. But unlike rose hips, their use requires caution to rule out allergies.
  • If nausea, vomiting, headache are observed more in the second half of the day, then probable cause this are psychogenic factors - fatigue, stress. Herbalists recommend the following herbs during pregnancy, accompanied by these symptoms: ginger, chamomile, valerian officinalis.
  • Ginger tea soothes, relieves headaches and improves well-being. To prepare the drink, you need to brew 50 g of ginger in a glass of boiling water and leave for 10 minutes. The positive effect is enhanced by the addition of lemon juice, honey.
  • Chamomile is known for its soothing, antispasmodic and antiseptic properties. Due to the absence of unwanted side effects, chamomile tea is possible throughout pregnancy. When purchasing it in a pharmacy or store, you need to pay attention to the absence of additives.
  • Valerian officinalis has a calming, sleep-improving effect. Its rather pungent smell can be an additional irritant for the aggravated sense of smell of a pregnant woman. Therefore, it is better to use it in herbal preparations.
  • Herbal collection: mint leaves, valerian root, chamomile flowers - in equal parts.
  • With salivation, characteristic of early toxicosis, it is recommended to rinse the mouth with decoctions of oak, chamomile, and sage.

When taking herbs during pregnancy, be sure to pay attention to the expiration date, appearance, and the absence of impurities. With any negative reaction from the body, it is strongly recommended to stop taking medicinal plants.

On this I close the topic, and I hope that after reading the article, many women who are expecting a baby will take their health more seriously and responsibly!

Many people consider medicinal herbs to be a completely harmless alternative to pills, with almost no contraindications. However, this is not entirely true: it is enough to recall that such potent substances as morphine, atropine or cardiac glycosides are isolated from plants. Therefore, it is impossible to use them haphazardly, especially during pregnancy.

All expectant mothers are well aware that many pills are contraindicated in their position. The same applies to medicinal herbs: many of them have an abortive effect, others are simply contraindicated due to harmful influence on the baby, but there are also very useful.

At the same time, the herb, which is categorically contraindicated during pregnancy, can be very useful after. Before starting treatment with a seemingly harmless herb, you should carefully understand its effect on pregnancy. We will try to help you with this!

But you should clearly understand which herbs you can drink during pregnancy and which you can’t.

It must be borne in mind that herbal treatment during pregnancy should be carried out with extreme caution. Often you can come across the opinion that natural remedies cannot harm, but this is not at all the case! First, substances were obtained from certain plants that became the basis of potent drugs (for example, morphine or atropine). Secondly, there are poisonous plants. Yes, they are used to make the same drugs (we all know that poison in small quantities can be useful). But it is not recommended for anyone to use them on their own, and even more so for the future mother, because she is responsible not only for her life! These are field horsetail, common lilac, black henbane, belladonna (belladonna), medicinal avran, medicinal fumes, yellow capsule, bird cherry, European bathing suit, glossy euphorbia and others. Therefore, before using any plant, you should definitely make sure that it is not included in the list of poisonous or potent.

But if everything was limited to a list of poisonous herbs! After all, many plants that are useful in the normal state during pregnancy can cause harm to varying degrees, including - even provoke a miscarriage! Therefore, let's find out which herbs can be used during pregnancy and which should be avoided.

Herbs contraindicated during pregnancy

Since a miscarriage is the worst thing for a future mother, let's start with herbs that can cause uterine contractions and, as a result, have an abortive effect: barberry, oregano, great celandine, wormwood (common, bitter, officinalis), rue, thuja, broom , green hellebore, tansy, nutmeg, marsh mint, male fern, pyrethrum, juniper, crocus, white mistletoe, Canadian goldenseal, cotton root, root of life, medicinal lovage, calendula, sage, garlic.

Sour sorrel, garden spinach (these plants have a high content of oxalic acid, which can cause disturbances in the formation of the baby's bones), seaweed, which contains a large amount of iodine, and hellebore, thyme (thyme), sage and licorice can interfere with the normal development of the fetus. significant damage to the fetus or cause deformities.

Plants that affect blood clotting should be avoided, as any changes given property can significantly complicate pregnancy: shepherd's purse, corn stigmas, mountaineer (kidney and pepper), stinging nettle, immortelle, common viburnum.

Also, improperly selected herbs during pregnancy can cause insomnia (for example, valerian in large quantities, despite the fact that in small quantities it is used for the opposite effect), an increase (ginseng, Chinese magnolia vine, eleutherococcus) or a decrease (motherwort, periwinkle) in blood pressure , and many other disorders and negative effects that a woman in an interesting position absolutely does not need.

This is not a complete list of plants that should be included in the list of prohibited herbs during pregnancy. It’s just that there are really a lot of them, it’s very difficult to list absolutely everything - you can even write a whole book on this topic. Therefore, we recommend that for each plant that you want to use during pregnancy, even if you know it is very useful, consult a doctor or read specialized literature.

It should also be remembered that absolutely any herbs can provoke an allergy. Therefore, if you are prone to allergic reactions, use plants with extreme caution.

Useful herbs during pregnancy

Since there are plants that are contraindicated during pregnancy, should there be those that are shown? Quite right. Herbs allowed during pregnancy can even be divided into groups, although the plants in these groups will be repeated. But this is not surprising, because a single product can have a lot of useful and even amazing properties.

So, for the general strengthening of the body, which is now not very sweet, you can use plants containing many vitamins. These are rose hips, lingonberries, peppermint. You can make tea from them.

Teas from the rose hips, lime blossom, raspberries already mentioned will help to increase immunity or fight an already onset cold.

With toxicosis, you can successfully cope with the help of peppermint and lemon balm.

Decoctions of chamomile, rosehip, lemon balm and mint will save you from headaches.

However, it should be remembered that even useful herbs can be harmful if consumed in unreasonable amounts.

Herbal medicine is one of the most ancient methods of healing, still retaining its popularity. During pregnancy, mothers are very limited in their choice of medicines, so they often resort to folk remedies, including herbal medicine. But are herbs so harmless during pregnancy? Despite the apparent simplicity, any "weed" is a drug, so its use should be deliberate and balanced.

The complexity of herbal medicine is confirmed by the fact that there is a separate medical specialty - a herbalist, this doctor is just engaged in herbal treatment. If possible, the pregnant woman should definitely consult with him before treatment, or at least consult with her obstetrician-gynecologist.

However, phytotherapy has its drawbacks. Main danger- take a medicinal plant harmful to pregnancy.
