Sew a baby blanket for discharge with your own hands. How to sew a children's envelope for discharge from the hospital with your own hands: photo review and master class

Envelope No. 1

$177 for a baby blanket - isn't that expensive?! I don’t know how convenient it is in practice, but theoretically this blanket can perform several functions: an envelope, sleeping bag and just a blanket. Well, let's save money!

Details:

Blanket - 2 parts;

Pocket - 2 details;

Blanket-transformer. pocket pattern

Operating procedure:

Draw a pocket pattern. Cut out the details of the blanket and pocket from fabric with a seam allowance of 1-1.5 cm, as well as a layer of synthetic winterizer. Fold up front side details of the "pocket" and stitch along the side where the elastic will later be.

Turn it out, iron the seam and sew from the edge of the stitching at a distance of 1.5-2 cm. Thread the elastic into the resulting drawstring, fix it with pins at a length of 45 cm. Sew the sections of the "pocket" with an oblique trim. Sew a "pocket" to the right side of one piece of the blanket in accordance with the pattern drawing.

Baste the details of the blanket with synthetic winterizer by tacking the zippers in the indicated places between the front sides of the details of the blanket. Sew on the machine along the edge of the blanket, leaving a few centimeters unstitched. Turn the blanket right side out, sew the unstitched section on your hands with a blind stitch. Iron the edges of the blanket.

How to use:

Lay the quilt "pocket" down. Close the zipper up to half of its length. Turn out the "pocket" thus closing the zipper. Now you can put the child in the "envelope". Zip up the zipper to the desired level. Fasten the top zipper, thus forming a cap on the child's head.

My transformer blanket:

Top - sewing, fleece inside, insulation - 2 layers of synthetic winterizer.

Envelope for discharge - a blanket-transformer for a newborn

You will need:

The main fabric (front, outer) - and in my case Burberry - 1 linear meter, with a width of at least 1.1 m.
- inner fabric (pleasant to the touch, this is the one with which the baby will come into contact) - the same size.
- lining (synthetic winterizer), several layers are possible, if for the cold season, in my case 1 layer 1mx1m.
- elastic band 50 cm
- detachable zipper 50 cm
- regular zipper 20 cm
- bias binding approx 1 m (actually less, approx 60 cm)
- threads, scissors, pins, chalk and other attributes of a tailor)

Step 1: Cut out the details.
We need to cut out three squares 90 cm wide and 85 cm high from our fabrics and padding polyester.

There is a nuance here: many people simply cut out a pocket with a rectangle 45cm wide and 25cm high, but then it turns out that when you thread the elastic, the pocket tightens the fabric, for an envelope this is ok, but for a blanket - no, because it will not spread evenly. Therefore, we add 5 cm on each side of the upper side of the pocket, but not just extending the top line, but lowering it a little so that the sides remain the same length - 25 cm. It should be clear from the drawing. We cut out two parts - it can be from different fabrics, like mine, you can both from the front. A padding polyester is not needed for a pocket.

Step 3:
We make a pocket. Place the two pieces facing each other

and stitch along the long side.

Turn out and iron the seam.

We lay a line from this seam at a distance of the width of the elastic band (with a small margin so that the elastic band can be easily threaded).

It seemed to me that a fairly wide elastic band looks better than a narrow one.

We put an elastic band into the resulting drawstring so that its length is 45 cm (i.e. if you cut off a piece of elastic band 50 cm long, then leave 2.5 cm on each side. We fix it with a pin, attach it.

Trim the side seams of the pocket

so that the two fabrics are folded evenly - it’s easier to sew on the bias trim, otherwise the fabric may come out from under it somewhere.

We attach a slanting inlay and attach it on both sides of the pocket.

Our pocket is ready, we check if everything is neat.

Step 4:
Sew on a pocket.
It is sewn to the front fabric (main, outer, i.e. Burberry in my case) to the front side. Bottom center. Pay attention to how you put the pocket if you have it double, like mine. The fabric, which will be the pocket when assembled, is applied facing the main fabric. Those. on the blue envelope, the inside-out pocket will be a Burberry check, and

in the photo below (pink envelope) the pocket is attached so that it will turn inside out on a pink (not a checkered fabric),

Another nuance - pay attention to how to sew a pocket: in the photo below on the right it is pinned with pins correctly - straight (the oblique trim is perpendicular to the bottom line and matches the cells), on the left it lies as it was cut, and there is a temptation to sew it along a curve. Don't let this bother you, our sides turned out to be 25 cm each, and the remaining volume will come in handy when turning it inside out.

Step 5 (the most difficult): sewing in the zippers.

Step by step.
First, I’ll show you a general picture of how to lay out fabrics and zippers: so, first, a layer of synthetic winterizer, on top of it, the inner fabric (towards the synthetic winterizer from the wrong side, facing us), onto it the main fabric (to us from the wrong side, to the inner fabric - face. I.e. The fabrics are folded facing each other and laid on a synthetic winterizer. Our zippers will be located between the fabrics. At the top in the middle - short, open, on the sides - long detachable, open.

Here it is necessary to make a reservation that it is more difficult to work with a checkered fabric, and it is better to sew the first envelope with another pattern that does not require alignment along the lines. The complexity of this envelope is that you need to sew a zipper so that when it turns inside out and fastens, the pattern is symmetrical. Or get ready for the fact that the zipper will have to be applied and basted several times) Here is a photo of how the pattern matched after basting the zipper with me:

So, how do we pin the zippers: unfasten the top small one, find the middle of the envelope, the base of the zipper will be attached there, put it so that the teeth look "inside the envelope", and not towards the edge. In this case, the dog should look at us (or be attached with its face to the main fabric). I hope it's more or less clear. Here is a photo:

The same principle applies to side zippers - it is important to take into account 2 points - where the teeth look, and where the dog is facing: the teeth are inward, and not to the edge, the dog is facing the main fabric. In my photo you can see that I pin the zipper to the front fabric (it is bent), this is in order to combine the pattern of the cage, if you have a fabric without a pattern / without symmetry, you can pin the zipper to the inner fabric - it’s more convenient, but on top just put the main square.

Pin it like this, and the main fabric will already lie on top:

I will bend the edges of the lightning to the side of the edge, like this:

So, we pin, we tack, we check (for this we turn it inside out and see how it will fasten), if everything suits, we start sewing on a typewriter.

Step 6: Sewing the Parts:

I stitched like this: first the bottom, i.e. the lower part with a pocket, from the middle to one side and the other, so as not to warp. To do this, our pocket must be initially fixed in the middle and unmarked center. We fasten with pins, and sew.

If top part it will be a little more, it's just on hand, so that the lightning dog does not pull. I pin, baste, from the edges to the center. Here you can see that there is a small gap for the lightning dog.

After that, turn our envelope inside out through the hole in the right side, check. If all is well, cut the edges and chamfer the corners so that the envelope turns inside out better. Sew up the hole with a hidden stitch.

This is how the blanket should look like:

We fold it "into a pipe", fastening it side zippers. We fasten the zipper of the hood.

And turn the pocket inside out:

The envelope is ready! SOURCE -

If you will sew a mattress for an envelope from several layers of cotton fabric, then, having folded the cut parts with the right side inward, sew the side and top seams (do not forget about the seam allowances of 0.75 cm, the bottom edge is 1 cm). Make notches along the rounded edge and turn the mattress inside out so that the parts are right side up on top. Turn the bottom edges inward 1 cm and sew over the top at a distance of 0.5 cm from the edge.

Cut out one detail of the top and bottom of the envelope (do not forget about allowances). Bottom edges details double tuck on the wrong side and sew. The hole for inserting the mattress should be located on the inside of the envelope along the fold.

Cut out the frills - either wide lace 300 - 380 cm long or a strip of fabric 360 x 6 cm with a thin lace ribbon, (add allowances).

Along the second edge of the frill, we lay two lines with a large stitch at a distance of 0.75 cm and 1.25 cm from the edge. Then we tighten the lines of the frill, evenly distributing the assembly along the upper and side edges of the upper part of the envelope to top line fold. We sew the excess width of the shuttlecock 0.75 cm and sew it to the edge of the upper part of the envelope so that the lace part of the shuttlecock lies from the cut edge inward on the front side of the upper part.

The side parts of the envelope are cut out double (4 parts in total). They can be decorated with embroidery to match the fabric. For ties, prepare 6 ribbons 25-30 cm long. Take two side parts, fold them face inward, stitch them together along the two narrow sides. Take 3 ribbons, put them inside the side of the envelope along the wide side (two at the edges, one in the middle) so that the ends of the ribbons protrude 0.5 cm from the edge and stitch the details of the side part along this side. Make notches in the corners, turn through the open side and smooth. Stitch the second side piece in the same way.

The top and bottom parts of the envelope are folded with the front sides inward (both side parts and frills are located inside). Bend the top part of the envelope so as to combine the processed sections of the top and bottom parts end-to-end, with the right side inward. Along the edges of the bottom fold of the top part of the envelope, place two ties inside so that the ends of the ribbons protrude 0.5 cm from the edge. And similarly, two ties - at the upper edges of the side parts (see picture). Sharpen the details. Make notches on the rounded part. Turn through the opening, straighten the seams and iron.

The birth of a child is always a joyful event for new parents. More on early stages During pregnancy, almost every woman tries to make cute things for her baby with her own hands: booties, hats, mittens and socks. But, of course, special attention is paid to the preparation of the so-called dowry for discharge. In this article, we will talk about how to make a blanket for discharge with your own hands. There can be a lot of design options, but the basics are always the same.

Blanket shape

Envelope blanket on extract is almost always done in the form of a square. This is the most suitable shape, since such a product can be laid in a stroller on walks, cover the baby with it in the arena. Although there are more complex models, practice shows that they are not so functional.

Blanket-transformer for a newborn is one of the most successful models. In appearance, this is the most ordinary envelope that fastens with a zipper, but if you unfasten all the zippers, then an ordinary square blanket will come out. The tricks of sewing such a model will be discussed a little later. The main disadvantage of such an envelope is that these very zippers can cause some inconvenience when you need to cover the baby with a blanket.

materials

A do-it-yourself blanket can be sewn from absolutely any fabric. But cambric is best for interior decoration and an atlas for the outside. A synthetic winterizer is often used as a filler, as it is warm and light. Its thickness can be 2, 4, 8 and 10 cm (the choice depends on the time of year in which the child is born). Can be used as decoration various ribbons and organza lace or seam. The basic rule for all materials is softness, all elements used in the work should be pleasant to the touch. Great option for a winter blanket - this is satin or velor for the front side and warm and soft velsoft or fleece for interior decoration. Lace should be selected depending on the fabrics chosen for the base. So, for example, an organza base or weaving in the “tatting” style is perfect for a satin fabric, and satin and bow ribbons will look better with velor. The seam will be an ideal companion for embroidered or embossed cambric, from which it is good to sew a summer version of the envelope.

Color design It just so happened that blue is most often chosen for boys, and pink for girls. But an envelope-blanket for an extract will look great in such neutral shades like yellow, green, lilac and white. In addition, a white base with colored lace or vice versa will be perfectly combined. A double-sided blanket with a bright cotton fabric interior and a smart white outside will look original.

The softest cotton flannel with cute ducklings, kittens or bears can give originality to the interior decoration. In addition, such a fabric is very pleasant to the touch and the baby will feel comfortable in such an envelope.

Open and sew blankets.

To sew a baby blanket with your own hands, you do not need to develop any special patterns and do complex calculations. All you need to have at hand is the materials for the product, a centimeter tape, scissors, sewing supplies and a typewriter.

So, the blanket for discharge is cut in several stages:

  1. From fabrics for interior and exterior decoration and synthetic winterizer cut out a square measuring 120 by 120 cm or 130 by 130 cm.
  2. Cut out a right triangle of cambric with sides of about 40 cm for decoration inner corner envelope.
  3. Next, cut the lace, pre-line one of the corners of the main fabric for the outer side of the blanket with stripes along which it will be sewn. Depending on the width decorative elements it can be 3-5 rows. These lines measure measuring tape and cut the lace twice as long as the measurements.
Quilt trim.

After all the elements of the product are cut out, they begin to decorate individual parts. From the inside, a triangle of embossed cambric is sewn onto one of the corners, and the cut is closed with a seam or satin ribbon. On the same part, stepping back from the edge of about 5 cm, you can sew on the gathered lace along the perimeter of the processed corner, the edges of the laces are closed in the same tape.

Also, rows of already cut lace are sewn on the corner from the outside, having previously gathered them on a thread in small assemblies.

To sew a more elegant blanket for discharge with your own hands, gathered lace can be sewn around the entire perimeter. At the same time, its front side should be from the outside of the blanket. Special attention should be given to assemblies at the corners. To decorative trim had the proper appearance, the lace in these places should be laid either with opposite folds or with small assemblies. In both cases, for processing corners, you need to allocate a sufficient amount of frill so that it does not wrap. Lace is tacked to outside finish the envelope by folding the pieces right sides inward.

Envelope blanket with a zipper.

Usually a transforming blanket for a newborn is made with a zipper. For such a product, two fasteners are required: one is about 20 cm long, the second is 60 cm. You also need fabric for the base and a special folding pocket to fix the envelope. It is sewn on the front side of the blanket, and after the baby is wrapped and zipped, it is also turned away so that the design of the envelope is strong and does not unfold even with intensive movements of the baby.

Such a pocket is made double-sided and on top with an elastic band. It is simply sewn over the outer trim of the blanket in the center of the fabric, almost along its edge. It is necessary to sew parts of a detachable zipper to the adjacent sides, with the help of which the blanket will be assembled into an envelope. A 20 cm long zipper is sewn to the upper side from the middle of the side to the edges, not reaching the end by about 15 cm.

So that the envelope is not too large for the baby, a do-it-yourself blanket for discharge should be sewn with sides no larger than 75-80 cm.

Usually such a product is made without lace frills, but if an additional lace corner-liner is sewn into the kit, and for the base pick up beautiful fabric, then such an envelope will come out very elegant.

Envelope blanket with ties.

Sewing a baby blanket with your own hands is not difficult at all if you have experience working on a sewing machine. Moreover, the task can be simplified and not sew on zippers, but make ties from satin ribbons. Here you need to think about how it will be more convenient to wrap the baby: in a corner or along the blanket. In the first case, it will be necessary to make the ribbons from the inside, namely, slightly off-center to fix the wrapped corner, on the sides of which the ties are also sewn. Further, in the course of swaddling the child, one of the side corners is wrapped and covered with the opposite one, which should also be fixed with a tie. This design option will provide a secure fit, and beautifully tied satin bows will add zest to the product.

Knitted blanket.

If the task of sewing a blanket with your own hands seems too complicated and the soul lies more in knitting, then such an envelope will also turn out to be very cute. Crocheted lace from beautiful soft threads or funny elements with bunnies or roses will look simply charming. Crochet a blanket - great idea for those who are fond of knitting. Moreover, only a duvet cover can be woven, and the base of the blanket can be sewn from synthetic winterizer and fabric.

A knitted blanket with knitting needles will also look beautiful. Soft and warm with braids or openwork motifs and with broaches of satin ribbons - just a wonderful option. It is best to give preference to either cotton or acrylic threads. First option is suitable for the summer, and the second will be relevant in the cold season. The winter version of the envelope can be knitted from thick threads, but it must be borne in mind that they must be soft and in no case be pricked.

Making an envelope for an extract with your own hands is really very simple, even if the dimensions of its future owner are not yet known.

When modeling a future envelope, many factors are taken into account.

Firstly, great importance has the gender of the child.

From this condition, preference is given to one or another color of the product.

Secondly, the time of year when the baby was born matters. Winter and summer versions of envelopes differ greatly in the materials used.

For demi-season use, an envelope is selected between winter and summer strictly according to the weather: warm lining material can always be removed and put back.

However, craftswomen can make an envelope for each season separately.

Thirdly, the transformation of the envelope matters when the child is urgently required to quickly open it.

Summer envelope

In the summer warm time you can be discharged from the maternity hospital without an envelope. It is enough to dress the newborn in warm clothes and wrap in a light blanket. However, there is one reason why you can still change your mind and use an envelope - this is the festivity of the event. It is desirable to surround the moment of the birth of a new life and the first days of the child with special care and love. May the day of their discharge from the maternity hospital be solemn and remembered for many years to come.

Envelopes for newborns are different. The child's gender, height and weight are taken into account. The inner lining of the envelope is sewn from natural fabric so as not to accidentally cause allergies in the baby or overheating in the hot summer air. Exterior trim can be made of coarse calico, thin fleece, flannel. The shapes are also varied: rectangular, triangular, transformers, " hourglass". It is more practical to use one that can then be laid in a stroller. For these purposes, an elastic band is sewn into the envelope in the area of \u200b\u200bthe baby's belt, and the area where the legs are located is expanded so that the child can freely move his legs.

To make an envelope for an extract with your own hands, you will need the following materials: pattern, natural cotton fabric, fabric for outdoor decoration, synthetic winterizer under the head, lace for decoration, ribbon for dressing across, scissors, matching threads, needle, tailor's meter.

Sewing order:

1. To make an envelope of a standard size, a pattern is required

2. The pattern is transferred to paper and the details are cut out;

3. Cut out two pieces of fabric for the exterior, 55/35 and 75/50 cm in size;

4. For interior decoration, a detail of 150/35 cm is cut out;

5. 2 parts are made for the "hood": one for outdoor decoration, and the second - from natural. Both parts are sewn on a sewing machine. Must be stitched on the inside thin layer synthetic winterizer to give this area softness and airiness;

6. "Hood" is sewn to the main part of the product;

7. The “folding part” of the fabric is sewn from below to the main product;

8. Finally, with wrong side both parts: internal and external - are connected together by means of sewing machine. The edges are processed with an overlock;

The child does not fit into the envelope naked. He is dressed in a diaper or panties, then in a bodysuit or vest, and a light cap is put on his head.

Winter envelope

Envelope for discharge from the hospital in winter time must be insulated. It should keep warm inside and not be blown through by the cold wind. He must also protect the baby from adverse weather conditions and, if necessary, open up into a wide blanket. In the pattern described below, in contrast to the above summer version, there is a zipper on the sides for better conservation optimum temperature.

To make an envelope for an extract with your own hands, you will need the following materials: pattern, raincoat fabric 100/150 cm, synthetic winterizer for insulation, fleece or velsoft, zipper 60 cm long. 2 pieces.

Sewing order:

1. a pattern is built according to the following dimensions:

2. According to the pattern, three identical parts are cut out of raincoat fabric, synthetic winterizer and velsoft, taking into account allowances (1-1.5 cm.)

3. Raincoat fabric is sewn with synthetic winterizer;

4. On both sides, first one zipper is sewn in turn, and then the other. The raincoat fabric together with the padding polyester is folded inside the product

5. It's the turn for velsoft. It is sewn from the wrong side to the main product. After that, through the left unstitched strip in the hood area, the envelope will need to be turned inside out;

6. The product is turned inside out and sewn into triangular shape hood;

That's all, the winter envelope is ready.

A few words about other envelopes

From the moment a huge number of various fabrics began to appear on the Russian market, many types of envelopes for babies for discharge from the maternity hospital appeared.

Knitted envelopes enjoy great success. However, for the manufacture of such a wonderful product, the master must have high skill. Knitted set can be used in winter, if it is well enough to insulate it inside with a windproof fabric and fleece. All is well knitted product, except for one - a delicate wash at low temperature is required. Because of this, you will have to pay extra time to remove some stubborn dirt that cannot be removed by washing in low temperature regime. Washing in high temperature water will hopelessly ruin the thing forever, unfortunately.

Rapidly growing in popularity fur envelopes. This variant with a touch of elegance and taste. There is no doubt that inside such a product the baby is always comfortable and warm in winter. You can go for a short walk even in the cold. However, it is necessary to take into account the operation natural fur. If it was snowing outside and the fur of the house became wet from melted snowflakes, it needs to be dried, but it is forbidden to dry it on a radiator. And wash it in washing machine not possible - only chemical treatment. And in winter it is required to store in a cool place. Fridge fit better Total. And this is not a joke. But there is no doubt that such a fur envelope, if sewn as a gift, will become a favorite gift for the baby's parents and, perhaps, for him too.

If you want to create a beautiful and comfortable baby envelope, then you should use the ideas on the Internet.

This is the first clothes for a newborn.. In this product, the baby is most often taken away from the institutions of the maternity hospital, as well as taken on the first walks on fresh air. Wrapping the body of the baby, as in a cocoon, the thing gives the child a particularly comfortable position, which is similar to what the child had in the process of being in the mother's stomach. Making an envelope with your own hands, a master class.

And although on sale and in the modern market of products you can find ready-made envelopes for babies, an increasing number of mothers decide to create a product for the baby with their own efforts, and for this they have a number of reasons. With the help of special patterns, as well as master classes and video materials, a spring, summer, summer, and winter envelope can be created even by the woman who has not previously been engaged in sewing professionally.

How to sew an envelope for newborns?

To get it right create a product for the baby, just born into the world, should be provided special requirements that are made for children's clothing. Special requirements:

  1. For sewing things, only natural materials and fabrics of an anti-allergic nature are suitable, while they should not contain any special harmful substances that will affect the baby's body.
  2. The material from which the clothing is made must meet all requirements this season of the year. If the discharge of the mother and baby from the hospital takes place in the summer, then silk or lace is perfect for this. But for cold weather it is worth using fabrics that can take good care of protecting the baby from low temperatures and poor conditions around both from the cold and from the wind and rain.
  3. Product should be the correct size. Inside this thing, the child should feel comfortable and spacious. The envelope should not put pressure on the baby's body.
  4. The seams in the envelope area must be very neatly sewn.
  5. Ribbons, ribbons, fringes, and other things of a decorative nature should not affect the child and bring him special discomfort or create an opportunity for suffocation.
  6. In the event that the product is used to discharge the baby, then you should issue it elegant ribbons or to decorate.

In the finished product market, it is quite difficult to find a suitable material that will fully meet all the requirements of this list. In addition, the price for finished products is quite high, and after all, they will have to be used not only for one day (during the discharge of the child), but for 6 months of the baby’s growth (this is the period of time it takes for a winter or summer envelope).

Do-it-yourself envelope for newborns?

That is why the most the best choice in this case, for most mothers it will become their own made envelope for a newborn baby. During the work of mothers, especially when they are not particularly versed in tailoring, there may be any difficulties and questions. Eg:

  1. What size should the product be? In this case, everything is quite easy - the envelope is intended for children under 12 months old. The size of the finished product in length, most often varies from 75 to 100 centimeters, and in width - 85 - 100 centimeters in the unfolded form. At the same time, when folded, the product reaches a width of about 50 centimeters.
  2. What envelope model worth using? There are a lot of envelope models: products for summer, winter or universal; envelopes-bags with or without sleeves, envelopes with a rigid back, transformers that become a blanket or overalls during operation, as well as other things. Experienced and professional mothers think that transformer envelopes are the most convenient option for use in Everyday life, because it is considered the most convenient in in public places. So, such a device will be easy to change into a mattress or blanket, and then return to its original form.
  3. Where can I find good pattern for an envelope? When a woman has certain skills for sewing, she can create a pattern by herself. The second way to get a quality pattern is to pay money at the studio and pick up already finished model patterns. A large number of mothers choose an easier way and simply download their favorite embroidery model via the Internet.

It should be remembered that you can find more than just unusual envelope patterns on the net. But if mom has never sewed things before, then she is unlikely to be able to master such models. Beginners in this business should use sketches much easier.

Summer product scheme, do-it-yourself production

It is best to start with the fact that for a newborn child in late spring or summer, an envelope is not always considered necessary subject, because during walks in the fresh air he will cover with a very thin chintz or cotton film.

But also in summer time weather outside can change dramatically, it can rain or it can get cold. It is on such bad weather days that the child will feel more comfortable in such a thing that can wrap him up and cover him warmly.

It should be noted that parents are not always buy envelopes for children based on the economy of the product. But at the same time, sewing on your own does not require large expenses. It is for this reason that mom can not be afraid and boldly start making an envelope.

To sew a summer envelope, you need to use:

  1. Pattern.
  2. Needles.
  3. Tapes.
  4. Scissors.
  5. Fabric and lace.
  6. Threads that harmonize in color.
  7. Sewing machine.
  8. Tailor's pins.
  9. Millimeter paper, as well as additional ribbons for decoration.

How to sew a product for a baby with your own hand a master class:

  • The given pattern in real size is transferred to the surface of graph paper.
  • All parts of the envelope must be of the two-layer type. The outer layer is a satin or jacquard, the inner one is it is cotton material. Both materials should be taken at 135 centimeters by 80 centimeters.
  • The pattern on graph paper should be pinned to the fabric we are using. Further, it is carefully outlined, allowances are made at the seams.
  • Cut out the prepared model of the future product.
  • With the help of a sewing machine, both the inner and outer layers of the product are sewn together.
  • The lace must be gathered by hand and stitched to the top area of the future envelope.
  • The remaining edges of the thing are processed with an overlock. They can also be lined with lace or ribbon.
  • To the product surface sewn on a special decor.

Mom can do much more - sewing an envelope for a baby is not easy, but also creating a whole set of clothes for summer season - gentle suit - bodysuit and a thin hat. If she has such skills, she can crochet them.

Blanket for discharge with your own hands

In winter, most often, the baby's parents are looking for a difficult task for him. an envelope, and a whole bag - overalls with combined sleeves and a hood. Even in this outfit very coldy the newborn will not be afraid, he will be comfortable and warm to sleep in a crib or ride in a stroller during a walk.

Creating a product for winter will be more difficult. An envelope for babies, most often, is created in a three-layer type. Fabrics for the product should be chosen of higher quality:

  1. The top layer of the product should be quite warm, it would be best if it is also waterproof and windproof. Usually, this is a fabric for raincoats. But in some cases, twill, fur, and other warm fabrics are used.
  2. middle layer- This is a layer of insulation. It is best to create things based on sheepskin. However, some children are allergic to this tissue. Modern parents most often they buy synthetic winterizer, cotton or other synthetic fillers.
  3. The bottom layer is breathable, non-electrostatic, hygroscopic, most often natural and anti-allergic. Cotton, knitwear and fleece are usually used for it.

In addition to sewing devices for sewing a winter product, you need to use:

  1. Materials for the inner as well as the outer layer, insulation 120 cm and 150 cm.
  2. Zip closure.
  3. Special elastic band for sleeves.
  4. A hood for a hood.
  5. Appliqués and other floor decorations of your choice.

Sequencing:

  1. To begin with, the pattern is transferred to a pre-prepared paper carrier.
  2. The details of the envelope-overalls are cut out (with allowances in the area of the seams).
  3. The remaining layers of the envelope are well ground.
  4. The sleeves are ground down, and then they are sewn into the product.
  5. On the sleeves it is worth adding a special elastic band.
  6. The hood is combined and added to the most finished thing.
  7. Insert the drawstring together with the drawstring into the finished facing in the hood.
  8. A specialized fastener in the form of a zipper is sewn to the shelf of the envelope.

How to start sewing a baby blanket

In order for the blanket to turn out good, and your efforts were not wasted, you need to correctly calculate the size of the blanket, and arm yourself with all the necessary materials.

DIY baby blanket. Blanket size

You can choose the size of the blanket at your discretion, taking into account the age of your crumbs, the size of the crib and the existing bed linen:

  • Babies from birth to three years old sleep in newborn cribs. Standard sizes mattresses are 120 × 60 cm. The average size of a duvet cover for this age category is 120x90 cm. Therefore, the size of the blanket should correspond to its size. If you plan to use the comforter without a duvet cover, you can slightly change its size.
  • Children from three to six years old sleep in children's beds with dimensions of 160x70 cm. A suitable blanket size for such a bed would be 140x110 cm.
  • Kids 5-6 years old feel comfortable on teenage beds with a mattress size of 200x90 cm. For this age, a slightly larger blanket is suitable - 215x143 cm.

Modern textile production has long gone beyond the limits of standards and produces bed linen and blankets that are not quite typical sizes. Very often there are blankets of square and round shape that are capable of transformation. Therefore, you can safely experiment with the size and shape of a homemade product.

Custom size baby blanket for newborns:

  • 90x90 cm - will become an invaluable thing for sheltering a baby in a cradle, and then, when the baby grows up, it will come in handy for swinging in the cold season.
  • 120x120 cm - perfect for discharge, sheltering a baby while walking. It can be laid on a changing table or used as a developmental play mat if you decorate it with appliqués. But such a blanket will soon become too small for your baby.
  • 150x130 cm - this size is suitable for sewing a sleeping bag. While the baby is small, you can fasten it, converting it into a bag, and eventually use it as a regular dress.

DIY baby blanket. Product design and material selection

To make a blanket, sometimes it takes a lot of time and effort. The first thing the craftswoman pays attention to in the sewing process is the choice of materials that are safe for the child and the aesthetic appearance of the product. But, the main place should always be occupied by the strength of the blanket, as well as the ability to care for it without losing its original appearance.

During operation, small troubles will occur in the form of spilled milk, juice or something else, in addition, the baby will sweat under the covers during illness. Therefore, from time to time the blanket will need to be washed. It is at this stage that many questions will arise that can be missed when sewing a blanket. In order not to spoil your many days of work after washing, it is better to immediately carefully consider the design of the blanket and sew it firmly, and then quilt it.

The blanket is made up of three basic elements- lining, filler and tires. But, some types of blankets may not have an insulating layer. Each part of the quilt requires certain types of materials, which must meet the following criteria:

  • Hypoallergenic - all consumables from fabric to thread should not provoke allergic reaction at the baby.
  • The absence of toxic dyes - the drawing must be safe for the child. Before buying, always be interested in the availability of a certificate for the material. The drawing should not shed and smell sharply.
  • High wear resistance and mechanical strength - the blanket will be used frequently, so all materials must be resistant to friction, washing, stretching and other mechanical manipulations.
  • Vapor and breathability - all layers of the blanket must pass air and sweat vapors. This will provide not only comfortable conditions for sleep, but also save the product from stagnation of air, untidy smell and reproduction of microorganisms (dust mites, mold, etc.).
  • The natural origin of the fabric - only natural fabrics are recommended for the baby, for example, coarse calico, linen, silk.
  • Antistatic - it is better to sew a product from a fabric with an antistatic effect, otherwise a highly electrified blanket will cause inconvenience.

For sewing tires, you can use any natural fabric, as long as it is soft to the touch and does not exert mechanical irritation on delicate skin child. For such purposes, thin furniture fabric or raincoat fabric is also suitable if the blanket is intended for outdoor use.

It is quite appropriate to take a cotton canvas for lining. It fully lets air through and does not lead to a violation of thermoregulation in a child, while being affordable and completely natural. But it does not differ in wear resistance, it is quickly wiped, it is easily dirty and it is very difficult to wash off.

You can choose twill or silk. They are also breathable, pleasant to the touch, but unnecessarily slippery. Therefore, if a child likes to spin in a dream, it is better to find another option.

The most optimal and budgetary solution is to use bamboo canvas. It retains heat well, while not interfering with air microcirculation, retains appearance for a long time, and does not cause allergies.

The choice of material for the bottom of the blanket should be done taking into account the season in which it will be used. For a winter product, a bike, fleece, coarse calico is suitable, and for the warm season - cotton linen (batiste, satin, volta).

An insert is added to a duvet to make it warmer. As a filler use:

  • Sintepon - the cheapest insulation on silicone base. Blankets based on it are light and airy. But it cakes much faster, and when washing (if the liner is not thickly quilted), it gets off.
  • Fleece is a warm, durable fabric for outerwear. It is heavier compared to synthetic winterizer, but it does not stretch, does not stray and is easily erased without subsequent deformation.
  • Hollofiber is a propylene-based fibrous material. It costs more than synthetic winterizer, but it has increased resistance to sale and is very warm. When washed, it is reluctant to deform, so the blanket based on it lasts longer.

After you have already decided on the size and type of fabric, you should consider what appearance to give the blanket, what technique to sew it with and how to decorate it. If you adhere to traditional tastes, you can make a synthetic winterizer or fleece blanket, and if you are a supporter of something exclusive, sew an unusual blanket from colorful shreds or knit an openwork blanket.

DIY patchwork baby blanket

Patchwork or patchwork is a sewing technique that involves the use of fabric patches. different sizes and forms. This is one of the most ancient types of needlework, which is now at the peak of its popularity. Now this is not only a way to use unnecessary shreds or old clothes as it was before, but also a stylish attribute in the style of "hand-made".

The word "patchwork" comes from two foreign words: patch - "patch" and work - "work".

The presence of all kinds of fabrics with animals, cartoon characters and other themes makes it possible to sew a unique and bright blanket for a baby that will decorate every children's room and bring a lot of positive emotions.

You can also create real masterpiece from children's crawlers, bodysuits and suits. Children's clothes for fidgets are always beautiful and colorful, with wonderful patterns, appliqués and embroidery. Patchwork Baby Blanket Starter Kit

To sew a baby patchwork quilt with your own hands you need to have very few materials and tools:

  • Multi-colored remnants of fabric (children's clothes that are already small are suitable).
  • Fabric for sewing the wrong side of the blanket.
  • Inlay fabric.
  • Threads to match the selected shreds.
  • Any filler.
  • Ruler for patchwork.
  • Sewing machine and iron.
  • Scissors or circular knife.
  • Pins.

It is rather difficult to specify the amount of consumables, since it depends on the size of the blanket and the complexity of the pattern that will be executed.

Stages of sewing a patchwork blanket for children

Before you start sewing, take into account a few tips that will save time and nerves:

  • Pick up shreds of the same thickness and weight, and the texture may differ.
  • Be sure to iron the prepared material.
  • As a filler, it is better to take a thin synthetic winterizer with a thickness of no more than 1 cm.
  • For cutting it is better to use a circular knife. If there is no such tool, you can get by with scissors, but it will take twice as much time to cut the shreds.

The whole process of sewing a patchwork quilt takes place in two stages: cutting and sewing the patches, as well as sewing on the synthetic winterizer and the bottom of the product.

Stage number 1: cutting flaps and creating a canvas

  • If you are going to sew such a blanket for the first time, it is better to take small squares of 15x15 cm as a basis. Cut the squares from the prepared material using a ruler and scissors. Their number depends on the size of the blanket, and may change during the sewing process.

  • Then you need to make a layout of the future blanket. To do this, lay out the shreds on the floor using the technique of your choice. The shreds are sewn face to face in the arranged order in the form of ribbons of 7-8 shreds.

  • All allowances need to be ironed out so that the blanket is neat and even. Then from the tapes you need to sew a solid canvas.

Stage number 2: Sewing on the padding polyester and the bottom of the blanket

  • Take a piece of filler slightly larger than the patchwork.
  • Pin on top of it, and then sew on the patchwork top of the blanket.
  • Put the finished base of the blanket on the canvas, which will serve as the bottom of the product.
  • Bend the edges of the upper and lower parts by 1.5 cm and sew around the entire perimeter of the blanket. You can also trim the edges with inlay.

Do-it-yourself children's patchwork quilt - schemes

Sewing a blanket in the style of patchwork occurs according to a certain pattern. Mostly, the product consists of identical pieces of fabric, which are sewn in a strict order, according to the intended pattern. But patchwork is just one of the styles patchwork and there are many other variations of the patchwork pattern.

For example, you can sew a blanket according to the following patterns, while using shreds of different shapes:

  • Technique "Chaos" - it provides for sewn patches of a satisfied shape and size. You can take ribbons, triangles, rhombuses and other forms of shreds and combine them into a canvas, forming an abstract pattern without adhering to a strict pattern.

  • Technique "Watercolor" - the combination of square patches in one color scheme, creating smooth transitions.

  • Honeycomb technique - a blanket made of hexagonal patches in any color scheme.

  • Technique " Chess board"- a blanket made in two colors, and resembles a game of chess.

  • Technique "Stripes" - instead of squares, strips sewn in a chaotic manner are used.

The principle of connecting and subsequent production of a patchwork blanket is the same as in the patchwork blanket instructions described above.

Do-it-yourself children's blanket from synthetic winterizer

A blanket made of synthetic filler is in many ways superior to wadded and down products. The synthetic winterizer and holofiber are lightweight, easy to care for, and, most importantly, they do not act as an allergy provocateur.

DIY baby blanket. Calculation of the required amount of fabric and other consumables

To sew a warm padding blanket for a baby, which will be no worse than a factory one, you will need:

  • Sintepon in accordance with the size of the future blanket.
  • Fabric in the amount of two areas of the blanket + allowances.
  • Needles, pins, thread and, of course, a sewing machine.

DIY baby blanket. Cutting and step-by-step sewing instructions

As a rule, all cotton fabrics tend to shrink after washing. Therefore, first you need to wet the fabric so that it sits down, or add shrinkage allowances when building a pattern.

To sew a blanket, you need a pattern. For cutting out, it is better to take a wide material so that the blanket has no extra seams in the middle. You can cut out the product both along the width of the fabric and along the length, depending on the placement of the pattern and the width of the fabric.

Before cutting the fabric, you need to add allowances:

  • On the seam (1.5 cm on all sides).
  • For shrinkage (5-7 cm per meter of fabric in length and 2-4 cm per meter in width).
  • For quilting (for a thin synthetic winterizer, 2-3 cm is required, for a high synthetic winterizer or holofiber with thick quilting - 7-10 cm).

How to sew a baby blanket with your own hands, step by step instructions:

  1. Sew the blanket on three sides, and then turn it inside out.
  2. Insert the filler through the remaining opening and straighten it.
  3. Secure the synthetic winterizer with running stitches or fix with pins (be sure to count their number so that none is lost).
  4. Sew the quilt on three sides about 10 cm from the edge.
  5. Next, sew the middle of the product with lines in random order. You can draw a picture in the form of squares, waves, flowers.
  6. Sew the unsewn side of the quilt and stitch 10 cm from the edge as you would on the other sides of the piece.

  1. Cast on 139 stitches, then using pearl knit, dial 5 cm of the canvas in height.
  2. Then you need to dial the first and last 8 loops with pearl knitting, and the remaining 123 loops with fancy knitting according to the scheme in the figure.
  3. Manufacturing process:

    1. Print the pattern on a printer or build it on paper in accordance with the growth of the baby. Toward the bottom, it is better to make the bag a little wider so that it is more convenient for the baby to move the legs.
    2. On a fabric folded in half, attach a pattern and cut the material with the addition of seam allowances (1.5 cm). In the place where there will be lightning, allowances should be left a little more - at least 2-3 cm.
    3. By the same principle, cut the synthetic winterizer and lining material.
    4. Connect all the details: first baste the synthetic winterizer to the main fabric, then baste the lining.
    5. You need to sew the product with the front part inside. The front parts must be connected on one side with the back, and a zipper must be sewn to the other.
    6. Turn the sleeping bag inside out and iron all seams.
    7. Trim the sleeves and neckline.
    8. At the end, you can decorate the product with a fleece application.
